Why "network connection reset?"

When I try to update my podcasts (which should happen automatically), I get an exclamation mark next to the podcast. When I click it, I get this message, "There was a problem downloading _______. The network connection was reset."
I'm using the latest version of iTunes, though had the same problem with the previous version. I run Windows 7 on an good quality, fast computer.
Hope someone is familiar with this problem and can tell me what to do.
Thanks!

I too have this, and there are other threads about it too. Seems an Apple server-side issue.

  • Network connection reset error

I am struggling to effect any software updates or downloands.  I get a "network connection reset" error.  I have failed to update iPhone software, even YouTube videos seem to hang at about the 50% mark.  I do not have anti-virus and have inserted new DNS info.  It makes no difference if I use Airport or Ethernet cable.  Have uninstalled and rteinstalled iTunes.  Am at a loss. Help please!

I even uninstalled Trusteer banking security software....
Did you use the developers uninstaller to ensure you fully eradicated it from your system. Trusteer's Rapport has a bad reputation on here for mucking things up. Here's a quick search of just these forums:
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/search.jspa?peopleEnab led=true&userID=&containerType=&container=&spotlight=false&q=Trusteer
Also, just to rule out the fireall possibility, have you tried turning off the firewall and testing?
Edit: You don't have anti-virus installed, but do you have anything such as Little Snitch or Peer Guardian running?

  • Network connection resets error when updting apps

On my PC XP Pro SP3, since I have updated iTunes 11, I am unable to update any apps that were previously on PC.  I always get an error message that says (there was a problem downloding -The netrwork connection was reset).

This absolutely WORTHLESS answer is getting posted everywhere and it does NOT address "network connection reset" problem which is ubiquitous. It ONLY addresses problems connecting to the iTunes store and not being able to communicate or download anything from the store. . . period.
If I had a problem connecting to the iTunes store I WOULD NOT even be able to start any download of ANYTHING from the store. The problem is getinng a network connection reset error in the middle of downloading app updates. Some update an as soon as the network connection reset error occurs with one of them, the rest FAIL. So kindly STOP posting this as the solution . .  IT.IS.NOT . . . and it's incredibly frustrating to see it posted everwhere whenever the poblem is presented in the forum.

  • Network Connection Reset in China

I am in Shanghai and have been able to use iTunes for 3 years now with no problems, but for the past two days I get an immediate message that the "network connection was reset". I have tried the usual trouble shooting with updating software, unplugging, restarting, pirouetting etc... Have contacted friends in Shanghai and they are not able to access it either. Can anyone find out if it is being blocked and how long it will be gone? Thanks for any insight....

Here is the response I got from Apple:
    Hello Jennifer,
My name is Bryan and I understand that you have not been able to connect to the iTunes store for the last couple days and that you are concerned that it would be an issue with China blocking the iTunes store. I'm sorry to hear that and I'm happy to assist you with this today.
ITunes is not being blocked in China from our end, but access to the iTunes Store IS restricted in some areas in China. This would also explain why it's happening to your friends there as well.
I would advise that you contact your ISP about this matter. Please also note though that accessing the US iTunes Store outside of the geographic region of the United States is not supported, and that attempting to access it while in China is at your own risk.

  • Error message "network connection reset" only affects one user

I'm running 10.3.9 on a 400Mhz iMac. I have 3 users, myself and my 2 kids. When I try to access a web page using Safari on one of the kid's user accounts I get an error message saying that the server cannot be contacted because the "network connection has been reset", and says to try again later but never works. The odd part is that the other two user accounts can access web pages with no problem.
I have checked my network settings, all user settings/limitations, restarted the computer and modem, tossed all cache and bookmarks for the affected user and placed the com.safari.plist from the user/library/safari folder on the desktop. Still get the same error message.
I would create a new user name but had a hassle with file permissions when I put the old user files in the new user folder.

I see you have Windows Firewall turned on. Do you happen to have any other firewalls or anti-virus in conjunction with this? Sometimes having both turned on will cause issue. Try disabling all of your anti-virus and firewall software and trying again.

  • ITunes Store - Network Connection Reset

Greetings, I have now been unable to connect to the iTunes Store for the last couple of days now but have been able to previously download apps etc. Now I continuously get the error message:
"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network Connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
This is completely frustrating me as wish to download the new App "Spore" but cant. Can access the internet fine as am writing this help request. Have also completely reinstalled over the top the latest iTunes, which I was already running the latest version, still didnt fix the issue. Also reset my Keychain to no avail. So decided to do a complete remove of iTunes and reinstall it, which did and still no change.
Have searched and searched for a solution but have yet to find anything that works.
    Please Help
    Thanks

  • Error when purchasing an album: "Network connection reset"

Every time I try to purchase a specific album (Pokémon HeartGold & Pokémon SoulSilver Super Music Collection, to be precise), I get an error claiming "The network connection was reset." Every time this happens, I check my network connection, and it is working perfectly fine. I am able to purchase any other album besides this one. What's going on?

