Why My TC doesn't appear in Disk Utility Anymore?

Hi and tnxs for reading.
One year ago I bought the last version of TC 2TB.
I created a partition (or a disk image since according to other posts I see that a proper partition cannot be created) by using disk utility, in order to have 500GB of space for my temporary files and 1.5TB for time machine backup.
I used Disk Utility for that and I do not remember what OSX, maybe Mountain Lion.
Now I have noticed that I cannot see Time Capsule anymore from my Disk Utility!! Why? Is this due to Mavericks?
How can I see it again on WiFi as before?
If there is no way, what about the part ion I created, if I want to modify it??
Tnxs, cheers.

So can you confirm I have to go w Finder on the TMachine image on my TC and open with Disk Utility and then on the top right to resize image? I see in this way I can only resize the TC image so as I guess the rest is protected if I need to copy there temporary files instead of using an external HD... is this correct?

  • Why doesn't Time Capsule appear in Disk Utility anymore?

Time Machine gave me a msg that it was unable to back up yesterday due to a problem with an image on my iMac (21.5") drive. It said to repair the external drive I'm using with Disk Utility. I tried the Time Capsule I'm using and which is hooked up and has worked fine for months does not appear.  Why?
Also got a msg today saying: "backup cannot be complete due to unexpected error. Code -6584"  Never had such a problem before Mt. Lion.
I see no forum category for Time Machine or Time Capsule.

You need to verify the backup.
Hold the option key while clicking the Time Machine icon on the top right menu area.
But reboot the TC beforehand.. maybe the whole network.
The error is well known.. see

  • My external hard drive doesn't appear in disk utility

I've been using a western digital my book (500gb) external hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme for TIme Machine Backups.  For no apparent reason, it stopped backing up a few days ago.  I've plugged the drive directly into my MBP, and it doesn't appear in system profiler or disk utility.  Any ideas how to get the MBP to mount the drive?

I hate to have to tell you this, but backing-up that way is unreliable, and not supported by Apple.  See  Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk.
But, as ds store says, the disk is likely dead.

I have had windows XP fully working on here before. However, I tried to extend the amount of GB I gave the windwos partition obviously there corrupting the partition so now I can no longer loads windows up. So I want to delete the partition and reinstall.
Yeah you messed up your system. You can't expand, shrink or in any other way do anything to the Windows partition as that will cause it to become non usable and then can't be removed and put back into the Mac partition.
Your only option now is to save all your files, with Time Machine or just copying them to an external drive, and Wipe/Erase/Re-Partition the complete drive and reinstall OS X Snow Leopard.

  • How do I get my Time Capsule to appear in Disk Utility so I can repair it as instructed by Time Machine do to?

Time Machine twice reported it couldn't complete the backup to Time Capsule, and I should do a Repair Permission on Time Capsule. Unfortunately, it fails to appear in Disk Utility - only the iMac hard drive appears. What do I do?

I found this same question in the archives. I followed the instructions to click on New Image, but there is no Shared item on the left as suggested, so don't know what to do next. Cannot understand why Time Capsule fails to appear when it is plugged into the iMac!

  • XServe: Disks do not appear in disk utility

    Hi,
I have the following problem with our Xserve (intel) with MacOS Server 10.6.4:
I have a bunch of firewire 800 external drives witch are daisy chained. They are configured as JBOD and were working just fine.
But suddenly they disappeared. I looked them up in the disk utility but coudnt find them there any more; but the system profiler still shows them in the FireWire tab.
This way it started: I cant attach external USB / FW Disks any more; they just do not appear in disk utility.
With another Mac I could verify that the disks are fine. The problem is with to the Xserve.
    I even tred
    Thanks in advance, Daniel

    Hi Daniel,
Hope this doesn't sound silly but is the xserve locked or unlocked? If it is locked you need to unlock it for the disks to mount.
    Hope that helps

  • My ipod shuffle (2nd gen) doesn't appear to be charging anymore

my ipod shuffle (2nd gen) doesn't appear to be charging anymore. Have tried different usb ports, etc.  The computer does not recognize it as being plugged in.

I just had that same problem. I also have my iPod touch but i also want to use this for many other reasons... SOMEBODY HELP!!!

  • Encrypted HDD does not appear in Disk Utility or Finder or Terminal

I recently reformatted a 320 GB external HDD as Encyrpted, Journaled HFS+ using Mountain Lion. For several weeks, it worked flawlessly. I was able to back up financial documents with the security of disk-level encryption. When connected, the drive would mount and prompt for password (as expected).
Then one day I knocked against my desk while the drive was connected, pulling the FireWire cable out of the external HDD. It lost power and disconnected, causing the error message about disconnecting disks before ejecting them.
I immediately plugged it in and attempted to find it. Unfortunately, it didn't appear in Finder. It didn't appear in Disk Utility. It didn't appear in /Volumes or on diskutil list. I haven't been able to get it since then.
    I have:
    A) Restarted with HDD attached
    B) Restarted without HDD attached
    C) Connected with a different FireWire cable, then tried connecting with a USB cable
    C) Run "Repair Disk" on my main internal HD while in Recovery Mode, without and then with HDD attached
    D) Tried connecting to other Macs, using combinations of Lion and Mountain Lion, FireWire and USB
Does anyone have any additional tricks to try? The data is backed up, so it's ok if I lose it. But I would love to unbrick this drive that I purchased before considering it useless.

