Why must a dynamically linked Premiere timeline be open in order to see it in After Effects CC 2014?

I am having a problem I don't think existed before.
I have an After Effects project with two different Premiere timelines in it. I red the dreaded red screen of "media offline" unless I open the timeline in Premiere. Which is odd, because I don't remember this being the case. As I recall in the past, if you import a Premiere pro timeline (not a project, but rather import as footage) then you didn't use to have to have that same timeline open in Premiere in order to see it in After Effects.
Aside from this annoyance, my problem is that I'm using two different timelines from two different Premiere project files. So I can't have Premiere open twice. I shouldn't have to render out the timelines and import them as actual footage into After Effects in order to make this work. Or I shouldn't have to import one Premiere timeline into the other and relink one of them in AE.
Is this occurring for anyone else? Any work arounds or (preferably) fixes?

We can't know anything. You have not provided any system information or details about your project. By power of deduction it stands to reason that firing up Premiere initializes a specific CoDec or hardware driver required to handle your footage, but otherwise there is nothing anyone can say about the matter.

  • Dynamic link - premiere pro to after effects

    Hey,
these days, premiere pro's dynamic link suddenly stopped working. I tried many things, like reinstalling premiere pro, allowing everything explicitely in the (windows 7) firewall, changing the names of my project etc.
It stopped working means that 'replace with adobe after effets composition' and 'edit clip in audition' are both greyed out, just as File -> dynamic link is greyed out.
It is not greyed out in After Effects though, and I can import a premiere pro sequence from there. Just if I save the result and import it in premiere pro I can look at it, but not add it to a sequence (?).
Also I found that in the dynamic link folder there is a link to Premiere Pro CS4 (??) which I never had. I am using CC.
Any idea on what's going on and what to do?
    thanks

So after reinstalling all the Ap did it fix the dynamic Link issue? What was the solution. It appears that avanishdivya
gave some bad advice. I can't find any other threads that are discussing this issue except http://forums.adobe.com/message/5571320 and this didn't work for me either.

  • Why is Dynamic Link between Premiere Pro CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014 not syncing audio changes?

When I try to use a Dyamic Link between something I've cut in Premiere and a composition in After Effects, if it is simply an audio level change it will not update in AE.  Only if I alter the Video track does it then take the changes reflected.  Any suggestions as to what is causing this?
Running Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and After Effects CC 2014.

As Dave alludes, AfterEffects is all about the visual changes ... or at least, mostly. For changes to the audio outside of PrPro's internal controls, highly suggested you use Audition instead. It is all about the sound ... and yes, will update PrPro when used correctly.

  • After Effects CC 2014 - removal of H.264, MPEG-2, WMV, FLV, F4V, and SWF exporters - WHY !?

While reading the features of AfterEffects CC2014, I noticed the following:
"removal of H.264, MPEG-2, WMV, FLV, F4V, and SWF exporters from After Effects"
    THAT IS IS REDICULOUS!!
    NO FLV !?!?
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT USERS TO IMPORT INTO FLASH ??
IF no FLV export is available under After Effects CC 2014, there is NO WAY to EMBED an flv into flash !! (Linking is NOT always what is wanted!!)
    NO H264 !?!?!
    HAVE YOU GONE CRAZY ?!!?!?
    YOU BREAK WORKFLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    THAT IS REDICULOUS!!!
Any chance of restoring such features so that it makes updating to it worthwhile ?

