Why isn't iWork free on my new MacBook Pro?

I bought a new MacBook Pro (non-retina display) last night.  I went home and updated to OS X Mavericks.  However, the iWork apps still ask that I pay for them in the App Store.  Shouldn't these be free since my MacBook Pro is new?  HELP!  Really want to start using my new laptop.

In this case, contact with the Mac App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact If they determine that you are eligible for a free download of the iWork applications, they will give you a redeem code to get them in the Mac App Store

  • How do I install/upgrade iWork 2005 on my new MacBook Pro / Mountain Lion?

I just bought a new MacBook Pro (converted back from Windows) and installed an old version of iWork (2005) I purchased years ago, hoping to upgrade it. It didn't install properly as it only shows a folder in Finder/Apps, with a couple of docs in the folder and doesn't show up as an app for Upgrade. The guy that upgraded my MacBook Pro to Mountain Lion at the Apple Store told me this should work.
       1) How do I install iWork 2005 on my MacBook Pro / Mountain Lion?
       2) How do I upgrade it without having to purchase a new copy?
    Thanks!

You cannot link any version of iWork installed from a retail disk or trial to the Mac App Store.
You install iWork '05 on your new Mac just as you always have, making sure you have the serial number to enter. But the iWork apps are very reasonably priced on the Mac App Store & have come a very long way in 7 years. And now Numbers is available for spreadsheets.

  • Why is there no data on my new MacBook Pro after using Migration Assistant?

Last night I launched Migration Assistent between my MacBook to my MacBook Pro.  It said it would take 12 hours so I left it over night.  When it finished this morning it said that some files were not able to be transferred.  But there is absolutely nothing on my new MacBook Pro.  Why is that?
My TimeMachine backup disk has a cable that won't work with the new MacBook Pro so what other choice do I have to transfer data?

  • Why isn't iWork free on iPad mini

why isent iwork free for ipad mini with IOS 7.0.4

The iWorks apps are free on a newly purchased iOS device running iOS 7. If you downloaded iOS to an existing device, (one that you bought prior to September 2013) you have to pay for the apps.
If your Mini is new, the apps are free as long as you are using the Apple ID in the App Store that you used to activate the device. Go to the App Store and search for them and see if they show up as "free" for you. If they don't - and you do meet all of the criteria - give it a little time and they will eventually be free for you to download.
When I bought my iPhone 5S, I had to wait until the next day before the showed up as free for me.

  • Why can't I use iWork '08 in my new MacBook Pro

I have installed iWork '08, but no cursor shows up.  Must I purchase a new iWork for my MacBook Pro?  I really only need the word processor.

You can purchase just Pages using the Mac App Store for $19.99.  There are also other word processors available for OS X.  For example, Libre Office and Neo Office Aqua are free packages each  similar to Office for OS X.  These and others can be found at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

  • Can I install IWorks 9 on my new MacBook Pro along with the free version now included ?

I have IWorks 09 for my Mac desktop. I'm purchasing a MacBook Pro shortly and would like to have the same version of IWorks on both PCs. Can I install IWorks 09 on the MacBook which comes with the new version of IWorks pre-installed ? Or, can I delete the free version and install the 09 version ? I'm relatively new to Macs so this is probably a beginner question.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
New Macs don't come with iWork preinstalled. You have to download it from the Mac App Store.
What you can do is to use Migration Assistant to transfer the files you want, and include Applications, so your iWork apps will be transferred. You will be asked to transfer files from another PC or Mac during the setup of the MacBook Pro.
Then, open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and download the new iWork applications versions free of charge. By doing this, you will have the old and the new version

  • Why isn't iwork free for ipad mini on November 1, 2013

I heard that iwork and other APPLE apps were supposed to be free on November 1, 2013. When I checked on my ad mini and my iphone, it says you have to purchase it for $10. My devices' version is 7.0.3

iPhoto, iMovie, Keynote, Pages and Numbers are free on the App Store for qualifying IOS 7 compatible devices activated or purchased after September 1, 2013.

