Why No Demo Version Of FCE/FCP ?

Over the past year I have seen at least a couple of requests for a Demo version of FCE/FCP.
It would seem sensible for Apple to give away 30-Day Fully Functioning Demos to prospective purchasers.
A number of other makers do it - like Adobe with their Photoshop etc. demos - and as far as I can tell they seem pretty secure!
Is there some technical reason for Apple not providing them?
It would certainly solve the problem of those people who are not sure whether either they or their cameras could cope!
Ian.

Yes, I agree. They do the Demo with Aperture, so its not something new to them. Although I probably woldn't do it anymore becuase I already have FCE, it would be nice for prespective buyers. I guess they can head over to the local Apple Store to take it for a test run, but then you can't work on it with your own videos.

  • Saving project for all versions of fce & fcp

I have been using fce on the move for a project but now i cant open in in final cut pro hd.
Is there any way of saving the project for all versions or older versions in particular.

Final Cut is not backwards compatible, but it might help if you give the exact version numbers you're talking about.

  • So You Think Your Computer's Not Powerful Enough For FCE/FCP !!!!!

It's NOT a question - just some sobering thoughts!
How many times do we get worried owners asking whether the Mac they have or the one they intend to get will have enough power to operate FCE/FCP?
So I trawled through the history books - otherwise known as back-copies of Macworld and this is what I discovered.
Final Cut Pro was released in April 1999. At that time the most powerful Macs had the following specification:-
    G3 450MHz processors.
    OS 8.6
Couldn't find the HD size but guess it was around 20GB.
All this power cost over £2,000 !
Now I know that the latest versions of FCE/FCP have additional features, but if we disregard HD processing the latest are not that much different from the original.
So has anyone, even those that buy the puniest Mac-Mini, got anything to really worry about?
    Ian.(Who sets cats amongst pigeons).

I have a 1Ghz, G4 Powerbook w/768MB RAM and FCEHD runs beautifully. I also successfully use DVDSP2, Compressor, Cinema 4d 9.52, AE6.5Pro and RealFlow3. Motion 1 causes some crashes when I try to use particle effects and some AE based plug ins, but it does work for basic stuff.

  • Final Cut Express 4 demo version?

    Hello,
there used to be a demo version of Final Cut Express 3 - valid for 30 days with full funtionality. Is there a similar demo version of FCE 4, so that I could get started using FCE 4? Or is there a possibility to download FCE 4 (upgrade from FCE HD, and it should be legal, of course) after buying it via credit card and getting the box later?
    Thanks,
    Dirk

Sorry, didn't think of searching the forum. It looks like there is no demo version available. And the download versions seem to be illegal...
    Regards,

  • Does anyone know where I can get a free trial or demo version of FCP

Does anyone know where I can get a free trial or demo version of FCP?
    Thanks in Advance

The closest you can get to a demo version is to go by an Apple Store and see if they have it loaded on one of the computers.  In reality, there is no demo or free trial version available from Apple.

Take it back to the store from which you purchased it and ask. If you bought a new iPad it should not have Demo on the box.

  • FCE/FCP converstion

Is it possible to convert log files from final cut express to final cut pro and vis-a-versa. If so, is it possible to do this across versions, and if not, which version of FCE corresponds to FCP?
    Cheers!

What do you mean by log files? There is no batch list function in FCE for either export or import.

  • New Website Offering 10 Very Slick FCE/FCP Plugins.

Gogiangigo from the FCP forum has been developing Effects, Transitions and Generators for FCE/FCP.
These are very slick plugins which should be useful to FCE editors.
The site also has some very professional looking video demos/tutorials showing every plugin in use.
You are welcome to download the plugins free of charge but Gogiangigo will not object if anyone donates a few pennies (or more!) as the site costs quite a bit to run and the plugins take time to produce.
Donations would no doubt ensure that new plugins are developed and added.
I am sure he would be interested in hearing suggestions for new filters but don't ask for an "Instant Auto-Edit Plugin"!

An update to my original posting ............. Apparently gogiangigo had over 700 visits to his site yesterday and some 600 downloads.
In view of the interest shown, he has opened a blog where folk can ask questions or discuss current, new and proposed plugins.

I'm sure he would appreciate any input, be it help, comments or suggestions.

  • What Is The Legal Situation With Upgrades And The Original Copy Of FCE/FCP?

Imagine you have an original copy of FCE/FCP.
You buy an Upgrade and of course use your original serial number to make it work.
You then register the new product with Apple.
Can you then sell your original version and keep your legal entitlement to use the Upgrade?
This question arises from an advert I have just seen on eBay where it looks as though the seller is doing precisely that (if you read their reasons for selling).
    Final Cut Suite
    Ian.

