Why isn't home sharing working?

I can't get home sharing to work on my Apple TV(2) nor my Macbook Pro.  It also won't work on any of my Windows 7 PCs.  This appears to just be a recent event.
I tried to turn on my Apple TV and it wanted me to turn on Home Sharing which I had already done.  So, I went back into settings and applied my Apple User ID and my password.  It said my password was invalid!  Don't know how that could be.  I haven't changed anything.  I check my Apple account on iTunes on my Macbook and my Apple ID and password worked just fine.
Once I turn Home Sharing off, I can't get it back on.  All my computers give me an error (5599) and now (-3259 "Home sharing could not be activated because an error ocurred).  Sounds like something Microsoft would say!
Any help out there?

I think I jumpednthe gun too soon. I was trying to show a slideshow using Apple TV and couldn't get Home Share to work right then and there. After several attempt to log into Hom Share, it finally came back up and I was able to get to all my devices.
Thanks for the rapid response anyway.

    Help!!!!

    Hi there,
The good news is that M-Audio have just released a new set of drivers. Check out the following support article:
    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=36be2fb74b90752fe3568b07c20a2 189
While this relates specifically to Leopard, perhaps you were falling foul of some driver issue.
Time to try updating your existing drivers and let us know. By the way, no, you were FAR from the only person with this problem. M-Audio have been very slow in getting drivers out. Let's hope this is now a thing of the past.

  • Why won't home sharing work on my iTunes?!

Why won't iTunes let me use HomeSharing? I've authorized my computer, and I've turned on home sharing! I've done everything that I am supposed to do for HomeSharing to work on iTunes! (also, I use a Windows 7 OS)

Maybe iTunes simply does not like you.
What happens when you try to use homesharing?
Is the library shared on the computer that has the media?
Are all computers on the same Wi-Fi network and subnet?

  • Why won't home sharing work on my ATV3?

I can't get home sharing to work with my new ATV3.  When I go to the Computers menu in my ATV3, nothing appears but the message telling me that all devices using the same Apple ID will be automatically located.  I have followed all of the configuration instructions and troubleshooting from the Apple help guides.
iTunes is running on my PC
I have turned on home sharing in iTunes and am sharing my entire library
I have connfigured TCP ports 123 & 3689 to be open in my router and firewall
I have configured UDP ports 123 & 5353 to be open in my router and firewall
    I tried disabling IPV6
I tried rebooting my PC, router and ATV3
I can ping my ATV from my PC
    I am running iTunes 11
    ATV software is current version
    ATV connects to WiFi fine
ATV connects to the iTunes store and streams Netflix fine
My PC is Windows 8 64 bit
Home sharing to my iPhone 5 works fine
I have searched on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with ATV.
    Help anyone?
    Thanks.

if you go to the appleTV menu - you should see a "computers" button as you say in your post, when you click on it, do you get the spinning apple logo and then an error / message, or does it just time out and return to the menu.
have you actually enabled home sharing on your apple TV device ? as it has to be enabled and signed into using the home sharing account, if you don't turn on home sharing on the apple TV device and enter the same username/password as your account being used on the library it won't pick up the library.
you know it's working on the iphone (as I'm guessing that syncs with the library device so shares the same account) which is good, so I suspect you just need to enable home sharing on the apple TV and enter the same account details as the library computer.

  • Why won't Home Sharing work with iPhone?

So I, as many of you are as well, have been having issues with home shareing. My issue seems to be associated with our iPhones. I can get it all working great, but the second I start to try and access home shareing with my iphone, or use the remote app from my iphone to control my itunes or ATV2, it all falls to peaces. We have an iMac, iPad, iPad 2, and two iPhone 4's, all connected via a belkin dualband router. I just don't get it.

Both have recently been updated with IOS7

    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

It certainly allows you to copy ripped CDs. Just did that myself last week.

  • Why would my home sharing stop working

my home sharing from my desk top to my laptop stopped working. can someone tell me why it stopped. cant get my itunes library copied to my laptop

I am having the same problems now as well. Just did the OS update this morning. Before the update, I could view purchased TV shows on my Apple TV and now, I get a message saying to access your iTunes library on Apple TV, turn on Home Shairng in itunes. Have done that, and restarted everything. Nothing works so far.

  • Why won't my Home Sharing work?

I have a MacBook Pro running Lion.  Home Sharing is turned on and logged in on iTunes and iTunes is running, still I cannot access my computer's Library on my Apple TV (2 gen) which also has Home Sharing turned on and logged in..  It used to work every time, but recently it has decided not to load the Library.  I have not changed anything anywhere, either in my home network (Airport Extreme) or any system preferences.  I do not understand why this has happened.
Can anyone (especially Apple techs) give me a reason for this problem and advise how to fix it.  I would like very much to watch my iTunes Movies on my HDTV via Apple TV as I used to be able to do, but it just will not cooperate.

I have done a comprehensive check on all my other devices (iPhone 4s, iPad mini, iPad (1) and all of those devices have NO problem with Home Sharing.  They all work as they are supposed to.  So, I decided to "reset" my Apple TV.  It seems to have worked.  I have now tried three different times with Appl;e TV and it worked each time.
Therefore, I would advise anyone else having problems with Home Sharing on an Apple TV to reset the Apple TV. You will of course have to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and restart Home Sharing and enter your account information as well as other initial settings which Apple TV will prompt you for.  But it did work, at least for now.
