My phone model is nokia 5230. Why my ovi store always close automatically after i've opened it about 3mn? I've tried to uninstall it and reinstall it again, but this couldn't solve my problem. Anyone please help me, i'm very thankful for that.

This is correct. iTunes Match and iCloud are separate services and do not depend on one another. You can have distinct Apple IDs for each one.

  • Posting Ovi Store Reviews = Nokia Account TERMINAT...

Here's the short version of my story, which is directly summarized in the subject above (and yes, my account is being terminated against my will).
    1.  create nokia account, use it to sign in to Ovi Store
    2.  post reviews for applications
    3.  have at least 6 of your reviews flagged with the "report issue" link
    4.  recieve notification that your account is terminated.
Q: "Why did you post so many reviews that were flagged using 'report issue'"?
A:  My reviews were non-abusive.  One such 'removed' review simply stated that 'Compass Touch' was a nice application and 'did what it said on the tin'.
Q:  "Why not alert Nokia that reviews were being removed unjustly early in the process and avoid this final terminal fate"?
A:  I tried.  review removal notifications are sent via email, from the address [email protected].  Replying to this address resulted in email delivery failure notices: the account is dead and undeliverable.
Q:  "So why not contact Nokia Customer Care directly"?
A:  I did.  After a multitude of emails I gave up: they are idiots.  I never got them to understand that my issue was with REVIEWS being removed rather than APPLICATIONS being removed.  The email chain has some of the most expressive and distressed language I have ever written.
Q:  "Wait, so the account is closed.  What does that mean"?
A:  It means that I cannot buy more apps from the Ovi Store.  In 3 months I spent $75 at the Ovi Store and now that revenue stream is cut off by Nokia themselves.  All applications I have purchased are now irreversibly detached from association with any Nokia Account and I cannot re-register for an account with my username OR my email address for 6 months.
Q:  "Big deal, 6 months, so what"?
A:  Well, it is a big deal. Now I will almost certainly not buy anything ever again directly from the Ovi Store (loss of revenues to Nokia).  If I do, I certainly won't post reviews of any apps (loss of quality control and PR for Nokia).  Also note that I am developing 3 applications for S60v5 at the moment - and I am seriously finding it difficult to see a future for these applications on the Ovi Store.
Q:  "Who cares if you don't post reviews anymore, your reviews were abusive"
A:  No, they weren't.  I can't stress that enough.  My reviews were far from abusive and most of the reviews that were flagged were short, accurate and POSITIVE reviews.  Moreover, as a user I was PENALIZED for posting MEANINGFUL REVIEWS.  We've all seen the gobs and gobs of **bleep** reviews on the Ovi Store, right?  The poor language, the obvious and crude Nokia bashing, the iPhone fanboy posts?  If legitimate users with meaningful things to say are penalized for posting proper reviews, all we will have left are those **bleep** reviews that never belonged there in the first place.
Q:  "Wait, what apps are you developing anyway"?
A:  They aren't ready for public consumption, but will be released under the GPL when I am done.  'Bibliotouch' will be a free ebook reader with automatic bookmarking and social reviews that ties into the Gutenburg Project for free Public Domain books.  'NighPhone WebApps' will be an 'appstore' of sorts, providing an interface to search, test, and install widgets to launch iPhone WebApps on your Nokia device - complete with social reviews and 2 levels of installations (local bookmarks and local widget generation/installation).  Finally 'NagNagNag' will be a Location Based Service that watches where you spend your time and allows for location based time budgeting, allowing you to setup alarms such as [nag me if i work more than 50 hours a week] or [nag me if i don't visit family at least once a season].
Q:  "Hey those are good ideas for apps, can I steal the ideas and make them myself"?
A:  Sure.  Go for it.  I'm still gonna write them myself too, and release them as open source projects, so do whatever you want to.  Just be forewarned that Ovi Store might be a horrible horrible horrible place to distribute them.

