Why no Internet in 9.2.2

I just installed Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.3 on my Power Mac G-4. I want to alternate between my existing Mac OS 9.2.2 and Tiger. I noticed the first time I went back to OS 9.2.2 my internet was not working properly. It may load a page or retrieve my mail one time and then stops. I have to "force quit" to get out of my Netscape browser. This also happens with Internet Explorer. This never happened until I installed Tiger. Netscape and IE work fine when in Tiger. Help getting my internet running in 9.2.2 will be greatly appreciated.

In both Netscape and Internet Explorer, try emptying the cache. I'm not familiar with how Netscape makes that avilable, but for IE go into its Preferences (Edit menu), here - Preferences > Web Browser > Advanced. In the middle of that page is an Empty Now button for the cache.
It may help also for Netscape to dump its preferences file. You'll find that in the Netscape Users folder in Preferences in System Folder. Netscape also has a Cache ƒ folder in the Netscape Users folder - you might try cleaning that out.
For IE, try dumping the file named IE Cache.waf which you'll find here - System Folder >> Preferences >> MS Internet Cache >> IE Cache.waf.
To some extent IE uses the Internet Preferences file as a prefs file - among other things, it keeps cookies there - and writes to it frequently. It may be that file has become damaged; if so, throwing it away and restarting would be the thing to do. Note - the Internet Preferences file is created by the Internet control panel, and contains the settings made in that control panel. It's a good idea to note those settings down, or take screenshots of its various pages, before throwing away its prefs file.
I don't know about Netscape, but when IE freezes or crashes it does not empty the Temporary Files folder it uses (it should purge it upon each quit). That folder is here - System Folder >> Preferences >> Explorer >> Temporary Items. It would not hurt to check it.

I'm wondering why my internet access is so very slow. I have Mavericks OS X 10.9.2 on an iMac late 2013. It just starred going slowly in the last five days. My Ipad 3 uses the same apple airport wifi network and works very fast. This makes me think it is a problem with the iMac and not the modem or airport wireless router. Any ideas?

While I was waiting for a post, I started searching and discovered a post about turning off photo sharing on icloud. I turned off and my system returned to normal. Internet surfing is fast again.

Why is Internet Recovery stuck at Wifi selection?

I have a Snow Leopard MBP that I upgraded to Lion. There was a problem with my hard disk and my computer stopped starting up, so I erased my drive and then entered Recovery HD. I purchased a copy of Mountain Lion and tried to Reinstall OS X from the Recovery HD through the Internet. It seemed to be working. I left for an hour and a half, and when I returned, I was back at the Utility page (where it lists Time Machine, Reinstall, Disk Utiliy etc.) and it looked like nothing was installed. I force shut-down my computer and restarted, and when I did, I could no longer reach the Recovery HD. Instead, I can only reach Internet Recovery. However, Internet Recovery is stuck with a rotating globe and Wifi selection. I have my Wifi selected, but there doesn't seem to be anything else happening. It's just a rotating globe with my Wifi selected underneath. I will try to use a faster Internet connection tomorrow, but at this point, I am stuck. I may just have a damaged hard drive and will need to replace it, but please inform me if I can do anything else to reinstall my OS.

I think you timed out on either a slow connection or a data cap, some reason like that.
When you try again on a faster connection preferably with Ethernet cable, I think things will bode better for you, if not then it's likely bad hard drive.
As you should know IR will only do Lion, not Mountain Lion.
Once Mountain Lion is installed, it can be reinstalled via Recovery HD, but Lion is installed via IR, this way one can revert the machine back to the OS that came with it.
Obviously the machine came with 10.6, so that's what your supposed to revert it back to before selling, but Apple likely will cut 10.6 off in a firmware update and stop selling disks, thus 10.7 is what one reverts back too, thus why IR does 10.7 and not 10.8
Does it make sense?

Why no internet access after Safari reinstallation (router does)?