To date I've primarily been a Photoshop user and have dealt with years of mystifying UX and workflow changes, features that are useless to me added, and critical ones taken away (I'm looking at you Bridge, you worthless piece of garbage).  Then, to add insult to injury, Adobe forum mods telling me I'm doing it wrong and should be jumping through more hoops to achieve the same results. Now, with AE becoming a bigger part of my work, I am sad to find, that the same culture of disconnected arrogance and myopia prevails on the AE dev team.
"Oh um user, you really want to be going through AME, because um technically speaking there have been many problems with the H.264 and MPEG-2 exporters in After Effects"
Oh really? Tell me more about my job. Tell me about my experiences exporting these formats directly from AE. Tell me how my client views my content, is it on a Mac, or a PC? Maybe it's on his phone, or her iPad. What kind of phone is it though? Tell me at what point in my process it's ideal to render. Tell me about other tasks I'm performing. Tell me about the resolution and the bit-rate my files should play at. Tell me the final application I will be using the footage. Probably broadcast right? Or is it web? Or is it PowerPoint? Wait, what if there is no final output? What if it's just pre-vis for some other application?
Tell me how to win over my clients; what's the correct method of presentation to engage them most impactfully? Tell me about how much time I have to render massive video files. Is it more time efficient due to the nature of my composite to render once because my file is super shallow and will render quickly or is it more efficient to render twice because my file is extremely complex with hundreds of layers?
That the deprecated formats were hidden away in the preferences menu is dumb and annoying. That this same preference would then be removed is despicable and petty and is further confirmation that Adobe has contempt for me as a user.

  • After Effects CC 2014 why did you remove "middle click pan"

A few days ago I updated the After Effects to 13.1.0.111
I started having some problems after update. Most notably problem is middle click pan dos not work. Why did you remove this usefull tool?

The After Effects CC 2014.1.1 (13.1.1) update fixes several bugs, including this one. Let us know how it's working for you once you've installed the update.

  • Why does my Premiere CC 2014 crash every time I use "Adobe Dynamic Link" and have After Effects CC 2014 open in the background?

    Here are my MacBook Specs:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
480 GB Solid State SATA Drive
    750 GB SATA Disk
I use "Adobe Dynamic Link" mainly for typography and some animation, but not to the point where it would stress out Premiere CC 2014.

    Chris,
It doesn't crash for everyone.  A person could be forgiven for saying, in return, "Please sort out your **** system problems".
Trust me when I say many, many problems are caused by the computer system setup not being up to the needs of this cutting-edge graphics software.  Photoshop is heavily dependent on the GPU, and GPU drivers are notorious for having bugs (they're primarily written to run games).
However, that being said, recent driver releases from both ATI and nVidia do actually work pretty well with Photoshop CC 2014.
What video card do you have?
What display driver version are you running?
If you're unsure how to tell these things, go into Photoshop, choose Help - System Info, copy the data, and post it here.

  • Dynamic link premiere to after effects doesn't send clips to after effects timeline

This option has always worked for me but al of the sudden it stopped.
I tried to restart after effects and premiere but that didn't work neither did restarting my computer.
    HELP ME

You can export a Premiere Pro project from After Effects, but the results are usually pretty messy. Because of the different way in which tracks in Premiere and layers in After Effects work (ie. you can have multiple clips on a single track in PPro, but only one clip/item per layer in AE), you can end up with an unmanageable number of tracks in Premiere. Still, it's an option to explore.
Note that AE-only effects won't come through to Premiere, and certain project items will be recreated in a way you might not expect.

  • Erratic performance / missing footage with Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC 2014 dynamic links

    Hi all,
I briefly touched on this amongst a host of other issues I has having while cutting my last project.
Unfortunately I never heard anything from anyone regarding my issues with the Dynamic Link system.
I had to bite the bullet and export (2-4K RAW) chunks of my last project, out of premiere using a Quicktime animation codec. This added an extra week to the post production process (which I did NOT get paid for).
I'm also a bit frustrated because it pushed the project past the deadline. Though the client was understanding, they were far from thrilled and it reflects poorly on me.
Anyhow. Project complete, on to the next-
This time, I'm using mostly footage shot from an FS700 in AVCHD. I figured maybe the RED footage was somehow too much for the program to handle with my specs, however I am having the same issue as last time.
I'll select a clip, or group of clips, go to replace with after effects composition, and sometimes they all make it, and often times they don't. The clips were shot within a couple minutes of one another and no settings were changed on the camera.
I've noticed sometime's the media will show up in the timeline, but not appear on the monitor (as pictured below). Other times the name of the clip will appear in the comp, but there will be nothing on the timeline OR in the monitor.
Never had this problem in CS6.
Adobe or anybody, please help! This is absolutely killing my workflow, and costing me time and money.
    Here are my specs:
    I'm running Adobe Premiere CC 2014 v8.1
Freshly installed Windows 7 Professional SP1 PC Desktop
Freshly installed Samsung 1TB SSD running my OS and Adobe CC
    Intel Core i7-2600k CPU at 3.4GHz (8CPUs) - Watercooled
16GB Ram (3gb allocated for other programs)
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 570 4GB GDDR5 - 3.40.62 Drivers installed
Pulling media from 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM drives, striped at RAID 0
In this case pictured the second two clips in the sequence linked into AE, but the first wont show up in my monitor.

