  • When I turn my ipod on why does the screen stay blank and then turn itself off?

When I turn my ipod on the normal start up screen appears with the apple logo in the middle, but then after a few seconds the screen goes blank and it turns itself off. It was working fine the other day. I even charged it overnight to make sure that it wasnt because it was out of battery. I dont know what to do, it has over 600 songs on it and around 300 photos, I know that the memory isnt full because I checked the other day and it said I had around 1GB left. I cant do anything on at all because the screen just goes blank and then turns itself off. Please help, thank you

Well, I strongly suspect that a gig isn't quite enough "extra" storage to allow operation.
However, first, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Macbook won't start up and the screen stays blank but the light is on...

So one day randomly my macbook screen turned blank but he white light stayed lit up entirely. I tried moving the mouse around but the screen remained blank. I've tried to shut the macbook off and turn it on again and the white light goes off and on when I do that but the screen remains blank and the start up chime is not heard.
I've tried every single solution on the apple troubleshooting except trying to start up from disc because I can't put the restore disc in because the disc drive will not bring the disc in. I am not under warranty anymore and I need help desperately if anyone can help me out here. I can provide more details if neccessary.

Try to also press cmd+v while booting the system, it will print out whatever it's doing on the screen if it boots successfully past its POST. If not, then I think there's a motherboard (also called a logic board by Apple) issue.
It doesn't really sound like a hard drive failure since the hard drive failure will result in a ? logo.
Have you also tried to reset your PRAM?

  • HT204266 App Store on ipad indicates that apps updates are available, but when I select updates the screen stays blank. Is there a fix for this bug or am I stuck reloading iOS again?

I just had my iPad 3  replaced. It is running iOS 6.1.3 and I am not able to update my apps.

I think there's a problem with the update server.
There are many similar cases on this discussion.

  • When I try to start my MacBook Pro, the screen stays blank - I hear the startup "chime" but nothing else happens.

It's actually my teenage daughter's MacBook, and she's driving me crazy wanting me to fix it... any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My Power Mac G5 goes into the power sving mode on the start up and screen  stays blank. Monitor is OK. Help.....

I Hv a Power Mac G5. s soon as I power it on, the monitor (Lacie) screen flashes a message saying It has gone into Power Saving mode and the screen stays blank.
Once it happened before and was told to keep Command, option, P & R kes pressed while it is starting up and to keep it pressed untill it restarts. Tried that, but it does not work.
    How do I correct it?
    Please help.....
I am located in India. and trying to exhaust all available options before I contact Apple Support......

It sounds like your video card is not coming up, as the monitor is indicating that it probably has no active video coming from the computer.
    Two things to try:
First, does video come up in safe boot (hold the shift key down while powering up)?
Second, how old is the PRAM backup battery?  While not a universal cause of video not coming up, we have seen reports of a weak PRAM backup battery being the cause of that failure.  If the battery is more than a couple of years old, a replacement is a good and relatively inexpensive initial troubleshooting step.  (My own theory is that at boot, the PRAM yields garbage data to the system which, in some cases, crashes a video driver or does other mischief.)
If the computer is otherwise coming up OK, that is to say, you power it up and it hasn't clicked itself off and after a few minutes the fans haven't ramped into high gear, which indicates that the system is actually up and running even without video output, then it is relatively likeley that the video card has failed and must be replaced.
One final thing to try would be a PMU or SMU reset (depending on where your G5 is in the progression of the model).  Information on PMU is here and information on SMU is here.

  • I have a mac which plays the boot sound but the screen stays black. Recovery mode does not work, as the keyboard is wireless. What do I do?

What it says in the title.
I have an older mac and it worked perfectly until about an hour ago when I shut it down because we needed the room dark for a presentation and the screen saver was putting out light.
Now it won't turn back on. It plays the start up music but the screen stays blank.
The CMD+OPT+R for recovery mode doesn't do anything, the keyboard is wireless so the command doesn't get to the computer and that's the only keyboard I have since that's the one it came with.
I'm looking at making a USB recovery disk but it says that I should click on "Options" in the Disk Utility but there is no options button or menu to click.
From here: OS X: About Recovery Disk Assistant in step 3 I get stuck.
Also it says that if I make a drive on this computer which has an older OS it might not work on the broken machine with Mavericks.
This machine literally worked and I turned it off and now it does not work and there seems to be nothing I can do... ***...

well, then recovery mode does not work. I've tried all the key combinations I've seen on line. Command+R, Command+Option+R, Command+Option+P+R, none of these work.
I don't believe there is anything we can do on a forum to help then, you need to take it into a AASP and have it professionaly diagnosed. If you don't know how to locate an AASP in your area you can begin by using Contact Apple for support and service
    Good luck.

  • My MacBook pro wont wake up from sleep. The screen is blank at all times, but I can hear the fan for 5 sec then everything stops. Please help! I don't kno what to do.

My MacBook pro is about 3 yrs old. It is a 2008 model right before the new design came out. Recently I closed it up which puts it to sleep and a couple minutes later when I opened it up the screen stayed blank but could hear the fan running but then the power clicked like it was shutting down and I could hear nothing more. My power supply is working and I have already tried resetting it. Can anyone help me? I don't live exactly near a Mac store to get help.

