Why must Bonjour start?

According to the notice which appears when one tries to start itunes and Bonjour isn't running "bonjour required for sharing music, playing music through air tunes speakers, & connecting to apple tv". Ok, I can read English. What this message doesn't say is "Bonjour is required for itunes to run on anyones' computer". I have nothing enabled for sharing music, no air tunes speakers (for all the itunes app knows, I'm not playing anything, just downloading), and I don't have apple tv.
All 3 stated conditions for which Bonjour is necessary have not been met. Yet itunes will not open unless I start Bonjour.
What is up with that? Why is itunes lying? Why aren't they upfront about Bonjour being a mandatory co-program necessary to run itunes? For that matter, if apple insists on Bonjour being necessary to run itunes, why then don't they simply write Bonjour into the itunes code?
Apple does tend to do things on the shady side, obfuscate actions and sequences. Why the displayed message which has no basis in fact (that itunes won't open unless Bonjour is enabled, regardless of whether you are running any of the programs mentioned)? Why can't apple just be straighforward?

I no longer use XP (I'm on Vista Ultimate), but when I did, I did not even have Bonjour installed and everything worked fine. Now, just as a test, I disabled the Bonjour service on my Vista box, and iTunes started up just fine (though the message to which you refer was displayed).
Are you sure you do not have your library set to be shared? You should review all of the preferences to ensure they are all set as expected. There may be another issue with your PC. When iTunes does not start as expected, have you looked at the task list to see if iTunes is running, just not displaying itself? Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling iTunes? What version are you running? Perhaps upgrading to the latest version will resolve your issue.
Apple is not lying - Bonjour is not, in fact, required for iTunes to start. There is obviously an issue with your PC or your iTunes installation.
And, as far as Apple answering posts - they do occasionally post responses (rarely in the forums I frequent, but occasionally), but this is a user-to-user forum. I don't know if you've noticed the number of forums hosted here, but it is unreasonable to expect Apple personnel to look for all unanswered questions in each of the forums.

I have a mac hooked up to an hp printer. i installed bonjour on my windows 7 laptop and it was able to install this printer via bonjour. yet when i click print on my laptop, nothing happens. on my mac, the printer queue doesn't open up and my printer does nothing.

Regarding #5, you shouldn't have to take any kind of tour to use the program.
If there's a problem with your Photoshop.com account, like if it's full, it can cause issues like this with the Welcome screen. Basically, there's an error dialog displaying, which basically "freezes" the Welcome Screen, but the animation is appearing on top of the error so you can't close the error. (In a lot of cases, you can press Space bar and it'll close the error.)
To get beyond this:
Open Editor (from Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe) or Organizer (from Program Files\Adobe\Elements Organizer 8.0\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe).
At the top of the application, you'll see something that says "Welcome Ed" (or just "Welcome" with the name tied to your account after it). Click on this.
When the dialog pops up asking for your password, don't enter it and instead click Sign Out.
You should then be able to start the application in the usual way without having to sit through the animation.
If this works, then it likely means there's an issue with your Photoshop.com account. If you don't use it, then just don't sign back in.
If you do use it, though, then you'll want to find out what problem there is. The most common thing I see is that you're account has filled up. In any case, just log into the Photoshop.com website and you should be able to discover the issue quite readily.

I have a windows 8 pc that has Office 2013 Home and Business on it. When your log on Outlook will start up and only show reminders and then a min or two later it closes. I cannot figure out how this is happening and why when it starts it only
shows the reminders. I've search in all the run keys in Registry, looked in task scheduler, looked in programs->startup and look in startup apps in task manager. I cannot find what is causing Outlook to start on this machine. What's even more
weird is that it closes a few mins later. Any suggestions?

What kind of reminders window? Is it the reminders window which pops up when there is an upcoming appointment? Would you please provide a screen shot so that we can understand this issue more clearly?

I don't know - but I am having the same problem and have not had any useful help from Apple Support. Everything they told be to do has been done and it hasn't fixed the problem.

If you made a full catalog backup using the organizer's backup command, and you did it to a removable drive, yes, you can restore it to the mac. A backup made on discs will not work, though.

Why is En start transcoding if it just told me that I do not need to?

have HiDef footage that I edited and exported from Premiere CS3 to Encore CS4 using the BluRay High preset.
NTSC, 1440x1080, 23.976 [fps], Progressive
PCM Audio, 48 kHz, Stereo
VBR, 2 Pass, Target 20.00, Max 25.00 [Mbps]
Premiere asked me to save the file and it exported the file as .m4v for video and .wav for audio. Once AP finished transcoding it opened the Encore. Both files are shown untranscoded under the BR Transcode Status column. I transcoded the .wav file, but when I try to transcoded the .m4v file I get the following message:
The file you about to transcode is already legal for Blue-ray. Transcoding will affect its quality.
I click cancel in the dialog, but when I try to build a blue-ray folder Encore starts building with transcoding the .m4v file.
Why is En start transcoding if it just told me that I do not need to? Is there a setting I am missing?

Are you sure it's transcoding the .m4v? I have on numerous occasions had Encore CS4 start to transcode the audio that I had just finished transcoding. I seem to have a bug whereby Encore 'forgets' it's audio transcodes, and has to redo them. Could this be happening to you as well?

Why Java Web Start doesn't support Pack200 out-of-the-box? I was hoping that Java 6 would make things easier by adding direct support for Pack200 in Java Web Start and JNLP without needing to use servlets, etc.? All my clients are Java 5 or above so I can't push the Pack200 compressed version of the jar to every single one of them and there is no selection process needed. But I can't do it because of the servlet or complex Apache server setup requirement (it would be a headache to get customers' web server admins to set up Apache or whatever web server that way).
My question is why is there unwillingness to add Pack200 support directly to Java Web Start and JNLP so that you can start Pack200 compressed jars just like you would start any jar using Java Web Start? Is te a technical problem?

Why must I return a device I own?

I have a device I have had for 2 years and am NOT on the edge program. Why must I return it if I want to upgrade early on the edge? I can understand going from edge to edge but I OWN my device and it is NOT on the edge program currently.

If you have had the phone for 2 years as you say, you DON'T need to return it if you want to go on Edge. You say you want to "upgrade early", though, which means you HAVE NOT had the phone for 2 years. If you want to keep your phone, simply complete the contract you agreed to before switching to Edge. Then you DON'T have to return your phone when going on Edge.
Yes, you may OWN your device but Verizon OWNS a contract you agreed to in order to get your phone at hundreds of dollars off the retail price of that phone. Verizon is simply making you trade the item you own for the item they own. You don't want to make the trade, simply complete the contract and you won't have to.

I'm building a complete interactive website in Fireworks CS5 using Master Pages, States and Behaviors for some neat interactivity on the mockup.
My question is why must the number of states be equal on all pages? I have a Master Page with a simple rollover effect on all the links, but on the Profile page I have a popup where you can insert tags. To create an interactive popup on the Profile page I need a couple of states for that popup on the Profile page. As soon as I add more states to the Profile page it loses the content from the Master Page, even if I tell all the layers in the Master page to "share on all states", when forcing the Profile page get's disconnected from the Master page.
There has to be a simpler way of doing this!

There is no way of doing what you want in Fireworks. It's not an HTML editor and can't generate more than rudimentary interactive objects. To create more sophisticated interactive objects you need have some knowledge of coding and use software like Dreamweaver or Flash.
