Why my AE CC looks so ugly?

Hello,
I saw a tutorial on Youtube and AE apperance was like that.
Mine is so ugly like this.
I'm using windows. Is it the reason for that?

Yes. Menus and dialogs are drawn using the operating system's functions and they simply are different on a Mac vs. Windows.

  • Why does Linux Firefox look so ugly compared to Windows?

My Windows Firefox, which I am using now, is simple and beautiful. The menus are nicely tucked away, tabs are shiny and sharp-edged (unlike the childish curved Chrome tabs) and help is at hand in the form of a big, orange "Firefox" button. Switch to GNU/Linux(Jolicloud) and GNOME, and the menus are back, the tabs are bubbly and the original design that went into Window's Firefox has all but been replaced with the default theme. Why?

In the "Toolbars" section of the "View" menu you can turn off the menu bar to enable the Firefox button, though it's not yet as pretty as the Windows version.

  • Why does my 24fps look bad on my TV?

I just got the Panasonic AG-HMC150. I have shot some footage at both 1080p24 and 720p24. I transcode the files to Pro Res in FCP and they look pretty good, I realize the panning isn't as smooth as 60i. I drag one of the files into the FCP timeline and let it automatically "optimize my settings" for the sequence. I have verified that it is 23.98fps and field dominance is none. I have tried selecting "share" and going straight to AVCHD from FCP, and also taking the original MTS file, and Apple Pro Res and dropping into Toast and trying that way. The footage just looks choppy, jiddery and unsmooth. I have seen enough movies in my life to know that when they pan, or have cars drive by, that movies 24fps looks a million times better. My Sony HDTV even accepts and displays 24fps, and when I press info on the TV remote when watching one of these AVCHD discs it in fact says 1080 (or 720) 24p. It just looks bad. Even taking the HDMI output from the camera and hooking up to the TV and playing from the camera looks lousy.
What am I doing wrong? I know a ton of post work goes into Hollywood movies, but why does their 24fps look nice and smooth and mine looks horrible? Do I need to render with pulldown in FCP or something. I can't figure it out. Any advice, suggestions?

I transcode through FCP to apple pro res, the files shows up as 1920x1080 24fps. Field dominance is none. I edit the video and then export as quicktime movie using current settings. The Pro Res file says 23.98 when played in quicktime so I know that's good. I simply then drop the file into Toast (10.0.4) and burn blu-ray disc, selecting DVD as the media. I noticed too I need to change the field dominance under the encoding tab in Toast to progressive, as automatic doesn't work. It only burns the top half of the image. Regardless, when I make these discs and play them on PS3, my TV's info says 1080/24p. Maybe my eyes aren't use to seeing 24fps. Does it sound like I am doing anything wrong in my workflow/encoding process.
Again, good tip on the shutter speed Jerry.

  • My UI preferences are set to identical settings in Illustrator and InDesign, why don't they look the same?

My UI preferences are set to identical settings in Illustrator and InDesign ("scale to lower supported scale factor") and AI looks perfect, ID is too big. Why don't they look the same if the settings are the same? Driving me CRAZY. I have my windows scaling factor at 124% and it needs to stay enlarged, otherwise nothing else on my system will be readable. The inconsistency of the workspaces is so annoying.

    Hello billwoodard11,
Thanks for the question. If your computer is not compatible with HD 1080p content, you should receive a prompt stating so - but should still be able to download the content for use on other devices. For more information, check out this resource:
Purchasing and viewing HD videos in iTunes - Apple Support

