Why is there only one Operating Concern defined in GBI?

Hi all,
I have the following question: when looking at the CO structure of the GBI case study, why is there only one, global operating concern defined? According to the definition of an OC, it is the level whereupon profitability analysis is performed. So why is in GBI that has two very distinct business areas not at least two OCs defined (one per business area), if not more (per product)?
As a follow-on, what is then the relation between OC and Controlling Area? I am looking for a plain English explanation that I can also use for teaching purposes.
Thank you in advance for reading!
Regards,
Gerhard

Hi Gerhard,
I hope my reply is not too late.
I agree with you.  Profitability analysis is typically done at a detailed level - by market segments, which may be defined by geographical segments, customer groupings, product groupings, salesforce grouping, etc.  CO-PA does support profitability analysis at such detailed levels.
After defining an operating concern and activating it, the system generates a series of database tables for the operating concern.  I took a screenshot of the (partial) structure of the "master" table for the global GBI operating concern, GL00, from the GBI 2.2 system I am using, below:
As you can see, with such a table structure, CO-PA is capable of capturing profitability information at a very detailed level for reporting and analysis.
You may also notice that operating concern is not a field in the table.  The reason is, the entire table (as well as its related tables in the same series) is used only for operating concern GL00.  Its name is even hard-coded in the last 4 characters of the names of these tables.  When CO-PA reports are executed in SAP ECC, they retrieve data from only one series of tables, i.e., only data of only one operating concern can be reported.
Back to your question: Why is there only one operating concern and not two?  The wisdom of defining one global operating concern is that profitability data of both controlling areas (Europe and North America) will be updated into the same series of database tables and reported together.  If there had been two separate operating concerns for the two controlling areas, there would have been two series of database tables, making profitability analysis across the two areas difficult, if not impossible.
Let me know if you need further clarifications.

  • Why is there only one automated audio fader at head and none at tail of some audio clips?

When I select "Show audio animation," top left of an audio clip, on some sections I have two knobs... one at the head for fade in, and one at the tail for fade out. Why is there only one on some of the audio clips and not both? I've set up the clips the same, regarding audio animation, and some have faders at head, but not tail. How do I make another fader at the tail of a clip? Or why doesn't it automatically behave like the other audio clips that DO have two faders? I don't know what I'm doing to make them act differently.
    Thanks,

    Tom,
Thanks for reply. I'm attaching screen shots. For some reason my pointer didn't show up with a normal screen grab. Don't understand. Anyway, several versions are attached. There isn't one hidden on the right beyond the frame that pops out when I put my pointer there (or any tool). Strange.

  • Why is there only one phone available? Where can I get it?

I arrived at the main site for Firefox by typing www.getfirefox.com in the address bar of my Firefox browser, because I wanted to see if I have the latest version of Firefox. I saw the message that says, "Congratulations, you have the latest version!" Then I saw there is a Firefox OS, so I clicked on that. I eventually followed the link to get a Firefox OS phone, but to no avail. The eBay listing is expired. Yay!
Finally I got to the page that lists, with pictures, the various Firefox OS phones. Only one says it is available, and when I click on that one, to try to get it, I get to a similar page at eBay, where it says the listing has expired. Wow. This doesn't give me a lot of confidence in the security of Firefox. I wonder why it told me that I have the latest version of the Firefox browser installed, when mine is 31.0 and the latest is 33.0.1, and if there is only one Firefox OS device available, and the link on the Firefox site takes me to an expired eBay listing, I don't think I'll be trying to get a Firefox OS device any time soon.
Does anyone here have any suggestions for me?

    Hi Scottelly,
You can update the Firefox browser in your computer by following these steps:
    * [[Update Firefox to the latest version]]
Regarding Firefox OS, it's a mobile operating system that is available on phones around the world. Here are all the devices currently available (please keep in mind that some of these devices are only available in some countries):
    * [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/os/devices/ Firefox OS devices]
There is also the Flame Reference Device available for purchase, which is recommended for developers wishing to create applications or develop for Firefox OS:
    * [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Developer_phone_guide/Flame Firefox OS Flame Reference Device]
If you have issues finding a phone, or with a link pointing to an expired Ebay listing, please let us know so that we can investigate.
I hope you find this information useful. Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Why is there only one kernel by default?

i just noticed this when trying out ubuntu.  every time you upgrade or install a new kernel, they create a completely new initrd image, config file, and kernel image, and store them in /boot.  so...in the event that a new kernel screws up, you can always roll back to an older kernel.
why doesn't arch do something like this?

Moo-Crumpus wrote:McQueen, I can't follow your arguments. If managing your own system had such a weight, then udev and hotplug, initrd and one kernel for all, hardwaredetection and hwd would break the rule, wouldn't it.
That's untrue.  Doing something automatically does not imply that it removes control from a user.  If it did, then there would be no rc.d scripts, you would have to put everything in rc.local.  Hardware detection is the same - you have the option of not using it.
There is not a single app you can name that does not do something automatically.  How would you like it if firefox failed on first start with "no profile directory, please create it first" or if your IDE controller modules failed saying "hey, I found some drives, but you didn't specify names for them when loading me - too bad, failing....".