  • Network connection reset during download of a season. Now one episode won't work.

I bought a season of Entourage and during the download the "network connection was reset." Now one of the episodes won't play right, eg. there is green stuff on the screen during the part that works and it won't even play past about 8 minutes. Is there anything I can do to have this fixed?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • I keep getting an error message saying network connection reset

The computer I am working on is windows based and hard wired to the network, not wi-fi. I get this message saying hte network connection was reset almost everytime I try to download on itunes; but I am not having connectivity issues with any other program.

FaceTime uses Wi-Fi, so you have a weak Wi-Fi connection message. Your Wi-Fi needs to be upgraded.

  • ITunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection reset.

    Hi,
I read a bunch of the other posts where people are having a hard time connecting to iTunes. However, this is not a current problem but one that has been occuring for awhile for me (actually my daughter). Either way, I removed and reinstalled iTunes 7.0.2 and I am getting the following message:
iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was reset.
Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
Well, if my network connection is not active then I wouldn't be able to reinstall iTunes or post this message. Has anyone seen this message prior to everyone getting their iTunes gift cards for X-Mas?
    Thanks!

Hi to all who are having problems...
After some time and visiting an apple store I was able to get this to work. Basically, it has something to do with your Firewall settings. I actually have Panda Software's Antivirus s/w with the firewall protection. Under the Advanced Settings page iTunes was listed as "No Connection". I selected iTunes and then clicked on Remove application. I then tried iTunes store again and it worked. I even went back to my firewall protections and this time when I looked under the Advanced Settings page iTunes is now properly listed as "Outbound (client)".
I won't take all the credit because the Apple Store pointed me to the following page which gave me the hint of checking my firewall protections:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304082
Give this a try and see if this doesn't help.
    Cheers!

  • Itunes network connection reset (error -3253)?

OK...I'm just about over iTunes. I have been purchasing more and more songs on my iPad from the iTunes store and then when I start up iTunes on my home PC, it starts to download the songs, as it is supposed to, locally to my hard drive. However, every single song does not complete downloading before a message comes up that the itunes network connection was reset. The song in Downloads indicates "err = -3253.
Based on various discussions, I have added all of the apple sites to my security software (webroot), uninstalled and reinstalled itunes (pointless since it never really uninstalls), deselected "Allow simultaneous downloads", looked to see if I have conflicting services running (I don't), and pulled out several hairs clicking the OK button everytime the error comes up and clicking Resume All....
Ultimately, I will get songs to download completely, but there really is no excuse for this.
I  run Windows 7 Professional and have Verizon FIOS as my service provider.
Anyone else experiencing this (I've had this happening for well over a month now)? Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks!

This started happening to me about three days ago and meant iTunes Match was not working and nor was it possible to download updates to apps.  The internet was otherwise fine on my computer.
I did a few things which did not work:
    1. Sign out of the Apple Store and log back in
    2. Turn off iTunes Match and restart it
    3. Remove uneeded items from the start up menu
    4. Restart cable modem
    5. Restart Apple Time Capsule
    6. Restart iTunes
    7. Restart Computer
    8. Update DNS settings from Google's to my ISP
I then did the following which did work:
    1. Update DNS setting to Open DNS (as in James Robert's post above) and hit Apply
I only updated the settings in the network system preferences panel against my Ethernet connection.  I did not amend anything in the Time Capsule or Modem.
Frankly fed up that so much tinkering is needed at such a detailed level.

  • Message loss during network connection reset

We are planning on using Oracle streams for async notifications between the database and our Java application. While testing for some edge cases we are running into the following issue.
    1) Start Java code(Waiting to dequeue message) -> disconnect network -> queue new message(using SQL) -> connect network ==> We are loosing the message in this scenario, even if we restart the listener the message would not show up.
    2) Start Java code(Waiting to dequeue message) -> disconnect network -> connect network -> queue new message(using SQL) ==> This scenario works.
DB stores messages if the listener is not running, but if we start the listener and disconnect network connection somehow the database thinks it delivered the message.
Also is there any way to stop blocking dequeue call during connection drop, database shutdown/restart?
We are using the point-to-point model, messaged is enqueued from a trigger that gets fired on insert/update to a particular table and we have a MessageListener that Uses Java API to dequeue the message. This code works fine during normal operation.

AQ uses persistent storage in queue tables so the first thing to do is see if the messages got into the table.
If they did what is the status? If not the issue is likely that your code never got the messages to the database.
