Why isn't Genius working for any new songs?

For some reason, none of my new music has been working with iTunes Genius. None of the music that came out in the last year has worked into Genius yet. I remember the last time something like this happened, Genius included the albums after three or four months. I didn't purchase the music with iTunes, but older music that I didn't purchase with iTunes works fine.

File sharing not working for any new accounts

I am using the latest version of Mavericks. For every new account I set up (Sharing, Administrative, Standard) trying to set up file sharing on a directory fails. When I set up the account, select a directory (on the boot drive or on an external drive) to share and do a get Info it always shows "Fetching..." on the new account. If I try to set that directory to share from an account in SysPref>Sharing when I click on the directory and try to set the account to share, even though the account shows up in the list of accounts to use, when I select any new account it does NOT show up as selected for sharing. It is as though the new account isn't quite being correctly set by the system. If I launch and look at any new account in WorkGroup manager they appear to be normal but cannot be used in File Sharing. I am really scratching my head on this, since I do everything I should to share a directory and all new accounts are just not working.
Any ideas or suggestions??????????????? HELP HELP!

hi there,
that error message sounds like you placed a shared folder within a parent folder that is not shared. It also can help to boot into Recovery Mode (pressing Command and R simultanously when hearing the startup tune), launch Disk Utility, select the disk containing your OSX installation (usually named Macintosh HD) and choose Verify Disk Permissions. Should any problems be reported select Repair Disk Permissions. Once that is finished, reboot normally.
Though unlikely, it might have happened during all the folder removing and readding that some Permissions are out of sync. So checking these Permissions is merely a precaution
Once you are back in "normal" OSX using your admin account, try this:
Open Terminal from the Utilites folder
enter the following commands one line at a time:
mkdir /Users/Shared/Family
mkdir /Users/Shared/Family/Movies
mkdir /Users/Shared/Family/Mom
chown -R <placeholder> /Users/Shared/Family
chmod -R 755 /Users/Shared/Family
Be sure to replace <placeholder> with your account's short name (no brackets!)
Now open System Preferences and select Sharing
Select File Sharing from the left pane
Click on the little plus and add /Users/Shared/Family to your shares (The subfolders are automatically included)
in the right most pane check the access privileges. They are set, so that you can read and write to those folders, while everyone else can only read. If you want everybody to have read and write privileges, use 777 instead of 755 within the terminal last command.
Now the other computers should be able to see and use the shared folder you just created.
If you create individual user accounts on your machine for every family member you want to access the shared folders, you can choose far more sophisticated levels of access privileges.

Why isn't PSE9 working for me?

When I upgraded from PSE8 to PSE9, I immediately had serious difficulties: Many of the tools simply stop working!
The first thing I notice is that when I launch PSE9, the icon in the system tray has a slowly blinking yellow background, which finally stops with a sorta bright yellow background. At this point, if I try a keyboard shortcut, like Ctrl-O to open an image, it doesn't work. I found that I have to click on the PSE window somewhere...this causes the background of the PSE icon in the system tray to turn grey (looks just like the PSE8 icon now)...after which keyboard shortcuts work. Any clues what PSE9 thinks it's doing here?
But that is not the BIG problem: When I get an image loaded, many of the tools stop working. Here is a list:

I have tried removing and re-installing PSE9. It will initially work on the first image, but shortly afterward, all the above stop working! I can relaunch PSE9 and that doesn't "fix" it. I can reboot Win 7 and that doesn't "fix" it. I can turn the computer off for a while and that doesn't "fix" it. There are no other programs operating strangely.
I'm running it on Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit...AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ w/ 4 GB of DDR2 RAM.
I'd appreciate any help you experts can give. I've been fighting this for 2 weeks (I got PSE9 for Christmas) and it has me stumped...

I'm on hold with CS now. During this time I have been playing to see if I could discover anything. I did...
I have tried removing and re-installing PSE9 again. When I reinstall it, the first thing up is the welcome box and when I double-click on the “Edit” bar, a 2nd PSE icon appears in the system tray…it does the 6 blinkies thing and then often, but not always, I get an error box from Win 7, which says, “Photoshop Elements 9 has stopped working”. Win 7 checks for a solution…never finds one…and asks permission to close the program. When I say “Close Program”, the welcome box closes, but PSE stays up. But it doesn’t work, as I detailed in my OP.
I’ve just discovered another wrinkle: If I create a shortcut on the desktop directly to “PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe”, which bypasses the welcome box, PSE seems to work correctly. I now wonder if that error may have corrupted the program?

Why is my router not working for my PS3, PSP, anymore and why isn't it working for my iPod touch?

I have the Linksys WRT54G wireless router, and for a while now it has worked well for my desktop computer, my sister's laptop, my PS3 and my PSP. Recently I got an Ipod touch and tried to set up my wireless connection and nothing worked, so I checked on my PS3 and PSP and they aren't connecting either. It always says something like exchanging key information, and still doesn't work. I'm getting very aggravated, I've reset the router several times and nothing. Keep in mind that my desktop computer, and my sister's laptop still works just fine, all the others devices don't work anymore. What can I do to fix this?

Upgrade the firmware on the router to the latest one and then set up WEP security on the router and change wireless channel to 11.

I have an older iMac 5,1 and the disc drive no longer works. I was hoping that I could the Apple USB super drive as a replacement, but the info on the super drive page says compatible with iMac 2012 or later. Does anyone know why it would not work for me?

A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it." Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct 25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.

We're in the middle of reviewing the JAN2009CPU readme, and found a curiosity in the patch notes.
- Our platform is Oracle 10.2.0.4 Enterprise Edition on Solaris 10 64-bit.
In the Post-Patch instructions for the CPU, we see the following clause

3.3.5, "Post Installation Instructions for New and Upgraded Databases"
These instructions are for both non-RAC environments and RAC environments
when a database is created or upgraded after the installation of CPUJan2009.
You must execute the steps in Section 3.3.2.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files
into the Database"" and Section 3.3.2.2, "Recompiling Views in the Database"
for *any new database that was created* by any of the following methods:
- Using DBCA (Database Configuration Assistant) to select a sample database (General, Data Warehouse, Transaction Processing)
- Using a script that was created by DBCA that creates a database from a sample database
- Cloning a database that was created by either of the two preceding methods,
and if Section 3.3.2.1, "Loading Modified .sql Files into the Database"
was not executed after CPUJan2009 was applied.
Upgraded databases require no post-installation steps to be executed.

So, if you create a database by any of the explicitly listed methods (all of which are creating a database from a backup that my have been made of a database that was not patched to that level) then you need to run the scripts. If you create a database by some other method (about all that is left is a command line CREATE DATABASE) then part of that creation will necessarily include running the necessary cat* scripts, which will already be at the correct level.

(Regarding why mail needs to be checked every minute: it's connected with business here in Japan where email is the standard way to send instant messages from / to mobile phones, unlike elsewhere where SMS is the norm.)

Instead of joining it from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed. Before I went through network diagnostics and all of that stuff in system preferences, and then I tried the "Join Other Network" method, and now it works like a dream.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.

Facetime only works via WiFi. Are you trying to set up Facetime with a T-Mobile account?

Did you use the generic installer or the win32 one ? You should use the former with Win64.
You can also check that your version of Java is supported in the certification matrix.

Careful here Pradeep, this is not valid syntax.