  • Why arent my books syncing on my new macbook pro or 5s

After getting my 5s I was un able to sync with my old mac book, due to old software. We got a new pro, mostly because my girlfriend needed a new computer.
Anyway, I signed into my match in ituned and all my music showed up, but my books arent there. Nor are they on my phone. They are on my OLD macbook, though.
Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone help me out?
    Thank you!
    Kevin

My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.
Secondly, this is not the place to vent. If you have a complaint, there is:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    or http://www.apple.com/contact/
We are just end users here helping other end users.
Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.
    Good luck!

  • Why is the keyboard brightness of my new macbook pro retina is behaving in an opposite manner in low light

I racently bought a 13'' macbook pro with retina display (late 2013) and everything works fine with the exeption of the keyboard brightness. when I chose the adjust function in low light it suppose to increase the brightness of the keyboard during dim light, however, it's doing quite the opposite and the brightness is dicreasing making it harder to see the letters, how can I fix this problem?

Hi BobRz, you are probably talking about the screen display which normaly dims during low light conditions, and that's true. but my concern is the keyboard brightness, it suppose to increase in low light conditions, but instead it dims to the point that i can no longer see the letters on the keyboard. I have viewed a youtube video about the normal adustment function, and mine is doing the opposite

  • Why isn't my DVD working on my macbook pro?

    Hello all.
I got my Macbook pro in September 2010 and it's still running well. I used to always play DVDs on it, especially exercise DVDs. Anyway, I popped in one of my exercise DVDs last week, and when I clicked on the CD symbol on the desktop, it would pop up to a window that would go completely blank, and it would start to make weird noises. My DVDs won't play. However, regular CDs work fine and are being recognized. Is there any way we can fix this? My boyfriend tried updating iDVD but it doesn't seem to work. Am I gonna have to take this to the apple store? I'm just afraid that they will charge me, and I don't have apple care. Help! Thank you!

iDVD has nothing to do with Playing DVDs. That is up to the DVD drive and DVD Player found in the Applications folder.
I suspect your CD/DVD drive, the Superdrive as it's called, is failing. It is able to see and read CD disc but can not see and read DVD discs.
If you have Applecare extended Warranty take it in and have the DVD drive replaced. If you don't have that extended warranty then you can just buy an External USB DVD drive and connec that when you want to watch a DVD.

  • Can't see anything in iWork 08 after installing it on my new MacBook Pro

I recently reinstalled IWork 08 in my new MacBook Pro.  I was using it on my old MacBook Pro, which my wife now has.  When I open any of the programs, everything is white. If I double click any text that may be in the file, it can be viewed as highlighted.  But otherwise everything is white.  My Keynote presentations don't display anything; no themes, no backgrounds, nothing.
Could this be becasue it is still installed on my old machine?

If you installed iWork from the disk, did you run the updates?
If you copied the app over from the old Mac you would also need a copy of the iWork '08 folder which is in Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support

  • Netflix website won't load correctly on new Macbook pro.

The Netflix WEBSITE isn't loading correctly on my new macbook pro. The < > arrows used to scroll through movies on the homepage don't seem to be working. When you click/hover over them nothing happens. Also, the title and description box that usually appears when you hover your mouse over a movie isn't showing up either...and lastly the box where you can filter the movies you want to see in a specific category "Ex. "Dark comedies, Romantic comedies, Foregin Comedies etc.." isn't showing up.
Im assuming this is an issue with either safari or the macbook itself because I don't know what else it could be. I tried clearing all cookies,
cache, and history but it didn't help. The movies are streaming fine it's just the website that messed up. All other websites seem to be working fine though.

Probably a Java issue.  Try another browser and also try loading Java from www.java.com.  BTW, the current version won't run properly in Safari, so you'll probably end up running FireFox anyway.