How to purchase, download, or view HD 1080p content
iTunes 10.6 by default is set to purchase, download, and playback HD content in 720p. You must change your local preference setting if you prefer to download, purchase, and playback HD content in 1080p. Depending on your computer's hardware configurations, you may be unable to purchase, rent, or playback content in 1080p. iTunes may display the following dialog:
    On Mac or PC
Download the latest version of iTunes. You can download iTunes for free.
From the iTunes menu, choose iTunes > Preferences > Store (for PC, choose Edit > Preferences > Store).
Next to "When downloading High Definition videos, prefer:" set your preference to 1080p1.
Click OK. Now, when you purchase or download HD content, your computer will always download in 1080p, when available.
Depending on your computer's hardware limitations, you may be unable to purchase, rent, or view HD content from the iTunes Store. If you are trying to view HD video on an external display, the display must have a digital connection (DVI, DisplayPort, or HDMI) and support HDCP.
Check out the following resource for information on downloading past purchases, including information on playing purchases on Apple TV:

  • Why do my images look washed out...

Why do my images look washed out after I have worked in Photoshop CS6 and saved them in Finder? I have been a Photoshop user for a while now and have never experienced this problem. It started 2 months ago and no one can seem to tell me why or how to fix it. I am a professional photographer and I have clients waiting on their images but I can't send them looking as horrible as they do. My workflow is: drag and drop an image from iPhoto or Finder to Photoshop. I change things like levels, contrast, image size and use the healing too. Then I save to Finder so I can upload to dropbox or to website or burn to a DVD. Now when I save the image the thumbnail looks washed out, without color and looks horrible!!! I don't know if my photo files are corrupted or ? If I open the image in Photoshop or Bridge it looks fine. I would be grateful for any suggestions or explanation. Things were working just fine, but not now.

Examining the image direct from the camera of the child on the beach, using http://regex.info/exif.cgi  there is a small embedded thumbnail (with black bars top-and-bottom to letterbox it to the LCD aspect ratio), and a small preview probably used for zooming in on the camera LCD screen, and the fullsize jpg image all contained in the one JPG file.  All three of these seem to have identical histograms other than the black-bars causing a dark peak on the thumbnail image, but otherwise the shapes of the histograms and the position of the peaks from light to dark are the same.
In other words the full-size JPG and the embedded preview and thumbnail all seem the same other than size so the darkened version seen in Finder is not coming from the camera.  The one issue the above website reports is that the camera JPG has a color-profile tag (name of the profile) but does not actually contain the color profile, itself.  All other versions of the image have an actual embedded profile not just the name in a tag.  It is possible that this is confusing Finder into assuming a different profile or gamma curve for the image that sRGB warrants, but most all camera images have this issue so I wouldn't expect a Mac to show images from all cameras as too dark.
It is a mystery to me why the Finder preview looks darker, but at least in the one side-by-side provided, it does, and is different-looking than all other representations of the image from what I can see.
At the beginning of this thread you said you were worried the photos coming out of Photoshop were washed out and had bad colors.  From my perspective, what comes out of Photoshop looks the same as what comes out of the camera, so only Finder has it wrong.  Are you seeing the darker image anywhere else besides Finder (and perhaps iPhoto which we don't have a screenshot of)?
Most importantly does the image you see on screen in Photoshop, while you're making adjustments, look dark like the pre-PS Finder thumbnail or does it look lighter, like the post-PS Finder thumbnail and all the images on DropBox?
If more than just the pre-PS Finder thumbnail is darker then you may have a monitor calibration issue that needs to be addressed, otherwise just ignore the pre-PS Finder thumbnail when evaluating if the image needs any adjustments and assume they are all ligher than the Finder image.
BTW, I tested for a sRGB vs AdobeRGB mismatch, and if an sRGB image is assigned an Adobe profile then the colors become more intense but the whole image does not become darker so that can't explain what is happening.

  • HT204088 Why can't I look at billing information on my iPad ? I don't have a computer ?

Why can't I look at my billing information on my iPad?

I don't really understand what you are asking.  There is no iTunes Player.  iTunes on your computer is not the same as iTunes on your iPad/iPhone/iPod.  On an iOS device, iTunes is just a store, where you buy music, rent or buy movies.  The music you have in your iTunes library on your computer can be synced to your iPad and you choose what music you want to sync to your iPad while your iPad is connected to your computer in iTunes.  When you are not connected to your computer via iTunes, any music you did not sync to your iPad will not be viewable in iTunes, thus it can't be played because you did not sync it to your iPad.  I don't I can make this any clearer.........

