Why is this drop shadow being cropped? IDCS4ME WinXPSP3

Hi,
I cannot figure out why this drop shadow is getting cropped.
Attached is a CS4 file with an embedded graphic. A drop shadow is applied. When this file is exported to PDF ("press quality"), the drop shadow is getting cropped, as you will see on the PDF attached. Why oh why?
All help welcomed.
Thanks,
Ariel

Thank  you all. It is weird. I'm still not sure if it's a corrupt Photoshop file or an InDesign bug, or a user error?
Anyway, adding spread did help, but at the cost of slightly changing the quality of the shadow. I couldn't get a vector mask to help (I just added a "show all" mask). But cropping the top-right corner as Peter Spier suggested works and is the least invasive treatment.
I've got 3 more similar characters on the original page, all created by the same person with the same workflow, and none of them display this problem.
Thanks again,
Ariel

  • Using InDesign CS6, why does a drop shadow applied to a text box, cause a photo on the same page to

I thought it was just a screen appearance so I made a pdf and the photo is lighter here too.  I've never had this issue with CS5.5 or earlier.  Drop shadows were able to be applied to one object without affecting others on the page. Is it a bug? Is there a setting I'm missing?  Thanks!

Overprint preview didn't stop the lightening of the photo.
A google search turned up the suggestion to change the transparency blend space to RGB, which worked in InDesign.  When I make the pdf (no color conversion) it looks ok. But when turning on Output Preview in Acrobat, the photo lightens again.  Weird and frustrating - I'm not sure what the final output will look like.
Is Transparency Flattener set at High res an option?
    I appreciate your help!

We added a Solar System Scope feature to our website and it views fine within the DreamWeaver software, however, when viewed "live" the navigation bar is pushed below the Scope. Hope you can help me out. If there is no solution, I may try to add a "Home" button at the top (if possible) and hope that works.
Here is the link to take a look, scroll down to see the navigation bar placement. Thanks for your help!

  • How is this type of drop shadow achieved in Illustrator?

This drop shadow was made in another program. I want to know how to achieve it in Illustrator.
I also want the grey area to be solid shapes. Not a blend.
    Any insight is much appreciated.

You are referring to it as a drop shadow when it is is actually type represented as a dimensional form.
So it either has to be faked or you have to give it a very slight aampount of rotation either horizontally or verticlly or both.

  • CS3: Drop shadow always on

I can never open the Transparency dialog without the drop shadow being on by default. If I select an object with no drop shadow applied and then open the Transparency dialog, the drop shadow suddenly applies. I've set the drop shadow to off with no document open but it still insists on always being there.
The gradient feather option behaves the same way although it is not quite as persistent as the drop shadow.
This is becoming extremely annoying to the point where I'm beginning to cringe if I need to use transparency.
    iMac G5, OS 10.5.5

I think I figured out what was going on. I have a custom key command set up to bring up the Transparency menu. However; the key command was applied to the Drop Shadow specifically and not to the Transparency dialog box. This is why the Drop Shadow was on every time the Transparency dialog appeared.
I've reset my keyboard command to Transparency and not the Drop Shadow. Now when I hit my command I get a clean Transparency dialog with nothing already on. Much better.

  • Drop Shadow Disappears at End of Slide?

    Hi all,
I know I've got something configured wrong because some of my drop shadows do hang around until the end of the slide.
Here's the scoop: I've got an text caption and I applied a drop shadow to it in CP5 Mac. In the effect panel, the shadow is on the stage with the caption at all times. It definitely goes to the end of the slide. Also, the text caption is on the slide until the end of the slide (set to display for rest of slide). The slide transition on the panel is a 1 second fade-in only effect.
Why does my drop shadow fade out before my slide goes away?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Thanks for getting involved, Mr TD.
Here are the answers to your questions:
    - Which caption do you use (e.g. BlueHalo)?
This is a custom text caption I created. It's obviously been placed in the
correct directory and works fine - just like the Adobe captions.
    - is this the only effect you are using?
    On this particular object, yes.
    - any kind of widget you are using?
    No.
    - How long is the text staying on stage?
    About 15 seconds.
    - Does it start from the beginning of the slide?
The text caption fades in after a few seconds. All is well until the end
    of the slide.
    - Is it your default caption style?
    No.
    - Settings of the font?
Verdana 18 and 14 point in the caption.
    - Is Timing "rest of Slide"?
    Timing is rest of slide.
Does this information suggest anything to you?

