Why is there a box around my Photoshop image showing in my InDesign file when I print?

I created a brochure in InDesign, in which I have imported two Photoshop images of buses that I had previously clipped in Photoshop. The file looks fine in InDesign and even when I export as a PDF, but when I print the PDF I can see a box surrounding one of my clipped buses. How do I fix this issue?
InDesign File:
PDF File:
Printed:

You will always see it on a laser printer, not on offset. Doesn't matter if you print from InDesign directly or from any exported PDF.
What I do:
I do the transparency as you did in Photoshop
I add a path around everything which has no transparency (Opacity ≠ 0). This path will surround also the smooth transition from the object to the transparent area.
I define this path as clipping path.
I place the image with this clipping path into InDesign. I select the clipping path.
I convert the clipping path into the image frame (right mouse click context menu.)
The image will go smooth to the background but for the laser printer it will cut away the part which will cause the YDB syndrome. So the image will fit for both, laser and offset.

  • Why are there weird boxes around text in the Apple apps I use in mavericks?

After I updated to Mavericks I noticed these weird grey boxes that appear around the text in some of the Apple-made apps I use lime Pages, Reminders, etc. Also, in a finder window, whenever some of my tabs are open, the tab's colour is different from that of the header of the window. I checked other people macs which has mavericks but none of them had the same problem. Here are a few images of my problems:

So nobody else has seen this problem? Is that the gist I'm getting?

  • I have these black boxes around all the images i add. why are they there and how do i get rid of them?

i have black boxes around all the images i bring into pages. why are they there and how can i get rid of them?

Pages rememebers the last setting you used on images.
So if you had a border on the last image the next one you bring in will have one too.
    To change that select:
    Inspector > Graphic > Stroke > None
Spend a little time exploring the menus and particularly the Toolbar and Inspectors whcih are in reasonably logical progression from big things down to smaller details and clearly labeled.
It is also possible that you have show Layout on which outlines objects on th screen so you can see what's what. To change that:
Menu > View > Hide Layout

Only Apple could answer as to why there is no "select all/"delete all" function in the iOS mail app. Users have been bemoaning this lack of functionality for years now. Like everyone else, you can submit feedback to. Apple here.
    Apple - iPhone - Feedback
While I understand the whole idea of being able to use the phone on the run, if you have an IMAP email account, and if you have access to a computer at work during the day, use your "select all" function on the server and delete all of the unwanted email there and it will be removed from the phone as well.
That doesn't solve the problem on the phone, but it gets rid of the email which is your ultimate goal anyway.

  • Why the White Lines around imported Photoshop Images

Working in CS6, importing native Photoshop images into an Illustrator gradient.  Certain imported Photoshop images, with transparent background, produce white lines bordering the images.   The white lines stand out against the AI gradient.  The whites lines are not visable on screen.  They came out in the commercially printed product.  The overall AI document, with PS images placed and linked, was save to a PDF.  It was then printed from the PDF. The PDF, as viewed on screen, does not show the white lines either.  Why and how do the white border lines (the box surrounding the image) appear?

First I would recommend making sure there are indeed »no pixels« there in Photoshop – applying the Layer Style Stroke can help locate stray, semitransparent pixels.
Other than that I am afraid your print service provider may not have provided optimal output.
What print process was employed anyway?
It looks like flattening effects, but those should simply not be visible in print.
They happen when exporting X1 or X3 pdfs, which disallow transparency, so in creating the pdf the psd files that have transparency are flattened with whatever background and often broken up into smaller parts.
That way a whole mess of fragmentary images can be created, as one can see when one opens such a pdf in Illustrator.
One can avoid that by creating X4 pdfs, which do allow transparency, but if those can be processed by the printer is another question.
But this issue might be more suitable to the Illustrator or pdf Fora.

  • Enlarged bounding box around imported vector images (InDesign/Illustrator CC 2014)

Hi all, I've searched the forum for an answer but can't seem to find one. Hopefully someone can help.
Ever since my upgrade to CC2014, whenever I import a vector image from Illustrator into InDesign, the image comes in with an expanded bounding box. Unlike in the old days (i.e., the moment before I upgraded), when the bounding box would exactly enclose my image with no extra white space on any of the sides.
Sometimes the bounding box is small and sometimes it's gigantic. I cannot determine any rhyme or reason why it varies. Sometimes it's wider on the sides than on the top/bottom. Other times it's gigantic on one side but not the others. Basically, it's all over the place with no consistency that I can determine.
I find it incredibly visually distracting to have these weird-sized bounding boxes around my art, and it sucks to have to constantly resize them on every imported image.
I promise there are no guides, stray points, etc. in the Illustrator files. There is absolutely nothing "invisible yet there" that would create these expanded bounding boxes.
    Two samples are below.
Note on this first one that the bounding box is wider at the right than the left.
On this second sample, note that the bounding box is gigantic in general, but especially at the top, and it's smaller on the sides/bottom. Huh?
Any ideas? I desperately want this to stop. Just want a bounding box that exactly encloses my artwork after I import it.
Thank you for your ideas or suggestions,
    Laurie

Hi Bob, thanks very much for this info. I figured there was a checkbox hidden somewhere...
I tried all of the cropping options and although it seems like this would be a fix, it's unfortunately not fully resolving the issue.
The option that gets me closest is "crop to art." However, as you can see from the sample below, there's still a pretty large gap at the bottom, as well as a small one at the left side. (The top and right actually are cropped to the art, as requested.)
Do you have any other suggestions of things I can try? Or does anyone else have any ideas?
    Thanks again,
    Laurie

  • How do I get firefox to stop displaying blue boxes around my linked images?

