Why isn't Adobe Reader XI appearing in my list of "Open With" choices?

I'm running Windows 7 and having no luck in getting this to work as it should.  What am I doing wrong?

Please don't post any question more than once. Did you read my answer in the parallel thread?

Well the app must have worked at one point if you have important data in it. Maybe you should seek help on the Adode Reader for iOS web site.

Have you rebooted the iPad and then tried the app again? Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Form is filled on iPad then emailed.  If form is opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible.

Form filled on ipad.  When opened with Adobe Reader all text is visible, but if opened with Acrobat XI no text is visible- form is blank.   Have been using this system for months with  no problems.

That suggestion makes sense and likely works, but only if the user is on a machine that will allow them to use Reader. I'm sending this out to a lot of teachers, who are using machines either at school, or are school-issued machines, and they don't have the admin privileges to install software-- even Reader.
so my problem is, if they are stuck on a machine without Reader, and without the possibility of having Reader... it's just not going to work because Preview can't handle these functions.
And, since that is not an acceptable answer with what I'm trying to do... I will find another way to create/submit forms. I think there are some online possibilities I will have to make work.
    very, very disappointing and frustrating.

I installed ADE and when I try to download ebook it tries to open with Adobe reader and does not give option to open with ADE

It sounds as if you downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you did, uninstall it. Then repair Adobe Reader.
The free Acrobat account has no connection to any of this.

  • Why isn't Adobe reader an option in my share box in ios7

am viewing a PDF of a bank statement.. Want to save it to adobe reader but iOS share I john does not have adobe as an option.  How can I add it?

Are you viewing the PDF document (your bank statement) in Safari (the default web browser)?
Please see the Safari section in one of the following FAQ documents.
For iPad, see How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 version)
For iPhone, see How to get PDF documents into Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 version)
Please make sure that Adobe Reader for iOS is already installed.  Safari does not show other apps like iBooks and Adobe Reader as the Share options, which is unconventional.

  • Why does my Adobe Reader DC stop working when I click scroll down options?

I used to use PDF Suite 2014 Standard to view pdf files.
However, tonight a message appeared when I attempted to open files saying ..."if the document does not load then the pdf viewer may not be able to display this type of document"
I went to the website provided to download Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.
Although I was able to load pdf documents and fill in forms, the program repeatedly would crash whenever I attempted to click on scroll down options on forms.
    Any help is appreciated
....and talk/write slowly for I am not super computer literate.

Dear Aedesh, Thank you for your assistance.  I did all that you instructed below, regarding uninstalling, and using the Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool.  I restarted my computer, then installed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (for Windows 7, English and version: Reader DC 2015). I continue to have the problems: (1) When I attempt to use a scroll down option within a pdf form, the program stops working. (2) If I send the pdf to my iPhone, and I open the pdf, I receive the message "Please wait...if the message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your pdf viewer may not be able to display this type of document..." However, when I send pdf's created earlier than 4-28-15, I am able to open in my iPhone.I am able to open on my laptop the pdf's created after 4-28-15, but have the scroll option issue  (thank you in advance for your patience)Luisa

  • Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader?

Why won't Adobe reader no longer let me view previously download (from Safari) pdf's? I am running OSX 10.8.5 and have uninstalled and reinstalled latest version of Reader. I get this error message "Adobe Reader could not open 'OD Test Bed Proposals_0.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried changing the 'open with' options too. Thanks

    Try this:
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files
    Empty the trash
Relaunch Safari. You can now download undamaged PDFs.

Why does my Adobe Reader (10.1.3) freeze-up when I down load statements from some websites?
When I down load statements from some websites, the pdf freezes and I get a message that the website is not responding and that windows is checking for a solution for this problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times. I really like the Adobe Reader, but I need answers on why this is happening and how to fix it. AN AUTOMATIC UPDATE FROM 08/23/11 DOESN’T CUT IT!!

Why will my Adobe Reader 9 not open the downloaded CS6 Beta file?

    Hi,
If your asking about the photoshopcs6_p1_installnotes.pdf, then it should open with Adobe Reader 9. It does for me with Adobe Reader 9 (9.5.0) on OSX 10.5.8.
The PDF is saved to version 1.4.

  • IN I.E. 11 under manage-Addons Adobe reader only appears under Run Without permission not under currently loaded

IN I.E. 11 under manage-Addons Adobe reader only appears under Run Without permission not under currently loaded
Is this expected behavior. I have some sites that will not load adobe documents. The site in question is a School District application that we cannot open seating charts.
This was installed using an MSI. Test sites I go to work fine.

I believe with further investigation that this is normal and when a PDF document is open it then shows in currently loaded.

