I have an external display, soundcard and hard drive connected at the moment. Dunno if that could cause the problem.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

The current excitation is set at 1mA but is actually 1.0035 mA from the board. The Daq card I am using is a DaqCard-A
I16XE-50.

Two quick things to check are: make sure the sensor does not exceed a max resistance of 8.5k ohms and do not leave any current excitation sources unloaded.
Also, check out chapter five of the SC-2042 user manaul (attached) about how to calibrate the device. This may help get rid of the bad readings.

if it was iMessage, you wouldn't be charged, because they don't send as sms. I would contact your carrier, because this is a weird issue that is most likely happening from their end

How do i get music videos to play like the music does on my ipad, for example one right after another and shuffle

I need to know how I can get the music videos on my IPad to play like the music does. What I mean id setting up a playlist, shuffle, and have them play one right after another instead of going back to the main screen.

At the top of the playlist where it shows the playlist title and the number of songs, there are two icons. Click the "play" triangle to add the entire playlist to "Up Next", or the "shuffle" symbol to do the same thing but in random order. But the currently playing track will stop playing, and all the songs in "Up Next" will be removed (replaced by the ones from this playlist).
If you hold down the "option" key while clicking those icons, the currently playing song will continue playing, and the new playlist will be added to "Up Next" (above the songs that were already there).

How can I check the temperature of my MBP?

I'm slightly concerned about how hot my MBP can get and I want to be able to get an accurate reading, is there something I can use to do this? Or is there something in the OS that allows me to read the current temperature?

Personally I would install Michael Bresnik's program called "Hardware Monitor" it will allow you to monitor both core's temps, GPU temp, HD temp, fan speeds and all sorts of cool things. it wil display them in the menu, on the desktop, in windows etc etc. There is a free "Lite" version but its worth the $ (I think its like $10-$15). Its a Universal app and its a mandatory ap for me.

Why does the left side of mbp 4.1 get abnormally hot? What's is the problem?

Hello Everyone:
The bottom of my 2008, 15" 4.1 mbp has always gotten very hot. lately however, it gets extremely hot. The other night, I fell asleep with it open, on my lap and it literally burned me and left a nice blister on my lap. I think the fans are working because in a recent update, I've forgotten which one, the fans did go on and I heard them. Is this kind of heat normal? What, if anything, should I be doing to ensure it's not going to burn itself out? Obviously I'm not going to put it on my lap again but it's never done that in the past. Any thoughts anyone?
Thanks in advance for your help. I can't do much internal work since I've recently suffered a small stroke-like issue that's paralyzed my arms and taken fine motot movement out of my hands. If it's easy work htough, I may be able to get one of my kids to give me a hand.

Ok Austin. I've downloaded iStat. I can barely see the writing but the app is totally interesting. If there's a way to enlarge it without having to use the 'control' function to zoom in on it, that would be great. Aside from that, it looks like it may well tell me what's happening to my system's temps. As for the overheating, what you said is very interesting. I may very well be blocking one of the fans. We shall see! Thanks and hopefully blocking one of the fans!

Why are the K-thermocouple values (first DAQmx channel) are wrong after creating second (voltage type) DAQmx channel?

I am trying to Creating an Analog Input Task with Multiple Measurement Types: Voltage and K-thermocouples (the system is PCI6034E – SCXI1000 –SCXI1122-SCXI1322). It does not work properly: as soon as I add second "DAQmx create channel" for voltage I start reading wrong K-thermocouple values (100-160 deg C instead of 24.3-24.7) and it does not depend on sampling rate, etc. The Labview example "Multiplechannels_Created.vi" gives me same wrong temperatures. Did somebody meet this problem? Thanks.

I am sorry for confusion. The program, which was attached in my previous message: DAQ_Task is not working properly with my hardware as I have already described it above. Do you have any ideas where can it be a problem: PCI6034E?, Chasse?, thermocouples?, Computer?
As I mentioned, currently, another approach for Temperature and Voltage data acquisition (see attached file) is realized, but it will be not suitable for fast data acquisition tasks.

Why do the speakers on my iPad get hot?

Well I was playing 'the missing' on my iPad and I noticed that the speakers are quite warm.
The battery level was 51%. Why is this happening?

Well, by extension they might :-) But Diavonex is right, the whole iPad case generally heats up, especially when charging or doing something CPU intensive like playing 3D games.

HT2478 Why does the desktop photo application rotate my photos 90 degrees?

I have attached an image. The folder my photos are stored in is located below the Desktop and Screensaver app.
Notice that the orange arrows point from photos that are properly oriented in the folder they are saved in, but for some reason they are rotated when the desktop app pulls them up.
Does anyone know why this happening and how I can correct it?

That's one of the "Features" of iPhoto, it tags photos as rotared instead of actually rotating them, many other Apps will not recognize the tag & display them as they really are stored.

Why does the song I imported from iTunes to edit, sound weak after burning to a CD?

