Why isn't java working for me in Lion 10.7
No matter how many times I install the latest update... I need it to deposit checks at home, & am mystified.

I have been using my bank's deposit-at -home for years, it requires a scanner & JRE, so that is why I am puzzled that Java seems to not be working- since installing that awful Lion. I have the note below from the console; (unfortunately I have no idea what it means !).

So, I think my next step is to call in the computer tune-up person. I have been reading about Java vs Lion all night, & just feel sad that such a useful application is now a nightmare ( for the ordinary computer user, not the mac genius). Thank you.

Why isn't java working with safari 5.1?
I've been playing an online game lately that is powered by java. I saw there was a software update for my mac (os x lion i think) so i updated the software on my computer. Now, Java does not run on my computer, and i dont know how to downgrade to the safari software that i had before. Can somebody please help? This is really stressing me out.

After quitting all browsers and installing the dmg, Safari 5.1 still wouldn't work with it until I re-started my computer - perhaps this just flushed a cache and I could perhaps have had the same result just from flushing caches.
If Apple would only look at these threads and inform us!
But I suppose by now most of you have found this anyway. -
Why isn't Genius working for any new songs?
For some reason, none of my new music has been working with iTunes Genius. None of the music that came out in the last year has worked into Genius yet. I remember the last time something like this happened, Genius included the albums after three or four months. I didn't purchase the music with iTunes, but older music that I didn't purchase with iTunes works fine.

Why isn't PSE9 working for me?
When I upgraded from PSE8 to PSE9, I immediately had serious difficulties: Many of the tools simply stop working!
The first thing I notice is that when I launch PSE9, the icon in the system tray has a slowly blinking yellow background, which finally stops with a sorta bright yellow background. At this point, if I try a keyboard shortcut, like Ctrl-O to open an image, it doesn't work. I found that I have to click on the PSE window somewhere...this causes the background of the PSE icon in the system tray to turn grey (looks just like the PSE8 icon now)...after which keyboard shortcuts work. Any clues what PSE9 thinks it's doing here?
But that is not the BIG problem: When I get an image loaded, many of the tools stop working. Here is a list:

I have tried removing and re-installing PSE9. It will initially work on the first image, but shortly afterward, all the above stop working! I can relaunch PSE9 and that doesn't "fix" it. I can reboot Win 7 and that doesn't "fix" it. I can turn the computer off for a while and that doesn't "fix" it. There are no other programs operating strangely.
I'm running it on Win 7 Home Premium 32-bit...AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ w/ 4 GB of DDR2 RAM.
I'd appreciate any help you experts can give. I've been fighting this for 2 weeks (I got PSE9 for Christmas) and it has me stumped...No, was I supposed to?
I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Does it cause problems?
I'm on hold with CS now. During this time I have been playing to see if I could discover anything. I did...
I have tried removing and re-installing PSE9 again. When I reinstall it, the first thing up is the welcome box and when I double-click on the “Edit” bar, a 2nd PSE icon appears in the system tray…it does the 6 blinkies thing and then often, but not always, I get an error box from Win 7, which says, “Photoshop Elements 9 has stopped working”. Win 7 checks for a solution…never finds one…and asks permission to close the program. When I say “Close Program”, the welcome box closes, but PSE stays up. But it doesn’t work, as I detailed in my OP.
I’ve just discovered another wrinkle: If I create a shortcut on the desktop directly to “PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe”, which bypasses the welcome box, PSE seems to work correctly. I now wonder if that error may have corrupted the program?

Why is my router not working for my PS3, PSP, anymore and why isn't it working for my iPod touch?
I have the Linksys WRT54G wireless router, and for a while now it has worked well for my desktop computer, my sister's laptop, my PS3 and my PSP. Recently I got an Ipod touch and tried to set up my wireless connection and nothing worked, so I checked on my PS3 and PSP and they aren't connecting either. It always says something like exchanging key information, and still doesn't work. I'm getting very aggravated, I've reset the router several times and nothing. Keep in mind that my desktop computer, and my sister's laptop still works just fine, all the others devices don't work anymore. What can I do to fix this?
Upgrade the firmware on the router to the latest one and then set up WEP security on the router and change wireless channel to 11.

Why isn't Java letting me change the background color of the current panel?

In addition to commenting out MyPaint myPaint = new MyPaint() and removing the this keyword when dereferencing setBackground() in MyMouseListener , I also changed

so that the colour changes when you hover the cursor in or out of the panel instead of the button. -
I have an older iMac 5,1 and the disc drive no longer works. I was hoping that I could the Apple USB super drive as a replacement, but the info on the super drive page says compatible with iMac 2012 or later. Does anyone know why it would not work for me?
A reply to similar question (Q & As , in product page Apple Store) says:
"...dissable the internal reader hardware from devices setup. Then plug the external usb superdrive and that's it." Answered by Enrique T from Lima Oct 25 2013.
If you can locate an external Apple USB 'Air" superdrive for earlier model MacBook Air, that should work. The newer one for the Air is the same as for iMac, now.
You may be able to use other brands of external USB optical drive with your older intel-based iMac, as some of them function capably. A few should also be able to see system discs or other bootable utilities on DVD.

Instead of joining it from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed. Before I went through network diagnostics and all of that stuff in system preferences, and then I tried the "Join Other Network" method, and now it works like a dream.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list. -

Allyson, your precaution comes on the heels of me realizing that if I put a song on a blog summary page, then I will have to edit the .js file every time I add a blog entry.
Whereas MassReplaceIt could solve the problem there, the added issue of problems with comments is enough to make me stay away, so that is what I will do: No music within 250' of the blog guy.

Suddenly, I cannot sync my Boselink with iPhone. Iphone 4s says Bose sound...not connected. I JUST updated software to iOS 6.1.3. Why isn't this working? I can not play pandora on my Bose.
They are absolutely now paired after doing all you said, as I reset both the Bose Link and the Iphone. Now we have a pair, but no sound on the speaker or the iphone when they are connected. I know they are connected b/c the iphone says they are in the blue tooth setting AND the Bose has a solid blue tooth light on.
Now what? This is beyond frustrating and only happened when I UPDATED ios!

Why isn't Taiwan listed for iTunes U educational content? We have content ready, but nowhere to put it. What do we need to do to get Taiwanese schools affiliated? Asia in general is underrepresented and Apple should be pro-active and get more schools from this part of the world involved in iTunes U.
Sorry, but none of us here, who are all just fellow users, know why Apple has not yet expanded iTunes U to other countries. All we know is that they haven't. When, or indeed if, they will expand to Taiwan is unknown.

Problem: Why does this only work for powers of 2?
I wrote this program to create a golf league schedule for, ideally, eight players. However I want it to be flexible enough to permit for other denominations, such as 10 or 12. When I run the program it works perfectly for any number that is a power of 2 (2,4,8,16,32,etc...) but it will not work for other even numbers such as 6,10, or 12. If anyone has any insights it would be most helpful.

}//end WeekAh, I have discovered the problem. The reason for the infinite loop was because of the resetting of the counter/index after every successful match entry back to (a - 1). This was causing matches to be put into weeks where they didn't belong, which caused the program to infinitely loop because it couldn't find an appropriate week to place it's next match. The only time the count should be reset back to zero is when a new player A is being processed or the last valid array index has been referenced before an out of bounds exception would be thrown. I'm still not entirely sure why this doesn't occur on powers of 2 but theh again I haven't put too much thought into it having solved the initial problem! :)
