Why is Windows Dev Center soo slow in the UK?

Whenever I try to log in to dev.windows.com Windows 8 dashboard to upload apps or check my statistics etc. It is sooooo slow. Every other app website is super fast like Google Console or IOS. But the windows console is very slow. When/if I finally manage
to log on. I dread pressing the details button to see the stats because I could be on the page for a few minutes with the little spinning "waiting" icons going round and round. About 50% of the time the stats never load at all and the waiting icons
just go round and round....
Is it just the UK that is slow to log on to the Windows 8 Dashboard or is it everyone around the world? Or is it just me? Am I assigned to a particularly slow Windows Dashboard server?
Surely I'm not the only one? It must be putting people off submitting apps to the app store.
This is not my internet connection as I can stream HD movies fine. It's just this one website!

Soo slow on the internet! What is wrong?

I bought my new Mac Air yesterday from a local applestore.
Now I have installed updates and done everything by the book, and it is sooo slow on the internet! Our home comeputer (Dell) is much faster!

Windows Action Center says 'Connect to the internet or try again later' when I have a working internet connection

I'm running on Windows 8.1 pro version and I've had this problem since I upgrated to Windows 8. I also have problems with Windows Update getting stuck on preparing to install or downloading updates but it shows the size of updates as 0 kb and progress stays
at 0%. I usually have to reboot and then run Windows Update again to get it to work. Sometimes it also asks if I want to resume download since it thinks I'm on a metered connection.
I use a 3G usb dongle for my internet connection, but I also have manually setup a local network on my NIC (which does not have a gateway set) to connect to my backup server. If I remove the 3G usb dongle and set a gateway for the NIC (I currently also have
dsl landline which is used by other computers on the network) Windows update works without problems. I have the Windows settings enabled to download over metered connections so that should not be the problem.
Is there maybe a problem how Windows handles the internet connection using a USB dongle when you have a local network setup, or is there something else I might have missed? I did not have this problem when I was still running on Windows 7.

Reminiscent of the same symptoms as a dial-up user. Then, one way that I could use Help & Support (in XP) was by setting Never dial in the connection and making sure that Support via H&S was the
first request I tried after connecting. Otherwise it seemed that those applications thought they could expect LAN speed performance which was obviously not the case. I have been surprised how relatively
few similar incidents there have been with PPPoE because it could have the same problem, just on a faster circuit and so lower probability of it happening.
You could try tracing with a TCP packet tracer such as NetMon to see what the timings are in each case. Unfortunately I think that the ability to tune away timeout symptoms is still very lacking in W8. Do you know what all your dongle has to
do to set up a circuit? One difference between W7 and W8 is greater use of IPv6. So you could try disabling that support to see if your symptoms changed.

Checked the properties for the usb dongle and it doesn't have ipv6 on the protocol list at all. Can't really say looking at netmon if there is problem with timings, atleast with my level of expertise. Might try to install Windows on VM on this to see if it
has same kind of behavior since it will use the same internet connection.

you will see that only virgin has good speeds, ( not available in my street) sky seams to be a tad quicker, but im on the willowcroft exchange (EMWILLO) which has the lower speeds overall.

You certainly don't have any third-party software that's causing your sluggishness.
Sometimes, a failing hard drive can cause sluggish behavior, however.
Boot into your Recovery partition (hold down the command and R keys whilst booting) and once at the Recovery screen, select Disk Utility. Select your hard drive (in your case, the aptly named "Macintosh HD") and click on the "Verify" button. If you get green text telling you that everything appears to be OK, then it's not your hard drive slowing things down. If you get red text telling you that the disk needs to be repaired, click on the "Repair" button. If the disk can be fixed, it will be. If not, call back.

Windows 8 Login extremely slow when the password is wrong

Hello everybody. I have a problem with Windows 8. On the login page if I input a wrong password, often it takes even 1 or 2 minutes to tell me that is wrong! I assume it tries to connect to the Windows Live Account to check if it was changed since last
time. Is there a solution to this problem?

