Why no more support for AppleScript?

I am a graduate student, and I need to be able to cite sources easily. In the previous version of pages, I was able to use Papers2 to easily insert citations and build a bibliography. Now that function is no longer available. Until it returns, I will have to use word, as creating citations myself is a royal waste of time. Does Apple have any intention of bringing back this function?

Who knows?
Until they do why not go back to Pages '09 which is in your Applications/iWork folder and rate/review Pages 5 in the App Store.

• Why no SyncML-support for Harmattan??

I've used SyncML on my N95 with memotoo.com for years. Worked very well. I took it for granted that SyncML would be supported on the N9. But alas, it isn't. I find that really incomprehensible. Worse yet, CalDAV syncing with memotoo doesn't work - I don't know who's to blame for this, but on the desktop it works flawelessly so I do have a suspicion. Even worse: there is no way to sync contacts using CardDAV.
MeeGo (the true MeeGo) has SyncML-support out-of-the-box. And the N9/N950 does have SyncML-support for bluetooth.
Yes, contacts syncing is supported for Ovi. And Google. And Facebook. But I do NOT want to use those services, because of grave privacy risks and because they use yet again some proprietary protocols.
I wonder, what where they thinking at Nokia for NOT supporting some well-known open standards??
(While I'm ranting: why is there ^%@$ Facebook and GTalk-support over XMPP, but no self-defined XMPP account?? Yes, you can add such accounts from the terminal, using mc-tool, but really that's just a kick in the teeth. And where's UPnP/DLNA-support?)

Hey Guys, Did you figure out any way to do PIM sync via SyncML on N9?
I am struggling to get things moving as I come from N8.
N9 just doesnt have any way to sync calendar, tasks with Ovi. Same with Notes.
Best Regards,

• No more support for Tangent CP200 panels?

Have Adobe decide to drop support for Tangent CP200 panels?
The IP address configuration is no longer if preferences
Why?
Speedgrade was my only hope!
Will I have to learn and buy Scratch then?

The mappings are still there. I am looking at the tangent .xml file right now in speed grade, and it clearly says CP-200. The tangent.xml is a hidden file with in speedgrrade. Here is a section from that file.

• Why no firewire support for new iPods?

If firewire is so much better and faster why did the geniuses at Apple decide to discontinue support for it? It took me over 30 minutes to upload music & videos to my new iPod w/ USB, which would have taken 5-10 minutes with Firewire. I don't get it!

They did it because they obviously didn't see the need for it.
Either you have a usb 1.1 port, or have about 500mb of music. The speeds aren't that different between USB2.0 and FW. In fact, i think USB is faster. Stop complaining here, this is only a user-user support forum.

• Why no RAW support for the Fuji FinePix HS10?

This camera is well over a year old. Why is there no support for the RAW file?

It is definitely not only Fuji. I used a Panasonic Lumix FX-150 before that has been supported by Adobe Camera Raw for quite some time now. I replaced that camera by a Lumix LX5, but I see that the FX-150 is still not supported by Apple Camera Raw and probably never will.
If you want wide range RAW support, use Lightroom. (Not to say that Aperture doesn't have its strengths, e.g. support for geocoding.)

• Why no RAW support for Fuji X10?

The Fuji X10 has been on the market for almost a year now and there still is no RAW support for it in Aperture. Why?

Only Apple can asnwer the "Why?" questions, I'm afriad.
Aperture menu -> Provide Aperture Feedback and let them know you want it.

• More support for Designer PDFs on Mobile

Looking at the number of posts here, it is clear that LiveCycle Designer is a very popular application, though I am not sure whether Adobe senior management are aware of this fact.
Hardly surprising - little in the way of competition, and Adobe's own offerings - Acrobat XI and FormsCentral - just don't offer the same combination of ease of use and powerful form design features.
It is also clear that many, many people who are using LiveCycle Designer are not using it in connection with the LiveCycle server products - so cannot choose to render the form as Flash/HTML5 - they have to rely on the PDF format.
Why then is it so difficult for Adobe to produce a Reader on Mobile that supports Designer PDF forms? - as far as I can see, even if I save an ES3 form as a Static PDF, users are unable to complete it using the latest Adobe Reader on Android.
I'd actually say that non-server linked use of LiveCycle Designer has increased in the last couple of years - but this is not going to continue if there is no way to - easily - get the form usable in Adobe Reader on Mobile.
I don't think that Adobe realise that by seeding technology like this at the 'cubicle dweller' level (i.e. available to an individual geek/bright spark even if the company has not bought into the server technology) actually does often lead to the company making that 'big purchase'. In short, middle managers get to see some of the great work that Mike/Martha has been doing in his/her cubicle, and slowly but surely news of the efficiencies progress up the food chain until someone is convinced enough to sign off the big server purchase.
From past experience, Adobe have shown that they don't understand this way of marketing their technology - they seem to rely on glossy ads aimed at C level execs, ridiculously high entry-level prices and making these prices hard to even get hold of. Well, if that was such a bright idea, why have they made such slow progress with (and even scaled back) LiveCycle.
Some of the LiveCycle tech is really great - e.g. LC Rights Management and Barcoded Forms - and they should have gotten far more penetration out there. If Adobe want LiveCycle to thrive, they need to change their ways.
And if anyone has a solution for Designer PDF forms on mobile (even static ones), please share. Thanks

• Why is Verizon support for Backup Assistant so limited?

