Why must we pay for 3.1.2?

I'm getting fed up with these expensive firmware updates. I understand the switch to 3.0, but there's nothing terribly new with the "features" added in the new update in 3.1.2. Can someone please post a convincing argument for why we're forced to pay 5 dollars for bug fixes?

Early adopters always pay more.
If you want to argue that it doesn't make sense to have to pay for updates (especially for things like cut-and-paste that should have been in the initial release), I'm with you, but if you think of a touch as a small computer, 10 bucks for a major OS update is pretty small.

Regarding #5, you shouldn't have to take any kind of tour to use the program.
If there's a problem with your Photoshop.com account, like if it's full, it can cause issues like this with the Welcome screen. Basically, there's an error dialog displaying, which basically "freezes" the Welcome Screen, but the animation is appearing on top of the error so you can't close the error. (In a lot of cases, you can press Space bar and it'll close the error.)
    To get beyond this:
Open Editor (from Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 8.0\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe) or Organizer (from Program Files\Adobe\Elements Organizer 8.0\PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe).
At the top of the application, you'll see something that says "Welcome Ed" (or just "Welcome" with the name tied to your account after it). Click on this.
When the dialog pops up asking for your password, don't enter it and instead click Sign Out.
You should then be able to start the application in the usual way without having to sit through the animation.
If this works, then it likely means there's an issue with your Photoshop.com account. If you don't use it, then just don't sign back in.
If you do use it, though, then you'll want to find out what problem there is. The most common thing I see is that you're account has filled up. In any case, just log into the Photoshop.com website and you should be able to discover the issue quite readily.

iCloud does not provide general file storage or backup, so you cannot back up your Documents folder using it. You will need to find a third-party alternative - this page examines some options (some are free):

iCloud at basic level, with 5GB is storage, is free: you only pay anything if you want to increase the storage space.

Must you pay for an app a second time if you want to use it on both the ipod and the ipad?

Not as long as you sync with the same iTunes account. The iTunes terms allow you to use that App across as many devices as you own, using the same iTunes account

Why do I pay for AppleCare and phone malfunctions in approx 60 days and I get charged replacement fee. Isn't this just a bait and switch scam to cheat customers?

Here are the US Applecare terms:

If the damage was determined to be accidental damage from handling, it explains the fees.

  • IPhone "cannot restore backup" at about 75%; why? And why am I paying for this?

I'm trying to restore my iPhone 4S.
After logging into my account it starts downloading my backup. At what is roughly the 75% mark, a message pops up saying "cannot restore backup". It takes about an hour or so to get to this point.
I have tried to do this three times with my latest backup. I just tried a fourth time using a backup from earlier this month and the same thing happened.
Is the backup too big? It's 42.8GB.
I should note that I'm using a very stable broadband connection.
It really makes me ask the question; why am I paying for such trouble? (you don't need to answer this question )
    Updated:
Looking at my broadband usage shows that only about 3GB of the backup is downloaded with each attempt, so I'm guessing size does not matter (in this case).

Maybe you could supply us with more details about what exactly you are doing, how you are doing and what you are using to do it.
The reason I say this is because you are in the forum for Adobe Reader which is a FREE application and not a service.

  • Since iOS8 my iphone 3GS no longer synchronises with my two ipads and my laptop.  none of the many suggested solutions work.  i rely on my phone to work as it did before for  medical reasons.  i did not ask for this to happen.  why must i pay?

as my iphone used to remind me when to take my medicine wherever i was i could trust apple and its products for use.  i can no longer do this and mourn the loss of freedom of movement i had prior to iOS8.  i have spent days and days following advice and suggested remedies without success.  i see no other solutions than buying a phone that will sync with iOS8.  but why should i pay to repair damage to the system i have relied upon done by someone else?  is it in fact legat for anyone to do this to me, or anyone else?

I cannot check any recorded version of any telephone call. You are referring to me as if I am an Apple employee. That could not be further than the truth. If you took the time to read any part of where you register for the forum, this is a user to user forum. I am a user just like yourself.
You made the statement that you use your phone to create a reminder to take medication. A 3GS phone is incapable of running iOS8, so that has nothing to do with it. I asked if you have iOS8 on your iPads, which you fail to identify, and avoid the answer. And where does the laptop fit into this, since it does not use iOS8.
If you were to identify the problem you are alleging, then someone might be interested in helping. You do not indicate your issue except to say about an inability to synchronize between devices. And I do not appreciate your assessment of my character.
Let me be precise: You are not addressing Apple, no one can determine what has happened to your devices since you do not describe the issues, and it is not up to users to determine responsibility. I suggest you contact Apple again, as you state you have done, and take up the issue with them.
    I'm through.