  • Rendering Drop Shadows and Text

You know... for a system that can play 16 video streams in HD and dynamically adjusts the playback quality to handle all of that to play in real time......
why does a drop shadow and crawling text require a render on 2 streams of SD video?
I'm editing plain NTSC 29.97 DV footage..... my sequence settings are the same as my clips... all footage plays fine and generates a green preview bar for when I start getting complicated..... but when i add a drop shadow....... no matter what.... no matter how many streams are on... (even if it's only one) red render required to play.
It just seems odd that it can handle so much more information than what a drop shadow seems to generate..... the same happens with scrolling or crawling text. Is there anyway to get this in a preview..... so i don't have to spend 4 minutes rendering something that might not even work the way I want it to in the first place?
    FCP 5.1.3

give it a couple more months
the drop shadow will be fine once the processing is offloaded to the GPU

  • Help, Drop Shadow filter with strange glares in CS4

    Hi,
I've made a symbol for a logo design in Ai CS4 in wich I applyed some Drop Shadows to some elements (white arrows).
The problem is, when I enlarge the symbol (approximately 110 x110 mm), strange glares/"ghosts" appear around the elements that have the Drop Shadow applied to.
There are no Pantones in this, just CMYK colors.
    See the image please: http://www.grabup.com/uploads/01773c95e72416002699e3d3e4800428.png
(the strange glares/ghosts are the ones pointed by the red arrows, the Drop Shadow dialog box, corresponds to the red highlighted white arrow on the left with the blue drop shadow.)
When I turn to Outline mode there are no vector paths there, so it only shows this glares/ghosts in normal/preview mode.
This only happens when I enlarge this elements, and the Blur (in the drop shadow) begins to have a large number applied to it (example: blur: 9 mm).whn I Rasterize or Expand Appearance the elements with this drop shadows, the rasterized image maintains the strange glares/ghosts.
    The glare/ghosts completely disappear when:
    - I reduce the size of the logo/symbol;
    - In the Drop Shadow dialog box: Instead of the Color, I choose Darkness (but I need this to have a blue color in shadows not grey/black).
    - In the Drop Shadow dialog box: I reduce the size of the Drop Shadow Blur (with 5mm or less of Blur, the glare/ghosts vanish)
    Is this a Illustrator bug?
The only solution for this is to reduce the amount of Blur aplyed to the drop shadows elements?
If so, what happens when I have to enlarge this logo to a bigger size, say... an Outdoor?
    thank you!
    (sorry for my english)

    Hi Bob,
Thanks for your reply (very prompt!)
Yes I read that article and thankfully was already exporting using Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) so that wasn't an issue.
So now I'm waiting on the printer's reply as I've emailed him a link to that article!

  • How do I get a drop shadow in Illustrator CS2

Hi all, I'm using Illustrator CS2 on a Mac. I want the following drop shadow effect (which apparently was created on Corel Draw)
    but I'm getting is this...
which is a slightly cloudy. I took a darker color, blurred it and placed it on top! I can't place it below the checked background because that is already a cut out placed on this grid...
    Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Shub

Hi, Thanks you all for the sugestions, I've been trying the stuff you asked me to...my problem is actually something ele. Sorry, It's my fault, I didn't explain myself clearly...if you could please help me out with this...
I'm actually trying to recreate this world map which was done in Corel on Illustrator. The original looks like this...
And what I've got is this...
So he's managed to get this drop shadow for the continents which I'm doing from the top! I'll tell you the what I've done...
Firstl, it would've been really easy if I could just do a clipping mask of the grid, but since it is a very complicated image, the program (CS2) won't allow me to...!
So what i've done is get a light blue rectangle on the 1st layer, then the grid on it, then the blue gradient which has the world map hollowed out(using pathfinder). Which was all fine and fairly uncomplicated till I tried to get a shadow for all the continents, then I had to put it on top, and there is no clear outline to the map because of the blur I've given the shadow!!
Could you help me get this shadow on the same thing or maybe suggest another entirely how I can arrive at the top image in Illustrator? Thanks so much...
    Regards
    Shub

  • SDK:  Changing drop shadow effect properties

I have a text object that I've done Effect->Stylize->Drop Shadow... on.
Using the COM SDK for Illustrator CS6, as an Illustrator.TextFrame object, how can I access the properties of this drop shadow effect?

