Why no book-style page-flip transitions for Reader yet???

Does anyone else find it odd that adobe has yet to include in its new versions a book style mode where you can flip facing pages back and forth like a book???? I know I'm not the only person using Reader as my primary pdf ebook reading software. Is this because adobe considers Reader primarily as software for documents, and not ebooks? You'd think Adobe would get wise and make a standalone application specifically for reading pdf ebooks, before Apple or Goodreader outdoes them at their own game. Oh wait, they already have. The only thing they're missing is interactive media capability.

No, pdfs are not ebooks, but a hell of a lot of ebooks are pdfs. I don't see the merit in saying that hardware Reader is intended for couldn't handle the processing required to implement a page-flip. If they really wanted to do it, they could. There are a number of programs now that ebooks in pdf format can be read on, that offer page-flip, search, annotation, highlighting, etc.. These programs do not handle the pdfs as Reader does, but in many ways they're more friendly to use than Reader, as they don't impose a window around the book with menus, toolbars etc., and give the reader more the feel of a book.

It seems the Apple Pages app exports to the ePub format. This is what some may be looking for.

Feature suggestion: add page flipping transition, text highlighting, notes, and translation

I'm using Adobe Reader on Android.
Similar to Google Play Books app, I'd like to suggest the following features:
1. Page flipping effect or transition.
2. Selection or highlighting of text in different colors
3. Notes taking support
4. Translation of selected text Ina similar fashion to Play Books app.
5. Syncing of reading across devices.

1. We have this added this request to our feature backlog. We might incorporate it in one of our future releases.
2. You can change the color of the highlight added to a document. Once you highlight some text, tap on it to bring a context menu with options as Color, Opacity and Clear. Select 'Color' and choose the highlight color. Please note that any new highlight made after this will appear in this color as well.
3. You can add notes to a document. From the top toolbar, select the commenting icon. The commenting toolbar will appear. The first icon from the left on this toolbar is the Sticky Note icon. You can enter text in this note and can edit it later as well.
4. We have added this request to our future backlog as well.
5. What exactly do you mean by 'Syncing of reading' across devices? Do you want the application to remember the last viewed page number? Please note that this functionality is provided for all documents in Acrobat.com. If you want to access this functionality, please make an Acrobat.com account, upload the file you want to read. The file will be visible across devices and the last viewed page will be remembered.

Style Code Not Working for Read Only Users !

Can anyone help us with this issue. We have created some special Styling code in order to hid the Quick Launch on the home page of our main SharePoint site. The Styling works no problem at
all for users with edit rights, however we found that the styling did not work for users with read only access. What we found was that if we switched on the "Edit Items - Edit items in lists, edit documents in document libraries, and
customize Web Part Pages in document libraries." in the List Permissions for the Permission Levels for the Read Access group, the Styling then works no problem at all. HOWEVER it then gives those users the ability to EDIT the site page, as it then
puts the Edit option on the page top right for the user to click and then mess up the web page, which we can not permit.
SO..... How do we get this styling to work for ALL user types ?

This usually happens when the CSS file is not published or approved, please check it.
If the CSS files uploaded in the Style Library, please check whether you had to check in those CSS files or not.

Google Books: cannot view book's pages, says loading for a long time. No problem in IE or Chrome. Settings wrong somewhere?

Once I get to the page of a certain Google Book text, the pages are not visible. If I search for text, I can see the yellow highlight but not he text. The pages say "loading" forever and do not load. In IE or Chrome there is no problem. All the pages are visible. Pages continue to slide rather than flip for the horizontal orientation. In the vertical orientation, the text scrolls up-and-down like a web page (again as shown in iBooks Author if you change the previewed orientation). I'm not sure why Apple went with the different GUI for their textbooks, but its the same for the ones authored by the big publishers. If you want to see what the format is like on the iPad, there's a short free textbook (Wilson's Life on Earth) and sample chapters from others available from the iBookstore.
On a side note, one interesting thing about using texts in the two different orientations is that the formating changes as well. Figures that show up as larger embedded images in the horizontal layout are smaller images in the left margin in the vertical layout, at least in Wilson's book.

Page-flip book on iWeb?

I am designing my own website using iWeb and I have been having problems finding a page-flip book that is iWeb compatible. If anyone knows of a page-flip program that I can use with iWeb, would you please let me know? This issue has been brought up on these forums before and I wonder what kind of success people have had. Also, if you would include a link where a page-flip book is currently being used on an iWeb designed website, that would be great. So far I haven't seen any. Thanks.

