Why my 10.4.3 upgrade from 10.3.9 went so well...

I believe I owe my success to the following Utilities:
SuperDuper! (Cloner) & iPartition/iDefrag (Partitioning 'on-the'fly'). Also I learned plenty from this Forum: I made the Tiger partition 25GB (my Panther system had used a max of 12GB).
First I cloned a back-up copy of Panther onto a second internal disk. Then I made a clone of my Panther production system w/ iPartition & SuperDuper! on the same internal disk as my production Panther. Next I applied the Tiger install disks (came w/ 10.4.3) onto that clone using Archive & Install. Only went to the Previous System folder once (for pagesender FAX app). All other 3rd party apps work fine.
Of course, I used Repair Perm & Disk Warrior before and after each system change. The 'extra' space allotted to Tiger WAS necessary... it used almost 17GB for the full system where as Panther used 12GB. The Tiger System folder is 2XTimes that of Panther. The User/Application space is the same.... but there are some other bumps in size here & there...
That reminds me: Is there any OTHER 'delocalizer' app like Bombichs'? It was great to zap out the unneeded printers, foreign language fonts, etc... BUT, it *may not* work in Tiger.
I hope the extra 5 GB will be useful!
So far Tiger is faster; runs VPC faster; and is as solid as Panther... so far!

You don't need to have Lightroom 3 and 4 installed on your computer to install Lightroom 5. Just install Lightroom 5 and input your serial number for 3 in the previous version box and your serial number for 5 in the upgrade box.

If your contacts are not syncing with any external service, meaning that the contacts only exist on the iPhone, you may be able to take advantage of a particular iOS backup limitation. Your backup does not contain all of your contacts*, so if you restore your iPhone and reload your backup, that may skim off the contacts that were loaded, but that of course may contacts that you want to leave on the iPhone. I wonder why Adobe does not offer upgrades from single products to packages.

I am strictly a hobbiest with Photoshop, I wish i was going to school to get the school versions but the fact is I am not,
I purchased my CS5 extended directly from adobe's web site paying full price. I use it almost daily to basicly play, I make things for people in 3d games, I create thing just for the heck of it, i try to do what other people are having issues doing on forums just to see if i can figure it out but mostly I play around and learn. I learn all kind of tricks and wonderfull effects by the real pros. The fine folks That post on these forums and other websites. All thats nice and all but the fact remains I am just a novice artest.. that plays around for the joy of creativity and nothing more.
Now comes the dilemma, I was thinking about playing around with some of the other products Adobe offers and open up my creativity further. Thinking the master collection would give me access to many many things I have never played with. Now $2600 is a lot of money to throw at something that well is not my job, i don't make any money on and its strictly a hoby for me, But hobbies being what they are cost money too so I was considering it none the less since I already put out 1000 on Photoshop.
The issue is, there is no upgrade path from a single product to a packaged product. So even tho I just paid $1000 for the full version of CS5 extended directly from their website, if I would like to get the master collection, rather then say a $1600 upgrade to master, I would have to pay the full $2600 price for it. They offered a 15%, $390 discount, Thats nice and all but $390 is $600 short of what I paid for the software to begin with and i really don't need 2 copies of photoshop cs 5 extended. I don't think its transferable the original licence, maybe it is .... anyway. Adobe keeps very tight reigns on their licencing its not like they could not upgrade or void the original licence and issue a new one for MC especially for online sales.
Just does not make any sense to me not to offer an upgrade path from individual componants to larger packages. Even Microsoft has package upgrade paths online so they track the licencing...

Be aware that if you get a collection, you are locked in to upgrading the entire collection when the time comes, you can't upgrade just one application. I skipped CS3 for that reason (not enough new features in every application), and will likely pass on CS5 (due to the economy).
In my opinion, the best deal is the Production Premium, if you're willing to give up Dreamweaver (and InDesign, but Illustrator can take care of a lot of that). I personally use the Design Premium collection. I started with the "Creative Suite Premium Collection", but Adobe phased that out, but offered an uprgarde path from that to the Design Premium. I actually received that as a gift, and the person who gave it to me always asks, "Do you use that software a lot? It was expensive, you know."