  • Why is there only one forum category called Apple TV under Apple TV Forum?

I don't know how long this category existed, but isn't it strange that we have a product forum and sub-category, both the same name? Unless Apple is planning to come out with a new Apple TV and so the current forum will address the old Apple TV and there will be a new Apple TV Platform 2.0 category. Apple announced that they are coming out with new product releases today during their quarterly results today and will it contain a new version of Apple TV as well? With support for 30fps and 1080p videos?

    I have a simple question.
I just bought the Apple TV ~ 160 gig.
I want to store all my movies there (mp4)
Is it possible to keep them stored in Apple TV or do i need to keep them in my computer harddrive too?
If so what is the difference between 40 gig and 160 gig if i cannot store anything there?
    Cheers ^^

  • Why we have only one log writer in oracle

Why we have only one log writer in oracle while we have more than one DB writer and archiver in oracle.

High DML allows multiple log writer processes as well by spawning multiple log writer processes.
No - there is only one log writer process per instance.
Don't confuse the function of I/O slaves with the function of the log writer.

  • More than one country assign to one operating concern

    Dear Experts,
I have created one controlling area for dubai entity and one operating concern for dubai.
now i am planning for country roll out so i have 10 countries for roll-out and all countries head office belong to dubai.
so i am planning to maintain USD as controlling area currency as well as operating concern currency along with company code currency tick in operating concern and assign all other countries to dubai operating concern and dubai controlling area.
Becoz management want to see reporting in USD as well as company code currency.
but reporting in CO comes under controlling area currency and most of the CO transaction reflects in controlling area currency like assessment and allocation where system takes controlling area currency by default .
any other point i am missing? and also how to see all CO reports in company code currency and how to do assessment in company code currency as well.?
your help will be highly appreciated.
    regards
    RK

    Hi
All CO reports are visible in both currencies i.e. Contr area and Comp Code currency.. Just select company code currency in RPC0 for Cost centers and RPO0 for Order related reports
After executing Allocation, you can use the menu options and choose a layout for Displaying in OBJECT CURRENCY which means Comp Code currency
While calculating activity prices, you need to click on the settings Tab and tick the check box "Iterate amounts independently"
You can adopt single contr area provided all companies have same Fiscal Year and Chart of Accounts...
If any of the company has a different FYV, its better to have a separate contr area for them. Though using new GL you can have single contr area in that case also - My personal exp says its better to have separtae in that case

Can you find the "Comments" field into the Metadata? Because I don't find it and when I write something in the box Aperture tells me that the box is "unlink" from the metadata...

  • Why I see ONLY one db on my node ?

    I have a PC (NT node) with 1 oracle server 8.17 , on the server I have 2 databases (db1 , db2).
With OEM I see the node ... but ONLY db1 !!!
Suggestion ? (off course I refresh node and db2 works ok)

In the iPod's About menu, the disk size is reported as slightly less than the technical specifications, this is normal for all drives. The same is true if you look at the size reported for your own computer hard drive. My 300 GB hard drive is reported as 279.36 for instance. There is also a proportion of the space on your iPod taken up by the operating software but the difference is mostly down to how the size is measured by the manufacturers.
Why the difference? Most hard disk manufacturers measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 million bytes (1000 * 1000). A 4 GB disk, therefore, is one that holds 4 billion bytes. Computers, including Windows computers, Macintosh computers and iPod, measure disk size this way: 1 MB = 1 048 576 bytes (1024 * 1024). The difference in these two calculations is what causes the drive to appear as 3.7 GB on a computer, but actually be a 4 billion byte disk.
You can read the whole article here: How much stuff will fit on my iPod?

  • Why is there only read(byte[]) & not read(int[])

I'm trying to read large raw images using the RandomAccessFile. Different images are of different types, some are uInt8, some are int8, some are int16, uInt16, float, etc. The only way I know to read them fast enough is by reading an array of bytes, and then putting the bits together into a new array of the desired type, e.g. shifting and adding to the bytes.
I'm sure there's a clever way to read different types really fast... How?

Well... Is there any possabilities to create a new
int[] array that is "pointing" at the same memory
allocation as the byte[], just as you can do in C or
    other languages with pointers?
    Nope, Java is type safe.
It would be easy if I could make the compiler
interpret the byte[] as an int[]... Suggestions?
    Create a java.io.DataInputStream to read from a java.io.ByteArrayInputStream that reads from your byte[] is one option:ByteArrayInputStream byteStream = ByteArrayInputStream(anArrayOfBytes);
    DataInputStream integerStream = new DataInputStream(byteStream);
    int firstInt = integerStream.readInt();
...If you need random access to an int array maybe you need to create the array first and the read ints to it...