    Thank You, Jim -
Unfortunately that specifically did not work.
Based on another comment sent to me, here is what did.
    In PProCC
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > New After Effects Composition
    In AECC
From that composition created from PPro, I imported the project (aep) initially created in AECC from another team member. Saved the file.
    Back in PProCC
File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Import After Effects Composition
    Magic.

  • Dynamic Link Premiere to Encore CS4

I'm under the impression that each time you export from Premiere to Encore you have to start a new project. Am I correct? The only way to get your Premiere edits into Encore is to be in Encore and use the procedure =  File > Dynamic Link > Import from Premiere.  I have completed this step an I see  in my Encore Project Window a Premiere sequence, but it's not the current edits I did in Premiere. Form Premiere I do a File>Dynamic Link>Export to Encore routine. It creates a new project. I check the timeline in the new project and it is the updated edits I did in Premiere. But I can't get the updated edits into my old Encore project. How do I get my new Permiere edits into Encore project.

No, not correct.  But it is a bit hard to find in help.  someone added this comment on the help page below:
Director Jones: Just drag sequences from Premiere project window and drop into an existing encore project (or) Open your existing encore project and try "File->Adobe Dynamic Link->Import Premiere sequence" option.

  • Media Encoder 2014 - Dynamic link Premiere/AE - refresh problem

    Hello,
I'm working on a edit with AE compositions into Premiere linked by the dynamic link. When i change something in AE it's updated in my Premiere timeline as expected.
Now i want to export my edit to Media Encoder. But sometimes the export doesn't show the last change in AE !
The only way i found to get this AE change in the Media Encoder is to quit Media Encoder and send again my edit.
Is there a easier solution ?

Kevin, the link work different whether you send from AE or load the comp into AME.  ie you can see the full path to the original comp when you load direct to AE.
Ideally for the items loaded direct into AME there needs to be a right click "reload updates from last saved AE file".  Now that would be expected behavior

  • After Effects CS5.5 will not open a Dynamically Linked Premiere Pro sequence in the comp. window

    Hi all,
I'm trying to export a Premiere Pro sequence which is in 2K and the footage has been shot as RED 5K. Adobe Media Encoder will simply not work as I am having the quite widely discussed issue where it will just 'hang' at certain points and not complete the export.
The most popular solution to this problem is to export via the Render Queue in After Effects instead. However, therein lies the problem.
I go onto After Effects. Choose File -> Dynamic Link -> Import Premiere Pro Sequence.
The box pops up, I choose the Premiere Pro Project File then select the sequence I want to export. It then appears in the After Effects project panel window like so:
However - when I try and drag this to a new composition window, one of two things have happened. Either A) nothing happens (literally, NOTHING changes) or B) as the following example shows, it seems to add it to a new composition, but the video is entirely black. I have tried rendering it and it just produces a black video.
The other thing people seem to suggest is to just import the entire Premiere Pro sequence into After Effects. I've tried this, but any titles I have added in PP force the video to fade out then back in, in the place where the title should be?? So I can't export the video this way either.
    My system is as follows:
Thanks massively in advance for any help that is provided!

This is months old but I'm now having the same problem with AE and Premiere CS6 after updating last night: Dynamic linked sequence shows up in the project window in AE and even plays video if previewed, but will not drag or alt-drag into any comps, including a new comp (makes a new comp with matching settings, but empty).
Furthermore, I do actually have an earlier version of the same sequence placed in one of my AE comps, which I think was done using the same steps just prior to updating the apps last night. Did this break?
I'm a little concerned since the biggest reason I'm trying to use premiere is to eliminate the exports when adding graphics in AE.
