Why my iChat AV only work with Mac not PC

I've been use iChat to communicated with my parents for couple year. (I have a PowerMac G5 with external iSight. They have a PC and runnning AIM 5.9 version.) Everything works fine until recently I purchased a 15" MBP. I always got "User did not respond" whenever I try to connect with PC from the MBP. So, I did a test on Mac to Mac with my sister in-law. It works fine with her. What is worng with the new MBP? Now I always have to go back to my G5 when I need to talk with my parents. It really bothers me that my new computer isn't working. I am going to sell my G5 soon. I need the MBP work with them. Does anyone knows what can I do to make it work with PC and Mac both? (I have a Comcast Cable at home and I don't know anything about the modem..., small apartment with Airport Express. Both computer are pretty close to the Airport.)

As Rj says it will be useful to know your set up.
However we are likely to send you to this site at some stage

We use it for reference only in the first instance.
After you have found your device you can click on it in the list.
This choose iChat from the next page.
It will then show a page that will tell you the default IP and user ID and Password you will need to access it in a web browser.
When you get this far it can be a question of loking at all the pages.
You will certainly need to look at any Port Forwarding (Virtual Server/Pin Holes) pages and tell us if there is any setting.
Also look to see if you have UPnP as this is easier to set up.

  • Why does Antenna reception only work with cover off?

    Like so many others I did the memory upgrade to 2Gb on my core duo and lost the antenna connection. It snapped back on to the main connector near the rear, and now everything's working as expected. However, when I put the cover back on the wireless reception fades away... Any suggestions?

    I suspect that's a factor related directly to the casing in effect working as a shield against the signal. Very unhelpful, but not entirely untypical of the experience of Airport signal with Mac minis.
    If the lower signal is more noticeable than it was, it suggests the antenna is not firmly connected, or hasn't been positioned quite right. I'd take the top back off, disconnect the antenna again, check the card is firm and then reconnect after ensuring the connector is clean.

    Can anyone explain why viber works on my iphone nomatter if im in a wifi hotspot or in the middle of no where, yet my wife has to be in a wifi hotspot for it to work on her iphone? we both have 3gs iphones, both running os4.3.

    Hi, i have an ipnone 4 and im with Optus 3G. Viber is only working for me (send texts and make calls) ONLY when im on wi-fi. If im not connected to a wifi connection it will not send any texts or make a call. If i try send a text it turns into a red dot with an exclamation mark near my comment and then it comes up with a message saying "An internet connection is required to set up Viber. Check your connection and try again. The request timed out."

  • Why does CUBE EFFECT only work with 1 photo?

    If I want the cube effect with a slideshow I only get the effect 1 time? I've tried all different ways - no go... anyone know the answer to this? I want a group of photos to rotate everytime they change.

    Sal - I know how it's supposed to work Dude but it doesn't! It works on the first one and the rest just change but NO CUBE. I've been using Macs for years - I know a lot but this one is puzzling? Have you tried it? Does it work for you? I may need to find the preferences file and trash it 'eh? where's it at?

    My mic suddenly stopped working in some apps. I can use it just fine with FaceTime and Skype. It does not work when I use my Phone, Siri, Safari, and Voice Memos. I did a full restore and have the latest version of iOS.

  • Why does my sound only work with my head phones?

    I recently discovered that my iPhone 4s has not been functioning the way it should be. My sound and speaker are not working. I can't even adjust my volume unless I have my headphones. I can't hear my incoming calls and they can't hear me. This happens every so often and its been happening for the past two days. Is there anyway of fixing it? My phone is no longer under Apple's warranty. Please help.

    Try inserting and re-inserting your headphones 7 or 8 times. Also try cleaning out the headphone jack in case of debris that might be interfering with the connection/disconnection.

    If I run the following query against my database it runs absolutely fine
    SELECT * FROM
    LOAD
    WHERE ((catsearch (WILDCARD_SURNAMES, 'BRUCE', '') > 0)) AND PARSED_FORENAME1='ANTHONY'
    But if I replace the "AND" with an "OR"
    SELECT * FROM
    LOAD
    WHERE ((catsearch (WILDCARD_SURNAMES, 'BRUCE', '') > 0)) OR PARSED_FORENAME1='ANTHONY'
    I get an Oracle error
    ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
    DRG-10849: catsearch does not support functional invocation
    DRG-10599: column is not indexed
    I don't understand this, why can't I use OR?