I needed to shorten a song that's on a commercially available CD because it has a rather long instrumental in it. We're using this in my church as part of the service.
What I did: I ripped the CD into iTunes, then I opened a new project in Garage Band as "Loops", drug the song into the track, chopped out the lengthy part, sent it to iTunes, made a "Play List" in iTunes and burned a CD. The result was a recording that sounds weak and lack luster. The original CD sounds so awesome that you just have to get out of your seat and participate (it's a Call & Response song), whereas the shorter version that I created sounds dull and the congregation is left feeling kinda' ho-hum. :-(
What did I do wrong? What should I do differently? I don't mind doing everything all over again, I just don't want to burn through 10 CDs before discovering by trial and error. Thanx in advanced for everybody's input...

Why is the color offset on Flash Player in my Firefox, even after reinstalling both Firefox and Flash Player?

I have the latest version of Flash Player, the latest version of Firefox and my system is a Windows 7 64-bit. Every time I view a Flash Player window, the green color is offset down about one-quarter of the window. This makes it difficult to use Firefox to watch Flash content. This does not happen on any other browsers I have.

When I click that link, it goes (as it should from a U.S. IP Address) to the hyperlinked page 87, which is where the English portion begins.
Your browser or International settings may prevent it from doing so, but I have nine machines that ALL parse the link the same way.

Why does the adapter/recharger plug get so hot?

When we recharge the iPad2, the adapter plug gets very hot, even if the iPad is turned off. I always plug it into a surge protector, but it concerns me...

Yes, it is perfectly normal for power adapters (including the iPad included 10W adapter) to get considerably warm
(to the point where you would not want to hold your hand on it for an extended period of time). I've had my fair share of power adapters over the years, and it seems the lower-end PC ones tend to get extremely hot (where you would not want to hold them in your hand for an extended period of time), but never to the point where it would be unbearable to hold in my hand.
If, indeed, it is too hot to hold or touch, then please make sure it has proper ventilation. Make sure it is not covered by a blanket or sheet, make sure it is not in a cramped corner, etc. If the overheating issue continues, assuming your device is under warranty, take the power adapter to Apple.
As far as this being a concern about like burning down your house, it will certainly not get to that point. More than likely, the worst that could happen is the power adapter overheats and dies, but please again check to make sure the power adapter is plugged in right, and has proper ventilation . . . two very important things.

Why do the messages that I send to my friend fire right back to my devices? -they send to them and then my number as well

They send to my bfs iPhone and then they are delivered to either my iPhone or iPad

If you both are sharing the same Apple I.D. then that is what causing this problem.
Change the Apple I.D. (make a new one for her) and activate the FaceTime and iMessage on her iPhone using the new I.D.

2007 MBP Running Hot and Freezing occasionally after 10.6.3

This is obviously not normal. Anyone else experiencing this or know of the cause or a fix?
It's gotten so hot I've resorted to placing a towel in my lap. iStat says the CPU is running at 148 degrees, all the time, with the GPU frequently hitting 160, and both fans are running full bore.
The freezes come and go, and usually only last for 20-30 seconds, but when they do pop up, they happen frequently, as many as 10 times per hour.
I don't think I am doing anything differently than I have always done. No new software, etc.

I don't have 10.6 on anything but I believe this works for SL. In Applications > Utilities you will find Activity Monitor (hereafter AM to avoid the extra typing). Launch it and look at its "Show" selector at the top of the window. By default, AM launches to "User Processes" and that seldom shows enough. Change it to "All Processes" to get a good look at the true background picture.
Look at the columns AM presents. Find the "%CPU" column and click on it to sort the list by usage. When the computer is idling (you've quit all applications so only the Finder is active), no process should be more than 4-6 percent (might be a little different in SL). Basically you're looking for things that are using double-digits of the CPU cycles when the computer seems to be at idle..
Processes with "mds" in the name are related to Spotlight indexing but don't run that often after the initial install. If "syslogd" is running at high numbers, something is writing a bunch of stuff to system.log. I had that happen on my MBP with the demo for the game "Prey." Even when the computer was only idling, the demo continued to write to the log file and ballooned it from its usual size of ~250K to over 60MB, and ran the heat up to boot. Deleting the demo and a restart cured that insanity.
I found a process related to Safari 4 called Safari Webpage Preview Fetcher that ran a lot. It's how Tops Sites gets page previews. I now avoid using Tops Sites, especially on our slower G4 Macs which constitute the majority of our household Mac-ness. That process really gummed the works in those older Macs, all running 10.4.11.
You might want to repeat the question in the Snow Leopard forums. Someone more familiar with SL may see a pattern in the shutdowns and stalls. The 10.6 forums are here:

Why do I have a double set of icons on top right after install?

After downloading and installing beta 4 i get double icons on top. I removed them by customizing but now when I open new tabs I dont have any way to close them as in no little x.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
