Why is the text so small on some webpages?

I have a brand new computer and installed Nightly. On many web pages the font is tiny, thin, and unreadable -- even if I zoom in, the base font is terrible. It looks like the thinnest weight of Helvetica.
On my old computer, in traditional Firefox, I had a similar issue on some pages -- the text became unreadable while I was entering a new comment on Facebook. Now, this is an issue in regular web pages.
I do not think this is "zoom" issue, but rather a problem with the browser selecting an inappropriate typeface. Below, please find two screen captures, one at normal resolution, one Zoomed in (Ctrl + five times)

Could you try reattaching the screen shots? You can reply to your thread here: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1054776

• Why is the text so small in the log in screen?

I am visually-impaired. Why is the text so small in the log in screen?

You can try to set the display resolution to something like 1024x768 (from the "Best for display") in the "Displays" System Preferences - this will "enlarge" things on the login screen as well as after, (the trick about using the Option key to zoom does not work on the login screen), and then after logging in, reset the Display resolution back to "Best for display".
To use the "Option" key for zooming -- set in the "Accessibility" System Preference Zoom options "Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom" to Option.
Not sure, but you might also be able to affect this by changing the default system font. If the above doesn't help, say so and will do a bit more research to see how to change this and see if it also applies to the login screen
Good luck...

• Why is the text so small on this web site???

Why is the message text so small on this web
site?? It is almost impossible to read!!
The navigation text is tiny as well, I cant
read a word of the navigation bar at the top
of this page.
If this is produced using Netweaver, I am
very concerned.
Come on SAP, this needs addressing.

On my computer it is OK, but I have seen this on other machines too. But this surely is not connected to NetWeaver, as you surely knew
I'll forward this to SDN personell.

• Why is the text not the visible in the protected PDF opened on Mac?

Long story short:
I've created a document in Microsoft Word 2010 and saved it as PDF. With the .pdf open now in Acrobat Reader 9.4.1 I have enabled the protection over the .pdf file by only allowing Printing and saved the protected .pdf. All of these actions are made on Windows 7 machine. Now when trying to open the protected .pdf on Mac (with Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and Preview) the .pdf opened only shows the lines and bullets but not the text.
Why is the text not visible in the protected PDF opened on Mac?
(is this bug or a "feature"?)
Note: the protected .pdf looks good on Windows 7 and it works on Mac if the .pdf has no protection.
Thanks!

A. What application are you using to add the protection? Reader cannot add any file security and I don't think the PDF feature of Word will either.
B. Mac Preview has issues with PDF standards so there may be some features that you will experience issues with that have no workarounds.
C. Have you checked the file after adding security to see if all fonts are embedded?

Why is the text garbled when I convert a pdf file to microsoft word ?

Hi amedah,
Could you please try converting any other PDF file with same fonts and then check.
It might also happen due to use of some poor fonts which result in garbled text.
Is the PDF scanned?
Let me know.

Kirby:
. What version of OS X?
10.6.8 - latest Snow Leopard.
. How are you determining the size of the Vault?
Using Finder: "Size 5.8 MB on disk".
. What exactly did you do that you describe as "I decided to set up a Vault to back up to the Time Machine external hard drive.". In general, Time Machine should be on a drive dedicated to it (that is, with nothing else on it).
Oops, right: I meant Time Capsule. Time Machine is backing up to the Time Capsule, but I thought I could also use the Time Capsule as an external hard drive as well as a target for Time Machine. So, this is a non-no?
. How many images show up when you select "Photos" from near the top of the Library tab of the Inspector and filter using the Filter Rule "File Status" with the argument "Referenced"?
1. Thanks for getting me to learn Aperture's "filtering" (Command-F). Cool.
2. No images. Aha. So, do this mean all the masters are in the iPhoto library?
But, using Finder:
iPhoto Library: 18.2 GB 8,014 items
Aperture Library.aplibrary: 20.6 GB 7,945 which would be right: I did some deleting after importing from iPhoto
Aperture Vault: 5.8 MB

• Why is the text going over the image????

Please refer to video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rN6Ndm9sFo&feature=youtu.b
Why is the text going over the image when the text layer is below the image layer?? It is so frustrating.

Are you sending the texts to his phone number or his Apple ID? It might be that the texts originated from your phone is to his Apple ID and not his phone number and his Apple ID was not registered for the Message app on his phone. So any texts to his Apple ID is not received by his phone.
Can you receive his texts? If yes, then reply back from what he send you and see if he can receive the texts.

Not necessarily an iPhone but rather if they have iMessage support at the address you're using.
If you're using an email address they could have an iOS device or a Mac.

Hi! Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

• Why does the text size shrink when I make the window smaller?