    The optimizer has chosen to drive the query from an index on parsed_forename1 or by doing a full table scan.
    This causes it to try to invoke the ctxcat index in "functional lookup" mode - effectively saying "does rowid XXX match have the word "BRUCE" in WILDCARD_SURNAMES?"
    However, CTXCAT indexes do not support functional lookups, so this is impossible.
    The solution is to use a hint which persuades the optimizer to always drive the query from the CTXCAT index.
    I know this is kind of messy, but our developers tell me there is no simple way to tell the optimizer that such as call is impossible (or infinitely expensive).

  • Broadband only working with iPad not laptop

    Hi
    I'm hoping someone can help! We had issues with our broadband and an engineer fixed our line and it's all been good for 3 weeks. Suddenly tonight both laptops cannot connect to the Internet but the iPad can. The laptops are showing they can connect to the hub but not through to the Internet.
    Can anyone shed any light?!

    Can't sign in using any 3rd party email client with my iCloud account on any Mac or any other Mac. My iCloud will only work with Mail.app. All the clients I tried work perfectly well as long as I sign in with somebody else's iCloud account. But mine won't work no matter the client (Postbox, Unibox, Airmail...) and no matter the computer.
    I can access my account on iCloud.com, but I can't use email clients without getting error messages prompting me to check my password or login.
    I was able to use those clients in the past but a couple of months ago I got logged out of Airmail and the issue started just like that!
    I tried every possible mail server settings including the following:
    IMAP information for the incoming mail server
    Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 993
    Username: The name part of your iCloud email address (for example, emilyparker, not [email protected])
    Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP information for the outgoing mail server
    Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    SSL Required: Yes
    If you receive errors when using SSL, try using TLS instead.
    Port: 587
    SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    Username: Your full iCloud email address (for example, [email protected], not emilyparker)
    Password: Your iCloud password

    Those are the correct settings, and they work with any email client that supports Imap.
    Try again.

  • Ipod Classic 160 6th g. doesn't sync w/Imac g5 non intel OS 10.4.11. This is a replacement for same ipod which was stolen recently. That pod worked fine with Itunes 9! Now this pod says it only works with Itunes 10.7. ***!!!! Why has Apple screwed up?

    My ipod classic 160 6th gen. was recently stolen. It had 3000 tunes on it and it synced perfectly with Itunes 9 on my Imac G5 non intel OS 10.4.11. So I recently bought same model and guess what, it doesn't sync at all. Now message says it only works with Itunes 10.7 and up. I certainly cant afford to buy a new intel based Mac and I really dont need a new pc. It feels like Apple has dropped the ball on its long time users and tough luck to you and all the $$$$$$$ spent on downloading songs and buying ipods over the years! I AM SO ANGRY THAT I CANNOT BRING MY MUSIC WITH ME ANYMORE. I dont know if there is any solution to this except being extorted to upgrade to new tech! I have been trying to get answers to this issue but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not a tech genius so extremely techy solutions will be in vane.

    one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
    This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
    Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

    Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you have registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you have selected iMessage for use. Learn more about troubleshooting iMessage registration if the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use.
    Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. Learn more about troubleshootingcellular data or a Wi-Fi connection if a data connection isn't available.
    iMessage over cellular data might not be available while on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn more about which network your phone supports.     Restart your device.

    I really appreciate all your help. Today I spent some time on the problem. First I purchased  any video converter from the ap store and then I connected the camera to the mac with the original usb cable that came with the camera. I turned on the camera and selected backup on pc and the logo came up on my home page. I opened it and after several attempts i found the 3 video files that were on the camera. I then converted them from a tod file to mp4 and then transfered  them to imovie. Now I have to figure out how to send the video to youtube or move it to an external hard drive which I have not been able to do. So far I am not too fond of imovie 11. If you could send me  the download for imovie 6 I then could try that route. When talking to apple support yesterday about the problem they suggested to get Final Cut Express.