  • Why do iPhoto folders look different on iPad?

Why do iPhoto folders look different on the iPad?  When I launch the Photos app on the iPad you get a list of photos and photo albums that I have synced from my laptop.  All is fine.  However...
The photo albums are in a different order.....I can't see name or tag data with the folders .... impossible to search for specific pictures by name......Mainly, the entire interface is so different.  Instead of simple vertical list of photo albums (as on the Mac or the iPhone, iPod,  the iPad presents you with an array of those graphic-image photo piles -- the ones where the first picture in the album is shown on top, etc.
Does this bother anyone else? Anyway to make photos and photo albums on the iPad more closely resemble the photo/album list you see on the Mac?
    David in KC

The Photos app on the iPad is just a basic photo viewer and isn't as sophisticated as iPhotos on the Mac and has limited functionality. Third-party apps will probably give you more of the functionality that you mention, but you can't change the Photos app.

  • Why is my calendar look like a blank book?

Why is my calendar look like a blank book?  The calendar format is not showing up just a blank book?

Quit the calendar app and restart the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can try this as well if quitting the app does not work.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

The reason its ugly is becoz of the font rendering. Follow the wiki as others suggested. You shall see a significant difference.

  • Why does this text look a little different in Firefox?

Look at the difference between Firefox's text and Konquerors. (Firefox is on top, Konq on bottom)  Firefox's is rather... ugly; konquerors is how the site is supposed to look.  Why is that, and how can I fix it?  Firefox looks fine on pretty much every other site except that one, but I go there often and the text looking like that is bothersome haha.  It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to fix if I can but I don't even know where to start.

Firstly, I too think, that Firefox displays the page in a better way. Tahoma is amongst my favourite fonts.
ConnorBehan wrote:Why is the (5656 viewing) part only in the Firefox screenshot?
Easy explanation. He displayed both pages shortly each after, this is why under Konqueror there is one more posting. He is using Firefox as his primary browser I guess, therefore Konqueror has him not marked as logged in. Only logged in users have the information displayed, how many users are viewing some particular subforum.

  • Why does my PDF look so CRAPPY when I print through acrobat???

I have been having troubles with exporting a PDF from an Indesign file.. when I printed the exported PDF from acrobat, text was printing out very pixelated. I was exporting the file in indesign as a press quality pdf. The text looked fine when I viewed it in acrobat and zoomed in, but when I printed it out it looked very pixelated and not as black as it had when I had printed the file directly from indesign.
so this is what I've figured it out so far... I was exporting to PDF in indesign then opening it in adobe arobat pro and printing from there... for some reason when I went into my advanced print settings in acrobat, it was set to "print as image: 100 dpi." I changed it and it printed out better but not perfect. To double check it was adobe that was causing the issue, I opened and printed the pdf through mac preview. This looked perfect - - exactly like it did when I printed through INDD.
So my questions are, 1> WHY does it automatically printing as an image 100 dpi in adobe? and 2> how can I change this setting so when my client opens it up, they dont have to mess with any of the print settings to get it to look how it's supposed to? Is this a setting I can change when I save the file? I want to make sure it prints out correctly because one of the fonts used is ultralight and can look very very light if printed incorrecty. It looks perfect when I print through preview, but even printing as an image in 600 dpi through acrobat pro, the ultralight font looks lighter and more faded than it should (and than it does in the preview and INDD printed files). If i unselect the "print as image" checkbox, the ultralight text looks better but still not perfect. So that would make my second question >> WHY is the print quality worse when I print through adobe, and how can I remedy this? Any ideas??? Any help much appreciated!
**using acrobat pro 9.4.6 on mac osx 10.6.8

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.
