Why is the Video clip jumpy?

Why is the Video clip jumpy? I have just installed Premiere Elements 12 in a brand new computer:
Acer Aspire V5
CPU AMD Dual Core Processor a-4 APU with Radeon (TM HD Graphics 1.0 GHz)
4GB DDR3 memory
500 GB HDD
Windows 8.1
The file types are AVI, AVCHD, and MOV files

Lots of ways to go on this. But, I think starting with a definition of the source media and how you are setting up the project is going to be the path to success. So, we need to zero in on questions/answers related to what I wrote earlier
The properties of the source media need expanding up beyond "file types are AVI, AVCHD, and MOV.
a. What are the video and audio compression of the files with the .avi file extension and what is the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
b. What is the file extension for the file with the AVCHD video compression. Again, what is the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
c. What are the video and audio compression of the files with the .mov file extension and what is the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
You asked how to go about that. The best way is to run each of the file types through a video properties read out program such as MediaInfo
http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
Latest versions of that MediaInfo have been problematic in that you need to be on guard for any unwanted toolbars and installed "extra" programs (bloatware).
OR
We would not necessarily get more information, but we would get enough to put us in a good position, if we run the types through gspot utility (good for codec and basic information)...less bloatware concerns
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
The dialog that you would get from gspot would look like
Once we know the video and audio codecs, frame size, frames rates, interlaced or progressive frame rates, etc. that we are dealing with, we on a good course to set up the project settings to match those properties, independant of whatever export choices we have in mind. That we will address later after a successful import and edit.
OR
A third choice for getting at this information is less productive but can be a good last resort...knowing the brand/model/recording settings of the camera from which these files came.
Please review and then let us know if you can gather the file properties information details requested.
We will be watching for your results.
Thank you.

  • Why is the video clip I added framed by black and small?

The clip doesn't show up small until I add it into the rest of the video. I can't get it to go back full screen once its added. I can increase the size of the clip from "fit" to 25% and that works, but that increases the size of all the clips and they become much to large

    Hi fiddle,
George's comment was about creating a new sequence that matches the settings of the clip. In your case, you're adding a clip (or image) to an existing sequence and noticing that it's sized differently than the other clips already in the sequence. Watch the sixth video in the tutorial: at 5:12 you'll see how to scale the images by right-clicking them and choosing Scale to Frame Size.
This Help document explains the command further:
Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Motion: position, scale, and rotate clips
By the way, the 2014 release of Premiere Pro CC has a new, slightly different command called Set to Frame Size. The Help documents describe it as follows: "Use the Set To Frame Size command to scale an image to the sequence frame size without rasterizing the image. When you use this command, the native pixel resolution is preserved, letting you see the sharpest resolution when you zoom in on an image."
    Hope this helps.

  • Why would my video clips be running too fast when played on the monitor panel?

I posted my problem earlier today, but re-reading it maybe I didn't explain myself well enough.
My main question is: "why would my video clips be running too fast when played on the monitor panel ?".  This is occuring after I have selected my media from the Tasks Panel and placed them in correct order in the Timeline/Sceneline.  I knew something was wrong when I could see that the clips were not indicating their right length when viewed in the (expanded) timeline.  They were compressed into just a few seconds, whereas the clips should have been at least 5 minutes.  I ran the clips in the monitor and sure enough they ran too fast, with a lot of jerking movements.
The 3 video clips I am trying to make into a HD PAL video were taken with my Nokia N8 mobile video camera. These are in mp4 format. Can this present a problem ?  Note that when I play these individual HD clips on my computer in (Windows Media Player) they run fine.
After I placed the clips in my Project Panel (or before in the Organize Workspace), I have perforned no change or manipulation of the clips.  They are in their original state.
Just too confirm that the clips did seem to be compressed, I burnt a DVD, the resultant video ran in a matter of seconds.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that is what the problem was.
Although the video camera on my Nokia N8, mobile was capturing at 25fps,
for some reason once transfered over to PrE9 (via file transfer), the clip was interpreted as 500fps.  Once in Interpret Footage I was able to change the fps to 25.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Why the video clip will automatically "zoom in"?