    Hi Ian,
The answer is NO. It would not be legal for either the seller or the purchaser (assuming the seller purchased & applied an Upgrade to his original installation instead of purchasing a whole new copy with its own full license).
In the packaged software world, when you purchase an Upgrade you are only purchasing a license to upgrade from a previously legally owned & installed copy of the software. When you enter the serial number of the previous copy you are identifying that copy. Regardless of whether or not Apple actually tracks the serial numbers, your upgrade license requires you to be the continuing owner of the original license in order for your upgrade license to be valid.
Under the circumstances as they appear in this eBay transaction, the seller would legally lose both their original and upgrade licenses and the purchaser would be illegally installing a previously licensed software package.
The only way to conduct a legal transfer of license would be to deinstall the original software before selling. Of course, that means you would no longer have the software to use yourself.

  • Is there a downloadable demo version of Aperture & Logic?

    Hi,
I'm the proud new owner of a 2012 MAcBook air. Is there a downloadable demo version of Aperture and Logic? (I already installed the Final Cut Pro Demo).
    Thanks,
    DewBlue

I'm blabbering, but it'd be nice to know why Apple thinks that Final Cut Pro needs a demo version (which I already installed) but Aperture does not (I'm coming from a PC with Adobe Creative Suite).
Also, it'd be nice to know why there isn't a demo for Logic (I'm running Cubase on PC and I want to switch).
Anyway, thanks for the fast answer :-)

  • Estimated release date for Universal version of FCE-HD

Anyone have an idea when the Universal version of FCE-HD will be released? I recently purchased a new Intel iMac, mainly for video work and can't do much until FCE is released. Unfortunately FCP is just too expensive for my limited budget.

Unfortunately I don't have a purchasing track record with Apple. Actually, my last Apple purchase (prior to the iMac) was a pair of Lisa's. What do you bet the kids in the local Apple store never even heard of it. My plan at the time was to be an Apple developer, using the Lisa as a code development workstation. It never worked out in that my day job sent me to the Far East for several years and when I got back to my own software business, the Lisa was just a memory. Not having the money to retool in the Apple world, I moved over to Windows (3.0) and eventually became so heavily invested in Windows based software / hardware, there was no way to jump ship and return to the Mac. I promised myself that, once I retired, I would pack my last Windows machine to the recycle center and get myself a Mac... and here I am.
Anyway, the next time I am able to get out and around, I'll stop by the local Apple store and see what can be done, price wise. I don't hold out much hope, but it doesn't hurt (much) to try.

  • DEMO VERSION appeares in printed cert

With regards to the above subject, I am actually one of the authorized Adobe Captivate user in PETRONAS.
However, when I printed the certificate of completion for my learning module which develop using the software Adobe Captivate, I discovered that on the printed cert stated “DEMO VERSION” : Get full version on www.cpguru.com. (kindly refer below e-mail)
Therefore, I would like to enquiry, why this incident happened? What is the cause of it.

Another answer, because I understand your are confusing the license for Captivate (which has certainly be bought by our company) with the license for a widget that was developed by an external widget developer and requires another license. In this case, the widget seems to be created by Michael Lund, AKA cpguru.
Have a look at his website. AFAIK (Michael is one of my friends) he has no certificate widget, but I suspect that the original author of the course was trying out Michael's Intelligent Print widget (because the print functionality of the Certificate interaction of Captivate has not that many options).
    http://www.cpguru.com/intelligent-print-widget-for-adobe-captivate/
Either you have to take out the demo version of that widget (you should be able to see it on the timeline of the Certificate slide) or you upgrade to the licensed version.

  • Demo version lacking...

If Adobe is serious about getting me to drop 1,000 dollars for Adobe Effects CS5 they're going to have to do better than that for the downloadable demo.
I do mainly green screen work with my AVCHD camcorder.
First thing I find out is the demo version does not support AVCHD.  So how am I supposed to know whether editing AVCHD files work well in AE?  And no, I am not going to take anybody's word for it.  I've been bitten by shoddy AVCHD support before.  I currently use Sony Vegas Pro and AVCHD support is excellent there.
So, fine... I convert some of my green screen clips to png image sequences and import that into AE.
Then I find out that keylight is not even in the demo download.  Oh come, on!  Just how am I supposed to know if this is going to work for me or not?  $1,000 is a lot of money... and what can I test in the demo... nothing.  Nice going.
I refuse to pay that amount of money unless I know _for sure_ that this product is going to work perfectly for me on my box.