  • My internal hard drives don't appear in disk utility. Can't install os X

    Hi,
I have a macpro. In this computer are 4 1TB hard drives. They were set up as a raid set. I booted my comp with a snow leopard install disk and opened raid utility to delete the raid set so I can install os X on one hard drive and use the other hard drives to store files. After deleting the raid set, I opened disk utility to find no disks in which I can reformat or even install snow leopard. What steps do I take now to ensure all disks are useable and that I can install my operating system on one of them?

    Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Now if you wish you can repeat Steps 2 and 3 on the other three drives. Or you can do it after installing OS X.
Once you have one drive reformatted you can quit DU and install OS X.

  • USB Drive not showing up at all, not appearing in disk utility either

Hi, I am having a problem getting my USB drives to show up at all, namely my iPhone. When I plug my iPhone in, iTunes recongizes it, but I am unable to get it to appear in Finder, Desktop, or Disk Utility. I tried it on a Windows PC and it works perfectly fine. I am also having issues with USB thumb drives. However, my western digital external HD works fine.
Very strange problem, anyone have any solutions?

    Now don't do that.
My only other thoughts on this was that there is something wrong with the cable or jack in your macbook.  You said the iphone mounted in a windows pc.  So it looks like the cable is ok.  That may mean the jack has problems.  On the other hand you also say plugging in the WD external works through that jack.  So the cable and jack look ok.  So much for that thought.
I also would suggest a pram reset but I doubt that would have any affect.  Or is that why you did when you said you "flashed" pram?

  • I have problem to read my HDD, but it appears on Disk utility how can I fix it Please?

Hello, How are you and thanks for your time to review my question. it's been like 8 months my Macbook pro stop reading my 1TB HDD but I have noticed that I can read Flash Drive. whenever I connect the HDD to the computer and I Check on Disk utility it appears but not on my desktop. I have connected the HDD on several computers and it's working perfectly. Please help me solve this issue.

Sorry I didn't notice that the pictures weren't inserted
I did click on mount and I have this message I'm going to run first aid and see if it would work
Yeah it has been eight months. the problem is that i had an HDD before that one it stops working because of a fall and obviously that one didn't work on my computer and neither on others so I bought a new onethat has no defect since it works perfectly on other computers Mac and PC but doesn't show up on mind I can't access my files like I told you previously and the funny fact for me is that DU can see i have a disk connected.
PS: i did run first aid ----> verify disk---> Repair----> and try to mount again-----> but same mount failed result
Sig Really appreciate your attention to my case, hopefully there's a solution.

  • USB Flash Drive no longer shows on Desktop, it does appear in disk utility. I recently upgraded to 10.8 from 10.6 on both iMac and Macbook and the drive does the same on both.

I updated my Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion and have had only minor issues with some software but I plugged in a USB flash drive and went to format it, it now appears only in disk utility and not on the desktop. I have tried restarting and reseting with the drive in and out, I tried it into my macbook and it does exactly the same there. I can't do anything in Disk Utility so can't access it in any way and it says errors if I try to eject it from DU. I'm not normally stumped but I can't figure this out at all. I'm hoping that someone here could give me an idea that I haven't thought of as it's a large Flash Drive and I really would like to keep using it.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

If it has the same (bad) behavior on two different systems then there is a very good chance that the  drive is toast.
BTW you'll get better response to your questions if the question actually reflects the problem you are having. In this case it would have been better to say you couldn't access the drive rather then that it doesn't show on the desktop.
    regards

  • Iomega external hard drive not appearing in Disk Utility

I have a MacBook Pro (from 2011) and I'm running OS X 10.9.5. I have an old Iomega external hard drive. I'm not certain but this thing might be about 3-4 years old? When I connect the drive to my MBP, it shows up in Finder under Devices. But what appears is the Windows disk utility that is pre-loaded on the drive. The actual drive does not appear and I can't move files onto it in Finder.
When I go into Disk Utility and try to format the drive for Mac use, it doesn't appear.
Is there anything I can do or am I stuck with this old drive that doesn't work with Macs?

  • My external drives no longer appear in Finder, BUT they do appear in Disk Utility (and network drives appear also)

Hi folks, I hope someone can assist.  I have a Mac Mini 2011 running 10.8.5.  All has been well. Suddenly, when I plugged in an external flash drive (USB), nothing showed up in Finder.  Things I have done:
Confirmed SideBar and other Finder preferences are set to show/reveal external, network, and internal HDs
Tried multiple flash drives and hard drives, using drives formated in GUID/OSXExtended as well as FAT and NTSF. None show up.
Confirmed that the Hidden flag in terminal is not set.
Note:  I can see the drives in Disk Utility, but the partitions/volumes are gray and will not be mounted.
Note: Network drives and internal drives appear and work as expected
Note: My network Time Machine also appears and performs as expected.
The only suspect I can think of is a small, free app I installed this morning called Caffein (which manages the sleep mode).
Also, I loged out and switched to another user account on the same machine (that I use solely for the purpose of troubleshooting), and it was similarly affected.
    Thanks in advance!
    Dave