Since yesterday I have a massive problem I hope someone can help me out.
To start with I couldn´t email attachments since a few months. Yesterday I thought a re-installation of Safari (browser recommended by the provider) might cure that as I thought recent upgrades (recommended by apple to install) caused that problem which was not there last year.
So I downloaded Safari from apple.com. From that on I can´t get any internet access anymore (only a few minutes after the first start, then never again), even after spending 40 minutes on my providers extremely expensive hotline no solution (other than that the friendly lady told me to contact this forum). My router has internet access, and the cable between router and my Mac is definetely fine, but when I open the internet-access window, the connection immiadetely crashes always.
I checked network utilities and found no failure, I tried different ways of access via the network settings, nothing works. I assume it has something to do with the re-installation of Safari, but why on earth should the standard Safari 1.2-version from Apples own website create such a mess?
Shall I install firefox? Shall I dump the Safari-version installed yesterday and install a copy of the updated version from my office computer instead? What else could cause the problem? Are my network settings wrong? Should I log in via "manual" or DHCP (the provoders hotline told me I should re-type PPP settings. Though that is clearly to see a no-option with Ethernet she kept telling me so. Isn´t PPP only for modem-connection?), or via PPoE? Or shall I re-install the router?
I would be more than glad if someone could help me.

We can keep it in English as its an english speaking forum and therefore non-germans who might have the same problem could participate. If for you German is better I´m fine with it. Most settings on my Mac are in German so if it becomes too specific, german is anyway necessary.

Why is internet Explorer . . .

. . . chosen, automatically by the computer, to open my facebook exporter plug-in (to transfer images from iphoto-5 to facebook). Actually it is chosen just to login, and I get an incompatable browser/facebook message and cannot procede. I have safari, why does it not use that browser instead? It is what I usually use. Internet explorer is on my computer because I use to use it. Should I dump it?

Why does internet slow or stop when bluetooth is on?

I've recently started using a bluetooth headset so have been leaving bluethooth on. But I noticed 3G (AT&T) Internet is sometimes VERY slow, almost unusable. I never had this problem before. If I turn off bluetooth and restart the phone, internet is back to normal most of the time. Wifi is not affected.
Note I am not trying to do tethering or anything like that.
iPhone 4s, 5.01, 5gig available, Data usage at 28 or 31 days is 850mb of unlimited.
The signal bars are almost always full 5 bars with the 3G lit but very poor service. This morning it is working fine with bluetooth turned off.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what I might do to fix this (besides leaving the bluetooth off) ;-)

I tried all the suggestions... at this point I have wireles and bluetooth turned off. After I restart I'll only start facebook app or browser to a few sites (yahoo, google, etc.) and the throughput seems to be all over the place.
Facebook will error out, then work fine. I'm having trouble coming up with clues as to why this would all of the sudden start happening.
Is it possible I'm being throttled?

Why is "internet" flagged as miss-spelling in Indesign but not auto-corrected?

when the entire support system for Indesign exists on the internet, why is this word not recognised by the Indesign inbuilt dictionary?
Further, I have auto-correct set to ON! Yet it's not correcting this to whatever it assumes is the correct spelling. Given that the listed suggestions when middle tapping are "Internet" or "INTERNET" why is it not auto-correcting to one of these? It's not like it could be some other word I'm trying to type.

