Why is Windows XP unable to match passwords?

Hi,
This question is being posed on many different parts of the forum: why is it so difficult for Windows XP to connect to an Airport Extreme base station?
My MacBook with Leopard is only 2 days old, and despite all my tinkering, I cannot get a connection with XP when running the Boot Camp partition. I am not sure whether this is an Apple or Windows problem. I get as far as Windows asking me to put in the hexadecimal WEP password, the key that I carefully copied from the base station, but then NO connection is made...
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Klaus

I found this on one of the Macrumors forums on the web:
I had exactly the same situation as iBunny.
I got it working by changing the settings via Airport Utility from "WPA2 Personal" into "WPA/WPA2 Personal" and it worked. Btw, before this, I changed from channel 11 to 1, 1 to 2, 2 to 7 without success. I've kept it under channel 7 and just made the change mentioned above.
Also, under winXP, I went to Wireless Network Connection properties and filled up the preferred networks. Am not sure if this has anything to do with the problem at hand but I am now connected automatically.
The user was using a Macbook. Hope this helps.
Regards Denis

Just updated my iPhone 4 to latest IOS but unable to match password security nbr. Phonoe now locked.
Is there a way to recover password?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have tried as you suggested, and when opening the "purchased" apps some have the icloud logo next to them, but I only have "OPEN" against "Find My iPhone". When opening it up, it goes through the same routine; needs to be updated before proceeding, and wouldn't update because I don't have IOS8.
Anything else I could try, or am I doomed!
All of your help is much appreciated, thanks

  • EA3500 - Windows was unable to connect... (Win 7 and Win 8.1 have done this off and on)...

I recently purchased a Linksys EA3500 router and am using it as the sole router in my home network.  I have primarily had three devices connected to the network computers/tablets -  two running Win7 and one running Win8.1.
The first few days were OK but then the Win 8.1 system would not connect to the network (see the error message below).  "Windows was unable to connect..."  I tried the problem troubleshooter, power cyclilng the comptuer, power cycling the router.  Updating the router firmware to the latest (it added a .1 at the end).  Uninstalling and reinstalling wireless drivers on the computer.  I've reset the router to factory defaults.  I've run the router with and without wifi passwords.
This morning I was able to connect the Win 8.1 system to the network.  Not sure what changed overnight.  However, today I have had two instances of a different computer, one of the Win 7 systems, suffering the same problem.  Different hardware.  The Win 8.1 system is an Asus T100 tablet/netbook using a Broadcom 802.11abgn Wireless SDIO Adapter.  The Win 7 system is a Dell E6540 laptop using a Dell Wireless  1506 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz adapter manufactured by Atheros Communications, Inc.
Last night, when I was having problems with the Win 8.1 system, I should note that it worked fine with the 5 GHz network.  The laptop, however, does not support 5 GHz and now that it's suffering the same problem my only work-around is a cellular hotspot.
I'm suspecting the router at this point.  Has anyone else seen this?  Any ideas what could be causing it, what I could do to fix it or what I might do to help diagnose the problem(s) ?  I'm more than willing to run third-party software to analyze and better understand what is happening on a network level (I would actually like to understand as much as anyone is willing to get me started on).
If I am unable to determine why certain systems almost seem to become "banned" from my network while others are working just fine then I'm going to have to return this device and try something else.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi @daved31,
You are on the right track. Checking the Wireless MAC Filter is one of the troubleshooting steps. For 2.4 GHz frequency, the suggested channels are 1, 3, 6, 9 and 11. For the 5 GHz, I suggest to use the highest channel. Those channels will give you a better signal, just make sure that no other wireless device is using it to avoid wireless interference.
If only one wireless device is not connecting wirelessly, we should focus on the wireless device itself because we know that the router/access point is working since the other wireless devices are working wirelessly.
I suggest to delete preferred networks on the laptop. Here's the link that may help: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/GetArticle.aspx?docid=85537a14b0214be48217c733bba9ac65_Removing_Wirele...

AnithaI'll make couple of off the cuff observations in no particular order.
    1) ORACLE XE only allows a single instance per system.
I suspect that you are attempting manual DB creation since dbca is NOT provided with XE.
why do you not use dbca to make the new DB?
    2) typically the password file resides in $ORACLE_HOME\dbs
    3) Oracle password file is NOT required to exist.
    4) does OS user invoking orapwd has necessary OS permissions to actually create the file?