Why are files divided with upgrade from old mac to mba?

I transferred all my files and applications from a MacBook to a MacBook Air running Lion about two months ago. I ended up with a divided system and can only access some files on one side and other files on the other side. Each side is password protected.
How do I dissolve this partition without losing anything?

Hi Marsha,
I feel like we might be using the word "partition" in the wrong context here, so hopefully you can elaborate. In computing terms a partition would indicate a physical (or software) based division of a storage solution, such as your hard drive. For example, Boot Camp partitions a hard drive to create an OS X and a separate Windows environment.
What it sounds like you're experiencing is you have two different user accounts, one that was on the MacBook Air (prior to the migration) and then a separate user account that was brought over from the MacBook after the migration?
Is that correct? Be happy to help with additional clarification.

Photoshop Elements is not in the upgrade path for Photoshop. If you just purchased Photoshop CS5 it was not done thru Adobe... they do not sell older versions of their software.

I just recently upgraded from a 4S to a 5C. I backloaded the 5 from Itunes and now everytime i plug into itunes, it asks if I want to set up as new or restore from a previous backup. Why is it doing this. I did it twice yesterday.....

I figure that either of those options will result in losing all SMS and data created since the last backup. Not a major loss, but ** annoying when nothing has changed and the time it will take to restore.
When was the last time you synced your iPhone with iTunes since the backup is updated as the first step during the sync process?
Is there anyway to recover this WITHOUT having to do a full restore or set up as new?

If I do restore or set up as new, how do I know it's not going to do the same thing tomorrow (like a few other forums threads I've read indicate might happen)?
There is no way to know for certain but I've never experienced the same in the first place. I venture to say having to do this is the exception rather than the rule.

Wanted to work on the websites while and travelling, so I copied all the domain info from myc stationary mac to a USB, ready to put into my new friend..

So there goes that plan into pieces... How to I fix that case? Buying an old ilife and try to intall it?

That will work. The latest version of iWeb does run on Lion (with a couple of quirks).
But be aware that iWeb is clearly a dead end; fixes/updates/improvements are highly unlikely, and it may quit working with new versions of OSX (possibly even future updates to Lion).
If you're using MobileMe as a host, that will stop in June of 2011, so you'll have to move your site elsewhere. You can still use iWeb with it; a few changes are required on the Site Publishing Settings page, of course, but they're pretty simple. And a few features won't work, but there are workarounds for them.
I recently moved my iWeb site from MobileMe to GoDaddy, and it was relatively painless.

Why can't I upgrade from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3? My MPB spits out the disk before it ever appears on the desktop. The Snow Leopard disk is brand new, was still in shrink wrap until I opened it. I do have the hard drive partitioned, running Win XP with Boot Camp, if that might be the issue.

I have a 2002 model Powerbook that will sometimes (most of the time) refuse to mount a CD or DVD. It just grunts for a while and then spits it back out. When this happens, I will slap the bottom of the machine several times with an open hand, not too hard and not too soft. I read this somewhere online (I forget where), and I was hesitant to try it, but it was cheaper than replacing the SuperDrive.
This will often allow me to insert and use the CD or DVD. I have also noticed that I have less trouble when the machine is cold than when it's warm.
I've not had this trouble with my MacBook Pro.
Another thought. Would it be possible to boot your machine in target disk mode and update your software using a friend's Mac? I'm sure there are others here who can better answer that question.

What I have found is that when I upgraded from PSE12 to 13, my Lightroom 5.6 still selected PSE12 in the list of external editors. I had to use the preferences menu to select the right PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 13 folder. I got a message stating that Photoshop Elements was already selected as external editor. In that message box, there is a button with the option to 'change anyway', which I did. Now LR correctly opens PSE13 when I choose Edit in Elements.