While I do feel bad for the author, after reading the initial post one big question stuck out in my mind: "Why on earth are you paying money to the Ovi Store?"
The store has been around for months, and there have been literally HUNDREDS of posts across the internet about people losing money.  In addition, the customer service is abysmal and lawsuit-worthy,
    [...snip...]
Again, while I do feel that you were booted out unfairly, bitflung you should look at this as an opportunity.  At least you got out after only being $75 in the hole.
The Ovi store is like a Casino.  The house always wins, and the customer should go in expecting to lose everything they went in with.

fair enough.  of course, if the store would ever be anything other than a money trap it would require early adopters.  that's me.  i still drive the first hybrid available in the USA (predates the prius, btw - Honda Insight).  still own an original N95-1 (though i will sell it once my N97 gets voip support). etc etc etc.
I guess what i'm saying is, though lots of people have had issues i was still game for using the ovi store.  if i had an issue with purchasing a single app and ended up loosing $1.99, i'd be aggravated.  instead, i'm blown away: my whole account has been terminated.  that's a whole different breed of broken.  as an early adopter, this is the first time i feel truly stung by the flaws of a service provider.  even my N95-1, with all of its problems, remains as functional today as it was last year.  ovi store?  not so much.  it's like having my N95-1 suddenly disappear, or better yet like the N95-1 suddenly started rejecting my SIM card saying, "all those calls to your family look like prank calls to me, so i've terminated your mobile contract with AT&T".
anyway - surly i won't be spending any money at the ovi store again for quite some time (seems i can't even create a new account now because my mobile # is attached to the terminated account still).

  • Ovi Store and Nokia Accounts unresponsive on my 80...

I sent my 808 in for service and requested a wipe to factory defaults due to some issues that I was having. When my phone was returned to me, I had great difficulty loging in to Nokia Account and Ovi Store Mobile. There is a round wheel that would just keep spinning when the respective apps were launched and eventually fail.
There was also a odc.nokia.com error which claims to be expiring in 3 months (May 2014).
I have returned my 808 back to Nokia Care. I hope the issues can be rectified.

    I visited https://odc.nokia.com.  The security certificate expires on 7/5/2014 (7 May 2014).

  • Issues with Ovi store in Nokia N8 and the OS is ha...

    Hi,
I have taken Nokia N8 in the month of March. It was all working fine and all of sudden I am noticing that the Ovi store is not opening tried resetting to factory settings, It did not help. Tried reinstalling the Ovi It also did not help. I went to Nokia Care and they said that they need to upgrade the software, They did but after that also the Ovi store is not opening they were also not able to install the ovi. they said that they need to check and if they cant then they need to send it to Delhi, I asked them for a Back up phone but they say that they cant give. what is this we take a Branded mobile paying such huge amount and when we have to give it service they say it will take a week to 10 days and for a time untill they confirm when they would give the mobile they cant provide a back up phone. Its really bad on Nokia. Its damaging the reputation of Nokia. Can this be looked into. Well I went to nokia care expecting a good hospitality but I felt like I went an Open market where if you want leave it else please keep moving....

  • Problem on my ovi store in nokia x2 01

Hi nokia, can you help me with this app ? I can't open my ovi and mail application on my x2 01. How can i ease this problem ?

    Hi Brackx
Thank you for posting and welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
Simple steps that you can try:
    Restart your phone
    1. Switch your phone off
    2. Remove the battery.
    3. After a few seconds, put the battery in and switch your phone on.
    Reset the settings
    1. Restore the original factory settings, go to Menu > Settings > Restore factory settings > Settings only. If prompted for a security or lock code, enter 12345 unless you changed it.
Note: This will not delete any of your personal data saved on the phone. However, any personalization you've made will restore back to its default settings.
    Update the software
    1. Make sure your phone is running the latest software. You may refer to this link: http://www.nokia.com/global/support/software-update/belle-asha-symbian-software-update/

  • Ovi maps on Nokia 5230

Hi all, I have a nice, shiny new 5230 and have a quick question. Is there a way of using Ovi maps without the phone connecting to the internet everytime? I thought I had disabled the connection, but it just connects up every time I open maps. Thanks

Depends on your definition of accurate. GPS accuracy can be affected by atmospheric conditions. weather, obstacles etc, and all this before you consider the innacuracies designed ionto the system. While I would not use it to survey a property, most of the time, it is accurate enough for it's intended purpose, which is navigation.

