Why is WAP54G RPT MODE better than WRE54G?

Hello,
I have a project to expand a wireless network to another building with two floors.  The proximity is close (literally only 15 feet between the walls), but only clients with great antennas/wifi cards would be able to reach the router in the main building, so I want to expand the wireless signal into the new building.  The new building is two floors high, has no dropped ceiling or other ceiling/wall access, there is no conduit available between buildings, and no feasible way to run a wire, so my only real choice is to expand the signal coverage from the main building to the new building via wifi.  I have read many posts on many different forums covering this topic.  I understand that having multiple WRE54G repeaters has created reliability issues for some people.  Too bad, because these are nice, discrete little units and would be ideal for what I need to do.  I have seen several people recommend WAP54G units in repeater mode (no hardwired connection to the main router) in place of WRE54G units.  What is the difference?  Are they technically doing the same thing, and do you lose bandwidth by half with either unit?  Is it just that the WAP54G has been more reliable?  Not that bandwidth is my most important concern, reliability is my main concern, but I do have to deal with the issue of mounting these high on interior walls.  Does the WRE54G v3 exhibit the same problematic issues that previous versions 1 and 2 did?  I have a WRE54G v3 that I installed, and upgraded the firmware.  I have to admit, setting it up with a WRT54G was problematic, but once it was set up, it hasn't lost its link since (just going on one week now).  I do not have WEP enabled yet, I'm just using MAC address filtering from the WRT54G.  My proposed configuration is:
WAP54G in main building, just inside the outer wall.
WRE54G in the 2nd building on the first floor.
WRE54G in the 2nd building on the second floor.
Both WRE54G devices would directly connect to the WAP54G, one would not connect through another.  Does anyone see any potential problems?  Also, we have an extra WRT300N that was donated that we were just going to use as a WAP by deconflicting the IP with the router and turning off DHCP.  Any problems using the WRE54G with the WRT300N?
Thanks in advance to all that reply for your experience and insight.

Thanks again for your response.  It is not practical to run an Ethernet cable from building one to building two, that's why I'm finding this to be a little extra complicated.  The conduit situation is a total mess and they left no pull-throughs.  Outdoor routing is not an option either.  Thanks for your comment on the umbrella coverage characteristic, I had not heard that before but that will definitely be taken into consideration with our placement of the client-specific WAP.  It's not a simple two-story building - the first floor is longer than the second floor, and the extra large space on the first floor is at one end and is where most of the WAP clients will be located.  We'll be doing a lot of testing.
After performing more exhaustive research on these devices, I have decided to use the entry-level small business line - like a WAP54GP - because I need to have reliable wireless bridging between buildings one and two.  However, everything I've read about units in this category shows that the N+gr model WG 102 has the same capabilities and performs noticeably better, especially at extended range.  It's just a little more difficult to configure, but most people are very impressed with it.  I purchased a WAP54GP anyway for testing purposes and will be able to compare the two in actual use.

From your point of view and the framing of your question, Apple does indeed support WIndows better than Mac for the limited issue of iCloud.

...YET, Leopard and Snow Leopard are NOT iCloud compatible. How can that be justified? Obviously, Apple can make iCloud available to Snow Leopard, but disdains us...
Historically speaking, Apple has rarely gone backwards in its OS development.  Once they have released a new OS with new technology, I can only think of one example of when they backtracked:  They released TrueType technology in System 7 and then released System 6.0.8, which included TrueType technology for continuing System 6 users.
So it is part of their culture to move forward and not backwards.  Other examples:
    •  Inclusion of the then novel SONY 3.5" disk drive in its release of the first Macintosh (and not the industry standard 5.25" drive); after its use in the Lisa and adoption for the Apple II series of computers.
    •  Elimination of the floppy drive completely in the release of the first iMac.
    •  Use of then novel AAC audio compression as "state of the art" compression for the iPod release in 2001 instead of the outdated mp3 standard.
    •  Refusal to allow use of FLASH in iPod Touch/iPhone/iPads.
How could they justify these decisions?  The marketplace justified them for Apple!
So, yes, they could release 10.6.9 with iCloud support.  But why now, if not then?