I am talking about Firefox 3.5 on mac.
I was wondering if there was some way of turning off link highlighting on my website in Dreamweaver or if there is some kind of code I have to enter.
What happens is that i have images with hyperlinks and firefox puts blue boxes around them and it is ugly.
Safari works perfectly so its not me.

The answer to this question, Getting rid of blue borders around links is in the Dreamweaver FAQ.

When I zoomout on a page firefox displays a insetted box around my images.
Most notably in my webmail client, however it happens even on the forums if I zoomout.
Regualar zoom: http://world.pyther.net/files/Firefox/regular_zoom.png (The way it should look)
Zoomed Out: http://world.pyther.net/files/Firefox/zoom_out.png (Inset boxes around images)
This happens with both the offical arch build of firefox and the spookyet build. I have no idea how to fix this, it is very annoying!
    Any help would be great!
    EDIT:
After doing some more research I have narrowed this down to being an issue with xf86-video-intel. The problem does not happen if I use the xf86-video-vesa driver. I have filed a bug report at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468366

  • Photoshop channels showing up in InDesign is frustrating CS4

Can someone tell me how to stop my photoshop image with channel that is turned off in photoshop from turning on automatically in InDesign? I have several spot UV's on a catalog cover that will not go away in InDesign. I would like to print out a proof for myself without the red channels but am unable to. Any ideas? I have attached a partial screen shot of the InDesign catalog cover in question. Thanks in advance!

Thank you Rob, I guess I will have to do that.

  • Why do iPhotos I put on an SD card show up as 2 files?

Why do iPhotos (.tif, or .jpeg format)  I put on an SD card in my Mac Pro, show up as 2 files in my new EVD player? The player displays the photo alright but clicking to go to the next photo brings up a note that that file by the same name is an unsupported format, displaying nothig. After clicking next brings up the next photo followed by another unsupported format file again. Although my Mac shows only one file per photo on the card, the EVD player sees 2 for each one photo. I am triing to display the photos on the SD card in my new EVD player. I clicked hide the extension for ech photo but that made no difference. The player auto-reads the SD card as DVD after insertion. Does anybody have an idea what is going on here and how do I get rid of the "extras"

So the "double files" My EVD player sees on the SD card were created by it's Fat system?
No, the Mac creates those files when you copy files to the FAT formatted drive on the Mac.

  • Why do JPEG files show up as BMP files when I email

Can someone help me send a full size JPEG Picture to a windows user without it changing it to a BMP file? I have chosen 'Always send windows-friendly attachments' and chosen 'Full Size', but it comes across as a .BMP file instead of JPEG.
    Please help

If the person is using Yahoo on the other end they have to view your attachments by clicking on the "search shortcuts" and "my attachments". Then they will see the attachments as jpgs and have an option to download them. I am not sure what is happening because jpegs that I send by editing them in Adobe Photoshop Elements and dragging into mail attach in Yahoo normally.
Yahoo may be using bmp files to display the files when the actual file is actually a jpeg.

  • I am using Photoshop CS3 and the image looks ok on screen, but when I print the image is greenish.

I have checked with the printer's help desk and they say that this problem is not the printer, and there are no settings to change on the printer. Adobe no longer supports CS3. The immages look OK on screen, but when I print the page, the immage comes out kinda greenish, (more like, quite greenish). I don't know how to fix this problem or where to adjust any settings. Also to mention, the images are completed after a 2 day process, and this musst be done by Dec 22, 2011. Are there simple print options that will fix this problem?

You're getting into color management territory here and you need to target troubleshooting more specifically.
Basically you have a document profile that defines the colors. That profile is then converted (translated) into
    1. A monitor profile for display, and
    2. A printer/paper/ink profile for print.
If both profiles are good you'll get a reasonable match (allowing for the inherent differences between screen and paper).
If they don't match either could be wrong. So first off, is the monitor calibrated, or are you using the Windows default (sRGB), or a manufacturer provided profile?
Second, printer color management can be a bit obscure in that some manufacturers "hide" color management by doing it all under the hood and expecting sRGB input. Others, like Epson, allow you to pick the profile. This makes everything more transparent and makes troubleshooting much easier.
    EDIT: cross post.