  • Why won't adobe reader open my jpeg files?

why won't adobe reader 11 open my jpeg files?

    Hi Nassman,
Adobe Reader is a read only software for PDF files. JPEG is not a supported format which would open in Adobe Reader. You would need to open Jpeg in application which supports this file format.(e.g. Photoshop, Picture Viewer, MS Paint)
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other question.

  • My Adobe Reader Updater appears to be stuck and is NOT updating.  Any suggestions?

My Adobe Reader Updater appears to be stuck and is NOT updating.  Any suggestions on how to fix?

Download and run the Adobe Cleaner to completely remove Reader.
Download the offline installer here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ and run it.

  • Why does my Adobe Reader installation time out?

Why does my Adobe Reader installation time out at 64 percent on Windows XP?
I am currently running version 9.5.2.
Does anyone have a solution please.

    Hi,
This "timeout at 64%" issue has been reported more than a few times  here.
You can try direct download from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
If you can dedicate some time and help to investigate the issue, here is what I would ask:
Before trying the link I have provided, can you please enable verbose MSI logging and try to install Reader the way you did originally - I assume that you used Adobe.com, right?
If it fails again at 64%, please find the latest MSIxxxxx.log file in the Temp folder and send it to me.
    To enable Windows Installer logging
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300
...open the registry with Regedit.exe and create the following path and keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
    Reg_SZ: Logging
    Value: voicewarmupx
The Temp folder on Windows XP is
    C:\Documents and Settings\[YourUserName]\Local Settings\Temp

  • Adobe Reader 9.4.2 - PDFs won't open in IE 8 & IE 9

The recent Adobe Reader 9.4.2 is causing issues with PDFs opening in IE 8 and 9 browsers.  Prior to this update our users have had no issues with opening PDFs generated by our website.
Our website generates USPS labels using Siberix ReportWriter software.  We have not released any updates for at least a month.  Again, before the release of Adobe Reader 9.4.2, there was no issues with our website's PDFs opening in IE browsers.
    User System Specs:
Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate
    Adobe Reader 9.4.2
Internet Explorer 8 - "File Download" window issue
Internet Explorer 9 - "File Download" window issue
    Firefox 3.6.13 - No Issues
Chrome 9.0.597.98 (with Adobe Reader 9.4.2 plugin enabled and Chrome PDF Viewer disabled) - No Issues
The "File Download" window states the following (in addition to a Save and a Cancel button): "The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program.  It is either corrupt or it has an incorrect file type.  As a security precaution, it is recommended that you cancel the download. ..."
We have the following workarounds to address this issue with our customers, but they are not ideal:
    Update to Adobe Reader X
Disable "Display PDF in browser" Reader option
    Don't update Adobe Reader 9 to 9.4.2
    Install other PDF Reading software.
Any solutions to this issue would be appriciated.
    Thanks

We are experiencing the same problem, as I mentioned below. I did some research and experimentation, and have a ... workaround. It's not completely satisfactory, but we will go with it until we have a complete solution. Perhaps the following will help others and spur some research in the right direction.
First, a quick review. The problem does not occur with PDFs located on disk; it only occurs with direct streaming of PDF data. Let's also note that the problem does NOT occur with other browsers, e.g. FireFox. So ... technically the problem is not an Adobe Reader problem and we're all on the wrong forum.
My specialty is databases and I'm certainly no expert in this area, but from what I'm able to gather the problem is instead with how IE is recognizing and responding to the MIME type of the streamed data. We're all setting the contenttype to "application/pdf" (or similar) or we wouldn't even be here. But I'm concluding that something - some windows update - has changed the way IE on clients or (in my case) IIS on the server is handling that data stream. If any of you experiencing this issue have servers other than IIS, then the problem is on the client side, I'd say.
Aaaaaanyway, the following articles are old, but helped me:
    http://forums.asp.net/p/1036628/1436084.aspx
    http://www.techper.net/2008/02/27/4-ways-to-stream-pdf-and-some-tips/
To cut to the chase, the workaround we're going with for now is to add the following to the http response header (this is C#/ASP.NET code):
    Response.AppendHeader("content-disposition", "attachment;filename=myfile.pdf");
That causes a popup dialog to appear asking the user to open or save the PDF, something that is familiar to most everyone. If the user asks to open the file, it appears in a browser window just as it did before this problem occurred. Again, this is a temporary solution, but at least the user can see the PDF data in a browser with one extra mouse click.
If an Adobe tech support person or anyone with more experience in this area knows the final solution, I'd LOVE to hear it. Please reply here or in email.
    Thanks and good luck all.

You should have no problems downloading PDFs with Safari.
Unfortunately, ANY PDF that says it's damaged.... is. You'll have to trash them.
