Why is there no PC version of mac OS?

as an electronics engineer interested in software i was wondering of there is some technical reason behind there not being a PC version of Mac os x.

AceNeerav,
While we cannot speak for Apple, and in fact are forbidden to even attempt it on these forums, I think this is one question that can be answered. The fact is that the nature of Apple's business is no secret, and never has been...
Apple is not in the business of selling software, but rather hardware. This has always been the case, from day one. iTunes, and the iTunes store, exist only to increase the value represented by the purchase of an iPod. Similarly, OS X exists as part and parcel of the finest, most innovative general-purpose computers made; namely Macs.
By contrast (and the contrast will help your understanding), Microsoft is a software company. They have always been. With only a very few exceptions, Microsoft sells no hardware. If it were not for the fact that they provide software licensing to the actual manufacturers of hardware, they would not have much business at all. Also by contrast, those instances where they do manufacture hardware (Zune, XBox, etc.) are only intended to strengthen sales of their software.
Of course, these contrasts in business models create some very interesting phenomena, perhaps leading directly to your question (more to the point, that which inspires you to ask the question at all). You see, in order to make a profit at selling software, Microsoft must give customers the least, for the most money. The more development Microsoft actually puts into products, the less profit they will end up with. This results in software that that can be hyped through marketing and "gadgetry," but is otherwise uninspired (at best). At worst, it results in poor software.
Apple, on the other hand, cannot afford to develop anything but software that delivers, and delivers outstandingly. Only software that meets these standards will enhance the attractiveness of the hardware that is the heart of Apple's business. The more powerful, feature rich, innovative, and flexible OS X becomes, the more computers Apple is able to sell.
Since Apple charges only a pittance for this outstanding software, it is strictly tied through licensing (and other means) exclusively to Apple hardware. Period. Beyond this, there are absolutely no other "technical" reasons, since there is essentially no difference between an Intel Mac and any other comparably configured "PC."

  • There are no versions of Mac OS X available on your old Mac

Task: Migrate from iMac G5, OS X 10.4.11 to Intel iMac, OS X 10.5 using Setup Assistant.
I bought the Intel Mac from my son in perfect working order in a very vanilla kind of configuration. Rather than using the Migration Assistant and re-installing my old PPC applications, particularly, Microsoft Office 2004, I decided to reinstall the OS from scratch, so I could migrate everything using Setup Assistant.
When prompted by the Setup Assistant, I connected the two systems with a Firewire 400 cable, rebooted the G5 in Target Disk Mode and waited for the magic to begin. Instead, I got the error message:
"There are no versions of Mac OS X available on your old Mac"
My old iMac was not physically connected to any other Firewire device and only to the keyboard via USB.
I used “Continue” several times at this point to try again; the result was nil response after up to 15 minutes. I used “Go Back” several times here also to, reseat the firewire cable connectors, substitute a new firewire 400 cable, try an Ethernet cable, and reboot my old iMac in target mode both by a cold start with the “T” key depressed and by restarting by using “System Preferences/Startup Disk/Restart/Target Disk Mode.” After trying to read the disk on my old IMac G5, my Intel iMac gave me this same error message every time.
When I reboot my old iMac, the OS is obviously there, so I cannot think of what is preventing the connection. I’ve been out on the web and found nothing that comes up in response to the error message, except one post at http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=691645 for a user trying to use the Migration Assistant. His solution of mounting the old iMac as an external drive isn’t available in Setup Assistant, whose troubleshooting options at this point of the install are zip. I found nothing helpful chasing some hints at "possible firmware issues."
Man! What an unexpected, unpleasant surprise. Suggestions are welcome.
    Roy

Of significance did your G5's drive mount on your new computer's Desktop when you connected them and booted the G5 into TDM? If it does then skip using Setup Assistant. I would first give Migration Assistant (on the new computer) a try. Or you can use common backup software to "backup" what you want from the old computer to the new one over the Firewire link.
If you don't have other backup software to use then you can use Carbon Copy Cloner - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate - which is freely available. SuperDuper! is also a good choice if you already have a purchased copy. See the following for other options:

  • Why are there so few games for Mac OS X?

Yes, I do know the answer, because everybody writes software for Windows.
But aren't we at a point where times are changing? Many people exchange their PC's for a Mac nowadays, and the number of Linux (which is basically the same under the hood) is rapidly growing too. Those people like to play games too, don't they?
Does anyone see some light in the distance for companies porting their games to the Mac too?

Agreed. You have to remember everything is drive by economics in our capitalistic society so games are written for the OS that has largest market penetration and most likely to return huge profit and currently that is Windows. That is also why one of the most famous game programmers, John Carmack, just recently rewrote some of his games for iPhone/ipod touch and made quite a nice profit from his own account.
"Carmack said that there was a lot of "hand wringing" initially over the idea of spending the company's own money (there was no publisher to help fund development) on making games for the iPhone. Doom Resurrection, when it hit, was probably the most expensive game to develop for the iPhone, Carmack says.
"It did really well for us," he said. "It was Wolfenstein Classic that made the argument for iPhone development for me. We made quite a bit of money off of that."