Folks, I have wasted a whole day looking for a solution to this problem. Perhaps this posting will save someone from wasting their time.
After over an hour on the phone with two customer support people and a wasted hour at the local Verizon corporate store, and endless hours searching for an answer online, I am at a dead end. There are hundreds of reports in these forums about problems with Backup Assistant (BA). There are instructions on the Verizon website that indicate BA will work if you follow the steps. It just ain't so. Seems to me all Verizon cares about is selling the latest and greatest smart phones.
Here's the story. Backup Assistant was working on an LG VX6100. It is a tedious program, but at least contacts could be backed up when it worked.
Today I transferred the 6100 to a new number for a family member, and activated an LG VX8300 for myself. The first phone customer support person directed me through the same steps numerous times and just couldn't believe that the menu options they spoke of were NOT on the phone. I was finally turned over to a second customer support person who directed me through exactly the same futile steps. I read them the same error message over and over again. It was: "Unable to retrieve catalog. Please try again later (3332)." Then I was directed to go to a Verizon store in town for help. Another useless venture. I brought along the following instructions which I found in one of the forums here:
https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/826595#826595
Correct Answer Re: VX8300 "No Application" Message, also an Error (3332)

This response several months ago from MikeS_VZW - there IS a fix but as rep may have to look to find it -
We hear your! I have posted several things about not being able to access the Get It Now catalog on some older devices. Before, there was no way to get your access back to the catalog. You had to upgrade to a new device if you did not access the catalog between September and March 25, 2011. There has been a lot of feedback about not being able to access the catalog, so we made it possible to get it back.
Here's what you need to do to get your Get It Now access back on your older phone:
1) Ensure you are able to access other data on your phone (go to settings & tools> My Verizon or My Account) this does not charge megabytes, but does connect to data. This will ensure other data is working.
2) Make sure you don't have blocks on your line that is preventing you from accessing the Get It Now catalog (app blocks, etc.)
3) Take it into any Verizon Wireless corporate store (authorized dealers/premium retailers will probably not have this ability).
4) Explain your issue to them. If you are getting error 3332 when you bring up Get It Now, let them know.
5) A representative will plug your phone into a computer and flash the certificate/update onto your phone (we have articles in our information database to walk them through that if it's their first time.
6) Enjoy having access to your Get It Now catalog again!
This is new information. Before, the only option was to get a different phone. I know this sounds cheezy, but we do hear you. Lots of feedback came about due to this change, and although we tried to be proactive as possible to alert the affected users, there were some that fell through the cracks. Feel free to PM me or call customer service at 800-922-0204 for further information about this.
Good luck! And note it specifies CORPORATE STORE - that may be why you weren't getting anywhere before. Use the Store Locator (top right of your screen) to make sure you are dealing with a corporate rather than "authorized reseller".
The store clerk read it. After dinking around with the phone for 15 minutes he said he thought a software update for the LG VX8300 might help. He took it in the secret back room, and came out a few minutes later and said that they didn't have the latest version because the IT people hadn't made it available to them and probably wouldn't because the phone was an older phone. Apparently anything older than 4 years is ancient in Verizon's eyes. He suggested I might be able to get it directly from LG. He also said I could bring in the VX6100 and maybe they could transfer the contacts directly from it to the VX8300 if they could find a cable. However, that still leaves me with no Backup Assistant. That was that.
LG does indeed have updates available online, but it requires a special LG USB cable which I do not have. For instructions visit

http://www.lg.com/us/support-mobile/lg-VX8300
Ideas, anyone?
This whole ordeal does not make me want to commit to a 2-year contract that comes along with new equipment.

I noticed that you posted this a couple of months ago... I just activated an old VX8300 as well and am having the same error messages. Did you have any luck getting it figured out?
I agree with you as well. I am getting married in June and do not want to upgrade to any kind of data plan for 2 years and after we get married we're switching to Sprint, not this Verizon garbage with the worst customer service that only cares about screwing people over in this terrible economy. (Sorry, enough ranting from me, just curious if you ever got it fixed? Thanks!)

• Why no boot support for external USB HDs?

