Why is the soundtrack broken in slideshows?

Hello everyone,
I'm burning a PAL DVD with iDVD which contains a movie and two slideshows, which I've done many times before without a problem. Now though, the sound is broken, generally when the picture changes in the slideshows. It just drops out. It plays ok on the iMac I burned it on, but having tried it on a couple of DVD players with TVs, the problem occurs.
Originally, I had one slideshow with probably around 90 photos, timed to fit with the audio. The track had to repeat itself due to the number of photos. Thinking this might be the problem, I split the slideshow into two, using two different soundtracks. The result was the same.
I next tried one slideshow with just 40 photos, with the audio to fit, and the other with 65 photos, but not fitted to audio. Just 3 secs. per photo. That didn't change anything either, so I'm stumped.
Has anyone else encountered this?

The Burn Speed is IMPORTANT as this use to be one of the major culprits when coming to use the DVD in PCs or even on the Mac that made it.
Slower is BETTER
But by Saving as a DiskImage one get one more Safety step - and I always does this Now.
Then I use - Disk Util tool to do the Burn and here one selects Burn Speed in the Burn Process.
In iDVD go up to Top row Menu
- Apple / iDVD
- and down here to Preferences
- and here select Advance
- Now at the bottom of this window there is Burn Speed
AND there seems to be a linguistic problem for Apple
BEST - use to NOT BE BEST AT ALL in several applications - I NEVER USE BEST BURN SPEED
as this use to mean Shortest TIME = MOST BURN ERRORS Possibly.
I use x2 or x4 for DVD and SO TOO for CDs (AND same goes for encoding qualities - for 45 to 120 minutes movies I use Pro Quality - and for 1 to 45 minutes movie + menu I use Best Performances. High Quality and Best Quality (in iDVD 6) - are the lowest quality that iDVD can DO.
I've very few problematic DVDs or CDs
Yours Bengt W

This VI is from the shipping example "Waveform and XY Plots.vi" and you are not using it right. As others have already hinted, you need an array of xy clusters. (Note the autoindexing output tunnel!).
Here's the code from the example.
What are you actually trying to do? Why don't you use a plain xy graph?

When I sync iphone to itunes, why do my soundtracks not show as albums but via artist?  IE: Pulp Fiction has 16 songs by different artists.  In itunes I can pull up pulp fiction and play the 16 songs.  In iphone sync the 16 songs are seperate and listed by Al Green, cowboy junkies etc... How to fix this so the ipod part of my iphone will show & play the soundtracks as albums... thanks.

What is selected under the Music tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
If you have chosen selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres - if Pulp Fiction is available under the Albums section to be selected as an Album to be transferred to your iPhone, is it selected?
If so, when you select Albums via the iPod on your iPhone, the album is not available there to select?
You can always create an iTunes playlist with these songs placing the songs in your preferred order.

  • Why don't pictures from a slideshow made in iPhoto and then burned on to a DVD in iDVD not use the full screen?

Why don't pictures from a slideshow made in iPhoto and then burned on to a DVD in iDVD not use the full screen?

All I want to do is send my family the pictures for them to be able to see them on most dvds and use manually control.
If you want set top DVD player playback, I suggest you create a a series of slideshows IN iDVD that each contain a MAXIMUM of 99 images. Do not create the slideshow in iPhoto or iMovie.
Is there an easier way to do this, bypassing iDVD?
Some DVD players will play a disc containing jpeg images

