Why might our Ibook "think" its video output is a tv?

my lab uses this G3 ibook (10.3.9) for giving talks on the road & for no apparent reason it now fails to output video to an external projector...
the perference display pane is now titled "Television" instead of LCD color and it shows Resolutions in Hz for PAL & NTSC settings...
it will output to the projector at bootup but that ceases as soon at the finder window appears...
one other curiousity is that the sound panel shows sound output to earphones though none are plugged in & also shows only internal microphone as input...
HOWEVER everything looks normal from a safe boot & it mirrors to a projector...
i've zapped the PRAM, corrected permissions, trashed various display plists, and caches, etc., gone into single user mode & reset the nvram, etc, all to no avail...
any ideas would be most appreciated...

4S keeps telling me I have to switch to Canadian store to update or download Apps? I'm on Hamilton Ont??

Check your region setting:
Settings > iTunes & App Stores > tap your Apple ID: > View Apple ID > Country/Region
If it's not set correctly, change as appropriate.

Embed VLC video output into a Scene Graph

Hello,
I'm trying to embed a VLC player in a JavaFX 2.2 application.
For that I'm using the libvlc.dll library's API.
VLC provided two ways to render a video:
1. Call API function that takes HWND: +libvlc_media_player_set_hwnd (libvlc_media_player_t p_mi, void drawable)+ Set a Win32/Win64 API window handle (HWND) where the media player should render its video output.
2. Register a callback that gets called every time a frame should be rendered: +libvlc_video_display_cb (void opaque, void picture) Callback prototype to display a picture.+
With the HWND approach, I managed to extract an HWND pointer of the Scene using Glass framework, causing the video to render on the whole scene, no other nodes are visible.
With the Callback approach, and by using JavaFX 2.2 new javafx.scene.canvas.Canvas node, I was able to throw pixels at the canvas, but it turns to be very inefficient in terms of memory and thread usage.
I would love to have a solution as with AWT + JNA: the HWND can be extracted from java.awt.Canvas component (using JNA), and be given to libvlc API function. This canvas can be placed anywhere in the frame, not occupying all the entire window.
Hard Guidelines:
1. Integrating AWT/Swing with FX application is not an option, I want it to be a pure JavaFX application.
2. Using JavaFX Media API for playback is not an option, since I have a requirement to modify the media player's source code.
3. The video must not occupy the entire window, allowing other components to be visible.
Possible solution is to create my own node or control that will wrap Glass component View that has a HWND but I don't know how to bind and make it work with other Glass components.
Any help would be appreciated.

I would be interested in a solution for this as well.
I've already done a lot of experiments in this area trying many frameworks/players (Xuggler, GStreamer, VLC (VLCJ), MediaPlayer Home Cinema, DS4J, MPlayer) and it seems to be very hard to do what you ask. Best chances at the moment are to use GStreamer, which I've succesfully been able to overlay with JavaFX components in the same window (with a stiff CPU penalty though).
The other frameworks all have their drawbacks (Gstreamer as well). Most are low level which makes things like switching streams or doing subtitles a lot harder, some have poor control interfaces that donot expose enough functionality, etc). GStreamers main drawback is efficiency when using the Canvas (about 50% slower than native) but solvable by throwing more hardware at it. Also until recently its builds were not very up-to-date. I intend to soon test it again and see if I can get a fully working Canvas style solution with it.
Currently I use VLC (with VLCJ) and I play back videos in a seperate Frame, and have a second window (a Stage) that is transparent on top of it. This way I can mix JavaFX controls and a video. It is hackish and also annoying that you have to juggle two windows but it works fairly ok. This approach might also work for you if you resize the Canvas in the seperate frame to where it needs to be displayed and keep that area transparent in your JFX frame... but it is hardly optimal (but very fast since it can do direct rendering).
I haven't tried recently to mix it directly with JavaFX, but from what I read it seems possible now... but I'm pretty sure it will incur the same kind of CPU penalty as with GStreamer's Canvas :(

Your opinion - why should we (or should we not) use flash as our primary platform for video delivery?

I work at a college that is delivering courses online at a
distance. Currently, we are using a Windows Media Streaming server
as our main platform for video. We definitely want to be able to
stream, as our students are from all over the world and have many
different connection speeds - from t3 all the way down to dial up.
With Windows Media Streaming, we can configure the video at
multiple bit rates, within a single file, to address these various
speeds. The file is delivered at a speed appropriate to each user's
connection. We can also choose to force authentication for any
given fie, while still having most of our video clips available to
anyone.
We are currently evaluating our setup and looking into
various options. A lot has been said about Flash. I would love to
hear pros and cons for using flash as our primary platform. I have
heard that one advantage to Flash is that there is a way of setting
up your files, so that no player is needed. I would also like to
know if that is true. I sense that it is not - I had removed flash
from my computer, and could not play anything with a swf extension.
As I would suspect, my computer had no idea what it was without the
flash player installed.
I have also heard that the concept of streaming is inherent
within the Flash technology - that Flash files will automatically
stream in a similar manner to our current setup, where the speed
and flow of the delivery is dependent on the user's connection. Can
anyone comment on that?
Additonally, we would need a separate server, as we do not
want anything conflicting on the server where we house our Course
Management System. Is there anything to be aware of with this type
of setup?
Some of the video files that we use would need to be limited
to a certain audience - (due to copyright and contractual issues).
Is there a way for Flash to handle such issues? With Windows Media
STreaming server, we can opt to have any file require a username
and password. this requires manual addition of these credentials to
the server though, and is not a very efficient approach.

