Why might WLS 9.2 installer say "Insufficient disk space!" on OS X w/122GB?

hi all,
i just installed tiger about a week ago onto a brand new 128 GB internal hdd. apart from some upgrades (10.4.9, java 1.5, xcode docs, etc.) the only other apps i've installed are eclipse 3.2 development ide & mozilla. that left me with 122 GB available on my hdd (as reported by "Get Info").
today, i tried to install BEA WebLogic Server 9.2 (a j2ee application server). the installer for wls 9.2 comes as an executable jar file that must be executed from the shell. i executed the following command in the shell:
$ java -jar server921_generic.jar -log=/myhome/logs/wls92mp1_install_02_0507.log
the installer gui loads, prompts me for the license agreement, some install folder locations (i told it to install to "/Users/myhome/development/bea"), etc. then, it reports:
"Insufficient disk space! The installer requires: 5MB for the BEA Home at /Users/myhome/development/bea and 270 MB temporary work space at /tmp/bea30536.tmp. There is only 271MB available at /."
ONLY 271MB AVAILABLE!!? how can that be?
so, i tried directing it to install to "/Applications/bea". i also started the installer with an option to use "/Applications/tmp" (which i created with mkdir) as an alternate tmp directory. this time with "sudo" - just in case:
$ sudo java -Djava.io.tmpdir=/Applications/tmp -jar server921_generic.jar -log=/myhome/logs/wls92mp1_install_02_0507.log
this time its:
"Insufficient disk space! The installer requires: 5MB for the BEA Home at /Applications/bea and 270 MB temporary work space at /Applications/tmp/bea30537.tmp. There is only 271MB available at /."
what gives? on my solaris box, i can do "growfs" to expand the space available to a filesystem. is there some way i can do something similar on os x? or is there ANYTHING else to give "/" access to more of the 122 GB hdd space that is obviously available?
thanks in advance for your help.
p.s. there are no disk quotas or anything like that:
$ sudo quota
Disk quotas for user root (uid 0): none
$ quota
Disk quotas for user me (uid 501): none
i also ran repair permissions, just in case. same difference.

  • Why does WLS 9.2 installer say "Insufficient disk space!" on OS X w/122GB?

    hi all,

    hi,
please take a look at "[url http://forums.bea.com/bea//thread.jspa?threadID=400003593&tstart=15&mod=1178464358368]HELP: Which command line args to launch Workshop 9.2 on Mac OS X 10.4?"
to summarize that thread: the generic installer does not come with workshop 9.2 or portal 9.2 because they are not supported on aix, hp or mac os x. weblogic server is not supported on max os x at all.
that thread also explains how i was able to get workshop 9.2 installed and running on os x:
"...i happen to have a working installation of wls & wlw
on my sun microsystem's sunblade 100 with solaris 9
    (installed using bea's solaris_sparc-specific .bin
installer; which _does_ come bundled with the wlw ide).
so, i copied the wlw-related stuff (everything in
    $bea_home/workshop92 & everything in
$bea_home/common/eclipse) from my solaris box to the
appropriate folders on my mac..."if you have (or can get access to) a working installation
of workshop that has already been installed on another
supported os, then you'll need to copy the
    workshop-related stuff from the supported os to your mac;
like i described in the above thread. you'll need to keep
in mind that there are some os-specific plugins that come
with the supported versions of workshop; you will need to
replace those with their mac-specific equivalents.
if you click on my username in the top left-hand corner of
this post, you will get a list of posts i've made recently
that detail my experiences getting weblogic server 9.2 and
workshop 9.2 installed on mac os x. if you can
follow along with the info in those threads, you will
learn everything that i know about the subject. good luck.
let us know how you get on?

  • Photoshop Installer Error "Insufficient Disk Space" but I have more than enough.

I am trying to download the Photoshop CS6 trial. My computer has 2 hard drives, one is full but the other has plenty of space. Yet when I try to install Photoshop, and set it to save on that hard drive, it's not working and says that there's insufficient disk space when there's more than enough on that one. Photoshop tells me I require 1 Gb, I have 600+ Gb, I don't know why it's giving me this proiblem. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I've reinstall the Download Assistant several times, I was sure to assign it to the correct hard drive. Same for installing Photoshop. What else can I do to try and solve this problem?

