Could mean a software update is avaiable. Did you click on it and see what it says?

Received a mail message on my iPhone and next toit there is a red circle with a blue dot inside it. Normal messages have a solid blue dot when unread. What does the red circle with blue dot mean?

I would agree with Barney if the question had been an e-mail in the inbox but in the sent folder I still wonder why the blue dot. I also had this happen for the first time today 6/27/13. I resent both figuring it might mean the mail had not been sent properly.
No, it means unread, had you opened the mail in the sent folder the blue dot would have gone away. -
I am unable to add some songs to a playlist. There is a red circle with a line diagnonally through it that appears when I click and drag to the new playlist.
That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar or the Babylon extension that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links and buttons in that part of the screen not clickable.

Why does my music have a red circle with a square dot beside it?
On my iPad 3, in music, some of my songs have a red circle with a square dot, the songs are grayed out and I am unable to play them. Is there a new setting with ios 7? Does it no longer play mp3's?
Here's what I had to do, no thanks to the others on here who go at it like Apple, delete and restore.
No, you don't have to delete and restore. Just open a folder on your computer, call it something like iPad music, keep it open, open iTunes, select all your music, copy and paste it in the folder you just created, delete all your music from iTunes (relax, you just copied it into that folder). Select all the music in that folder, drop it back onto your playlist. Now, I renamed my playlist, because it was called untitled, originally, so if that doesn't work, rename, or delete and recreate your playlist, copy the music back over, sync, and they will play.
Worked for me, anyhow. Good luck!

Hello astro30,
Try putting the iPod into disk mode manually, then attempt a restore via iTunes.

My home movie DVD folders all have red circle with white dash and won't allow the files to be read. Is there any way around this so I can back up the DVD's on a external HD?
Drag the folders to the external drive, and if prompted, click Authenticate. You'll probably be asked for an administrator password.

I have a ipod classic, 160gb.
My ipod is showing a red circle with a red "X" in it. Itunes tells me it will prepare my ipod for recovery but does nothing, why?
My computer is a Inspiron 530S using Windows Vista, duo core. All you can do is try restoring the device. If you are unable to you'll most likely have to get the iPod repaired.

Red Circle With Square - I had the red circle with square for two weeks. I did everything listed in every forum to still end up with a smart phone that couldn't play music(iPhone 4s). After I finally reformatted my HDD and reinstalled a freshcopy of MAVERICKS from USB and wiped my phone it went away.
Then it came back. A week after I finally resolved my problem, 3 days after 7.04 release, I loaded a store bought CD and BAM!!!, all 7288 songs on my iphone no longer played, now I am back to ground zero and getting somewhat fed up. I have an Iphone 4s and i have two reocurring problems. So my first problem was after I had synced all my music most of the new songs and some old that never had a problem before had a red circle with a red square inside of it. I've gotten rid of it before but I dont even know how. I've read countless discussions and tried so many things that I dont even know what works. i figured it just fixed in time but there has to be an easier way that isnt so frustrating and annoying. So now my iphone isnt even being recognized. the apple mobile device is installed and running and has been stopped, started and restarted plenty of time. ive reset and restarted, reinstalled everything. my phone is charging, it just isnt being recognized by itunes or my pc. also in the device manager it isnt showing up. I am getting very close to smashing my iphone and switching to an android. everything is up to date and i also have tried to sync music on the first ipod touch that came out and even that isnt being recognized. I just want to get rid of the **** red circles and connect my iphone so i can sync it a million times in hopes that the red circles will just disappear. does anyone know why these red circles appear? Apple needs to get their stuff together and give us actual directions on how to fix this!!!! thank you for your help!!!
I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync! -
my iP5 will only play songs purchased formmthe itunes store.

anybody know why Itunes / iP5 will no longer play all tracks, has worked for years, only stopped with the latest itunes update.Hey Kelsieee,
First, I would try to resolve the issue with the ! in a circle that you're seeing in iTunes. There's some steps in the following article that go over what that ! usually means and how to fix it:

IOS 6.1.3 installed on iPad but no red circle with 1 on the Settings icon
Hi,
Looking at an iPad to buy on ebay and specifically want to get one with version 6.1.3 still installed. I emailed seller, they sent pic of the About screen in Settings which shows it's on this version (also, it's an iPad 4th Gen, 128GB, if that helps), but in pics of the item, displaying the icons, on the Settings icon there is NO red circle with the 1 in it. Why would this be? I've never seen this before (everyone I know still on this version, on either iPhone or iPad, has this little red circle with the 1 in it, obviously indicating the update, which none of us diehards wanna do, til we absolutely have to of course). Does this mean that this iPad is NOT upgradeable, ever? Would love some help on this, don't want to purchase this iPad until I know why that red circle ISN'T there.
Thanks!Hello mom_5_01,
The following article should be quite beneficial in your endeavor to update your iPad.
iPad: Unable to update or restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4097
You may encounter the following symptoms while updating or restoring your iPad:
iPad continually restarts but never displays the Home screen.
An update or restore did not complete and the iPad is no longer recognized in iTunes.
iPad stops responding, showing the Apple logo with no progress bar or a stopped progress bar, for over ten minutes.
If this occurs, you can place iPad into recovery mode and attempt to restore again. If iTunes displayed an alert with an error code, see this article before attempting the steps outlined here.
Cheers,
Allen