Dear friends,
As I would need to make a presentation with an eBook file I created with iBooks Author, does anybody know if the video output is enabled on iPads while using iBooks app? That would be the only way to show ay eBook live with a video projector.

Not all apps are enabled for airplay, this is up to the developer to do.

Ibook video output

does the video adapter for current ibooks require that the tv you are connecting to has an s-video connection? if so, is there any other kind of cable/accessory available that will give you either an av or scart connection - like the video adapter for the older ibooks does?

That is incorrect. The iBook G4 specifications indicate
VGA video output for video mirroring on an external display or projector (24-bit color) with included Apple VGA Display Adapter.
S-video and composite video output to TV or projector (requires Apple Video Adapter, sold separately)
You only need the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A. Also see KB 88396, iBook video output cables/adapters and resolutions.

Lowlevel video output switch controls? Modulized, why?

Well, i use Arch on my laptop. And there is one thing, which makes me wanna jump on it. The Lowlevel video output switch controls kernel module. I need this activated in order to switch between the projector and my laptop, I have my finals soon so its important this works as it should.
Would it be possible to enable this module in later pacman-versions of the kernel? At the time beeing, I would have to recompile everything my self. Which I have yet to become successful at, something is always wrong. But I`ll summarize what I would like to do:
#Build a kernel with this option, choosing it from grub at boot-time. But still have the "pacman-version" in case i mess up somethings up.
NOTE I use luksEncrypted root, does this option do anything to the kernel? Since the installer asks if you need to boot from an encrypted volume. Just asking...
Anyway, can I just download the kernel source. Run make menuconfig, activate the Low level video output switch controls. Then -> make modules_install? And then copy the kernel-version over to boot, and use it? Or what else?

hi i had the same problem today when i updated my itunes to latest version. however, i have just found my songs in the 'itunes media' folder. this was accessed through 'my music' then keep clicking through until you find itunes media and all my library songs were in there and i then just added these files to my library and all were restored however, i have lost all my playlists but at least my 700 songs are back. very dissapointed with apple that they have let this happen with their latest update, the previous version was miles better than this one . hope you find them. stevo

Why is multicam source not switching cameras on video output?

When I have a multicam source sequence loaded in the source monitor and I select different cameras nothing changes on the video output (have tried both Decklink and AJA stations). It just keeps outputting camera one.
Did something break with Premiere CC 7.1.0? Anyone else running into this? Any idea how to fix?

As far as I know, there's no workaround within 7.1. If rolling back to 7.0.1 is an option, then that should get Transmit working with multicam editing. But whatever you do, DON'T roll back to 7.0.0--in case you weren't aware, it had a gnarly multicam bug.

Why Block Video Output?

I have just purchase a brand new shiny Yamaha AV amp and Yamaha iPod dock (which was supposed to be video compatible) with the hope of using the on-screen facility to select music tracks. But oh no, thanks to someone in Apples ludicrous decision to block video output unless you're using Apple's own dock and cables I can’t!
Apple - please unblock this ridiculous restriction!

I'm not condoning it, but in my estimation this will not change. Apple implemented this to secure the video so that they could reach the agreements they have with the film companies regarding online purchasing and rentals. If the limit is ever officially removed I'm sure Apple would lose the iTunes Store content overnight. It's for this reason that the first video iPod (the fifth generation) can accept rental films.

ATV3 no video output

So, my ATV3 has been working fantastic for about 10 months streaming from my Plex to my Panasonic 50" TV, when suddenly 2 nights ago in the middle of a movie it appeared to crash with the screen going blank or black. The light was still on in the front, but no video output on screen period.
I cycled the unit several times by removing and reconnecting the power to no avail.
So, I bought the unit into work and plugged into one of our HDMI LCD 1080 screen and bang, I get picture, so thinking all good, I took it home. Oops, no video again, so I plugged the work ATV3 into the same cables and WOW, all good.
Back at work today and yes, the home ATV3 appears to work fine, but wont display a picture on my home TV?!...Its at 5.3 software (6105) and the work ATV3 is on 6.0.
There is a story with the work one, it had updated to the latest version several weeks ago, and when I had taken it home to check Plex was running on it, it too wouldnt display on my home TV, so I took it to cousins house with same brand TV and same story, NO display. Took it to neighbour with cheap TV and it worked.
Long story, I got Apple to swap my work ATV3 for a replacement which hadnt updated to latest version and yes, it worked at home etc....Thinking that it was a software issue, I have kept my home ATV3 from updating, however now that it has crashed, Icant get that working either, only the replaced work unit works..
same cables etc...yet no image...
Any ideas?