  • TCS 5 Installation Problems-"Insufficient Disk Space"

I've been subscribing to TCS 5 since May.  Recently, I upgraded to a newer MacBook Pro, and I've installed a copy of Windows 7 and I'm running it using VMWare Fusion 6.  Today, I finally downloaded the TCS 5 files from my profile.
I ran into a problem when it came time to install the suite.  I tried continue the installer beyond the "pick a destination folder" step, but when I clicked the "Next" button, a pop-up appeared and said "Insufficient Disk Space," and it suggested increasing the disk size and trying again.  I increased the disk space of my virtual machine from around 60 GB to 128 GB.  I tried the installation again and no luck.
Has anyone found a solution?  Do I need to increase my virtual machine's disk space further?  I can't seem to find anything that would allow for a workaround to this problem.  Any advice will be a big help to me, as I really want to start using these programs.

I called tech support just now and he suggested that I try installing on my physical hard drive, rather than a virtual one.
However, while running Boot Camp could work, I don't want to reboot my MacBook constantly to change between operating systems.  Also, now that I've used my Windows 7 product code once, I don't think I can reuse it.  I'd have to spend more money to obtain another copy of Windows 7.
Could I download the files to another PC, install them there, and then put everything on a flash drive to take back to my virtual desktop and run the programs successfully?

  • Can't import photos from camera -"Insufficient disk space on volume"?

Please excuse my ignorance if there is a fix for this that I haven't found here.... I reinstalled iLife '11 yesterday because iPhoto would not recognize the camera. Now it recognizes the camera but it won't import the photos. I've tried all the suggestions, trashed the cache, the preference file, restarted, created a new library and I still can't import the photos from the camera to iPhoto because it says "insufficient disk space on volume." I have plenty of space on my hard drive. I can import through Image Capture but why go the extra step when importing to iPhoto was so very easy before? Can anyone help with this?

This has been reported - not sure if there ever was a solution or not - search the forums to find the threads
you can try renewing the iPhoto preference file to see if that helps -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Insufficient disk space for SunStudio 12

    Hello,
I am fairly new to Solaris (was on Linux before) but anyway I tried to install SunStudio 12. Prepare went well but when I ran install script:
    *./batch_installer -p all --accept-sla*
    or even GUI installation:
    *./installer &*
    there was following report displayed:
    Installation failed: insufficient disk space.
Then i did df -kh to check disk space and got output as follows:
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c0d1s0 4,6G 4,4G 98M 98% /
    /devices 0K 0K 0K 0% /devices

    /dev/dsk/c0d1s7 33G 1,2G 31G 4% /export/home
Then I tried to redirect installation to /export/home just to test what report will
be now. There was same report again regardless of *31GB* of available space.
So, am I missing something here ?
Any idea would be welcome. Thank you.
    Josip

I think the problem is that there is not enough space in / filesystem:
    /dev/dsk/c0d1s0 4,6G 4,4G 98M 98% /
It has only 98 Mb free. By default Sun Studio is installed at /opt, which is a directory in / filesystem.
I'd suggest you to extract Sun Studio Express from the tar.gz file. You can download it from this page:
    http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/downloads/express/index.jsp
Extract it somewhere (say /export/home/ss12), set PATH and run compilers and tools.
    Thanks,
    Nik

  • Macbook SSD insufficient disk space??

I have a Macbook with a 256gig SSD drive. Currently it has 170gig remaining, yet the Adobe CC installer continues to give me a message that says "Insufficient disk space. Please clear space on untitled and try again (-30)"
What is "untitled?" I have no disk labeled untitled. Is there some way that I can just download the apps by themselves and start using them? This is kind of a huge problem that I have this license but can't use any of the applications .
    Thanks in advance.

Have you at somepoint followed som optimisation advice and moved you temporary directories into a ramdisk?
if you type df -k into a terminal window and see that /private/tmp and /private/var/ run show as mounted filesystems
then that would be the case,
If so there is probably an entry in /System/Library/StartupItems  (man e was a directory called RamFS) which I removed and rebooted,
then the only disk available was my named ssd (not the untitled thet the installer was unpacking into)
    Good Luck
    Cheers Ian

  • HELP! "Insufficient Disk Space Remaining in the Capture Scratch"?!