  • Why is MME playing much better than ASIO4ALL

I have a 64 bit acer Aspire R7 with 8GB RAM and runing windows 8.1. i have bin using adobe audition(now using CS6) for about 10 years now and i have never found myself havin this problem:
1)It so happens that my MME drivers are giving less glitches than the ASIO4ALL.(no matter how much i play around with the buffer size)
2)when using the asio4all during play back, the volume is lower compared to that of the MME drivers.
3)the asio4all icon on the system tray keeps flickering from play(green) to an exclamation mark(red) constantly
i cant use my MME for my projects coz i gat quite a bunch of plugins waiting to join the party...hence it will start glitching too sooner than later(((pliz help!!!help help help!!!!

I'm usin the onboard soundcard.i know have to get an external USB soundcard(guilty)...money issues.((but the thing is i used to run the same version of audition on a much smaller laptop(hp,32 bit,3GB RAM) and it worked far much better than the acer.when i play audio in audition with plugin effects:MME used to lag while ASIO4ALL would play it smoothly.n now i have rather the opposite situation.

What audio interface are you using with Audition? If you are using the onboard soundcard you would be much better off using an external USB connected one with proper ASIO drivers which bypass the operating system completely.
There should be no difference between using ASIO4All and MME drivers since ASIO4All uses the windows drivers anyway. It converts them to ASIO for audio interfaces that don't have ASIO drivers. However from what I hear Win 8.1 may be causing the problem with your glitchy audio especially if you are using the built in audio
What do you mean there is no difference between ASIO4ALL and MME drivers?then why does audition prompt to use ASIO4ALL if available??

Why does my iPhone (3gs) sound so much better via Bluetooth on my (Jawbone) Jambox than my new Mac Mini or 3 year old MacBook Pro?  Proxmity is about the same and doesn't seem to make a difference.
sound from via Bluetooth sounds muted like in a cave or can, pretty darn good from the iPhone, ideas? (in a test I did with a Braven speaker via Bluetooth = same, in that case the Macs sounded even worse!)
    Thanks,

If I were you then I would have asked this question in the mac forums
as people there have a much much higher chance of owning those macs then people in the iphone forum who could own windows computer or linux computer or no computer at all

  • Why is my mbpro mic better than my usb

I bought a decent plantronics usb microphone - but people keep on telling me the mac mic is better, when they talk to me online. Does anyone know why this is - been through a bunch of usb mics and this is usually the case.  It's annoying because it means i have to speak louder for them to hear me, or can't close the mbpro (I'm usually connected to an external monitor).
    Anyone recommend any microphones?

Have you tried adjusting the input volume for your USB mic? System Prefs > Sound > Input tab > select the mic > adjust the input volume slider.

  • Why does my PS work better than my Lightroom 5 exporting jpegs from raw files?

    So,
I'm editing some raw files with Lightroom 5
but when I export the jpg file, the result is terrible, it looks washed out, loses contrast, noise levels are higher than the edited file on suite
However, if I do the same thing using camera raw through PsCS6, the exported jpg is perfect. Any reason for that to happen?
've been reading a lot about color spaces, and I don't think is the case, since the same doesn't happen with photoshop.
Also, it might be worth mentioning I'm exporting B&W images
    Thanks!

  • Why Flash player performance is better than Player comes with Adobe air ?

I built an Adobe Air application that played Video and working awesome on PC. now when i tried to start working on Tablet Version, What I found is
    1. When i played 1 MB video file from Local , Audio and Video are not in sync and very disturbing. (not able to play a file more tha 2 Mb)
I created only video player using OSMF in the app. there is nothing else that can hamper the performace.
    2. When i played same video using Web based Flex Application. It works perfectly
    3. I tried with StageWebView in Adobe air  and Results are equivelent to Web Version.
I am using Adobe Air 3.1  which is shipped with Flash Player 11.1, Then where things went Wrong.
Why I can't get the same performance in Air App?
IS AIR THE RIGHT CHOICE TO BUILD MOBILE APP?
IS THAT POSSIBLE TO GET NATIVE PLAYER/WEB VERSION LIKE PERFOMANCE (OR CLOSED TO) USING ADOBE AIR?
    In addition,
I tried to read about encoding and other white papers. But basic thing that troubled me is, If Web Version is fine then why Air is not able to give the same performance.
    Hardware configuration : 1G processer,
    OS : Android 4.0.3

  • Why is Spotlight so much better than Finder?