I'm guilty of being a little "new school" in this regards. I type a lot, mostly explaining stuff and demonstrating stuff, and illustrating points and ideas, thoughts and concepts, structures and paradigms of approaches and **** like that. Really utter nonsense, more than anything... and I utterly rely on spell check auto-correct. I actually use it much more like an Auto-Complete than autocorrect. Such is my reliance on it.
There's a certain joy to structuring words to a space, that's part of a design vanity and aesthetic that means little to few. But those times that I've used that approach in Indesign I'm stuck wondering how my spelling is doing. Because my spelling, mostly, sucks.
It would be REALLY nice, to have an option, apart from these other options, to use the OS (in this case Mac OS X) spell check throughout Indesign, in addition to the and concurrent with the custom library of personal spell corrections. In this manner it could be like Microsoft word, in the sense that the auto-correct of Indesign can be used like a "macro" and the OS auto-correct (which I've trained heavily to my words and way of expressing myself) can be running "as normal".
I find it a little strange that a layout program doesn't have this ability to use the host OS's spell check, because I can't be the only designer that's both using the layout features of Indesign and generating the content that goes into that layout. And it's completely undesirable to be swapping between a word processor, or even the inbuilt editor of Indesign, when I would much rather see my words go where they're going to be, live, and auto-corrected in whatever manner I choose.
But, there you go. My two cents on something it appears nobody else cares about, thinks about or works like.
As to programming, yes, I fully understand, the words and phrases and keywords from that... you'd need a while to train word processor style environment to deal with that. I have often wondered why code editors don't learn from the auto-completes of word processors, and vice-versa.
I really like the way Xcode does Objective-C suggestive completion, for example. That's unbelievably fantastic, particularly for someone like me that knows very little programming and even less of Foundation and CocoaTouch etc. I don't have to keep going back to the docs, just need to start with the first few letters of the method/class and go from there... it's basically helping me write the line from there.
Imagine a word processor like that...

I sometimes think that my mac mini is so slow when I use Internett.
There is a norwegian page that I have tested it on... and the answere was alarmin:
My pc had a connection of: about 4000 kbit/s connected to wireless and airport express... and about 6000 with out wireless.... hmmmm I tested it many times...
My mac mini (which is in my livingroom) had a connection at only 919 kbit/s????
why is it sooooooo slow???? can I do anything to speed it up????

That was great advice, I have been unofficially been working in WiFi for my school and this is one of the most clear responces I've seen from discussions. Anyways some things that I do believe that you forgot was cordless phones 2.4Ghz range, microwave ovens, DSS (Direct Satellite Service), Electrical things like power lines, Other airport/WiFi stations, and moving objects made of metal between the computer and base station. Those are all broad things. Usually things like that won't effect it but it really depends. For the cordless phone you just need to change the channel on the airport. I hope that helps, Good Luck!

Why is Internet Explorer 8 Not Recognizing Video on CS4?

As we use Macintosh iMacs we cannot validate IE 8 on our CS4 Dreamweaver.
But looking at a PC earlier we saw that IE8 did not recognize the video on our web page.
We checked it at http://validator.w3.org But there was no given reason why.
Does anyone know why? It works on Safari, Firefox and Opera.

Microsoft's web browsers are bad. Very bad.
But they all work with Flash if you have a Flash plugin and most people using Internet Exploiter download Flash. Problem is, that won't work for iPads.
If, what you are trying to do is use HTML5, it simply won't work with a Microsoft browser. It will work with Webkit (Safari and Chrome) and will not work with Firefox until Firefox supports a video standard (which they won't until someone comes up with an Open Source video Codec).
So Flash is still pretty much it.
What I'm looking to do is to go with HTML 5 and do a detection for Internet Exploder and Firefox and offer a Flash alternative for them. I don't have an example yet, but I'll be looking at ways to do that.

Firefox will not download journal articles (PDFs) from PubMed. Why? Internet Explorer will download them.

I go to the USC e-journals, as I have done with Firefox for years. Now, when I find a journal article that I want and try to download it, nothing happens. I get a blank screen.
If I use Internet Explorer, I can download the article (PDF) and print and save it.
What do I need to do in Firefox to fix the problem. When I first uploaded the newest Firefox I did not have this problem.

Hi Joe, some other users have reported that the Real Downloader is not working in Firefox 22. If you have updated it and it still doesn't work, you might consider using a different downloader. I don't have any personal recommendations on that, but you can check out the reviews on the add-ons site:

Why is internet radio not showing up on itunes 11.1?

okay, so at the top where it shows Song,Albums,Artists,Genres and playlists, there is not internet...i'm pretty sure there is supposed to be. I just updated to itunes 11.1.

Needs to be turned on.