I do not make any changes on the video clip, but when I drag the video to the channel, the video is zoom in. However when I drag it to working panel( is it the name of it? the top left area... ), it look normal.
Why this is happen? How can I solve this problem?

    Harm, you crack me up!
For the OP, it sounds like the footage you have is too big for the size of project you set up in Premier. the two have to match.
The SOURCE MONITOR (top left) resizes itself to fit whatever footage you happen to be looking at. It always "fits".
The PROGRAM MONITOR (top right) show the footage exactly how it relates to the project size. If, for instance, you put SD footage into an HD project, the footage would seem to small for the frame.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why is the music clip marked with a yellow warning sign?

While browsing my project library today, I noticed that every music clip associated with a particular project is marked with a yellow "warning" triangle (with an exclamation point in the center). What's worse, the music won't play.
I had previously uploaded this video to YouTube, where it now plays just fine. But I'm still puzzled by the warning sign, and by the fact that the music won't play when I take a look at it in my Project Library.
I've never had a warning sign like this emerge in connection with anything else I've put together with iMovie. Why is it there, and why are the music clips inoperative? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi !
I have a question. I had that little warning sign as well but in the clip I had just imported into the event library... I don't understand because when I went to the folder in which iMovie copies the clips I import, it was right there. Same name, same size, same runtime... and it played perfectly; and I could preview the clip in iMovie. But the thumbnail was gray with that little sign. Also, I couldn't delete the clip from my library.
I closed iMovie, started it again... the clip is in the library, no more gray thumbnail and little yellow sign.
    How is that possible ?!

  • Why is the video audio white noise when I share my project since I updated to 10.0.9

On the movies I created before I updated to 10.0.9, the audio prortion of the video is now white noise. The audio is fine when played back in FCP, but when i share the project it is white noise. When I burn it to BluRay the audio is gone all together. Even when I make a master file to my desktop, it still happens. The music I added to my project is fine. It just the audio that is part of the video clips that is affected. I've turned off the EQ's and Compressors I was using and I even tried moving the audio to the center channel instead of mono. No luck. Need some help. I can't figure this out.

I'm encountering the same problem as the original poster.  In my case, I'm using FCP 10.1 (running on OS 10.9.1).  My source file is DV video imported via FireWire from a DV camcorder.  The clip's audio is fine when playing inside of Final Cut Pro 10.1, but when I share the project the audio track is just white noise.  My share settings are to Apple 720p devices (the subseqent dialog boxes indicate the software has figured out it's really 640x480 video).
Here's what the QuickTime Inspector says about the source file:
    Format:
    DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 720 x 480 (640 x 480)
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
Linear PCM, 16-bit little-endian signed integer, 48004.6 Hz, Mono
    FPS:  29.97
    Data Size:  5.87 GB
    Data Rate:  30.30 Mbit/s
    Current Size:  640-480 (actual)
I tried changing from "faster encode" to "better quality", but it made no difference.
The rather dated version of Compressor I have (v3.5.3) was able to encode the clip to H.264 640x480 and the results are fine.  However, it took way longer than FCP 10.1 (I think it's too old to be taking advantage of the GPU).

  • Why is the video inside FCP 6 slightly darker than the OS

Why is the video playback inside FCP 6.0.5 slightly darker than wehn I play the same Quick Time file just inside the normal OSX10.5?
I'm using a Cinema HD 23" monitor running at 1920x1200 and display profile is Cinema HD Calibrated
    Thx
    Kevin

It is darker because that is a more closely representational GAMMA as to what you will see on your external broadcast monitor. QT lightens the gamma to ensure that most computer monitors can see the footage. As stated, if you want the gamma to appear darker, enable FCP COLOR COMPATIBILITY in the QT preferences.
WHY does it look more like what you see in FCP when you view this on a PC? Well, that is the monitor that PC is using. Take this file, put it on 10 PC all with different monitors and you will see 10 different gammas. The monitors themselves can be set to certain DISPLAY PROFILES (look in your DISPLAYS section under COLOR)...so you can have a HUGE variety of looks.
The reason is because of the monitors and the computers driving them.