I don't get why Finder is so useless.  I type a file name or application name into Finder, it doesn't find it.  I type it into Spotlight, and POOF there it is, right at the top!  Is there an explanation for this?

Finder just uses Spotlight, so searches should be identical given identical conditions. When you search from Finder, confirm that you're having the search look at the entire system ("This Mac") or it may be searching only a specific drive or folder and hence turning up only partial results.  You can set what Finder looks at by default in the Finder Advanced preferences; I set mine to "Search This Mac" so that the search is widest by default.
Note that unlike the Menu Bar Spotlight search, Finder does not return a "Top Hit" - returns are strictly alphabetical by file/folder name -  so things may not be at the top like you may expect.
    Hope this help.

  • Is a clean install with target mode better than upgrade?

Hi, is it better to do a clean install of Leopard and then transfer my files through an external fw drive or do just doing a plain upgrade? I ask because I know how much smoother and snappier a system is with a clean install but I do need to transfer all my files somehow. Thanks

I haven't gone to Leopard yet (my copy is allegedly due here sometime today or tomorrow) but I did an upgrade install on my home Macs for every new version of the OS since, well, forever. In the past there have been times when there was a problem, but few of them, and all cured by an archive install. I have never done an erase install.
    YMMV.

  • Why does my Shuffle sound better than my Nano?

I have a 1st Gen Shuffle and a 2nd Gen Nano. I run them both from the same computer, using the same version of iTunes on the same account.
Unless my ears are playing me up the sound from the shuffle seems to be better. The nano sometimes sounds a bit fuzzy on bass notes, this is particularly noticeable on bass drum beats where the beat sounds almost crackly. I particularly noticed this on the Amy Winehouse album (May mean nothing to you)and thought it may be authentic crackle from a sampled drum loop, but it does not do this on the shuffle.
I have swapped the headphones and fiddled with the Eq on the Nano, which can sometimes improve but not remove the problem.
Is there anything I can do or is this just one of those things?

It's one of those things... the 1st Gen Shuffle has a different processor (sigmatel) AND a different digital audio decoder chip from the 2nd Gen nano (Samsung) which, in turn has a processor and digital decoder related to the 2nd Gen Shuffle.
It's one of life's strange turns that the 1st Gen Shuffle seems to have the BEST audio performance (although without builtin equalization) of the iPods.

  • Why can't Creative do better than Ipo

    Hi,
I have a few Creative players and all came with different chargers.
I bought the new Zen V Plus expecting it to have its own charger or at least be compatible but they have done the old Ipod trick of making you buy more products.
    WHERE IS MY WALL CHARGER?
I had an Ipod nano but got fed up of the menu system and the lack of a proper charger only to open my box to the zen v plus and have no charger apart from a crap usb one!!!!
Can I use my zen v m or zen sleek charger? How about my motorola rz v4?
They are all different- will anything make them compatible?
WeezieMessage Edited by Weezie on 0--2006 09:9 PM

There was only one store that sold the zen v plus where I li've and you couldn't see the box until you collected it.
Every other creative I have bought included a proper wall charger - so this is what I expected.
I have tried my mobile phone charger a motorola razr v4 it fits and is 5 v but it won't work.
I don't see why I should buy another charger when I already have 2 creative ones - they should all be compatible they are all ZENs therefore they should take more time to ensure compatibility!!

  • Why is Garmin & TomTom far better than directions from Siri

My first smart phone is my iPhone 5S. I live in NYC. When I ask for directions, it takes me to the toll bridges and tunnels via the route with the most traffic.
She never heard of the 59th St aka Queensboro aka Edward Koch Bridge. It took me to Staples, and 5 gas stations that were closed a long time ago. My Garmin and TomTom ask if I want to pay tolls or find a different route. They don't know traffic conditions and have to be updated for the gas stations.  I assumed the iPhone could know traffic conditions and stores that were still in business. Do you know any apps that can?