  • Why should we pay for software updates

i know that nokia has turned to providing software updates on the internet. But based on my experience if someone has to update their firmware and is not under warranty they hav to pay for the update !
wait a second, i payed(read : invested) in a nokia phone and it dint even work properly for one straight day & to sort this problem(which started by me doing nothign but buying a nokia phone) i have to PAY for an update!
this means i as an investor am wrong? i should not buy nokia phones?
    YES
because as a corporate business nokia doesnt have the decency to correct their own mistakes.
    This is unethical business practice.
PS: i bought N73 from dubai and am in uk as of now, so cannot use the warranty to get a free update- but cmon its not my mistake that the software has bugs, nokia should take its responsibility.
    i regret buying a nokia

Nokia do sell phones all over the world, this is correct. But one thing you miss here is that they do not sell the same phones all over the world.
Phones sold in the US are for the US market, so this could mean they are CDMA in design, use such technology as BREW etc. Phones sold in the middle east and in APAC will also cater to the needs of this area, such as chtml and imode as well as different menu structures and character sets in the phones font.
Creating a support network that can repair a damaged phone or updgrade a faulty phone anywhere in the world would be a bad thing. For one thing, the cost. If such a service existed this would be passed on to the end user, this would mean customers in the US who never leave their country would be paying for the support services (even if never used) for a customer in China who regularly travels to Austrlia and may need a firmware update or repair done anywhere in between.
The only thing Nokia really needs to address is hardware repairs. It would not be beyond the realms of reasonable to have a hardware repair service at premium for imported phones (people travelling could wait until they arrive home or mail back to their country). However the update system that Nokia now has in place on the Internet and OTA simply means you do not need to go into a shop to update your phone. You either connect to your pc or just start the update from the phone itself.
One final note, no one pays for the update, you only pay for the service. This is why OTA updates are free (apart from the data charges) and so are Internet updates (apart for the monthly charge etc) Message Edited by karym6 on 15-Dec-2006

  • Why must I pay to repurchase GarageBand in the App Store when I had it preinstalled on my computer?

I've been a long time GarageBand user and when I upgraded my old MacBook to the Mid-2012 MacBook Air 2 years ago I was happy to find GarageBand already pre-installed. Just recently I found out that an upgraded version of GarageBand is available. I just think it's silly to pay for something I've been using for years... Any way to get around this?
Currently running GarageBand '11 Version 6.0.5 on OS X Yosemite.

Currently running GarageBand '11 Version 6.0.5 on OS X Yosemite.
First of all, you do not need to upgrade to the new GarageBand 10.0 version. Your current version GB '11 is working well with Yosemite.
The newest GarageBand 10.0 is a very different GarageBand version and not a free update but a major new upgrade. It is more like Logic than the previous GarageBand version and offers new features like Midi Draw, smart instruments (drummers), arpeggiators, amp designer.
Other features have been discontinued, like Podcasts or sound effect instruments.
If you want the new GarageBand 10, you have have to buy it. It is only free with a new Mac.
If you decide to buy it, don't uninstall your current GarageBand, because you may want to be able to use both versions. GarageBand 10 can use the loops and instruments from the previous version, and you may need them to be able to open your previous projects.

  • Why must you check for null first?

    Post Author: sliese
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
Hi All -I am a bit confused.  If I have a record selection formula like this:isnull({Product.Size}) or ({Product.Size} <> "xlrg")I realize that the null condition must come first in order for nulls to be included in the recordset.  But, I don't understand why.  Even if it can just be explained away by saying "that's a bug," isn't this being done by the dbms anyways?  I thought the dbms looks at your SQL query strings, retrieves the appropriate records, then sends them back to Crystal.  The dbms should give us the null values whether or not it comes first in the or condition.  Am I missing something?  Does crystal do some additional processesing after the records are retrieved that causes it to throw away all the null value records? Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this issue for me.-Stephanie

Right, I realize null values always return false.  Which is exactly why I don't understand why it has to come first in record selection criteria.  In other words, this works just fine:
    isnull(field) or field <> "xlrg"
But, this does not, even though they are equivalent:
    field <> "xlrg" or isnull(field)
When the DBMS first sees that I've checked if field <> xlrg, this will be false, thus it SHOULD go to the second criteria in my OR condition to determine whether or not to include the record.  But, it does not seem to do that.  Instead, it decides not to include the record at all even though the second part of the OR condition may still return true.  Does my wording make sense now?
