Why is updating final cut pro such a nightmare for all users?

How come I cant get back to final cut pro 6.0.3? Or 6.0.4? These were a stable version of FCP for MY SET UP..... I can not find how to get back to these versions. All that I see is pro updates, or updates using apples software update, that will just get me back to 6.0.6, a version of FCP that my plugins dont work under.
Is there a secret place where 6.0.3 lives that I dont know about? I have seen reports saying there is no more way to get back to 6.0.3 or certain levels of FCP.
This truly is a nightmare. This is coming from a 10 year user of logic, a program that was bought from a german company by apple, and intergrated into their own product line of apple products. With logic, I can go back to 7.2.3 if I wanted to, or logic 8.0.2, if thats the set up that works for me with my plugins. Is this even possible?

When item(s) are available in Software Update, go to the menu bar > Update.
Activate the option *Install and Keep Package*
The individual Installers will be saved at: Hard Drive/Library/Packages.
Now, stop cherry picking the advice you have been given over the past few days. Copy the contents of your User space to an external drive. Bite the bullet and reinstall Mac OS X. Run Software Update and accept everything. Repair Permissions and restart the computer when it is done.
Install Final Cut Studio. Run Software Update and accept everything. Repair Permissions again and restart the computer when it is done.
Install other software from their original discs or download them again.
Copy the contents of the folders from the old User space back to the folders with the same name in your new User space. *Do not copy the contents of the Library folder*.
When you have done that, post back and I will help you retrieve your email and third party fonts.

I cant update final cut pro!  It is final ur pro 10.0.6. Please help

    Hi blackstorm,
This is a good place to find answers to one's FCPX problems because there are a lot of helpful people here.
As I look down the list of posts on the FCPX page here I don't see a lot of GREEN "This solved my problem" signs yet there are posts where the problem got solved. It helps everybody if there is an indication of a problem being solved because that is often where we go to first.
If someone helps you they can be rewarded with a "Like" (that doesn't mean that they necessarily Solved the problem but that you liked their response) or even a "Star" (Really helped you and/or you really liked their response).
Giveing people who help you an Atta-Boy and a pat on the back makes them feel good.
So folks, if soeone helps you please don't be bashful.
If you figured it out yourself it also helps to come back and say what you did that fixed it.
Just because one can get frustrated doesn't mean one can't leave some good carma.

  • Why does my final cut pro is not responding every time I open it????!!!!!!

why does my final cut pro is not responding every time I open it?

As you give no background info nobody can possibly guess.
However, have you tried trashing the preferences?
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.
The preferences are kept separately from FCP X and if there aren't any when FCP X opens it automatically creates new ones  .  .  .  instantly.

  • Why does our Final Cut Pro Batch Exports incorrectly name sequence files?

Why does our Final Cut Pro 7.0.1 Batch Exports incorrectly name sequence files?
For example I can Batch Export 10 sequences one of which is called:
    "899-006TL013 It's Not Your Fault 800-509-2875"
Then the output for some of the files are along the lines of:
    "899-006TL013 It's No#61386E.mov"
I have seen this happen with 1-6 files or not at all... is it just dumb luck?
What is going on here and is there any way to avoid or remedy this issue?
We first thought having the render destination window open caused it but that was not the source.
    Any ideas?

I've run into the same problem with FCP 7.0.2 when exporting from the sequence using File --> Export --> QuickTime Movie. I exported a file today called "BSP - 01 - How You Can Be Sure You Are A Christian" and it came out as this "BSP - 01 - How You Can#1630". This is getting to be annoying. I also need to name these files the length they are. I'm hoping someone may see this and have a suggestion (besides shortening the file name). It seems like I've also seen this on shorter file names, but at the moment I can't prove it.

  • I can not update final cut pro on one of two computers

I updated Final Cut Pro X on lap top but can not update on IMac.  Purchased through app store.

You can just copy the app across with a USB thumbdrive.

  • HT1338 Not able to update Final Cut Pro X to latest version.

Macbook Pro 15" 2.6gHz, Retina display notebook:
When I try to update Final Cut Pro X (version 10.0.1) from within the software, the dialogue returns that all software is up to date.  I know for a fact that FCP X is now at version 10.0.5.  Spotlight is enabled for all system and software.  How do I updage my FCP X??  Help.  Thank you.