  • Why is the video buffering when downloading

why is the video that I am downloading buffering on my imac.

Probably because your Internet connection is too slow. What speed is your connection? Your computer is running much faster than your connection can provide the movie data.

Don't edit the audio into the timeline. Or pull the audio level down to zero in the inspector or on the audio waveform in the timeline.

  • How do I import video clips from iPhoto if it doesn't recognize the video clips in iMoive

I'm trying to make a movie using iMovie and I recorded some clips using a Sony Digital Camera and iMovie won't let me upload the video clips from iPhoto. I try to import them but when i try to click on the file, it won't let me. Like its not bold like other files (It will let me upload video that were taken with my iPhone) I have iMovie 09.
What do I need to do?
    Thanks!
    Ayca

Do you plan to put each video clip in iDVD to be playes separately?  If so then here's how:
1 - open iDVD and select your theme.
2 - click on the Media button at the bottom right and then on the Photo button at the top.
3 - in the search window type in ".mov" (or the extension of the video clips you plan to use).
4 - all of the video clips with the extension you entered will be displayed and you can drag them into the menu area at the left.
Another way would be to put all of the video clips in an Album and click on that album to view and drag the clips:
Remember, the order that they are added to the menu will be the order that the buttons will highlight when you scroll thru the buttons with a DVD player remote.
This will give you a menu with a separate button for each video clip (up to 12 in a menu with some themes).
If you want to play all of the clips one after another you could create a slideshow in iDVD with the "+" button at the bottom and drag the video clips into the slideshow as you would still photos.  Set the slide duration to anything but manual and don't apply any transition.
That will let you play all of the clips sequentially.

  • WHY DO THE VIDEOS I AM TRYING TO VIEW (YOU TUBE ETC) START AND STOP ALL THE TIME.. I HATE THAT!!!

Why do the videos that I am trying to view (you tube etc) always start and stop.  it is very annoying and I can't seem to fix it.... thanks for your pointers...  as you can see, I am not a techie.  the fact that numbers, letters and picture appear on my computer screen is

Make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Flash Player.
    A suggestion:
Go to YouTube, open any video and press pause (don't do this while video is playing).
Click the ctrl key or “right click” the mouse in the middle of the video window. The settings for flash player will pop up.
Select the video settings then select "enable hardware acceleration."
    Press close.
Now RESTART YOUR  COMPUTER not just Safari if that is your browser of choice.

  • Why do the youtube clips not expand properly when I double click on the page

why do the youtube clips not expand properly when I double click on the page

The exclamation mark is telling you that iPhoto has broken the file path/link to the original file. Assuming you're using iPhoto 9 or later Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I belive I have fixed the video clip pan updating problom in iMovie hd.

I belive I have fixed the video clip pan updating problom in iMovie hd. I have been using my VCR with my Director's Cut 2 video converter with my iMac G5. To convert my VHS home movies to DVD. The problom I had been having is when I captuerd the video to my Mac is when I go back to play it back. I would click on a video clip and it would tell me it had to update the file and then I could play the clip. That drove me nuts. So first I went to the Apple store and I got the new iLife 6. So then I come home and update everything with it. Then I test it again same thing happens to me. Well to say the lest I was lived mad. Till I thought of something let me try one more thing. So I went for brocke. I hooked up my mindv camcorder and my VCR though the pass though A/V pass though conector and then I hook the cam up to my Mac. So I go to record bingo. I hit the clip and it did not have to update then I made more and more and bingo I think I fixed it nock on wood. But I also ordered a Canopus 110 video converter to see if. I can get it to work were I do not have to use my mindv cam to do the convertion all the time and ware it out. Some how my DC2 was making the video clip it took into a difrent formate some how go figuer.

You might hit it lucky as there's a free conversion program called MPEG Streamclip <This Link is a direct download>. You can download it and drag one of your clips into the App Window then Export it to .mov (In the window that pops up there's a pulldown list and you should Choose Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC).
Do you know what format the videos are in? Do they have a 3 letter file extension like .mpg, or .mts or .m2ts or anything like that?
