Why is this forum going sooo Slow!??...

... must be because all the schools are closed, no more "Homework"!

People get tired if you just fool around.I totally agree with you cutie. I'll add an extra line of code in my boot loader for that, which will prevent the naughty things from getting loaded...
People can't handle my retorts because they lack certain things that I have. Now c'mon you folks can't deny That.
Why not try a social chat somewhere where you can get
the personal attention you need. Actually, I don't get social in virtual world.*

  • Why does this forum perform much slower than form forum in metalink?

I feel strongly that this forum performs much slower than the form forum in metalink where there are even more active and more issues created there.
I don't know why Oracle creates two form forum, which one is faster and another one is slower.
What is the difference b/w them besides here is jsp pages and over there is plsql pages?

Oracle certainly allows you to have users that do not have roles. Or users that don't have any system privileges. Or users that don't have any object privileges.
If you want the query to return a row for every row in DBA_USERS, you would need to outer join all the other tables to DBA_USERS.

  • Garageband 10 going SOOO slow...help please.

    Hello everyone,
I just downloaded the newest version of Garageband (v.10) and now I've noticed that it is going extremely slow. This is a brand new iMac I'm running it on. My specs are as folllows:
    27 inch model
    3.2 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5
    8GB of 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    1TB HD
I really feel like my computer should be running this without a problem. Why is it lagging so hard?
I don't have any other programs running (besides an instance of Safari).
The reason I'm worried is because I have a project coming up in which I will need to crank out a LOT of music in a very short period of time. I need this thing to be operating at top capacity.
    Is there something I'm missing?
Is it possible to revert back to the older version of Garageband that I know worked just fine?
PLEASE HELP, I'm in trouble if I can't fix this.

I don't have any other programs running (besides an instance of Safari)
Safari can be a memory hog - if in doubt, quit Safari, before working with GarageBand.
Is it possible to revert back to the older version of Garageband that I know worked just fine?
If you did not delete your older GarageBand version, when you upgraded, it will be still installed. The GarageBand installer will have moved it to a subfolder of Applications -look for a folder GarageBand 6.0.5 in Applications. You can use both GarageBand version in parallel, no problem.
and now I've noticed that it is going extremely slow
Try to narrow down the problem. Is this the same on all projects?
Then check, if you have incompatible audio units installed. GarageBand 10.0 is not compatible with older Audio Units.  And if you are using audio interfaces, check, if there are updates for the drivers.

  • Why is this forum so awkward?

If I post a question, then get an email that there is an answer, then I click on the link provided in the email. Great. But if I want to respond I have to log in again, which takes me to the log on page and then I have to find my way back to my question again. Other forums I belong to log me in automatically, why is this one so awkward?

    Richard,
It is a security feature to protect personal and sensitive info.
It is by design as many members use the same Apple ID for all Apple transactions such as the Online Apple Store and iTunes.
If you want to stay logged in do not quit the browser.

  • Why does this forum open in a window without the menu bar ?

When coming to this forum trough the " Access the Java Studio Creator Community Forum" link on the "Java Studio Creator Forums" page, it opens a browser window without the menu bar. I understand that Sun thinks it's better for me not to have the menu bar, but I personally prefer to have it. What I prefer over everything else is to have the choice.
By the way, one of the reason I prefer Sun products over Microsoft products is that I generally can choose what is better for me. Like to have or have not a menu bar, or to have my IDE in english rather that in french. (By the way, this last issue has been solved ;-))

Use this direct URL, you can have the menu bar still --

  • Why is this Macbook pro so slow?

I've had 3 other macs prior to this one and have never expierienced such a slow computer by Apple.
I got the 15" 2.2Ghz, so naturally, I was expecting a lot better than my previous 13" models, but from near enough day 1 this thing has been slow as anything.
I'm constantly getting the rainbow circle loading wheel, processes freezing up, things as simple as trying to navigate through the finder or system preferences, and everything seems to take way longer.
I've barely installed anything also, I installed Adobe CS5 and a couple small applications but not much else, besides Chrome and adium for IMing.
At first I was questioning if I need more ram? My previous laptop had 8gb, and this only has 4, but for what I'm doing on a daily basis, 4GB should surely be way more than enough?
Everything is just super slow and sluggish

  • Why doesnt this forum keep me logged in? Everytime I sign in I get error?

Alright, why doesnt the apple forums allow you to stay logged in?
Also, every time I do log in, I always get an error messaging saying:
    Page Not Found
    Whats up with this?

Sometimes the Page Not Found error appears when a thread has been taken down by the moderators for a violation of the TOU (Terms of Use).
And sometimes a specific User ID will be blocked - temporarily or permanently - if the User has posted something considered inappropriate. Yes, it has happened to me when I was ranting about inappropriate subject.
If those are not the problems, you can try Safari -> Reset Safari ... Then put a check mark on every itme to clear cookies and caches that might be creating a problem for you.
    Hope that hels.

  • Why is this netstat script so slow when you have multiple ports?

Hello, I need thoughts on optimizing a script. It is very slow as it iterates through the array. My goal was to scan a list of pcs but it takes several minutes to scan one pc. It pauses several seconds between each check. I'm hoping its scanning just my
array. I modified a function to support an array instead of a single port check. My goal is to have a function in my main script that looks at a pc, looks for common ports and counts how many connections are on that port. Any advice for speeding this up?

  • Why is my PB going so slow?