Have you looked at Delete and Close Gap as well as Delete for what you describe?
Nonetheless, adding or moving clips to an existing Timeline content without disturbing the existing Timeline content can be challenging and complex under certain scenarios.
Typical solutions include making these moves with a keyboard modified held down (Windows Alt or Ctr). I am strictly an Elements Windows user, so we will need to find the Mac counterparts for the Windows keyboard modifier techniques.
Also, if one move triggers a multi-chain disaster, then you should consider grouping block of clips so that they do not move while you are busy with your Timeline maneuvers. Check out the Clip Menu options for Group and Ungroup.
Some times in the "Mac condition", you need to use fn in addition to the command to achieve some of these Windows counterparts.
The following video tutorial on arranging clips and keyboard modifiers is being posted for informational non promotional reasons.
Premiere Elements: Arranging clips on the Timeline using modifier keys | lynda.com - YouTube
It is demo'd with Premiere Elements 8, but the principles are the same for later versions of the program.
Here is one variation of the issue on Windows.
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE: Delete and Close Gap Failures
You should not have to delete audio to prevent it from being split by an addition to an existing Timeline. The keyboard modifiers should help you resolve this type of issue.
    Please review and consider.
    Thanks.

I just want to edit songs from itunes into a soundtrack for a slideshow but GB won't let me save it as an archive so the end result is very tinny. Help!

to Itunes as a compressed file
Try to save to iTunes uncompressed - if you uncheck the "compress" option, the file will be exported in aiff-format, CD quality. The file size will be larger, but your slideshow will have a better soundtrack.

  • When I try to loop my iDVD slideshow, the soundtrack glitches.  How can I fix this?

    Hi,
I have a DVD slideshow that I've been trying to loop without glitches.  However, whenever it loops back to the beginning, the soundtrack starts and stops once before continuing on.
Also, at the 100-slide mark, my DVD always glitches.  It doesn't do it on the computer, just on the DVD.  I read somewhere that it's because DVD players restart (or something like that) around 99 or 100 slides.  Is there anyway I can fix this?
Any advice would be appreciated!  Thanks so much!

iDVD isn't the best place to create slideshows (as you have found).  Slides in iDVD created slideshows are considered to be Chapters and a Track can contain a maximum of 99 Chapters.  iDVD links Tracks together to make longer slideshows but most set top DVD players will pause or freeze on the Track change (going to your 100th image).
All you can do is create your slideshow as a movie in iMovie (or a commercial application like FotoMagico that I use or Photo to Movie that others here use).

  • Why do the youtube clips not expand properly when I double click on the page

why do the youtube clips not expand properly when I double click on the page

The exclamation mark is telling you that iPhoto has broken the file path/link to the original file. Assuming you're using iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Why has the transition changed for the Classic theme

Some years ago I asked how to have no transitions on a slideshow and I was told to use the Classic theme. This had Transition: None. I used this to convert many 4:3 photos to 16:9 HD for display on TV, one by one.
Now, when doing the same, the last second had the Dissolve feature even though it had Transition: None! Some how it has now changed to Transition: Dissolve and I can't find a way to change it back.
    I'm using iPhoto 11 v 9.2.3, created 25/8/10 6.06am, modified 3/4/12 1.18am, on OS X 10.6.8.
My earliest backup (Time Machine) was 14/9/12 & has exactly the same iPhoto details. The modified date (3/4/12) was when I downloaded the 9.2.3 version. One photo previously modified is dated 27/11/12. Some how the transition changed since I used it even though iPhoto wasn't changed since a date 7 months earlier? I've reverted back to the 14/9/12 backup and it shows Transition: Dissolve even though that version was used for the photo and had None at the time!!!
I've tried modifying/deleting various iPhoto Plist files; iPhoto just modifies/re-creats them. I've even re-installed iPhoto from the original iLife disc onto the 14/9/12 system, but when I tried to use it it told me I have to get an upgrade. Upgraded to v 9.1 and upon opening it said it couldn't use the current photo storage space because it's a newer version (something like that) and asked if I wanted to Cancel or Create a new one and only gave Cancel as an option! Updating again creates v 9.2.3 (date: Today) and it has Transition: Dissolve.
I now believe there must be a file somewhere that contains this setting but, where and why wasn't it reset after restoring from backup?
Any help would be much appreciated.

