Why isn't iMovie update free?

I have a mid 2010 iMac 22.5", and have upgraded to OS X Mavericks.  Keynote, Pages and Numbers have all updated, but not iMovie or iPhoto, and in the App Store, I have to pay for them.  What gives?

You need to have the iMovie 9 version to upgrade to version 10 at no charge.
iMovie version 8 can't be upgraded for free.

is the garageband, iPhoto,iMovie update free, as I have purchase mac book pro last december, I am unable to update it from app store. When I try to do so it says "To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it"
I have apple ID but after signing into that account too, it does't allow to update. None of the updates for these application are show in software update of late, but it flashes in the dock where app store is . Kindly suggest.

Should be the account you registered your mac with, and/or the account you used during the setup assistant.

  • Why won't Numbers update free, when my other iWork apps have update for free?

why won't Numbers update free, when my other iWork apps have update for free?

I'm not sure if this answers your question. I will update them in iTunes. Then I will connect my phone and in the phone controls I can click the "Update" button and it will change to "Will Update" but doesn't.
That's part of the problem. Once upon a time, iTunes would just automatically update apps from the computer to the phone and now it apparently requires prompting that doesn't work.

  • Why does the iMovie update keep reappearing in App Store Updates although I have already installed it?

I installed the iMovie update version 10.0.8 when it became available 4/24/2015 yet it continues to appear as a new update ready for downloading and installation. How can I get rid of this, or is it even necessary to do so? In my dock, it shows that I have a new update that needs attention. I've never encountered this before.

    1. Search "This Mac" in the Finder for outdated copies of the app(s) that keep being updated. Delete any you find. Make sure the search scope is "This Mac" or you may miss some.
    2. If the search results seem to be inaccurate, rebuild the Spotlight index. If you try to search now, there will be an indication that indexing is in progress.
    3. If the above steps don't resolve the problem, back up all data, then quit each app in question and uninstall it by following the instructions on this page. Alternatively, you can drag it from the Applications folder to the Trash, and empty. The data files you created will be preserved. Verify in Spotlight that there are now no copies of the app on your system. Download it from your Purchases history in the App Store.

  • Why does the iMovie update now make it impossible to save in 640 by 480 ?

Just this week Imovie now wants to save / export my files in unusual formats instead of 640 by 480 - which is what I need to upload a longer video to Vimeo ( not Vimeo pro ) - Why has this been changed ?
( I do know that direct upload to Vimeo is possible - but sometimes I want to replace files - and that cannot be done directly )
Will this be addressed in an urgent update ?

    any other sugestions ?
That's too bad. You don't have a Time Machine or some other backup tucked away somewhere?
The new version of iMovie is a pretty complete re-write so a bit of three steps forward, two steps back in terms of features. Some may get added back with time but it's impossible to say when and if that may happen.
The easiest way to get back to what you were doing to find your self a copy of iMovie version 9. You can buy it on DVD from sites like Amazon.
Depending on what exactly you are doing you could see if QuickTime Pro 7 will do what you need.

    There's als Final Cut Pro 10, but that's a $300.
What kind of files are you trying to produce?

  • Isn't imovie is free?

First time when I purchased imac, imovie and i photo was there already,
but after I re-install the camputer, imovie app is gone.
I tried to re-install the imovie app, it says I have to pay $14.99
    why is that?

All new machine purchases include the iLife suite of apps. Apple has done this for years.
You can download your previous version from the "Purchases" section of the App Store.
iMovie version 10 is a free download for those users that have upgraded to 10.9 Mavericks and have the iMovie version 9 software installed on their machine.
If you had an older version of iMovie then iMovie version 10 is not free (except with a new computer purchase).

  • I just got my iPhone 5 number changed.. why isn't it updating?

I just got my number updated via my carrier. I got the text for it, but in the current settings:
Phone, Messages, and FaceTime.. my number isn't updating it still has my old number.. can anyone help me?

Do you mean your carrier has put a new telephone number on your sim ?
If so in UK it can take several days .you do not say who or where

  • Why isn't Apple allowing free discussion of the new iPhone?

After all, it's FREE consumer based feedback. Apple doesn't necessarily have to confirm or deny the product, but it can certainly learn from our feedback. Is there any other reason I'm not aware of?

    Number 2:
    2. Stay on topic. Apple Discussions is here to help people use Apple products and technologies more effectively. Unless otherwise noted, do not add Submissions about nontechnical topics, including:
    1. Speculations or rumors about unannounced products.
    2. Discussions of Apple policies or procedures or speculation on Apple decisions.

  • Why isn't Calculate updating the Totals fields?

i have created a multipage document. each has a column with amounts, and a total row at the bottom of the page. the first page lists checks. the second page lists only cash.
the first page has two other fields "Total Checks" and Total Cash". each is set to sum the total of the appropriate page. finally there is a Grand Total field that sums the Total Checks and Total Cash.
The problem is, the entries update the column total as soon as they are entered, but the Totals don't.
I have checked to ensure no fields are locked, and all are number-formatted. i have rechecked the calculation tab many times but the problem remains.
also, does anyone have a manual in pdf form?
is it acceptable to attach the file?
    one lemming

You just need to set the field calculation order (which is not the same thing as the tab order) to whatever makes sense for your form. Currently, it is not set correctly. Exactly how you change it depends on the version of Acrobat you're using. In Acrobat 9, go into form editing mode and select: Forms > Edit Fields > Set Field Calculation Order

  • HT4623 Why isn't it updating? Keeps saying error after about an hour into updating.

Will not let me update my operating system I've tried through my phone and computer. I even restarted my phone twice.

it could be the servers, sometimes when too many people are downloading it can cause errors at times, try again tomorrow via the iphone in a strong wifi environment

  • Why isn't apple updating time zones

Samoa has recently changed time zones, moving to the other side of the dateline. Both my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and my iPad 2 are not displaying correctly. I am going there on business for two months and need my Macs to be correct. My PCs runing old XP were correct on the day of the change!!! What's up Apple. I am embarrassed, and this could generate more than just passive complaints from people who have invested in your computers. I have checked sys updates daily and NOTHING.
When are you going to catch up?

To clarify. IANA is a part of ICAN which has the TZ Atlas. That last update was in November 2011, which did include the Samoan time change. The problem is that Apple has not incorporated that update into their regular system updates, which is the foundation of this question and the problem that most users will have. I don't mind accessing the database myself, but it should not be the responsibility of the user to do so. Wouldn' t you agree?

  • Why isn't Pages updated for Retina Display?

Currently, the only viable option is to open the apps in low resolution mode on the new rMBP.

  • Im ipad 3 and ios8 but whyi cant download imovie for free

im using ipad 3 and im ios8 ,but why icant download imovie for free? Please answer thankyou

You don't have to go to an Apple store. The iPad was bought new (and since 1st September 2013), and you are using the same account that you originally used to set up the iPad ?
If the iPad had iOS 8 on it when you bought it and it's capacity is 32 gig or larger then it should have been pre-installed on it when you bought it.
If not then try logging out of your account by tapping on your id at the bottom of the Featured tab in the App Store app and then log back in and see if the app then shows as free in the store.