  • Users Unable to Change Password

Small Business 2011 Standard with Windows 7 Pro workstations - all fully updated.
We have an issue where none of the users can change their passwords. They receive a message saying that the password
doesn't meet the length, complexity or history requirements of the domain.
I know (at least in my case) that the password hasn't been used before and there is no problem with the length
and complexity. I've even tried switching off the password policies in the SBS Console with no success.
Apart from the SBS Console is there anywhere else I should be looking that has a higher priority than the console?
    TIA

We are using SBS 2008 (SP2), and we too are having this problem. Have done all the necessary GP changes. Have done gpupdate /force. As test user, I seem to be unable to change password at all (originally "minimum age" was 1 day, if that is somehow
still in force might explain why); my end user has waited longer than that, she reports she can change her password but never back to anything in her history (original default was, I think, 24 passwords, might explain).
While rsop on domain and clients/rdc  shows:
    Policy Policy Setting
Enforce password history 0 passwords remembered
    Maximum password age 42 days
    Minimum password age 0 days
    Minimum password length 0 characters
Password must meet complexity requirements Disabled
Store passwords using reversible encryption Disabled
    Anybody any ideas now??? :(
EDIT: Hmmm, net accounts /domain gives me:
Force user logoff how long after time expires?: Never
    Minimum password age (days): 2
    Maximum password age (days): Unlimited
    Minimum password length: 0
Length of password history maintained: 24
    Lockout threshold: 50
    Lockout duration (minutes): 10
    Lockout observation window (minutes): 10
    Computer role: PRIMARY
    The command completed successfully.
Those settings would explain my problem, then!
I can see that net accounts will allow me to alter this stuff, from the command-line, I guess that is what I need to do?
    NET ACCOUNTS
    [/FORCELOGOFF:{minutes | NO}]
    [/MINPWLEN:length]
    [/MAXPWAGE:{days | UNLIMITED}]

    Hello Aditi,
In AS Java 7.1 and higher you go to short link /nwa and navigate
to Configuration -> Infrastructure -> Java System Properties – Switch to
application tab in second section (Details about <InstanceName>) ->
    search for tc~idm~jmx~app.
For 7.0 you have to do that in Visual Admin but I would need to read docu to know where it is too.
But you can find that all in UI installation guide http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001233082010E

If you don’t know how to set it, you may visit the official website: http://www.resetwindowspassword.net or contact the computer manufacture.
The computer boots from CD/DVD or USB drive, then
1 The program will ask for the Windows OS hard drive volume. Enter the ID number of the hard drive volume that Windows is installed.
2 The program has detected all the user names of Windows and asks which user name password is to be removed. Enter the ID number for the User Name.
3 The program asks to confirm weather to remove the password or not. Enter "y" (yes) to confirm your action and "n" (no) to deny the action and hit "Enter".
4 The program asks whether to continue to remove passwords for other accounts. Enter "y" to continue and "n" to finish. Eject your USB from your computer first and press any key to restart the computer from Windows. Now you can log in Windows with an empty password (with no password.), just click “Enter” when you login.
If you have any questions of the procedure and the settings, you could visit the website:http://www.resetwindowspassword.net or send email to [email protected].

Now I found I'm not alone. My situation is similar but not exactly the same.
I recently switched from the white MacBook to latest mac mini, tried installing XP Pro not successful for some reasons then tried Win7 (build 7000). On my old macbook this worked perfectly.
Got win7 updated and picked win7 as startup disk in windows, used that for few days without going back to leopard. On just one occasion I booted with 'alt' key pressed (using a PC keyboard) I have choices of drives so I thought everything was fine. As soon as I booted into leopard I found no win7 partition in system>preference>startup disk, OMG I couldn't boot back to win7 since then. From that point onwards the 'alt' key didn't work for me. Every time only leopard can be booted.
    What can I do now?
Why it was OK in macbook but didn't work on mini? Is it worth investing on a mac external keyboard just to get the 'option' key?

I tried following someone else's thread and tried to delete the greyed out ones so I can download again but I fear I may have completely deleted them. Also, I have a lot of duplicates, both on iCloud and both downloaded! What's happening? My iTunes appear to be behaving ok!
