Why no email push notification?

I'm just wondering if there is a reason why the iPhone still lacks Push Notifications for email? Sure it pushes MobileMe, GMail etc, but only vibrates rather than telling me how many emails (like SMS/voicemail etc). Or, are there any apps that can do this? As unlocking the phone only to see it's junk mail, is a real pain!

This is because it makes no sense, and you don't understand what push notifications are for or how they work. Push notifications are to substitute for lack of background function for 3rd party apps. That way you get a notice "pushed" from a server for news alerts, IM messages, etc. even though the apps they're directed to are closed. Since Mail is always functioning, there is no reason for a separate push notification for mail it already received.
What you're really complaining about is that there is no display on the locked phone screen showing the email. SMS and VM show these, but they aren't "push notifications".
If you want to suggest this to Apple, post it on the iPhone Feedback page. This is a user-to-user only tech support forum. No one here can speak for Apples decisions or policies.

  • Email push notification not working

I have z-push  working as an activesync tool for Zarafa (ZCP) in my LAN. The account is set to an "Exchange Account", with push notification working for email. The Zarafa-server has local IP-Adress (like 192.168.0.x). Email push  notification from z-push using WIFI is not working while "Mobile Data over GSM" is activated on my Iphone 4. (with IOS 5.1.1 running). The only way to get email is to open the mail client software.
Any ideas why i have to switch off data over GSM/3G to be able to get push notifiactions ?
    Thx for your help !
    Michael

Yahoo email "push" stopped working for me on my iPad (3.2) and, later, on my iPhone 3G (ios4). The fixes turned out to be different on both, but both are now working...
On my iPad, I needed to Reset Network Settings (under General, Reset). It did it's thing, rebooted, and I needed to re-enter the password for my home network. Poof... Push notices came in.
On my iPhone 3G, I deleted my yahoo account and re-entered it. Push started working right away.
Hope one of these is helpful for you.

  • Email push notifications are not working.

I'm running os 5.0.1 on a iPod Touch 4.  Push notifications are not working for email.
The only way to check emails is to go into the email app and check for updates.
I deleted my email accounts and reloaded them.
I removed all active apps and restarted my iPod and still does not work.
Fetch New Data is set to Push.
I hear a lot of problems with this but is anything beiing done?
Why would this all of a sudden stop working?

Your welcome, nice it's working now

  • Why are my push notifications expiring?

    Hi.
I received this message today and I'm completely confused on what it means, and what to do.
I don't recall setting up any certificates, so can someone please explain what's happening here and how I can resolve it?
When I try to open the server app, I'm told that it cannot be opened on this type of Mac. Lion Server came preinstalled on my Mac Mini though.

  • Email push notifications

It's been about two weeeks that my email notifications have NOT pushed to my locked screen.  Since this time I have had to open my email icon and then I am connected, then my emails are downloaded ONLY at this time.  I have not changed any of my settings.  I almost think this is timed with the new OS download.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks!

Thank you jimfitzgerald for assisting stork. Stork, have you tried to delete the e-mail from your device? Here is how: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=39569 .
Once you delete the e-mail account, add it back. Make sure you enable push notifications when setting up the e-mail account. You can do this by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Select the e-mail account > Mail should be turned on.
Let us know if that works.
    Thank you,

  • Sky Email - 'Push' Notifications for Android?

Hi, I have a new sky email address, however I wanted to get emails instantly. If I use the Yahoo app, or my gmail client, it only checks for mail every 15 minutes. Any idea how to set it up to have push notifications so I get email straight away? Thanks

If you are using the standard email app on Andriod then within the settings of the email app should be an option to change the limit, on my phone I can only set it to 5 minutes.

  • Email push notification peak/off peak app

Is there an app out there that can give you the option to control the times at which you receive push notification on email and apps in the same way that you can do this with windows mobile.
I don't know how best ti describe this, but i am sure there are several people out there that have had windows phones in the past that may have experienced this option...
For now, I have to switch off the push notification when I don't want it which works, but it would be nice if i didn't have to do this every day...

Mine is stuck with a 2. Did you find how to fix that?

  • Why are AOL push notifications not working with OS 6?

After installing IOS6 I am unable to get my AOL Push notifications to work on my Iphone4 or Ipad2.  I did try to delete the accounts and then installed them again.  After that I re-booted each device, but no luck.  Is this a problem others are having?
    Thanks,

  • Email push notification takes longer than on iPhone

    Hi,
On my iPad 3 with iOS 5.1.1 the push notifications for gmail (exchange) take several minutes to arrive whereas on my iPhone 4S with iOS 5.1.1 the
Push notifications are instantly. I have already tried deactivating my iCloud account and retting my network settings but it doesn't make any difference.
    Anybody experiencing the same issue?

Today the push notification for gmail on my iPhone was slow too. Took about 2 minutes after I've sent it. The official gmail app got it instantly.

  • IPhone 4s not receiving email/push notifications?

I have two hotmail and one gmail account on my iPhone and for the last 3-4 weeks I haven't been able to get new emails automatically without having to actually go into the Mail app to refesh. I've seen on other forums that I can move all emails to a subfolder and resend myself an email and this has not worked. Please help.

The easist thing to start off with is to check your mail fetch settings.
HT4146 About cellular data usage has step by step for a setting up your fetch settings.
Basically you want to do this:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars > Fetch New Data >
Ensure that "Push" is enabled, I think hotmail supports Push now.
    Then below, see Fetch:
Set to a time you think is good for you, remember, more often means more battery usage.
    Then below that: see Advanced,
Click into that, and click "Gmail" and ensure that is set for Fetch and not Manual.
Another article sugguests that you may also need to register the device with Hotmail.
HT1694 Hotmail, Live, or MSN email accounts
    I hope this helps.

  • Imac makes this bubbling sound to alert me on emails, pushed notifications, etc. How do I make this stop?

Go to System Preferences>Sound>Sound Effects and choose a sound that you like.

  • Selectively enable push notifications calendar but not email?

Is there a way to only enable push notifications for my calendar (Google Calendar through iCal), but not my email (Gmail account in Mail.app)? I want the Mail.app to be setup for Gmail when I want to send email links from apps, etc., but I don't want constant push notifications (otherwise I'd just use the Gmail app). I turned off the Notifications for Mail.app, but the phone still vibrates when a new email comes in.

You're confusing at least 4 different things, - push email, push notifications, notifications and alerts,
"Push notifications" are what certain 3rd party apps use to remotely send info to you.
"Push Email": IMAP and Exchange accounts that automatically send mail to the phone.
"Notifications":  Internal text type alerts when certain events occur such as receipt of mail (push or fetch)
"Alerts": Tones and/or vibrations when an event occurs
    The best I can determine from your post is that you're getting unwanted vibrations when receiving push mail - no other notifications.  If that's the case, in iOS 6 (coming 9/19);
Settings > Sounds > New Mail > Vibration > None

Does anyone know why am I having this problem and how can I fix this?
    Thank you really much!
