The Mail on my iPhone and "Mail" on my Mac doesn't sync. Any advices?
The Mail on my iPhone and "Mail" on my Mac doesn´t sync.
The Inbox is the only one that does. Not the sent etc.On my computer, on Mail-Settings-Account its filled in with my: @me.com and also @mac.com as emailadress. And on Server sent messages (SMTP) with: iCloud.
So I think this should be right...?
(I cant really view any adress to the left of Inbox at the top).
On the phone (iPhone3), on Settings-iCloud-Account it says @mac.com. When I try to change it to @me.com it says its already connected to that. So I guess it shouldnt matter.
I really cant make it work.
When I had MobileMe, before moving to iCloud it used to be alright... -
"Messages" doesn't sync old messages from my iphone
Hello there,
I've got a problem since few weeks. Actually Messages app from my macbook doesn't sync old messages from my iPhone. It does sync new messages, that i'm sending from now, but it didn't take the olds. I would like to sync everything, knowing that "Messages" has very old messages which aren't more on my iPhone and that I want to keep.
So to resume : Messages app has got very old messages. My iPhone has got new ones. Very new text messages (since today) are saved on both. And I want to sync on Messages app messages which aren't there.
I hope it's understandable, sorry for my english ^^
Maurice.Hi,
Messages on the Mac will only sync iMessages from the time the iPhone and a Mac are linked by adding the Apple ID to the iPhone and then the pop up accepted on the Mac to add the iPhone number to the list of Alternatives.
This means that a New Mac will not get older iMessages from the server (They actually no longer exist).
iMessages are "duplicated" at the iMessages Severs and sent out (pushed) to the specific devices.
Once that device has received the iMessage the iMessages is deleted from the server
This may mean an iPhone has an iMessages and that "version" has been deleted from the iMessages server - whilst a version that is going to be sent to the Mac is waiting for the Mac to respond so it's version can be sent.
iMessages are Pushed as it is called from the servers and not "fetched" like email are in the Mail app.
So...
A New iPhone will not get "old" iMessages that still show on a Mac.
If the Mac is New (or the Mac User accounts is new) and the iPhone has the "old" iMessages the Mac will only see/sync the "new" iMessages.
There are ways of using iTunes to Save a Backup of the iPhone and tools that can be downloaded to "Save" older Messages to the Mac if they have not synced in Messages.
However there is no method to get older iMessages on the Mac to put them on an iPhone

Why am I unable to send e mails from my iPhone, and get message rejected by server and message put in outbox. I have tried changing server ports but to no avail. I am not very technically minded so any suggestions in laymans terms please. This is a big problem as I work away frequently and need to answer e mails. This also happens when at home and on my own wifi.

Messages read on iPhone/iPad are not being marked as read on Mac
I've had an iPhone, iPad, and Mac for several years and just recently noticed that my unread messages on my Mac are increasing. I don't use the Mac much since I use the iPhone or iPad more often. The number of unread message across my iPhone and iPad are always in sync, but not my Mac. I have two Gmail accounts - Main and Spam. The Spam account seems to sync - there are currently 22 unread messages across all devices. But the Main account doesn't sync from iPhone/iPad to Mac. I have 64 unread messages on iPhone/iPad but it's 207 on the Mac. How do I make messages that I've read on my iPhone/iPad show as read on my Mac? I got the iPhone 5 last year, but I think this is a relatively new development.
Late reply I know, but if you haven't already, try to disable to antivirus or whatever security software that might be filtering email on your Mac and test Mail again. I ended up disabling the "Mail Shield" option on "avast!" (antivirus/anti-SPAM software).