^^^ Thank you, Old Toad, for referring me to DecoImaging. Because of your help, I was able to use this program to make my own page-flip book and, with some effort, load it onto my iWeb page. Designing the book was the fairly easy part. The difficult part was that the html code that is generated in the program does not take to iWeb. A few changes needed to be made, namely the html code was changed to reflect the Flash files by adding "swf" to the code in iWeb. I could not figure this out myself and it took an html programmer to look at the code and make the changes. A note about DecoImaging too. It is a great program and it is the simplest, cleanest, and most realistic page-flip book I've seen. When you turn the pages, they don't turn too fast (like on many other books) and you can control how much curve too add in the middle of the book. No html knowlege is needed to make the book. Unfortunately, like most of these programs, there is no phone support. I must have sent dozens of emails to the only tech support person in the company. There is only one person to handle all email messages. If anyone decides to use DecoImaging to create your own flip-book, the onus is on you to be patient with the support you get from DecoImaging. In end, I got my page-flip book up on iWeb. This is what I was dreaming of all along. Here it is:

Click in the footer and enter everything you want except the page number. Then go to Insert in the menu bar and select Page numbers...

Changing ALT and Title Tags for Book and Page Icons

Hi folks,
Are you aware of any setting in Robo Help that would allow
you to modify or even remove the ALT and titles introduced for the
Book and and Page icons displayed on the navigation pane. I tried
deleting it from the RoboHHRE.lng file, but still its not going
away. Other than deleting it from the rendered files (whlstt0.htm)
is there any other setting within RoboHelp that would do the trick.
My idea is to remove all ALT and title attributes given to Book and
Pages as its causing too much redundancy.

Why is the master page default for 2 pages?

New to ID; Why are the master pages paired? I made several Master pages that consist of one page and they worked fine, so I'm wondering what I'm missing; no doubt there is a reason that the default is for a pair of master pages. So, what;s the reason?

Master pages are paired into spreads when you have "facing pages" checked off in your document setup dialog. This allows for having different information, like mirrored positioning for page numbers, or different running headers, on opposite sides of the spread.
If you only make single page documents or docs that are printed on only one side you might want to uncheck that box.

Why doesn't each 'page's info' adhere to the settings for the plug-ins?

When I check my plugins, add ons, for updates, there are option blocks on the right that set whether or not to "Always Activate" or "Always Ask". My question is- -for every page that opens, there is a "page info" option we can check to see/check what is allowed or blocked under Permissions ... And* what the Permission 'settings' ARE for That* page. Why doesn't EVERY page display the Permissions' settings that we have Already set on the Plugins screen*(?). EVERY page has to have the permissions re-done for EVERY domain/server/site provider. Why* aren't the settings that are set on the Plugins screen Used* AS the 'Default' for every page/domain/site, etc.? Note*- if I DON'T change the permissions to "allow", for certain plugins, the page will not work*.
Also, the "Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.450.18 10.45.2.18" still* shows as "Vulnerable" After* updating (verified update*). So I found the option to 'Disable' this particular plugin. Now it displays at the bottom of the Plugin page, greyed out. However*... after updating to Java "SE7 U45" (..for 1 [One*] day ONLY, it showed as Up-to-Date, NOT vulnerable, on every 'page info' screen*) ... and Actually, it Still Does show as Up-To-Date after an Update check*..(??)... But on EVERY page info screen the "Java(TM) Platform SE7 U--Vulnerable Plugin!" is displayed (?). How can it be Up-To-Date and OK on the plugin check screen, but show as a "Vulnerable Plugin" on EVERY 'Page Info' screen?

... But I'll try to answer some of your questions ...
1- usually, "yes"* just make sure you Trust that site (if you have anti-virus, anti-malware, etc, and run a scan every week (or so) and Haven't come up with anything quarantined or removed yet, you''re probably safe there*
2- sorry, "yes", there's Always a real danger... that's why we have the anti-everything we have (right?)
3- depends on the site*. A Lot of sites don't need java at all (except to run their ads or commercials... 'targeted' or not). Adobe Flash or Shockwave should be able to handle stuff like youtube, etc (but if it doesn't*, just go into the 'Page Info' Permissions* and Allow the [Vulnerable] Java and see if that fixes it). It more than likely will.
I think it's just a matter of Time* before Adobe* Flash, and practically Every other video app/player may be marked as "vulnerable"... like Java... because every one of them CAN carry a virus or trojan to us in some imbedded format. If JAVA couldn't find a way to stop them* (hackers, etc*) they either ..1-aren't smart enough, or 2-just gave up trying to stay ahead of them... (like the 'ad' says, some-unGodly-percentage-of-machines use Java already ... so They are making Their money*... what more do they need to do, really..?). They don't care* about us or our stuff, as long as we Buy More.... but I'm a bit jaded*.

Your first one is wrong. It is under Cross App. Components but not in an ESS node....I am sure it is a typo on your part. Anyways......
It's NOT two steps. It's just the same configuration in two places. It makes it easier to locate for instance if you are in ESS to just have it there. BUT the Homepage Framework is used elsewhere (MSS for example) as well as you can use it for whatever else you like (building an easier interface for other things) therefore, it has it's "true" place up as a "cross application component".
This is very similar to say Benefits. If you look under the Benefits config area in the IMG, you will actually see a lot of ESS settings there that are the exact same ones you see under the ESS node too.
Don't let it confuse you.