A700 blue screen of death when performing Live TV Search in Windows Media Center

I just got my new Lenovo IdeaCenter A700 today and have been busy setting it up. I was trying to set up the TV on it, and used Windows Media Center. I plugged the tv cable in to the back of the computer and selected "live tv setup". I then put in my zipcode and it was downloading some things and then came up with a blue screen. When the computer restarted the information below was the MS error message. I have attached the files mentioned in the log. This happened to me twice.

Windows Media Center on my HP TouchSmart PC won't switch channels on my attached Cable Box.

Have a Motorola DCX3501-M DVR (cable box) connected to my HP TouchSmart PC (Win 7 64-bit) in order to view and record HDTV channels. Problem is I can't get Windows Media Center to communicate with the cable box properly, e.g., when I select a channel to view in WMC (using the PC's remote control) it does not tell the cable box to switch to that channel. I have the IR cable connected from the rear of the PC and affixed to the front panel of the cable box. How can I get the cable box to work properly with this PC?

Take the IR cable that is connected from p.c. IR out port and plug the other end directly into EXT IR IN port. Next to IEEE 1384 and Power Cord ports. I really do not see how a p.c. remote can control any thing but the computer because these remotes do not have a option to add codes to them like a universal remote does. They also do not have special butons to allow you to contol other devices such as tv's or stereos and cable boxes like a universal remote does. I checked our Help and Support and did not see anything about mentioning controlling other devices.
You might want to by pass the cable box altogether and directly plug the cable antenna wire directly into the computer and see if it can tune in cable channels. You might not need the cable box after all. There are two antenna ports on your computer try switching the cable antenna arround. I found out one antenna port olnly picked up one channel and when I switched the cable cable arround I was able to pick up all the channels.

Please reset the network settings: settings/general/reset/reset network settings. Once that is done, please monitor the device and see if that corrects the issue. What is your zip code?

Why does windows have 64-bit iTunes but not mac?

I can't believe it. I searched the archives here and someone said because most people don't have 64-bit compatible machines. Then why does Windows get separate versions but not the native OS?
I'm running audio hardware optimized for 64-bit (drivers) but the sound quality of iTunes is worse in 64-bit than in 32-bit.
Anyone have any knowledge when 64-bit is going to be released?

iTunes is only 32 bit for Windows OS and Mac OS.
The 64bit version for Windows simply includes 64 bit drivers. The application itself is only 32 bit.

Hi,
The Windows Security Center is part of the Operating system and can't be removed. If you want to disable it:
Start>Run>services.msc [enter]
Scroll down to Security Center and double-click it to open the Properties. Stop the process from running and change the startup to "disabled".

E3000 + Windows Media Center

I am trying to setup my laptop (and hopefully my desktop) to an XBOX 360 for Windows Media Center. I configured the XBOX so that it changed from Moderate to perfect by configuring the port forwarding and sent to a reserved IP address on the XBOX. I can browse my internal network on my Windows 7 laptop and see both the laptop, desktop, the XBOX and the router all on the same network (they are all connected to the same band, but I tried doing it in seperate bands too with no difference).
I get the Windows Media Center codes from the XBOX and I plug them into Windows Media Center and it cannot find the XBOX. I turned the Windows Firewall off too and that made no difference. I opened up the ports (on the XBOX and tried it on the laptop) based on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911728 for configuring the XBOX as the extender. I am not sure which device (XBOX or laptop) gets those ports forwarded but I tried it both ways and it made no difference -- the device could not be seen.
I tried it with uPNP and with it off -- made no difference.
Anyone with any ideas or experience using XBOX Windows Media Center Extender with the E3000??? Thanks in advance.

Hopefully this thread will get a solution. I have the same problem. I can not get Windows Media Center to recognize that I have an (new) Xbox 360 and I can't get the Xbox to see any PC's. I can see the Xbox in Media Sharing and have it checked to share media.
When moving through the steps of the Media Center -> Task -> Add Extender it tells me that my Windows Firewall settings need to be changed, but it's turned off. As is the firewall on Norton.
Don't mean to hijack the thread here, just hoping that a solution is found.