HT4101 can you tell me why my 64gb sanddisk card can not be read by my ipad ?
can you tell me why my 64gb sanddisk card can not be read by my ipad ?
I assume that it's an SD card of some sort ? If it's an SDXC card then how is it formatted - from the page that you posted from :
Here are the supported SD cards and image-transfer protocols:
Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP)
Mass Storage Device protocol
SDSC
SDHC
miniSD
microSD
MMC
SDXC (supported only when not formatted as ExFAT)
If it's not formatted as ExFAT then how did the photos get onto the card ? If you copied them onto it yourself then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them -
ICal on the Mac doesn't sync to iPad and iPhone
I'm syncing using iCloud. A calendar update on the iPhone will sync in iTunes but the sync only updates the iPad calendar. iCal on the Mac doesn't update to the newer iPhone calendar events. I also tried it by hooking the iPad directly to the Mac via the cable, and the newer events on the iPad calendar (which had the new events transferred via sync from the iPhone) didn't transfer to iCal. On the Mac in iTunes, I have the calendar named "Home" checked, which is the same name as the calendars on the iPhone and iPad.
How do you sync the Mac iCal to the iPhone and iPad calendars? The 'Home' calendar does not sync to iCloud, only the iCloud calendar does that.
In the iCloud control panel have you turned calendar sync on? and are you seeing the iCloud calendar in iCal?, all calendars in the 'On my Mac' group are local, they do not sync.
Also, check in iCal>Preferences>Accounts, to ensure that iCloud is subscribed to in iCal: -
Reading iPad Mail: Doesn't sync and show read on iMac
I am currently using iCloud services and read almost all of my mail on my iPad. I also have that same account setup on my iMac Mail. When I finish reading my emails on my iPad and it shows no new Mail notifications when I log into my iMac it still shows that I have 30 or so mail notifiactions. These are all the messages are already read on my iPad.
How does this functionality work? I must be missing something but this is very frustrating.
Thanks,
RickyI'm new here so you'll have to bear with me if my explanation needs work!
I suspect that your problem may be that your Mac is storing the sent stuff on the local folder (probably hapening with junk and trash too???) If this is the case then...
Make sure you have the correct IMAP path prefix - entered in Mail Preferences > Accounts > Advanced - I believe that the prefix you need is Gmail
Quit Mail so it doesn't interfere with what you're doing,
Open ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist with the Property List Editor
Take a back up copy (I saved mine to desk top) of com.apple.mail.plist
Look for the key named MailAccounts and click the arrow to expand it
you should see all your accounts indexed as 0, 1, 2, etx
Find your IMAP accounts (check that the key AccountType is IMAPAccount)
Find the key SentMessagesMailboxName and change it to Gmail/Sent (substitute INBOX for IMAP Path Prefix if incorrect)
Find the key TrashMailboxName and change it to Gmail/Trash
I think I had to do the same with junk too
Hope that is of some use or at least makes enough sense :-) -
Why won't some music sync from iTunes to my iPhone 5?
I have purchased several items from the iTunes store with no trouble syncing and playing on my iPhone 4. Recently I purchased two iPhone 5's for myself and my son. His phone is synced to my iTunes account and can play all content. My phone initially synced all my music and comedy albums. Occasionally I would come across a song my iPhone music player refused to play. I would touch the song name, briefly see the song/album and it would flip back to my playlist/song list without playing or it would skip to another song. Sometimes skipping several songs in between and flashing quickly the song title.
To rectify this, I researched the problem on the forums and tried one of the suggestions of right clicking on the song in iTunes, converting the song to AAC and then deleting the original and re-syncing. After powering down and re-syncing, the 173 non-synced songs out of 808 purchased songs were no longer even on my phone.
I accessed the iTunes store through the app on my phone, found the non-downloaded songs in the cloud and manually downloaded them to my phone. Although I couldn't put them in the playlists I had created on iTunes (where they are checked and the playlist is checked for syncing) I did have them on my phone and they played perfectly. After my phone was plugged into a power source with iTunes open and my phone synced, the songs were once again missing from my phone.
I contacted Apple support and we spent some time trying different things:
1) Selected tab under iTunes preferences for devices "Prevent iPhone from syncing automatically"
2) Reset all settings
3) Backed up my iPhone for a restore - which we never did.
I spoke then with a senior support consultant and we then:
1) Deleted the songs from my phone through Settings > General > Usage > Storage where my playlists remained but were empty.
2) We re-synced all my checked playlists. The songs were still missing.
3) On iTunes we selected "Sync all music". Songs were still missing.
4) Went to iTunes Store via iTunes on my Mac, looked up purchases and downloads, re-downloaded missing songs (there were only six of them and happened to be the ones that I converted to AAC).
5) Created new "Test" playlist and dragged two of the missing iPhone songs into it. Synced phone to include new playlist. Playlist appeared but was empty.
I had purchased two John Pinette comedy albums. One entire album will not sync and on the second, only two of the thirteen "songs" will sync. The support person asked if I wanted to change all of the m4a songs to mp3 and was going to show me how but when viewing the John Pinette "Still Hungry" album where the first and last song synced, they show the file ends with m4a, as do all of the songs that won't sync. This leads me to conclude that the file type isn't the issue, but that there is something corrupted with certain files from the iTunes store or a glitch that is incompatible with the IOS 6.1.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and have you been able to rectify it?I have a similar problem and have spent three sequential days at the Apple Genius Bar before we were able to exclude most other possibilities and found that certain files (in my case all mp3s from CDs I own) that play just fine in iTunes 11.0.1 and that used to play in iOS 6.0.1 do not play in iOS 6.1. We restored the phone to factory settings and synced only a few of the music files that were problematic. They still did not play. We reproduced the problem on my iPad mini (iOS6.1).
Apple Telephone Support suggestion was to convert all mp3 files in iTunes to AAC (which according to Apple Website may degrade sound quality). No further suggestions or escalation but a recommendation to place comments on www.apple.com/feedback and, if there are enough complaints, someone at Apple might take an interest in this problem. Something has changed in iOS 6.1 where files that played on prior mobile system software no longer work.
Apple, please pay attention to this glitch with iOS 6.1. -
Why does my calendar not sync events created on my iphone
When I create an event on my iPhone 4 and then sync it to my MacBook, the event is not showing up in iCal. I have "Sync all Calendars" checked in iTunes under info when my phone is connected. This problem just started after I installed Snow Leopard.
Welcome to the Apple Community.
1. First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
2. Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
3. If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings. -
My selected playlists are not syncing from Itunes to my iPhone. As a music teacher this is extremely problematic as I use my phone as my primary music player. Anyone know why all music syncs but not the playlists?
First, you're not talking to Apple - this is a users' forum. Second, sync operations work one way - iTunes to iDevice; create and modify your playlists in iTunes, then sync them to your iPhone.

Sync e-mail messages between iphone and Mail
Is it possible to sync e-mail message such that when I delete messages from my iphone they go into the trash in Mail (and vice versa)?
Alternatively, besided the above information. You can configure your pop account on Iphone to delete emails from the server when you delete from Iphone (this is the closest thing you can have without IMAP).
which means that if you read your email on the Iphone first and delete something, and when you go back to your desktop Mail, that Mail application will not be able to retrieve the deleted emails (which you deleted via the Iphone).
Hope this helps. -