I have some notes in a DOCX page. I don't want the entire page blocking up the desktop yet I want to see the notes. When I change the size of the page, the text shrinks too. How useless is that?
How to I keep the text normal size and have a smaller page?
Everything I know I learned from my cat. No matter what the situation is, there is a napp for that.

Hi,
When we I change the size of the page manually in Word 2013, the text won’t shrinks. I also resize the window via code below:
Sub ReSizeWinodw()
Application.ActiveWindow.WindowState = wdWindowStateNormal
Application.ActiveWindow.Width = 500
Application.ActiveWindow.Height = 500
End Sub
It won’t shrink the text too. If you are using code to resize the window of Word, would you mind sharing with us some code snippet to help us to troubleshoot this issue?
If not, I suggest you posting it to

Best regards

• Why is the text in the panels so small?

I am new to Indesign. In fact I am evalutating for use at my company.
The panels are pretty much unusalbe, the text is way to small.
It looks like it is about a 6pt font.
Please someone tell me there is a way to change this.

I too am evaluating indesign for use in a Product Design group for a major engineering software manufacturer. Sometimes in software design we have to make concessions that no one likes in order to achieve our goals. With our products we usually address any concessions in a follow up release. I hope that Adobe has been forced into this situation and has not willingly chosen to forgo rudimentary functionality. From what I have observed with indesign CS4 I am unimpressed. Here are a couple of my observations.
1. As stated the UI is missing basic user controls like the ability to change the font size.
2. Vertically docking toolbars on the side of the screen is limited to a few bars. Any additional toolbars are forced into a side-by-side configuration. This creates a dead space below the toolbars where screen real estate is wasted. Not a big deal just unprofessional.
3. General image display quality is horrible! I have set View>Display Performance>High Quality Display and it does not matter if I embed or link images; does not matter if I use jpg, gif or png. The presentation is always ugly. The gif looks a little better than the others when viewing the document with indesign, however, an exported pdf has degraded quality with gif.
4. Performance. I am running on two rather beefy machines, details below, and with twenty page documents indesign is sluggish and unresponsive at times. This is not associated to embeded images as it occurs with or wtihout attached images. I am fearful of putting indesign to task with larger projects.
5. Selection methods are downright cumbersome. I have taken the time to learn some of the subtitles with the selection tools. For a rudimentary function this completely fails the intuitive test. I am not an indesign expert, but I shouldn't have to be either. Since software is my business I tend to pick it up quickly and I think I know my way around indesign pretty well; I find the selection tools to be awkward at best.
I use two computers regularly and experience all the mentioned issues on both computers.
#1 Lenovo laptop T60p, 15" 1680x1050 ATI Mobility FireGL V5250 256Mb, 2.7mhz, 3Gb RAM.  I often connect this to a 21" 1600x1200 Viewsonic monitor.
#2 HP Workstation 22" CRT 1920x1080 running an nVidia card 256Mb, 3mhz 4Gb RAM.
On the positive side I am impressed with the auto alignment features in CS4. (if these existed in CS3 I didn't encounter them in the short time I used CS3.) However, there are numerous basic features that are sorely lacking attention that in my opinion should have been addressed first. I would ask the indesign product managers to consider shoring up the rudimentary features of indesign before adding new features.

• After updating to version 9.0,Why is the text in the Awesome Bar greyed out and some of the text is black?

Some of the text is greyed out in the Awesome Bar,this page is greyed out except for mozilla.org is in black. It does this to every page.

The new behavior beginning in Firefox 7 is to highlight the domain (i.e., '''mozilla.org''') in the Location/URL/Address bar for easier identification.
Users can revert to the old behavior by setting browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled to false in about:config
#type '''''about:config''''' in the Location/URL/Address bar and press the Enter key
#if you see a warning, accept it (promise to be careful)
#Filter = '''browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled'''
#double-click on the pref in the lower panel to toggle it to "false" '''''OR''''' right-click on the pref in the lower panel and choose "Toggle" to toggle it to "false"
#close the about:config tab

• Why is the text on itunes squashed and compacted?

For some reason, all of the text on itunes is very small and overlap each other. Not sure why this happens but it is very annoying and blocks some of the features. The picture is an example of what I mean.

Another example from the Stairlifts.html page where <font><u>....<font><u> appears and even if corrected wouldn't be closed in the correct order.

<nowiki>

BRUNO STAIRLIFTS

</nowiki>

This should be with the second <font><u> changed to </u></font>

<nowiki>

BRUNO STAIRLIFTS

</nowiki>

Also note that font-family: "Arial Black" may require font-weight:900 to work properly in some cases
