Why is trimming video inaccurate in Aperture 3

In Aperture 3 I'm creating a Slideshow made up of images and videos.
I noticed that the sections I trim are not reflected when I preview the end result.
I tried shutting down and restarting Aperture only to find that the video is trimmed in the wrong area.
Is there a limit as far as how many seconds remaining after trimming or is there a limit for front end and back end trimming of the video clip?

Well you could try going into Prefs, set external video editor to quicktime, and trim it there. Aperture is not a replacement for a video editor. I'd edit in quicktime, or iMovie, and then bring it back into aperture. Or even better, export slide sequence slideshows from aperture and then bring those movie clips into Final Cut to make a movie. Or iMovie. Just a thought.

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?

  • HT202020 Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone 4 not supported by Aperture.

Why are certain videos that I have taken with my iPhone not supported by Aperture?  That's weird.  I expect that since both iPhone and Aperture are Apple products, file support should be seamless between the two.
Also, iPhone 4 does not appear as Camera Model in the metadata of the unsupported video file in Aperture .  But other videos I have taken with the same iPhone 4 appear in Aperture and the Camera Model appears correctly.  Why is that?

Have you done some cleaning and cleared caches on your Mac? Maybe the  com.apple.xpchelper.cache file is missing. Check the folder /System/Library/Caches/

If this file should be missing, you need to restore it from a backup or reinstall it by reinstalling your system.

  • Non-video tutorial for Aperture?

I need a non-video tutorial for Aperture, is there such a thing available? A book, a page or WRITTEN instructions? The videos are useless, can't search for what I need to know - ie how do I actually edit a photo and get it to stick (crop, manipulate?) I'm so frustrated I'm editing my photos on my PC and sending them to the mac - thanks!

The Help file is, imho, well-structructured, thorough enough, and serves beginners well. It is (of course) searchable. It comes with the program, and is also available on-line at http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual
The Peachpit Aperture 3 book is used by Apple personnel for training. It doubles as a guide for Aperture 3 certification. It is set up as a series of lessons.

Aperture is a complex program with a long steady learning curve. The view from the slopes is good! Take a break from your frustration. Learn the names of things, the layout of the interface (covered in the first pages of the two things referenced above), and ask +specific, answerable+ questions ("When I do Y I expect X but I get Z. Why do I get Z? How can I get X"). There are many here who are happy to share what they have learned.

  • How to retrieve a video corrupted by Aperture?

    Hi,
Earlier today I exported a video from my Aperture library to my desktop, but I got an error message saying that the process did not complete and now the only thing that's left in Aperture is an image preview with a yellow triangle. Aperture says it cannot locate the reference file and there is nothing on the desktop either. I tried to explore the database, but the .mov file has gone from the masters folder. I tried to repair the database, but it did not work. I tried to use data recovery software, but they did not find any trace of that video. I am not using vaults. I looked on the Internet for similar cases, but could not find anything. The video was made from an iPhone 5, but I did not have an iTunes backup so I can't get it back that way. I tried anyway o recover data from the iPhone's flash memory, but the videos are gone. My last Time Machine backup does not include a copy of that movie either...
Can you please suggest how Aperture managed to corrupt my precious file through a failed export and how I might be able to retrieve that video? The original movie file must still be on the HD somewhere in one form or another.
For your information, I use Aperture 3.4.3, the library is 243GB large, the video I exported was 105MB. My MacBook Pro is running OS X 10.8.3. I've been using Aperture for about 2 years and never had this issue before.
    Thanks

I have just opened a bug report. Here is the content for information:
    Hi,
I would like to report a bug with Aperture 3.4.3. It is the same issue as reported by another user under reference case #13497037.
On 31/03/13, I exported a video out of Aperture. The file was originally created by an iPhone5 in full HD. Its name was IMG_159.MOV and it was 105MB large. I selected the file in Aperture and exported the original to a folder on the desktop based on the project name and version name. Aperture started the export process, but after a short while I got an error message saying that the export had failed. Immediately after the message, a yellow triangle appeared on the video and it will not play anymore.
Upon exploration of the library package, I can find the thumbnail, but the master has gone. I tried the 3 different option to fix the library without success. I tried the different options to reconsolidate masters, but Aperture just says no masters can be located. I then scanned my entire disk with a data recovery software (Wondershare Photo Recovery 3.0), but it did not find any deleted or active master file (it did correctly find the thumbnail in the library).
That video file was not backed-up yet so for the moment I have completely lost it, which is a problem as this was an important video.
Later on the same day I did 2-3 other exports in the same conditions and they worked fine.
Then, on 01/04/13, I exported another video also made from an iPhone5 in full HD called IMG_154.MOV that was 346MB large and that also included my preset IPTC metadata. The process failed exactly as described earlier and now that file is corrupted too and the master has disappeared.
I then tried to export another few videos in the same way and the problem has not occurred again yet.
I did not notice the size of my library going down and another complete computer scan with my data recovery software did not reveal any deleted files, so I do believe that the masters of my 2 corrupted videos are still hidden somewhere inside the library.
Can you please assist with the recovery of these masters. I have spent some time on the Internet and I have personally come across a few users who seem to have experiences exactly the same issue, so this is not an isolate problem. However, so far it has only happened randomly on my machine.
    Thanks

  • Why would my video clips be running too fast when played on the monitor panel?

