Why isn't my music playing through my headphones?

Have you tried a set of headphones that work in other devices?
To rule out a software problem try in order:
- Reset:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factoerydefaults/new iPOd
If still have a problem you likely have a problem with the headphone jack and you need to get the iPod or jack replaced.
Apple will replace the iPod for:

Third-party places will replace the jack. Here is one:

If none of the 5 R's also help resolve this problem, it's likely hardware related with the headphone jack meaning you'll need to have the iPod serviced/replaced either by Apple or a third party service.

Is there any way to keep the music playing through the headphones connected through the headphone jack, while also playing the music through a bluetooth device, such as speakers - so the audio is coming out of both devices simultaneously?

When I connect my bluetooth speakers, the sound stops coming out of the headphones (connected via the hardwire jack), and then comes back when I turn off the bluetooth speakers. I would like to have audio coming out of both...
Anyone?

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

Are you using HDMI or an Apple Airplay Module to go to the TV Speakers?
If you are using an HDMI it's straight through output. The internal speakers are disabled.
If you are using an Airplay Module:
- Go on iTunes
- Locate the Airplay icon that has a TV with an up arrow icon much like your iPhone has for Bluetooth
- Click on that and Airplay to ModuleName

Why won't my music play on my iPhone 4s?

why won't my music play on my iPhone 4s? it was playing thru the music app but now it's not playing. It show the song but doesn't do anything.

I had this issue when I first upgraded my Iphone4 to ios5. All my music appeared on my device as they always have but they would not play. I searched around online and it appears there was mention of unchecking the "sync music" check box in itunes under the music tab (when device is connected) and syncing your device. I then unchecked all my playlists and synced again then started adding back my music from scratch. After that headache - everything seemed to be back to normal and my music was working once again.

First make sure your headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning no silver from the headphones plug can still be seen.
If that's not the issue, try a hard reset of the Nano. To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

Hi,
Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.

When the Chipset driver reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu. Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete. Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again before checking.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.

Just yesterday my iPod Touch started acting weird. First it would play my music for awhile, then pause. I would hit play, then it would start playing but only through the speakers. It would then start playinh through the earphones then pause again. And then this morning my iPod started playing through both the speaker and headphones. Help!
ps- I have an iPod Touch Second Generation That Has Been Recently Restored

Try the following to rule out a software problem:

N8 Music playing through a TV or AMP

Hi, firstly I love the N8. Best purchase in a very long time. The only concern I have is with the music being played through my TV via the HDMI cable or separately through my speakers/amp via the phono jack port (headphone port). The music plays and I am happy with that but the sound seems to fade in and out sometimes. I.e gets quieter and louder. It seems the phone is buffering to output the sound. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't think this is an issue but I'd like to know why this happens? This happens on all of my music stored on my N8 being played through the port on the phone. This is the latest version. All updates are provided via iTunes. Every time you connect your device, iTunes will check for updates or show you when it will check again. This info is displayed in the summary pane when your ipod is connected.
Downloading from other sources can damage your device or keeping it from updating in iTunes after that.

IPod Shuffle (2nd Gen) - All Appears Well, but No Music Plays through Buds

I recently purchased yet another iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen), after frying the 1st one. This one synched and played well for about a month. Recently during a run it stopped playing. I assumed it needed to be charged. I fully charged. iTunes recognizes it - and displayed all my music. However, it still wouldn't play any music through the ear buds. I tried the reset (toggle on / off hold) - didn't work. I put it back on iTunes and reset it back to factory settings, reloaded it with music, iTunes still recognizes it, yet still won't play. It appears to be functioning properly - except for the "playing of music" part. iTunes recognizes it, the music is displayed in iTunes. When I turn the shuffle on the light glows green, then goes out. When I push the volume up or down - the green light blinks once for each push. When I push the skip forward or back button the green light blinks once for each push. No orange lights anywhere. But no music plays. Please help!!

Just thought I'd post to say that I'm having the same problem.
Everything appears to be normal with my shuffle: iPod syncs, all the lights are doing what they're supposed to be doing, I can see the music I put on the shuffle.
I too went back to factory settings, reloaded tunes, etc. etc. I have also checked both the earbuds I'm using (they work) and tried the shuffle with other earbuds (earbuds I tested elsewhere and which also work)... no sound.
Is it possibly related to the recent iTunes software update 8.0.2 (20)? I ran it on Friday and things were fine on my shuffle immediately after. But the next time I tried to use it -- no sound.
That update is the only change I can think of that my shuffle experienced proximate to the problem.

When using my headphones and hitting play/pause a video from my last iphone plays through them. It only does it with the headphones.

Prob should have said when I'm trying to play music it plays that video instead even if music was already playing and I paused and hit play again