I cannot check with your version any longer. But where have you checked the "Transition" setting?
Check in both places for the slideshow settings - the "All Slides" tab, and the "this Slide"tab for individual slides.
(This screenshot is from version 9.6 -sorry)
The properties of your slideshows will be stored in the iPhoto library. Have you run the First aid Tools to repair the permissions and the library?
    Do the following:
To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the options-command keys ⌥⌘ while double clicking your iPhoto Library.
Keep the keys held down firmly until the First Aid panel appears.
Then select  "Repair database" from the First Aid pane.
The may take a while for a large library.
    Repeat with "Repair Permissions".

  • Why is the iPhoto Library file so big?

Why is the iPhoto Library File so big?
I cancelled the option in settings that it copies the files to the Library but the LIbrary file grows and grows when I import new photos?
    Can someone help me?

You have disabled "Copy items to the iPhoto Library"?
Then the original image files should not be imported; you can check this by selecting one of the recently imported photos and using the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File". Does it show you a file outside the library?
Your library will grow in size, when you import and edit photos, even if the originals are not included. iPhoto will store thumbnails of your photos, previews of the edited versions, of the faces, and if you sync your library with iTunes, there will also be an iPod Photo cache, that can be quite large:
iTunes: Understanding the iPod Photo Cache folder
You know, that  disabling "Copy items to the iPhoto Library" is quite risky, don't you? Just in case you are not aware of the risks - iPhoto does provide no tools at all, if the connection between your referenced original files and your thumbnails in iPhoto gets broken. Or if you need to move your photos to a different drive, when the drive fails, as will happen one day. You will not be able to migrate the library to a new computer or restoring from your backup will be difficult. You will need third party apps like iPhoto Library Manager to recover from such a situation.
If you need to free space on your mac it is much safer to move the whole library to an external drive, or to split it and relocate the partial library with the older photos to an external drive.

  • Why is the photo only black in Edit mode with iPhoto 11?

Why is the photo only Black in Edit mode?
Everything works fine, except when I try to edit a photo, it shows as only Black.
I have tried every fix talked about on this forum, and some others - nothing fixes it.
Is this a Feature ? or is it a bug that no one is interesteed in fixing? It doesn't fill me with confidence in Apple when I see such random little glitches remaining unfixed.

Is it the same for newly created slideshows?  Although a long shot give this a try:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE 1: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the above fails as a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it doesn't then the following my be your next step:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

The PDF file and slideshow view corrupted using iPhoto. Macbook air only get corrupted slideshow and Mac Mini both slideshow and PDF file is corrupted.

Saving as a PDF file for some users have been a problem.  If you boot into  Safe Mode and run iPhoto you can create undamaged PDF files.  We don't know why the problem but this is a workaround.
This problem prevents many from ordering books, calendars and cards since iPhoto creates PDF file of them for uploading and printing.  Booting into Safe Mode lets them successfully order those items.

  • Why is the screen of the 5S so fragile?

Why is the screen of the 5S so fragile?

Gorilla Glass is actually quite tough. But being glass it can still break. A sharp pointed impact will very likely fracture the glass into multiple cracks. Dropping on the edge of the device may produce a crack across the device. A case will help.
When you buy the device you get Applecare+. One incident of broken glass will more than recoup the cost of Applecare+. Applecare+ allows two incidents within a two year period plus extends your device warranty by an additional year. For an expensive device adding such coverage would seem to be a good idea.

Why does the color red change from working with images in develop to library?  The color gets lighter and nothing shows a change on histogram but visually you can see it.

That's probably a broken display profile. The conversion from Library's Adobe RGB is different than the conversion from Develop's linear ProPhoto, so if there's a problem with the display profile it can show up this way.
Recalibrate, or if you don't have a calibrator use sRGB. If your monitor is a wide gamut model use Adobe RGB.
Assuming Windows, change it in Control Panel > Color Management > Devices, and relaunch Lightroom so that it can pick up the new profile at startup:
