Why is there no "SVG" format option in "Save for WEB" in CC? There IS in CS5!

Another simple question.

It has been removed from the Save for Web dialog, as that is for screen image optimisation. You now create SVG by saving to that format - look at the save dialog and from the format/files of type menu you can choose SVG from there.

  • Looping options in Save for Web - Animated GIF

I find this one rather annoying, in the latest verison of Adobe Photoshop CS6 when creating an animated GIF via the Save for Web dialog box; there is a looping option section that allows your animation to loop forever, or once...
In the previous version, it would remember which setting you selected for subsequent saves.  In this new version, it forgets it and always defaults to ONCE; where I want FOREVER... making me forget to check it sometimes, when I'm working fast; and create animations that stop after one loop...
    Anyone else experience this annoyance?
    -Joe

Seems like people shouldn't have to re-request features that were already features in the last version.
Either Adobe took the "stickyness" of that setting out on purpose, in which case I'd expect nothing more will be done, or they left it out accidentally with the restructuring of the Timeline window, in which case it would be a bug, no?
But Christoph is right in either case - you can help ensure it is seen by posting it on the http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/ site.

  • Quick Trim option in Save for Web & Devices

    Hi,
a feature to do a quick Trim in Save for Web & Devices dialogue would be great, especially if it was enabled with a checkbox, then when you enable it, it activates a dialogue with the three options that already exist in Trim option (Transparent pixels, Top left color, Bottom right color).
Let me know what you think.

I need to figure out why my trim option is always grayed out. It's saved in PSD format, yet the option to trim the transparent pixels is grayed out. why is that? what am I doing wrong? I must have to change something.
    Thanks in advance, Linda

  • Preview options in the "save for web" dialog

According to the reference, the previews in the "save for web" dialog are there only for showing how the image can be seen on various platforms with different gamma values.
But, if we open a non-sRGB image (ProPhoto for example) by the "save for web" option, the preview options (other than the "use document profile) in the "save for web" dialog assign sRGB color space to the image even when the "convert to sRGB" option is unchecked ... this causes unrealistic, dull previews for the image.
What is the reason behind that PS assigns sRGB to the image previews if we uncheck "convert to sRGB" option?

Basically, how animation works with GIF and Save for Web in PSE is that each layer in your document is a frame of animation. So you see one layer, then the next, and so on. You should not see the contents of the last frame/layer when looking at the current/next frame of the animation.
Could you post a screen shot of your layers panel and give us a link to the GIF that is coming out of Save for Web?

  • Unable to open PNG, save for web, and missing half of the format options under save as.

    Using Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit with SP1.
When using Photoshop CC 64-Bit, i am unable to save for web, open PNG, or save as for about half the format options. I don't have any additional plugins installed, nor have I messed with the plugins folder.
When trying to open PNG files it says: Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document.
Photoshop CC 32-Bit works without any of these issues. I'll be switching to 32-Bit until this is resolved. Hoping I don't have to uninstall/reinstall (Install files are huge and take forever to download and I don't know how to save them to the hard drive with CC, thanks).
    Chris

Sounds like you are missing some of the required plugins - possibly an updater failed, or someone moved/deleted the wrong directory.
Yes, you'll need to reinstall to restore the missing plugins.

  • How do I save an SVG via save for web?

I can't save for web to SVG format from illustrator CS6. The option isn't in the format list of the save for web dialogue; I only have gif, jpeg, png-8 and png-24. I am sure it used to be there, so where has it gone?
Have I got to do something in the process of setting up a new document?
    TIA.

Has it been removed from the 'Save for web' then?

  • Is save for web in JPEG format lossless when quality is 100%?

I am trying to figure out if I can reduce optimised JPEG sizes further than what Photoshop can offer.
My boss has recently questioned whether the file sizes can be reduced using lossless JPEG's further than the sace for web function in photoshop.
From what I can make of it, lossy is the option on GIF files, and therefore I am assuming that the optimisation is lossless for a JPEG at 100 percent quality and lossy when the quality is reduced?
I just want to clarify that I am saving images for the web at the smallest size I can without losing too much quality.
All the images I save are 450px wide @ 75 dpi, but vary in length from 800px high to 1500px high, but have to be saved under 100kb.
Can anyone clarify the lossless and lossy in JPEG format in save for web?
    Thanks
    Ray

As c. says above, JPEG is a lossy compression - there is no lossless JPEG.
PNG 24bit offers lossless compression, that is it performs compression analogous to a zip archive, whereas JPEG works by (in extremely lay terms) building a new image that resembles the original.
GIF and PNG exports let you reduce the number of colours to get better compression - there are fewer pixel differences to compress at 8bit colour depth. Hence a 16 colour PNG will have a vastly smaller file size than a 24bit PNG, and depending on the image may be much smaller than a similar quality JPEG.
Depending on how far off your 100KB ceiling you are, you may be able to improve your file exports by cleaning up the source image - reduce noise and if possible explore exporting as 8bit pngs with fewer colours - avoid using diffusion or noise in the export options. Find the balance between acceptable file size and image quality... photographs tend to be the hardest thing to compress because there's so much detail data, especially in darker (low light) areas.

  • Why does the Fireworks save for web function give better results than in Photoshop?

Having used the trial version of Fireworks, I have noticed that the save for web function gives greater compression and image quality than saving for web in Photoshop. Why is this?
As Adobe are not continuing in developing Fireworks, does anyone know if will they will improve the save for web function in Photoshop to match the Fireworks version?
Are there any third party companies who anyone can recommend who will process large volumes of images for web?
    Thanks

One of my favourite topics ;-P
First, the save for web function in Photoshop has not seen any real updates in a long time. In Fireworks PNG export allows for fully transparent optimized files with indexed 256 or less colours, which is impossible in the save for web function in Photohop. It is unsupported.
This is one of the reasons why Fireworks does a much better job than Photoshop. Another reason is that Photoshop adds meta junk in its exported files, and this also increases the file size (and should be removed, because there are also a number of fields which include information about your setup).
One other caveat is that Photoshop's save for web functions neither allows for a choice in chroma subsampling, and instead decides automatically below a certain quality threshold to degrade the colour sharpness quality. The user has no control over this. (Fireworks also limits the user this way.)
One thing to be careful of: FW's jpg quality setting, and PS's quality settings are very different - a 50 in Photoshop is not the same 50 setting in Fireworks.
For jpg optimization I generally use RIOT (free): http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/
(When you install, be careful NOT to install the extra junkware!)
Fireworks cannot change the chroma subsampling to 4:2:0, which does degrade the quality a bit compared to RIOT and Photoshop in my experience. Photoshop adds useless meta information, even if the user tells it not to do that. RIOT allows you to remove that information, saving 6k. RIOT also offers an automatic mode that optimizes existing jpg images without degrading the quality further, and often saves 10k or more, depending on the images.
Interestingly enough, in my tests exported Fireworks jpg images are always reduced in file size by RIOT, due to FW's jpg export limitations, without any image degradation.
In my tests FW's jpg quality versus file size turns out to be the worst of all three. RIOT generally wins, or is at least on par with Photoshop.
As for PNG export, Photoshop's save for web function is quite abysmal. No 256 colour full transparency export is possible, while Fireworks does support this.
Having said that, there is a free alternative that leaves both Photoshop AND Fireworks in the dust: Color Quantizer. http://x128.ho.ua/color-quantizer.html
CQ is an amazing little tool: with it anyone can create PNG files with full transparency and reduced to ANY number of colours! It means that a 512 colour PNG with full transparency is now very easy to do. On top of that, for more difficult images a simple quality mask brush tool allows the user to control and retain even small colour details in a PNG, while reducing the file size to an absolute minimum.
CQ is one of the best kept secrets of a Web Developer's toolkit. And it is free!
Both RIOT and Color Quantizer have a built-in batch mode. Both are available for WIndows. Not for Mac. If you are on a Mac, try imageOptim. Not nearly as good as RIOT and CQ, but quite passable.
PS to be fair, the newest versions of Photoshop do allow for export of 8bit PNGs with full transparency through the use of its Generator functionality. But again, it cannot compete with CQ. And as far as I am aware, Generator cannot be used in Photoshop's batch processing (which, btw, is very slow! For simpler daily image processing tasks I have to do in batches, I prefer IrfanView, which is lightning fast! IrfanView).

  • Why can't I save for web in a specific folder using actions?

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to save in a specific folder desitnations when using Actions and Saving For Web with CS6 PS for Windows. It ALWAYS defaults to last folder used. I am not Batch Processing, just using Actions on one image at a time. I have 3 of these actions. Action one is for "Thumbnail" folder, Action two is for "Full" folder, and Action three is for "Large" folder. All these actions are doing is saving for web into these folders (path displays correctly in Action script). HOWEVER after I successfully  use Action one and save into the Thumbnail folder and move on to Action 2, it wants to save back into Thumbnail AND NOT into Full folder. In short I now have 3 actions saving to the same folder even though my recording designated 3 different locations. HELP!

Ok...I switched to my home Mac and was having similar issues with the toggle Save for Web window on. Saving to same folder even in Mac OS. Tried your way by keeping toggle off and it worked, saving diff images to different folders. I guess I have to figure a work around for the naming conventions however. My original is a 5 digit number lets say 11111.jpg. When I duplicate / use a sizing action I get two additional photos named 11111 copy.jpg.  That is why I kept toggle window on in CS3 so I could simply paste the 11111 name back in the dialogue window so I'd have three diff size photos in three diff folders named 11111.jpg.
These steps might seem super basic but I do these steps for a website all day everyday three months straight without issue and I guess I have to adjust. I usually use orignal photos and have to rename.  Is there a way to Duplicate images as the same 11111.jpg instead of 11111 copy.jpg? That way I can just rename the photo at the beginning (red_flower_000ddafjdflj to 11111.jpg) and not use toggle (or rename at all).

  • Save for web option greyed out?

    hello.
i'm not too sure but after the last one/two updates from the cc, i have been unable to click on the save for web option as it is greyed out. i've read this (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5242626#5242626). i am slightly blurry on the solution being said there. however, i have fixed around the permissions (as said in the solution) but again, i'm not very sure if i have done anything significantly right because i still can't save anything for web (nor can i open .gif).
this is a screetshot of my user/library/preferences --> get info as well as the adobe save for web prefs. i've added 'admin' into the list and i've made it read & write. user had been read & write all along.
i have no idea what's the issue still. i'm using a mac on mountain lion.

Thanks! That was it. I am a bit rusty with PS.

  • Save for web as PNG-24 with slices is saving in JPEG format!

    Hello all.
I'm using Photoshop Extended CS6 13.0.1 x64 and when I save for web as PNG-24, all the slices from the project, the final result are JPEG format pictures. I tried the same but exporting as GIF and it keeps saving as JPEG. I tried Save As instead of Save for Web and it works, but this way I'm not saving by slice and not for web.
    Any idea why this happens?

Found the solution. I had to select all the slices.

  • Save For Web & Devices GIF Preset options

In PS CS3, when saving for Web & Devices as a GIF, there's the default Preset of "[Unnamed]" with various drop down options such as GIF 128 Dithered, GIF 128 No Dither, 64, 32, GIF Restrictive, etc. I'm looking for the highest quality GIF. What should I use? Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback. I am using the images on a website that are somewhat larger than thumbnail size so it's not real critical. I know that generally GIFs are preferable for logos and text and JPGs for photo like images. These are a mix of art images and text. I don't know much about PNG though I notice in the GIF Save for Web & Devices drop down there are also options for PNG-24 and PNG-8 128 Dithered.
Bottom line, I'd like to know which is the best quality GIF save option of these and then I can decide between that and a JPG.

  • Is the PNG generated by the "Save As" option the same as the png-24 from the "Save for Web" option?

It would speed up my workflow if I could go through the save for web option rather than the save as. Are these files the same?

No, SaveAs includes more metadata, while SaveForWeb makes the metadata optional.