I posted my problem earlier today, but re-reading it maybe I didn't explain myself well enough.
My main question is: "why would my video clips be running too fast when played on the monitor panel ?".  This is occuring after I have selected my media from the Tasks Panel and placed them in correct order in the Timeline/Sceneline.  I knew something was wrong when I could see that the clips were not indicating their right length when viewed in the (expanded) timeline.  They were compressed into just a few seconds, whereas the clips should have been at least 5 minutes.  I ran the clips in the monitor and sure enough they ran too fast, with a lot of jerking movements.
The 3 video clips I am trying to make into a HD PAL video were taken with my Nokia N8 mobile video camera. These are in mp4 format. Can this present a problem ?  Note that when I play these individual HD clips on my computer in (Windows Media Player) they run fine.
After I placed the clips in my Project Panel (or before in the Organize Workspace), I have perforned no change or manipulation of the clips.  They are in their original state.
Just too confirm that the clips did seem to be compressed, I burnt a DVD, the resultant video ran in a matter of seconds.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, that is what the problem was.
Although the video camera on my Nokia N8, mobile was capturing at 25fps,
for some reason once transfered over to PrE9 (via file transfer), the clip was interpreted as 500fps.  Once in Interpret Footage I was able to change the fps to 25.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How do you trim videos in Photo Booth on the OS X Mavericks?

I recently updated to the new OS X Mavericks. I don't know how to trim videos on Photo Booth though. Before I updated, there was a "trim" button on the bottom right side of the video that was playing, but I'm not sure where it is now. Is it even possible to trim videos anymore? Thank you

After you take your video and it appears on that little strip at the bottom, click and drag the video you want to trim onto your desktop. Then right click and choose Open With > Quicktime Player.app (It should be default.)
Then when it's open, press Command-T on your keyboard or go to the Edit menu and click Trim...
Then drag the little yellow handles to where you want to trim it to and hit the Trim button.
Then press Command-S to save it, or click the little share/export on the player controls to send it to Facebook or whatever you choose.
    Hope this helps,
    xeni

  • Why are my videos not playing the right way up

Why are my videos not playing the right way up

I took four video clips while on a trip this week.  Two are oriented the right way (playing wide on the device and imported correctly).  The other two are Tall and not oriented right.  Orientation is 90 degrees to the right.  I don't know why this is happening on occasions.  Even some pictures I took did the same **** thing.  It's weird.  And I can't figure it out.  The camera is held the way I want the pictures and videos to be recorded and played but something internal is turning these videos and pictures 90 degrees clockwise.

Short Slo Mo video imported to Aperture or iPhoto via cable (Air Drop not supported on my iMac): only the SloMo section imports. Not the rest. Any fixes?

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission.  Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions?  I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account.  It did not change how files are output.

Lots of ways to go on this. But, I think starting with a definition of the source media and how you are setting up the project is going to be the path to success. So, we need to zero in on questions/answers related to what I wrote earlier
The properties of the source media need expanding up beyond "file types are AVI, AVCHD, and MOV.
    a. What are the video and audio compression of the files with the .avi file extension and what is the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
    b. What is the file extension for the file with the AVCHD video compression. Again, what is the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
    c. What are the video and audio compression of the files with the .mov file extension and what is the frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio?
You asked how to go about that. The best way is to run each of the file types through a video properties read out program such as MediaInfo
    http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
Latest versions of that MediaInfo have been problematic in that you need to be on guard for any unwanted toolbars and installed "extra" programs (bloatware).
    OR
We would not necessarily get more information, but we would get enough to put us in a good position, if we run the types through gspot utility (good for codec and basic information)...less bloatware concerns
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
The dialog that you would get from gspot would look like
Once we know the video and audio codecs, frame size, frames rates, interlaced or progressive frame rates, etc. that we are dealing with, we on a good course to set up the project settings to match those properties, independant of whatever export choices we have in mind. That we will address later after a successful import and edit.
    OR
A third choice for getting at this information is less productive but can be a good last resort...knowing the brand/model/recording settings of the camera from which these files came.
Please review and then let us know if you can gather the file properties information details requested.
We will be watching for your results.
    Thank you.

  • Why is the video inside FCP 6 slightly darker than the OS

Why is the video playback inside FCP 6.0.5 slightly darker than wehn I play the same Quick Time file just inside the normal OSX10.5?
I'm using a Cinema HD 23" monitor running at 1920x1200 and display profile is Cinema HD Calibrated
    Thx
    Kevin

It is darker because that is a more closely representational GAMMA as to what you will see on your external broadcast monitor. QT lightens the gamma to ensure that most computer monitors can see the footage. As stated, if you want the gamma to appear darker, enable FCP COLOR COMPATIBILITY in the QT preferences.
WHY does it look more like what you see in FCP when you view this on a PC? Well, that is the monitor that PC is using. Take this file, put it on 10 PC all with different monitors and you will see 10 different gammas. The monitors themselves can be set to certain DISPLAY PROFILES (look in your DISPLAYS section under COLOR)...so you can have a HUGE variety of looks.
The reason is because of the monitors and the computers driving them.