    Hello again
    Ahhh, okay. Gotcha!
The thing is, there is no drop shadow effect to configure. If there is such an effect, it's something that is simply part of the Text Animation that has been selected.
I think the icon is a bit misleading and is simply intended convey it's not just regular text. I don't believe the intent was to convey there is a drop-shadow associated with a Text Animation. There isn't. At least not without it having been programmed as part of the animation.
Does this help you answer the question? Are you actually seeing there is a drop-shadow effect during playback that you don't like or want? If so, you will likely need to choose a different Text Animation.
    Cheers... Rick

  • PP CS6 Title Safe Motion Automatic Drop Shadow - WHY and how do I turn it off?

    Hello all.
I'm new to Premiere (one week) after years on Avid. So go easy on me.
I've created a title that I've added some motion to (basic stuff, just moved the position/added some directional blur so that the camera pan matches the title movement). The moment the edge of the title frame enters the screen a drop shadow appears - but only if there's motion (see attached picture).
At first I thought it wouldn't show up on export- but it did. I'm sure it was placed there by programmers as some kind of marker, or edge warning, but why in the world can't I find a place to shut it off? I tried everything, watched about 2 hours worth of adobe TV, youtube, vimeo tutorials, read forums, the software's help section, etc. Had a chat conversation with an adobe rep in India and he suggested I animate using title crawl - in the end he didn't know how to turn the shadow off. I could always go to AE, but why should I have to do this for something so basic? Is there ANY way to shut this feature off (considering how customizable everything that adobe makes tends to be)? Or do I have to bite the bullet and create a Matte to over the shadow (silly considering it wasn't my creative choice).
PS: If I stack video on top of video the same shadow does not appear, even if I add motion to it - so this is a title only problem.
PPS: Yes, I could zoom into the frame to avoid the shadow (and if there is no answer or solution to my question I will do that) but why should there be a permanent shadow on a Title frame that already has several safety markers - including a while edge around the frame???? Or furthermore, why should we be limited to work inside a frame???
    Thank you for your help/time.

It's locked and I'm unable to toggle it, but it seems like that is the current setting. It still shows the shadow.

  • Why Cant I Add Drop Shadow? artwork size & resolution exceeds the maximum that can be rasterized

I am making a sign for sign writing. The overall size is 2400mmx1800mm. so its quiet big.
But When I go to put a drop shadow behind it it comes up with this -
" The combination of artwork size & resolution exceeds the maximum that can be rasterized"
Why is it saying this? How do I put a drop shadow on it?

Try scaling the sign down to 600 x 450mm and building your drop shadow at a more manageable size.  When you deliver your file for output, tell the vendor to enlarge the file 400% in the RIP.  If it still will not work, check your HD for scratch space.  If there is not enough memory available to run the operation, you will continue getting the message until you clear some space and/or increase your RAM ( if necessary ).

  • How do I achieve this type of extreme subtle drop shadow using Photoshop?

I cannot for the life of me recreate this effect and it's driving me insane.
http://justpuretaste.com/ - the header logo where it says "Just Pure Taste" as well as the "We are Taste Architects" as well as the "Experts in Food & Beverage" appear to have some sort of drop shadow applied to it.  This was not done using CSS since this is an actual background image.  I would love to know how to create this effect on a consistent basis.
I haved played around with the settings for drop shadow and using opacity: 100, 70, 50, 20, along with distance set to 1, and spread/size set to 0, I still cannot get what I want.
If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it.  If no one here can, could you guys please point me in the right direction like another forum or something.  Thank you!

You see, sometimes I see that and other times I don't.  I'm not sure if the text being over a really subtle gradient causes the eyes to see things, kind of like an optical illusion you know?  But it just seems to be a very common design practice, especially the stuff I'm finding over at dribbble.  I've also tried the 1-2 px distance with a 90 degree angle but my stuff never looks the same.  I'm just unsure if I'm not doing something or this is some kind of trade secret that designers use and don't wish to divulge.