    Please Help Me ASAP!
im not like lierally dieing but i do need help urgently with Final Cut!
I am trying to capture my video from the camera and the message pops up that says "Insufficient Disk Space Remaining in the Capture Scratch".
    So I have 2 questions:
    1) What does it mean
    2) What do I do to fix it?
im cluless here guys! any input asap would be so greatly appreciated! thanks
    Ben

It means that you do not have sufficiant space on your scratch disk to capture your video.
What have you designated as your scratch disk? Which drive? Get Info on that drive to see how much space you have available. When you Capture, your Capture Window will give you info on how much space your drive has, and how much video (in time) you put on it
The solution is to get more space. Like clearing stuff off your drive or getting a new one
If you are capturing video to your system drive, in other words, this is your scratch disk, this is not reccomended. Designate another drive, either internal or firewire external as your scratch disk.
For more info on the scratch disk and how to target it, consult your FC manual and online help

  • Aperture: "Insufficient Disk Space" alert with 370 GB Free

    Hello,
Since I use aperture on Mountain Lion, it's unpossible to import big folders anymore.
The folders named "2012" is on my network and has 7 400 files (560 GB). I import it with option "In Their Current Location", so, it's no copy nor move. After checking, computer says : Insufficient Disk Space. Need 100 GB more". But HD is 370 GB free and pictures aren't copied/moved to my HD !!!
With snow leopard, I don't have this prob, but Aperture update are no more available for SL.
I work on a IMac with 4GB RAM and HD 500 GB with a Mac Server of 15 TB.
    Any suggestion ?
    Etienne
Aperture 3.4.3 on Mountain Lion 10.8.2

    Ernie,
    1) Aperture library is on the internal HD with 370 GB Free. FS is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The linked picture stays on a Mac Network fileserver with afolder per year. I make test with folder 2011 and folder 2012
    2) With LR, I don't import library from aperture but I import picture from folder 2012. And it's fine. LR library stays on the same HD/same partition than Aperture one.
    3) If I remove big TIFF file (273 MB) from 2012, it's OK.
    4) If I try to import 100 big TIFF File it's NOK : "Insuffisant disk space..."
    5) If I try to import 10 big TIFF File it's OK to import but zoom 1:1 gives a little picture.

  • Insufficient disk space. Please try and clear up space

I'm trying to install CC apps from the cloud app, but it keeps telling me about insufficient disk space on "untitled". I don't have a drive by that name, and there is 25gb free on my main drive I am trying to install them on.
It's getting really frustrating as it has happened before with Adobe manager tools.

It's a macbook pro 15" from 2011 with 16gb ram and 250gb SSD. The issues is that I have 25gb free space which is more than enough to install Photoshop and Illustrator CC as I just had them as CS6, but when I try to install them from the CC tool, it says insufficient disk space. I had the same issues with the old adobe download manager and I had to install the cs6 from trial versions. Problem is that I can't get CC as a trial version to install with my full license.
I don't install all CC apps, and I know I have plenty of space to install the 900mb PS and AI takes.

  • Trying to load photos, get message Insufficient Disk space

When I try to import pix. get a box saying Insufficient disk space. Iphoto cannot load images not enough free space on the volume containing your iphoto library.

Well that shoots that theory. Next,  reboot your Mac and try the library again just to see if rebooting helped.
If still not working launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If you get the same message with the new, essentially empty library then the problem may lie in the iPhoto application. If you get no message with the new library the problem is with your library.
If you don't get that message with the new library you'll have to start over with a new library.  First open your iPhoto Library with the Finder and check inside the Originals folder to make sure your photos are still there.
If they are there do the following:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects. Your old library will still be available for further attempts at resurrecting it.

  • I recently re-loaded iphoto, and now am unable to upload photos from my camera - saying there is insufficient disk space

I recently re-loaded iphoto, and now am unable to upload photos from my camera - saying there is insufficient disk space. does anyone have a solution?

Assuming you have space on your disk, then it could be a symptom of a damaged Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD

  • Why am I getting a message "Insufficient Disk Space"

I installed a new hard drive yesterday, and used Time Machine to restore all the information from my old hard drive.  Today I tried to open iPhoto and had a message that it was not found so I used the install disk for iPhoto and reinstalled.  I have my former iPhoto Library, but when I try to import new photos from my desk top, I get the message "Insufficient Disk Space" "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there is not enough free space on the volume containing your iPhoto library".  I don't understand since I have 354 GB available on my hard drive. What do I need to do to fix?

That's an indication that the library is damaged. Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