Thank you for your reply.  I followed your suggestion:  Checked once more in the App Store for the Update to Final Cut Pro 10.0.4 and did NOT find it.  So, I deleted FCP X version 10.0.0 to the trash bin.  I emptied the Trash Bin.  Now when I go to the App Store, the only option I can find is to purchase a new application.  There is no where to simply download the application in the App Store that I can find.   I hope I have not been led to delete my working application and can not retrieve an update!!
What do you further suggest at this juncture?  Thank you.

  • How to update final cut pro newer version?

How to update final cut pro newer version?

Do you have Final Cut Pro X? (To check, go to the menu bar and click Final Cut Pro > About). If you don't have version 10 (X) I don't think you can update it any way other than buying it from the Mac App Store, which requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later.
It's currently $300 on the Mac App Store, which is an enormous drop from what it used to be.

    Hi Cereskit
Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?

  • Is the final cut pro application too large for my 13" mac pro or should I install it on an external drive?

Is the final cut pro application too large for my mac book pro laptop? Should I install it on a hard drive?

4 GB hard drive!?!  It's a memory size not hard drive size   Your hard drive is much bigger than 4 GB . If you have 2011 model then hard drive size is 500GB or 750 GB HDD. You can install final cut pro and many other programs .

It says on the "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8" pg that this download is for all users and supercedes all earlier versions. Yet to the right is says you HAVE to HAVE 10.6.8 as a requirement. WHICH is it?  Is it for all versions of 10.6 or not? Why isnt this made more clear?
And question is STILL not answered.  WHICH is to be downloaded and used?
    I would like an answer.

Thank you for the clarification!  It is really kinda circle-speaking to state on an information page to put forth info people need in that manner.  It really does add to the confusion and frustration when you need a simple,
straight answer, such as you gave, and you dont get one.  Kind of like that . . other... software company....
This rabbit hole still continues, though.  I'm going to ladder it out, just to see for myself:
    Have: MacBookPro / 2.4 GHz/ Intel Core i5/ running OS X 10.6.3 -
    Need: latest version of Java, so Flash update can be loaded;
(want html5 to be the standard so badly, but client wants Flash)
Attempted:  Tried to find Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 2 on Apple website.  No Joy.
            Found:   Update 2 is proper update for Mac OS X 10.6.3.  Could not find download on Apple website;
                           - No Joy.
Attempted:  Tried to find Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 8. Half Joy. Confusing, no straight info.
Found:   In order to install update for Java, must update OS X from present 10.6.3 to 10.6.8
Attempted:   Tried to find update to OS X 10.6.3 to 10.6.8. on Apple website.
how far does the rabbit hole go?

  • Why doesn't Final Cut Pro X update songs from Garageband?

While working on a short film in Final Cut Pro X, I worked up a simple sound track in Garageband. I imported the Garageband project, aligned it, and discovered that I'd mistimed one of the sound transitions.
So, I went back to Garageband and updated the transition, moving the sound effect to the right spot to match up to the video, and then went back to FCPX. I dragged the Garageband project onto the original copy that I'd imported, and selected "replace" and ended up with... the original. After some experimenting, I actually went and deleted an entire track from the Garageband project and reloaded it in FCPX... still no change. How can I fix this?

    Here's an update...
I made some changes to the Garageband track and saved it as another project... Final Cut refused to even detect it until I restarted Final Cut.
I have a sound effect that's placed at 1:32 in Garageband, and it ALWAYS plays at 1:31 in Final Cut, no matter how shift it around in Garageband. After changing the song in Garageband and sharing it to disk, I verified that the sound effect is happening at 1:32 by playing it back in Quicktime, so it must be Final Cut that's misbehaving.

  • Error updating Final Cut Pro from App store

    G'day,
I'm trying to use the app store to do the update on Final Cut Pro. We have a slow connection at home so I leave it downloading overnight, but when I get up in the morning it says theirs an error in the pkg. Is there anyway I can download the update directly (e.g. on my faster work connection) and then take that file home to do the update?
    Thanks

    Hi..
The updates need to be installed directly on the Mac where the app was originally downloaded to.
Instead of leaving the download running during the night, if it's convenient, "pause" then "resume" at a later time.

  • Updating Final Cut Pro Academic 6.0 to 6.0.5

I've downloaded all the proper updates for Final Cut Pro Academic and installed them, restarted the computer, but when I start Final Cut Pro again, it still says version 6.0. I'm trying to use a project file that was created on 6.0.5 but it won't let me run it (I get the error "file's format is too new for this version of the application").
I've run software update, and there are no pending updates.
Is it necessary that I update the OS to 10.5?

Sorry, I missed the part where you said you ran Software Update. Try and download the updates from the Apple site for Final Cut. You will need your Serial number I believe.