    Hey nokia people,
I've been getting this message for the whole week now, and i can't see anything in the announcements section. If there's something wrong with your systems it would be prudent to announce about it, especially prolonged outages.
Can anyone shed some light on it? Any idea when it will be up again? Can i download mail for exchange from anywhere meanwhile?

Well i re-registered with a new username and it works. Funny thing my old username doesn't. I tried on multiple computers. The user/pass combo was also correct.

  • Why won't Ovi Store let me download any programs -...

I have an E71 and just updated the firmware. As moving settings over messed my wifi up last time, I opted to do this manually and reinstall all my programs - I set aside a few hours last night to get this done.
Ovi Store is widely known to have serious design flaws. The main being it does offer a direct download of the .sisx files on the PC version, only a text message with a link - which goes without saying is a terrible way of receiving files.
Last time I used the PC version my text messages showed up several days later - and this time none have appeared yet, as expected.
So I used the phones built-in Ovi Store, which does the job.
However, after just about installing all my programs I checked out the 'settings' in Ovi Store and saw that the default was for them to be stored on the memory card, which fundamental logic dictates is wrong - they go on the phone memory because it is faster.
Why is the default for programs to be stored somewhere no sensible, intelligent person would store them?
As there does not appear to be any semblance of a functional file system on the E71 (certainly not something capable of showing which memory various applications are saved to, or the option of being able to move them from the memory card back to the phone) I decided formatting the card would be the most sensible option.
I did this, lost a bunch of my apps that were on the memory card and went over to the Ovi store on my phone to re-download them.
It now has these apps greyed out as if they are still installed - which they are not!
I then went on my PC - and of course the website might as well not exist, because Nokia don't send me SMS messages for a few days, if at all.
I really don't know what I've done to deserve this. I've purchased two E71s, Nokia drive AND the traffic updates (which are now free) in the last 18 months - and all Nokia do is work as hard as they can to punish me, ruin my phone experience and force me onto the new Windows 7 phone that I am almost certain to order on release.
There is no coincidence about the degree of deliberately compromising hardware/software decisions I've complained about on this forum, Nokia never sending me programs I want via SMS but happily filling my SMS and email inbox with marketing - and waiting until I paid up for my Maps before making it free and now this.
It is clear that Nokia do NOT want me to enjoy their phone and buy an E72 soon - and instead want me to go with Windows 7. They have put great time, resources and effort into forcing me into this decision.
    - Why does Ovi store online not have the manual download function that any sensible, reasonable human would demand?
    - Why does the second-rate, third-world SMS download function not bother sending the link for several days?
    - Why does the Ovi software install programs somewhere that no human with the slightest comprehension of IT skills would advocate installing them?
    - Why does the Ovi software not let me re-install programs from the built-in store that are no longer on my phone?
I will be the last of my friends who have returned various phones such as the disasterous N97 and permamently moved to different phone manufacturers when my contract ends this summer.

    1. Actually, any sensible intelligent person would store the programs on the memory card. Not doing so would mean that he has less knowledge of the phone. If any of the programs come into conflict with other programs causing certain problems like restarts general hangs, and unable to start the phone, if this app is on the phone memory, it would be hell of a problem. You can change it if you want. Your choice. Also I keep too many apps for them to be stored on phone memory. Python, Java 2.0, Flash Lite, MS Silverlight for Symbian and Ovi Maps already take up too much space to leave enough for buffer.
    2. There is an application manager on the E71. Also, AFAIK the application manager also shows which memory the app is stored in (a little memory card icon beside apps in memory card). It should be in Menu>Tools>Manager
    3. The apps are greyed out because you did not uninstall them properly. On the phone memory, where the Oinstallation logs are saved, there is no log of the apps being uninstalled, so Ovi Suite sees them as installed.
    FOr the questions in bold:
    1. This is done through a firefox plugin. We do not know why, but I suspect its with distribution rights and to make sure that only Nokia phones can access several apps that are exclusive for Nokia users only. For example, Gameloft and Polarbit gave away several paid games for free to Nokia users. If the apps were downloadable in sis files, the game manufacturers would not earn from Sony users who can get the files for their Satio for free through Nokia sites.
    2. Not really sure. There are times I receive the SMS instantaneously, sometimes I receive them a few hours late.
    3. False. In fact as I already stated above, it is more advisable to install apps in memory card as opposed to phone memory.
    4. Also already explained above.

