Why is the trash taking so long to empty?

I recently migated my music files to iCloud through Match tumes and have put my music lrary folder in the Trash. I then emptied the trash and there were almost 10k files to delete. The first 9,000 or so went fairly nornal as afar as delete speed, but starting at file 1028, it's now taking up to an hour per file deleted.
I've tried a bunch of things including a PRAM reboot, but no luck so far. The files were on my external fire-wire drive. suggestions? Thanks!

Select  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar, then select Finder and press return. From the Finder menu bar, select Finder ▹ Preferences ▹ Advanced and uncheck the box labeled Empty Trash securely. Try again to empty the Trash. If you still have problems, follow the instructions in this support article:

Ok that explains it, selecting this adds a lot of time to the emptying,
A normal emptying of the trash is really a bookkeeping operation., The Operating System only marks the disk space where those files are as available to be used again but doesn't actually write over the data so this goes pretty quick.
With a secure erase the area on the disk where the data is stored is written over. This adds a lot of time to the operation.
So sit back you might be waiting for a bit

How much RAM do you have?
You might want to build it out to the max.
Macs are not gaming consoles, as such are not maximized for such use. They are computers, not gaming consoles, that is not to say they can't play games. Just understand that they will generate more heat and if you are using a game that is using a high number of CPU/GPU cycles, you may have to use an additional cooling apparatus.

Movies tend to be quite large files. around 1.2GB to 1.5GB for SD versions. Twce that if they are HD.
Depending on your Internet connection they can take a while to download.

Without seeing an execution plan of the query it is hard to suggest something useful. Try insert the result of UNION ALL to the temporary table and then perform an aggregation on that table, not a CTE.

Have you reset you iPad,or tried deleting the apps that are crashing and then opening them again. Or closing them and reopening them. Also clear Safari and see it that helps. There have been a few other posts like yours , and I can't figure out why it happens to some ipads and not others. I have not even seen what happens with a "crash" occurs and I use mine all the time. You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

All one gets from the download drop-down menu is:
(480p), (240p) or (360p) for example and the name of the video of course.
The way it is now, I cannot identify the type of video I am downloading as I could before.

Your assumptions are incorrect. Not all Youtube videos are offered in other formats; some are only offered in FLV format. Generally, only the very HD ones are offered in MP4. The format in which videos are offered are the decision of Youtube and/or the original poster of the video.
I opted to not pay for the VDH converter. There are FREE converters that will convert FLV to other formats, but they do not interface with VDH. Even the VDH converter is a 2-step process (in both manual or automatic mode). The converter that is included free with VDH will put an ugly icon/watermark on your converted video--every frame of the video. To find a free converter, just Google "free flv converter" (with the quotation marks).

The 'buy all' has, for some reason, been removed from the current version of iTunes - you can try leaving feedback for Apple and maybe it'll be added back in a future update :http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html . Until then you can only buy items individually.
In terms of the 'x' for deleting items from it, other people have posted about that and it's affecting me as well. I assume that there is a bug with the current version of iTunes and/or a problem at Apple's end which they need to fix.