Over the last few weeks, my Powerbook G4 has been running incredibly slowly. At first I thought it was just Microsoft Entourage email program. Or Firefox webbrowser. But it's everthing. Any time I want to do something, it takes ages: for windows to pop up, for programs to open, for finder to show folder contents. (Both Firefox and Safari are also slow - and it's not my connection.)
My iPhoto is getting to be huge - nearly 20 GB. But all of the above happens even if I don't have iPhoto open. I average between having 5-15 GB of free space on the hard disk.
I have 512 MB of SDRAM. (It hasn't given me a problem before now.)
Is the computer's age starting to catch up with it, or what? Any advice?

First, you need to keep 10% or more free disk space on your hard drive for systems usage. Less than that can really slow your system down.
You may be memory constrained. In Applications/utilities on your hard drive, bring up the Activity Monitor, and on the system memory tab, look at page ins/outs. If page outs are greater than 10% to 15% of page ins, your system could use more memory for what you run. When there isn't enough physical memory, the system will write memory to your hard drive, to make room for something else. If it does this alot, it impacts performance, and if there's not enough space on the hard drive, it really impacts performance.
As our Powerbooks age, others have had the same symptom of things appearing to slow down or the system being busier more often. Some have found some relief using a tool like OnyX, which you can download from http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html . For safety when using any disk utility, backup your data first, then run the tasks under the cleaning and maintenance tabs.

  • Why is this Automator action so slow?

I created the following action to create a new folder on the Desktop after prompting the user for the name:
    -- Ask for Text
-- Set Value of Variable (created one called FolderName)
-- New Folder (I put FolderName in the Name: field)
-- Rename Finder Items (adds Date to the beginning of the folder name)
Every time I run this Automator action (as an application or as a Finder plugin), it takes ELEVEN seconds just to get to the Ask for Text prompt. The actual script runs fine after that.
Is there something I could do to speed up this action? Doesn't Applescript do this much faster?

I'm not sure - Automator applications need to load a bunch of stuff, but the following one only takes a few seconds on my machine:
    1) Get Value of Variable (Today's Date set in your custom format with a trailing space)
    2) Ask for Text (Ignore Input)
    3) Set Value of Variable (Name: Folder Name)
    4) New Folder (Name:Today's Date and Folder Name variables)

    I wonder what that's about?

  • Any ideas on why elements 9 may be running slow on my computer?

I have an HP desktop pavillion, AMD athlon(tm) II *4 processor 2.9 GHz with 6 gb of RAM  on Windows 7.
elements 9 runs pretty good unless i'm zooming in on the timeline and trying to move to a different part of the movie - it becomes very slow and jerky.  Any ideas on what may be causing this would be greatly appreciated.
While i'm at it I might as well as if there is any other way to zoom in on a portion of the timeline other than just clicking on the zoom in zoom out buttons to the right side.
    Thanks.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I have been miserably tolerated PE9 for months now, venting many times on this forum about how slow the timeline is to refresh when zooming or moving around. YOU, my friend have just vasty improved PE9's performance! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I just tried this suggestion and man, what a difference.  It's still not quite as smooth as it was with PE8 (talking about the same system), but MUCH faster than it was.  Just shows you - no matter how you've given up hope on problems like this, still well worth checking out the forums once in a while!

  • Why can't I install iTunes version 10.5 or higher? I've tried everything suggested on this forum, my friend has a mac and she can't either and it seems like the main problem is the apple Mobile device.exe wont install and applesync

    Hey anybody,
Neither myself (running on PC windows vista 32 bit) or my friend (on a mac) are able to install versions of iTunes around 10.5 or higher successfully. This leads me to believe the problem isn't necessarily with our computers and there may be something wrong elsewhere. I'm not a computer wiz but I have tried most of the advice on these forums e.g. Uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting temporary files, expanding files and trying individual downloads and more. I can install older versions of iTunes where they use to combine it with QuickTime with no problems however this is no good to me or my friend because only versions 10.5 and up come with support with iPhone 4S and that's what we need. I managed after several attempts to install iTunes 10.52 but without the apple mobile device so therefor the iTunes wouldn't connect to my phone or recognise it, apple sync notifier also has problems and fails to start.
Please can someone help me with this, I have tried everything on the apple troubleshooting pages so please don't link me those. Or please can iTunes and apple do something in an update that corrects this problem because I know many people are having similar issues. I only bought this phone for the music and at the moment I feel cheated because I wouldn't have these problems with any other phone because I'd just be able to drag and drop.

    Hi there,
I had the same experience. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, with Windows 7 Home Edition, 32 bit.
I tried to install iTunes 10.5 and it started installing, then, just before the end of the process, came up with the following error message:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
Of course, no information on what the program that couldn't be run was! At first I tried the usual stuff, like scanning for viruses etc. but nothing doing. Then I started Googling. In the end, I uninstalled all Apple stuff from my computer. A lot of it I had to do manually, going in to the program files drive and deleting stuff from there, but some of it wouldn't delete as it was saying it was open in Windows Explorer. In the end, I managed to delete the iTunes folders by selecting one of my mp3 tracks saved on the computer and right clicking 'open with'. I then browsed my pc to locate the iTunes folders still outstanding and was able to right click and delete them that way.
Then emptied the recycle bin and did a restart before going online and downloading iTunes 10.5.
Thankfully it worked, but its taken me a good few hours and made me really quite tetchy! I've never had this problem before, so I hope this is going to be a one off.
One thing that doesn't seem to be working is that, despite how many times I tell it that my preference is for the iTunes Media folder to be located on my external hard drive, it keeps putting it back to the C drive! Didn't have that issue with the last version. Grrrrrr. Arrrrgggh.
Hope you manage to get yours sorted - this is affecting a lot of people by the look of things.