    Ashis,

I have recently updated my Nokia C7 with a new version of Market and now I can no longer update any programs. I can click on markets, which gives a black screen. Nothing happens, regardless of how long time I seem to wait. Pressing the middle buttom, can get me back to idle, checking the open applications (longpress middle key) reveals that "nokiastoreclient" is running.
I want to remove this faulty version or update again. How can I do this? (using the link above, just start the "nokiastoreclient", then nothing.

  • Regardless of what you might think of the OVI stor...

...I am so glad I do not have to limit myself to working through iTunes.  I just now received notice of some free book downloads that I had an interest in, only to find that I had to go through several steps in order to re-authorize my computer to work with iTunes.  After numerous steps, verification of identity as well as payment methods, I was finally assured that I was ready to download the book.  Surprise!  I had apparently exceeded the number of authorized devices associated with my itunes account. I would have to de-authorize a device first.  But here's the problem: I no longer have any of the older devices to de-authorize.  At that point I closed iTunes, thanking my stars that I don't have an iPhone, and am not locked into using iTunes and its Byzantine licensing labyrinth!
    Solved!

It no longer applies to audio files as they are no loner protected.
If you run into the five device limit, you can de-authroize all your devices once every month from one computer running iTunes and then re-add those you still need.
Whenever possible, I buy symbian apps from the developer instead of Ovi. Not only are the apps in the Ovi-Store often several versions behind, but you can't even see in the Ovi-store which version you are buying.
All in all the experience with iTunes (I support fruit phones here @ work) is far less tedious than wrestling with the notoriously unstable, buggy and unreliable Ovi-Suite and the IMHO quite painful to navigate Ovi-Store.
    @kiltbear
Thought that de-authorising allowed once a year not month if 5 devices authorised:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1420
At least if you buy from developer you have the downloaded application forever, as can easily disappear from OVI store.
If you purchase app. from iTunes it is not tied to IMEI when you re-sync new device.
Yes you are right about the de-authorize feature in iTunes, my memory failed me :-)
Well, as for being tied to IMEI, Gravity for Symbian is when bought from the developer, but you can transfer it if you switch phones.  That won't be happening as I don't plan on buying another Nokia device after the dreadful N97. After 16 or so years of only Nokia devices I'll look elsewhere when my 24 month N97 ordeal, err contract is up in December.
As for the Ovi-Store and Ovi-Music, I tried to get the non-DRM version of albums and songs that I had purchased (with vouchers from the 5800XM and N97) just prior to Nokia finally going non-DRM because an Ovi-Suite update had nuked my licenses and failed miserably.
Only one album was offered for re-download, in DRM-protected form, but hey, at least it was listed twice! None of my other music showed and support was living up to their trade-mark Nokia uselessness. I'm just glad I didn't actually pay for those downloads.
IM+ was a similar story. Ancient version in the Ovi-Store, no update and the Ovi-Version key did not work with the version downloaded from shape Services (the developer) did not accept the Nokia key. This was followed by more Nokia support uselessness.
Haven't bought anything from the Ovi Store since. I always check if I can get it from the developer or another store portal (e.g. Handango).
Suffice it to say that every other dowload store I buy and bought stuff from (Sony, Handango, PalmGear, Apple, Audible)  was able to solve any problems efficiently, swiftly and satisfactorily, with the one big exception being Ovi. Of the issues with purchases I reported to support (four all in all) none were resolved at all and no response by a human was received without contacting them SEVERAL times for each problem, a first reply took upwards of three working days and then it was only a useless boilerplate with no relevance to the problem described.
Ever seen a black lemon? They turn black when they rot. My N97 is black. 'nuff said