That is not to say that Mac's can't be used as game machines since Apple actually has a webpage dedicated exactly to this you can check out:
    http://www.apple.com/games/hardware/
So in a nutshell to answer the OP question the reason you see fewer games on mac's is because it's not profitable. As you can see if there is no technical limitations writing games like Doom3 for iphone there is none for the mac.
I know I've personally not bought a macosx game since I also have a pc and use that for games so I'm not helping the business case for more games for mac. Vote with your pocket and go out and buy more mac only games if you want to see more for the mac.

  • As Thunderbird allready works on Liunux why is there no Android version

Android is basically a version of lnux with google modifications and there is already a Thunderbird which works with Linux. Arn't you missing out by not creating a version of thunderbird for Android. You have done so with Firefox. Most users of Thunderbird would prefer to stick with the same e-mail client regardless of whether we are on our PC or our tablet or our phone.

The development of Thunderbird has been reduced alot which is why the desktop Releases have since changed to ESR fashion of Releases and not still be like Firefox Releases on desktop.
There has been a mobile version of Firefox for Android since Firefox 4.0 however there has not been any development on a Thunderbird version yet and likely will not be any time soon due to the reduced Thunderbird development.

  • Why is there a Linux version of Adobe Creative Suite?

If you can be based on Ubuntu or RedHat. I'm using Adobe CS since from the beginning of the CS and I think before, I still do not understand Why there is no CS in linux?. I do not know who to address the question but would like to have an answer because there are so many designers, artists, architects and others. They would be willing to buy Adobe CS on Linux. And not to mention that many also do not want to buy Apple and much less Windows.
    Thanks

I wish there was an answer from Adobe on this post. I realize this might not be completely a simple thing, but I think I am probably one of many that would happily move to a linux platform if Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom were available for it. Don't get me wrong I've run stable machines on both Windows Vista and Windows 7, and have not had virus problems. I'd go to Linux for the fact that it will use the hardware I have much better than Windows does. That makes a big difference when running large batches of images in Lightroom or dealing with large files in Photoshop. I don't want to move to a Mac because I'm not interested in the prices or the closed (captive audience) platform.
There are a lot of people out there who think the freebie alternatives will draw Photoshop users away, but the fact of the matter is that most Photoshop users are willing to pay good money for an application they can depend on. And let's face it, we all want to keep our plugins too, so Nik Software and the whole lot of them would have to follow suit. Either way, for many of us Windows users out there, moving to a stable Linux platform would be the better choice..ONLY if we could bring our most critical apps with us!

  • Why is there no English version of the book Crux by Ramez Naam?

The book was originally written in English.  There are icons for the English, Polish and German language versions of the book,  However, the icon for the English book is actually the polish language book.  The icons for the Polish and German versions of the book point correctly.  Only the English icon seems to be messed up.

Nobody in these forums will have the answer for you.  Try contacting  the publisher of the book about the problem.  You might want to consider getting it from another store (like Amazon, Nook, Kobo, Google, Sony), which also has a free ereader app.

  • Why is there no student version of Lightroom 6 available?

I planned to stop my CC photography plan, because I can't afford it anymore and I don't really need Photoshop but Lightroom, since Lightroom has panoramas and HDR now available. But now there is no Students & Teachers Edition available anymore and I have to pay the full price, which I also can't afford. What can Adobe do to keep me as a paying costumer?

Well, one thought is Adobe is offering upgrade pricing from older Student editions.  So if you happened to have ever purchased a standalone copy of LR1-LR5, then you could get the lower upgrade price for LR6.

  • V4 replaced my v3.6 then would not work on Mac X 10.4.11 why was there no warning, Now I've lost all my bookmarks

I did not get a warning that v4 would not run on Mac X v 10.4.11
As a result when I replaced my v3.6 with v4 it would not boot up and I got an error message that it would not run on my system.
Now I have lost all my book marks and references that were on v3.6
Foxfire should have put a warning that it was not a universal replacement for v4 and would crash most Mac X v10 systems.
    Why was there no warning???

    Thanks for the help.
I grabbed an older version of Foxfire 3.5.17 off a friends computer and it booted up great. It ever retrieved all my old bookmarks that I thought were lost.
Yes, you are correct. My Motorola Mac X with system 11.4 will not run the new Foxfire 4.0.
I only wish Foxfire would put a warning on the system requirements for 4.0.
They also need to provide a much better library of downloads for older versions of Foxfire, with an easy link on the Foxfire.com opening page.
    Thanks again for your assistance.

    Thanks

Firefox '''4 '''versions '''and later do not run on a PowerPC Mac''' and require at least OS X 10.5 and an '''Intel Mac'''.
The latest''' supported''' version for your os is '''3.6.26''' , your are fully updated.