Before resorting to an LB change-out, try this, as it has fixed many of the "silver-key" Macbook Pros with wake-from-sleep issues:
    1) To get the computer running, do an SMC reset. Instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Your MBP model uses the first option under the subhead, "Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)"
    2) If you get it running, go to System Preferences > Network and select your Airport connection
    3) In the result main pane, click the "Advanced..." button.
    4) You should be looking at a window with multiple tabs at the top; the "Airport" tab (far left) should be active---if not, make it so.
    5) There is a panel showing "Prefered Networks." Use the "minus" button below that window to eliminate any networks that you don't need to access on more than a weekly basis. I'm down to two: the home Airport Extreme Base Station and the network for a museum at which I volunteer once a week.
    5) Click "OK" and close System Preferences.
Now try letting it sleep and see it if wakes up.
When this happened to my Late 2007 MBP, I used Console to read system.log and found that, on waking, the compuer was looking for the wireless network at a lodge where I'd stayed weeks earlier and miles away. Clear the morass of old networks and keeping the list short has completely cured my wake-from-sleep issues.
The steps I listed take less time to do than to read, and are within the ability even of novice Mac users.
If that doesn't work, you may need to seek professional help. If you take it to an Apple Store and they recommend a logic board replacement, ask about a "Depot Repair." Instead of replacing the logic board on-site (which will whack you to the tune of US$700-1100), they send the computer to a central Apple refurb facility that fixes whatever they find wrong for a flat fee of about US$315 (last time someone reported using the service here). Turnaround is about one working week, and people who have taken of this service have reported being very pleased with the outcome.
You don't show a geographic location. This service may not be available if you are outside North America.

  • Sometimes the screen is blank!

I'm trying to repair a Satellite l305d-s59222. The hard drive partition somehow no longer has the partiton on it to factory reset, but I have ordered the Recovery CDs from Toshiba. Last night, I finally got the screen to turn back on (ie. it is no longer black on startup) and was able to do a factory restore. This morning, I turn the laptop on, and while resuming windows, it gets stuck on a black screen with a flashing white curser. I turn the laptop off, and now it won't boot again. The screen stays blank...no Toshiba screen or anything. I've checked all the cables and they seem to be working fine. Like I said, sometimes it comes on. Other times, it will remain blank. Any clue what is going on/ what to try next?

It's hard to know for sure. Have you tried using it with an external monitor?

  • Why is the screen in my liquify page blank/white?  I used to be able to see the picture

Why is the screen in my liquify page blank/white?  I used to be able to see the picture I was working on but now it just shows a white page...  I have photoshop CS4.  How do I fix it?

are you zoomed in too far to see that part of the layer that has content?  Does the layer you have selected definitely have content?  Try using Ctrl/Cmd 0 to zoom back to fit to screen.

  • Why does the screen on my IPad 3 go blank before it allows me to "slide to unlock"?"

I recently bought the iPad3.  When I turn it on, I see the home screen and the "slide to unlock", but I can't do anything until the screen goes blank.  Then I have to press the home button and the "slide to unlock" becomes accessible.  Is this normal?  Thanks!

I found apple service by calling number on the new ipad manual that comes in the ipad box. At the end pages of that manual there is number for support and service. You can also try to learn service number from the store you bought it. Or you live in a country which has Apple Store, give it to them to test it.
I thought it was a software issue too. I'm good on using software. I struggled a lot to find the trick. I searched net about it and saw it happens with ipads, iphones, android phones, generally touch screens. Don't accept ro reset your device advice if it is repeating.

  • My ipad turns in but will not boot up. screen stays blank. I've tried resetting it and rebooting from itunes. It says it is done but the screen still stays blank. The apple icone will show up intermittetly.

I turned on my ipad after charging it and the screen went blank. I tried the home button and on off button and that did not help. I went to iTunes and rebooted the ipad and restored it and it asked me to reboot from the ipad but the screen is still blank. It will go to a blue screen if I hit the on/off button. What else is there to check?

If you restored the iPad, there is nothing else to check. I suggest that you make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and let them evaluate your iPad.

  • Boot chimes sound but the screen stays dark - why?

Our iBook (16 VRAM) 700 has appeared to die. The normal boot chimes sound when the power switch is pressed (but only after a forced quit) but the screen stays dark and no hard drive activity can be heard.
Is this probably the "dreaded logic board video chip problem" I have read about in several places?
If so how do I rescue important files (like my wife's novel)!!! Strip the computer down and pull the hard drive? It was running Panther so there is no Time Machine backup.

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode? (This probably won't work, but it's worth a try.)
After leaving it sit overnight, does squeezing the case to the left of the trackpad allow you to start up and work for a bit as long as you keep the pressure on it there? If so, you may want to consider trying the shim fix suggested by John Sawyer in the Apple Discussions iBook G3 (Dual USB) Displays Forum:
[Y]ou can often fix this yourself by removing the iBook's bottom housing, and placing a shim of any sort, about 1mm to 1.5mm thick, onto the raised square on the bottom shield. I use a Scotch mounting square--you can get them in hardware stores and many grocery stores. When you reinstall the bottom case, it will press against this shim, which will press against the graphics chip, and may allow the chip to come into better contact with the logic board.