I think Apple maps works fine for me. What you have to remember is that Tom tom and Garmin specialize in Mapping. Obviously Google do too.
I know Apple maps are provided mainly by Tom Tom and AutoNavi who are chinese.
Maybe Apple maps needs a little more work as its relatively new.

  • Oc4j standalone running better than AS

    Hi,
I have problems with Oracle Application Server 10g. Before, In the development phase, me and team always using standalone OC4J which was taken from OracleIDS 10g and everything running well. Now in production we decided to use oAS Forms Services, but oAS is ALWAYS down less than 3 minutes since reach the main page with this error :
FRM-92102: A network error has occured
The Forms Client has attempted reestablish its connection to the Server 1 time(s) without success. Please check the network connection and try again later
    Details...
    Java Exception:
    java.io.IOException: Connection failure with 500
After we refresh the page, usually browser will show '500 Internal Server Error'. And after we refresh about 2 or 3 times, we can access the main page again. Both OC4J and oAS are running in Windows 2003 but in different machine.
I'm new in Application Server, I don't understand why standalone OC4J could be better than oAS. Please help me to find out and solve the problems.

  • Why Annyconecct is better than vpn client ?

why anyconnect is better than cisco vpn client ?
    what is its advangatges ?
i think that both are remoteaccess vpn .
    why its better ?

The other thing is that, Cisco does not support traditional VPN on Windows 8.X.  I have run in to lots of issues trying to install  Cisco VPN client on Windows 8.x clients..  it sometimes work and sometimes it needs registry hacks etc.. really painful setup for the network engineer.  So Anyconnect is preffered.
Also, since SSL uses port 443/SSL by default,  it does not need any ALG (Application Layer Gateway) functionality in remote end user's routers to operate, and will simply work with normal PAT which is always on..  with traditional IPSec VPN, since it uses ESP, you need to have AGL turned on on the user's GW router (this is normally called IPSec VPN pass through mode) and this sometimes doesn't work the way you want specially on the older residential routers. When this happens you really don't have any other option for those users.. and your only response would be "Sorry your router does not support this kind of VPN  or  your router does something strange with the VPN  so Please upgrade your router" which is something the normal residential user don't want to hear.. and something you want to tell them..
So SSL VPN is the way to go..

  • Why is illustrator better than corel?

    hello forumers.
im an illustrator freak, but my annoying boss wants me to learn corel ;-( ,i need some facts why illustrator is better than corel so i can shove his face in it if possible.
    VIVA illi
    thank you very much.