Try replacing the hdmi cable or plugging the existing hdmi cable into a different hdmi hole in the TV..
One of those might produce a good result.
Typical reasons will be electronics will get worse over time, and will introduce noise, performace issues.
But that is a best guess. go try and see how you go.

Why is my iBooks textbook so large?

So we have been developing iBook textbooks at our offices for for a few months now. It's a great software and our company is really happy with interactivity of the books. However, we are using video now inside our iBooks and I don't understand why the books are turning out to be such huge files. Unfortunately, we cannot link our books online right now, as we would like to keep the movies contained inside the textbook. But what really confuses me, is this:
- after all of our videos have been converted into .m4v format, the combined size is about 1 GB
- one block, with several videos, turns out to be 750 MB (in the largest case). This book doesn't even incorporate one third of the videos.
The only thing I can think of, is that our books are developed so that several videos are reappearing in different pages. That is to say, a video that appears in page-one, might also appear on page 3, page 7, and page 10. So perhaps, as opposed to indexing the videos in the back end, and then pointing those files to the appropriate page, I have a feeling that iBooks is copying new instances of the same video file for each page. Can anyone give me any idea if they know this is what's going on? This is the only thing I can imagine that would make our books so large. And, if this is happening, does anyone have a workaround so that if we have the same video on multiple pages, it won't copy multiple video files - instead iBooks will be smart, and grab the one indexed file to be used in multiple pages?
I'm praying someone can give me some insight, because no one at the Apple store or anywhere else has been able to give me any satisfactory information regarding this, and we really need to bring the file size of our iBooks down.

One long repeating beep and no video output

Sometimes when switching on a system build with KT6 Delta , I get one long repeating beep and no video output. The problem usually is solved if I unplug the monitor cable from the vga card and plug it in again. Still, I am thinking why does this happen since the cable seems to be connected fine?

1 Beep: DRAM refresh failure
Explanation: The system is having a problem accessing the system memory to refresh it. Refreshing is done on all system memory to keep its contents active.
Diagnosis: This code usually means a problem either with the system memory or with the motherboard itself.
Continuous Beeping: Memory or video problem
Explanation: The system is producing constant beeping in no specific pattern, or a fast "ringing" sound.
Diagnosis: This is usually caused by a problem with the system memory, or possibly the video card. The memory is more likely--the system complains long and loud if it can't find any usable memory, as there is no way to even start the boot process when this is the case. The motherboard itself could also be the problem.

Why does my Gopro black 3+ video look so bad on PRE11 while editing & after DVD creation playback.

Well let start with. When I do a project with video from my Samsung S4 phone or my IPhone 5 or my Canon T4i looks great on computer screen and when I play back a burned DVD or AVHCD. I just directly import from file on my hard drive. My Samsung is at 1920x1040 30fps mp4 . I believe the IPhone is a 1920x1080 MOV format.
It is the GoPro video that PRE11 has a problem with. I record at 1920x1080 30fps. Nothing special.
First the computer screen. On both of my computers when I right click on the playback screen.
Quality Highest; Magnification Fit; Safe Margin unchecked; Playback External device None; Aspect Hardware; Desktop Audio; 24Progresive Conversion Interlaced 2332; Export External Device DV 29.97 720; Checked Disable video output.
As for Publish. DVD I use preset NTSC widescreen dvd; AVCHD h264 1920x1080I ntsc.
Any other ideas why the GoPro video looks bad on computer screen & on dvd on hd tv.
Some say you first must convert GoPro mp4 to AVI then import. That seems crazy. Why can Samsung mp4 work great and GoPro mp4 not.
It seems that Adobe has not correctly written code for MP4 from on of the largest camcorder producers.

Premiere Elements 11. Are you working with the H.264.mp4 format or are you working with a Cineform.avi format? If it is the H.264.mp4 format, I am not seeing why you should be doing anything else but importing the H.264.mp4 into Premiere Elements 11 using the project preset set by you manually or the project automatically. Best you set the project preset manually to assure the correct project preset in this case.

There are times when the project does not interpret correctly the properties of the video when it is the first file dragged to the Timeline. When it does not do it correctly, it does not give you the closest possible fit between project preset and properties of source media, instead it gives you its default 1080i which is not appropriate for your 1080p footage.

To get a better perspective on your comparison between your cell phone and GoPro results....are you saying that you can take the videos from the cell phones and import them into Premiere Elements 11 without issue, audio out of sync or other? Are you converting the cell phone video at any time - to change a variable to constant frame size or other?
Depending on your details, I would offer to look at a sample of your specific H.264.mp4 file for which you cannot get a decent DVD-VIDEO on DVD or AVCHD format on DVD disc. If you opt to do this, you might consider sending the sample via a Dropbox link posted in this thread. I am concerned that your GoPro issue on Premiere Elements 11 is going to get lost in this thread on a different topic. If we do not gain ground on the issue soon, please consider starting a new thread on your issue so that the details and especially the results will be found more easily by those users seeking answers for the type of problem that you describe.