Rick: "Giving you more room between the original pixel values to make adjustments" - that is what applying 16 or 32 bit effects do, and you reduce color banding that way.  Transcoding original source footage from 8 into 10 bits doesn't do that - you're just spreading 8 bits over 10 and very slightly altering the original color values (no you can not remap 8 bit channels exactly into 10... if you want to know why, ask me).
By simply decompressing AVCHD footage you are in effect transcoding it from 422 or 444 or whatever YCbCr color space the footage was in, into 8 or 16 or 32 bit RGB color space, on the fly.  AE already does this.  No extra cost.  I am just merely asking for Adobe to fix a bug with their existing AVCHD decompressor that they've already created.
One possible valid reason I can think of to transcode AVCHD clips into a format that doesn't use inter-frames, is if you were splicing them and re-rendering back out into AVCHD.  Because keyframes are present in the AVCHD stream only once up to every 300 frames, if you splice somewhere in between keyframes then you are in effect forcing a re-compression of that GOP (group of pictures), creating a new keyframe where you spliced the footage and re-creating up to 299 inter-frames from the splice point to the next keyframe.  This re-compression degrades the video, obviously.  Now there are ways around that without having to do a costly and disk-heavy transcode into a space hungry codec.  Let's say that you have a long footage you want to splice away unneeded parts to save disk space.  Don't splice exactly where you intend to show the video... splice away at a point at least 300 frames before and 300 frames after the usable segment.  Then when you re-compress to AVCHD the segment you intend to use is untouched.  If you're using a decent editor, the unedited GOPs should be copied unmodified from the original source to the new AVCHD clip.
Another reason to transcode is if your computer isn't up to decompressing AVCHD clips in real time.  AVCHD codecs are very processor intensive, and most consumer grade computers will chug with AVCHD media.  However I have a pretty beefy computer, and can scrub 1080p AVCHD clips at full frame rate.
My background: I am a video game programmer, and deal a lot with codecs.  I've written a few codecs myself over the years.  I write plugins for various video editing software on the side (Mostly Vegas Pro) doing stuff like motion tracking and optical flow and so on.  Currently I am working on something that is similar to Particular.
I guess my point with this rambling is that is that my currently workflow is very nice, has low overhead, and does exactly what I need.  I don't currently need to waste a lot of time and disk space transcoding into a format that really buys me nothing.  All I need is a working AVCHD codec that doesn't mess up the decompression.  You're obviously happy with your workflow, and so more power to you.  But it's really not for me.

  • Older version of FCE?

since I am unable to install the latest FCE, does anyone know what version I can install?

There are workarounds for older Macs with "unsuitable" video cards, so even if your video card is not officially supported, you should still be able to find a way to get it to install.
However, I still have a copy of FCE 1 on my Mac, and you know? It's really a nice version. I know that it would run on your Mac. You can find old versions of FCE on places like eBay or through Amazon Marketplace. I found my copy of FCE 1 on a site called Megamacs.com.
I still think that you should be able to run the current version on your current setup, though.

  • Why doesn't version 17.0.0.169 show up in IE11 8.1 64-bit Manage Add-Ons?

KB3044132 shows as installed for Flash Player update, and the Control Panel Flash Player icon for 32-bit shows 17.0.0.169 installed (I have 64-bit and 32-bit), but the Manage Add-Ons for Shockwave is Enabled and showing version 17.0.0.134! When I check the version using Adobe it only shows 17.0.0 and not the important part, so I cannot tell if Adobe detects 17.0.0.169 or 17.0.0.134! I think I need to know if IE11 64-bit has 17.0.0.169 also. Please advise because Microsoft technical support says to contact Adobe about this. Please delete my entry in Adobe general forums, Bridge general discussion as michaelh94875078. I did not see Flash Player on the list of communities provided during my first post.

It occurs to me that maybe Microsoft will not allow their 17.0.0.169 KBitem to go out until their next update on the second Tuesday of May for their convenience and reputation! I want any update for Flash Player to be installed immediately for security. That is why I tend to use Firefox with NoScript and Web of Trust when I use a Google search. I will be watching the next Microsoft update to note if the KBitem it said was not appropriate for my computer - goes in!

    Hi michaelh94875078,
I'm sorry, I misread your previous post and thought it had been installed. From my experience with Microsoft Updates is that some times they depend on some update being installed.  I'll run Windows Updates and install all updates, then run Windows Updates again after all updates finish installing. Sometimes it finds new updates that weren't there before, and sometimes it doesn't.  You can try that route, or download the Microsoft update posted at the bottom of the Flash Player Issues | Windows 8 page.  Download the one that corresponds with your OS version. You may want to bookmark this tech note for future reference in case Microsoft Updates fails to detect the update is available for your system.