Do not, I repeat do not, ask James or Scott or Hans.
    Indeed.
Only ask Jacob, who is still using a four-version out-of-date copy of Illustrator and who tries to personify it as a female idol.
If the comparison is to be "fair" (which it clearly will not be, at least from your perspective), it should compare Corel Draw X4 to Illustrator CS3 or CS4. Release dates being what they were, X4 would more legitimately be considered Draw's answer to CS3; since it long predates CS4.
Talking about earlier versions of either program is not very meaningful, except in the sense of history of development. When I compare the release histories of Draw, FreeHand, Canvas, and Illustrator, Illustrator comes in an often-embarrassing last in terms of features long taken-for-granted in other programs.
im an illustrator freak, but my annoying boss wants me to learn corel...i need some facts [that] I can shove his face..
Shove in your boss's face? For presenting you an opportunity to escape fearful dependency upon a single software?
i need the pros and cons...to outline to him why illustrator is better...
Why don't you simply welcome this opportunity to actually know something about that which you claim a completely bogus "preference"?
Were you at all interested in gaining input that would help you help your boss reach a rational and objective decision, you would at least describe something about the kind of work your boss pays you to do. What kind of business employs you? Is the Macintosh platform even relevant to your boss's business market? How large a workgroup is affected by the software choice? What kind of artwork does that workgroup produce? How is it delivered? What are its initial content sources? Who are the end-users of the artwork? In how many different ways is it delivered, and in what formats?
Yet here you are, soliciting predisposed "why Illustrator is 'better' than Draw" advice from a handful of users who, so far, admit themselves having either no, or practically no, experience with Draw! If that's not blind-leading-the-blind, I don't know what is.
You are by admission predisposed toward Illustrator, even though you are not at all equipped to say why. Reason is pointless with so irrational a mindset. Since no one responding yet seems to actually know anything about Draw, I will instead offer some ammunition I hope your boss uses to see if you are even objective enough to consider it.
The following is a just-off-the-top list. Should you actually try to counter it, you should be prepared for more:
    General:
Lower cost, both initially and in upgrades
    Better support for non-current versions
    Faster performance
Better support for several vertical-market industries (signage, embroidery, engineering-related)
More robust CAD and more business-centric import/export formats
    Better multiple page implementation
    Better-organized interface
    Highly-customizable workspace
    Features:
    User-defined drawing scales
    Reliable snaps
    Dimension tools
    Callout tools
    Connector lines
    Flowchart Tools
    No-nonsense, 2D vector face extrusion
    Live shape primitives
Smart Drawing tools (freehand shape recognition)
    Virtual Segment tool
Ability to properly cut/crop vector and raster content
    Contour tool (multiple parallels)
    Export selection only
    Barcodes
    Print Merge
    Bundle for Output Bureau
    Scan directly into Draw
Trim (not merely mask) vector artwork to any path
    Fit Text To Path
    Text stats
Export artwork as Type 1 font.
    Lens Fills (live details)
    Live Perspective
Object Data (spreadsheet-formatted database of user-defined object data fields)
    Fillet / Chamfer / Scallop
    User-defined Arrowheads
Shared Features Better Implemented in Draw:
    Mesh Grads
    Dynamic Guides (with increment snaps)
Independent control over Snaps for Guides, Grid, Objects, Dynamic Grids
Property Bar (far more sensible and useable than AI's poorly-designed and buggy Control Panel)
    Status Bar with context-sensitive instructions
Elastic Mode (vs. AI's Reshape tool)
Add/remove/line/curve/cusp/symmetrical curve commands properly implemented for all nodes (points) in a selected path
    Logarithmic and Symmetrical spirals
    Macro Recording (vs. AI Actions)
Envelopes (retract envelope handles without wrecking artwork)
Old-Saw Arguements Based on Overstatement, if not Myths:
Adobe's cross-app "integration" is more hype than substantive advantage.
Illustrator's text handing is worst among Adobe apps and worst-of-class among its direct competitors.
Draw opens and creates PDFs just fine.
Claims of AI superiority regarding importing of raster images is practically immaterial. In fact, Corel Draw's interaction with Corel PhotoPaint is at least as "smooth and seamless" as AI/PS, if not more so.
Using vector artwork created in Draw (or any other mainstream Bezier drawing program) in page-layout programs is no more difficult than using AI. This stuff has been being done for decades.
Again, this is just a beginning. You do yourself a huge disservice by declaring (let alone attempting to defend) a "preference" to the only choice with which you have experience (and evidently only beginning experience at that). That's true regardless of which program you claim to "favor." How can one, with any trace of intellectual honesty, claim to have a "favorite" of anything--when one has no exposure to any of the considered alternatives?
Since you already have Illustrator, you should absolutely welcome your Boss's willingness to provide you a current copy of Corel Draw. Here's an opportunity for you--at no personal cost--to actually learn something about another program; to potentially have some clue as to what you're talking about when you claim to "prefer" one over the other; to benefit from knowing more than one particular tool, and to overcome the fear of learning your way around more than one offering among similar programs. For all you know, you may be arguing against the program you would actually end up preferring.
I could also build a bullet list of better-than-Draw AI features. It would not be as long as its opposite. Nor would the AI-favoring listings be as broadly practical.
Fact is, anyone can build a bullet list to favor any of them. (Just look at the sides of the boxes, or each vendor's self-serving "competitive comparisons" on their respective websites.) Fact is, all of them are really rather mediocre; mostly 20+ years-old technology.
You really should have no axe to grind in this, unless you can state something specific to your work that strongly favors the relatively few functional advantages of AI.
    JET