I found this after laying out cash on a Lacie 160gb Porsche drive - i Carbon Copy Cloned my startup disk onto the external, go to start-up disk in Sys Preferences, and choose the shiny new drive. It doesn't boot.
So I search and find this:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106474
My questions:
1. Why is USB booting not supported by OSX?
2. Is there any workaround?
thanks in advance,
Mike Power

thanks foir the replies, everyone. Even though firewire is faster, i thought at least apple would keep abreast of latest technology and create USB drivers that can handle prevalent technology.
I don't intend running my mac from the external HD permanently, only in emergencies when I have a hard drive failure on the laptop, so I couldd clone the OS across using drive genius or Carbon Copy and save hours of installation, and downloading updates to software.
Does anybody know anything about using the "burn image from" and "restore" commands on Disk Utility? Is there a disk image size limit? <derails own thread into tangent>
that way, I could simply burn an image of my laptop to the USB drive, and if all else failed restore it from the OSX install disk using Disk Utility.
All this because Apple have failed to supply working drivers... feels more like windows every day!
thankss to anyone who can answer this or earlier questions.

• Why HP remove support for msata drives in the ENVY 15t - q100 ?

The previous models had msata support, but the ENVY 15t - q100 (the one with no dvd drive) has the space for a msata drive, even with the screw hole but they remove the slot from the board. This is a $900 laptop, why they did that?

@Emanu526 ,
Hello and thank you for posting on the HP support forums. So that we can best support your issue please post back with the full model and product number.
HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
As well please check out the following link before posting back.
Advice for asking the "Very Best Question"
As for changes in BIOS or configuration I am unable to comment on that. Each model is created based on a constantly changing market requirement and the engineers and design people would be the only ones that can answer that question.
Thank you again for posting and have a great day.
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!
Also be sure to mark my post as “Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others who face the same challenge find the same solution.

• Why is no support for raw file of fuji x10 from Apple ?

I have waiting for sometime for the update to support fuji x10 raw file from Apple. Please make it happen .

We can't. This is a user to user forum. You can sign up for a free online developer account on http://developer.apple.com/ and submit a bug report on http://bugreporter.apple.com/
You can request Fuji to do the same.
You can check the complete listing of RAW updates on:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
If you look there the x100 is supported, but no x10 for Lion. So the chances of x10 on Snow Leopard support is that much more remote, since Apple typically builds on their support with each new operating system.

• Please more support for the IPTC Headline tag!

The use of the IPTC Headline tag (as opposed to the Title tag) is being discussed in posts back to 2007.
Basically it's weird that Lightroom supports the Title tag with filters and search function whereas the Headline tag sees none of that treatment.
Per definition the Headline tag
"... is a brief, publishable synopsis or summary of the contents of the photograph. Like a news story's lead, the Headline should grab attention and summarize the image's content. Headlines must be succinct. Leave any supporting narrative for the Description field. Do not, however, confuse the Headline term with Title."
whereas the Title tag
"... can include a shorthand reference for the image or “photograph” - primarily for identification. The title of an image should be a short, human-readable name - text and/or numeric reference - and may take several forms. For photographers, this might be the filename of their original scan or digital camera file. For news organizations it might be the name of a story it accompanies. The Title term should not be confused with the Headline term, which is a short synopsis of the photograph's content."
These definitions should make it fairly clear that the Headline tag needs at least the same tools treatment as the Title tag has.

• Why such poor support for iCal?

On the first two pages of this forum, only TWO questions are marked as answered (My own question has been viewed 36 times - no responses at all). Many of the questions refer to fairly serious 'buggy' behaviour by the iCal application. By doing a little Googling, I have found many similar complaints elsewhere, going back several years.
It seems that Apple has a rather unsatisfactory application here. Why is this not being fixed? Does anybody know of any impending major updates that will produce a calendar app without the kind of problems encountered on this forum?

These forums are user-to-user. Apples involvement is limited to providing the platform and monitoring for adherence to terms of use (which your post probably violates!).
Marking of questions as answered is something that has to be done by the question poster. One of the great frustrations of answering questions here is that original posters frequently fail to give any feedback at all on answers, so other visitors don't know if the answer could help them, and the helper doesn't learn how to give better help.
As for unanswered questions, you must remember that the answerers are just ordinary users. If I, for example, had seen your original question, I would probably have decided not to answer it (I have now answered it with a request for further info) as I don't use invitations myself and so have limited knowledge with which to help you. If someone answers a question, and is not able to help, there is a smaller chance that someone who might know the answer will look at the question.
As for bugs, two points. First, there are millions of users for whom iCal performs satisfactorily. Second, this is not a bug reporting site, so if you don't use the OS X Feedback site, or better the developer site, it doesn't register on the developer's radar.

• L10N: Why is implicit support for Thai numbers, missing from DateFormat

If a Locale happens to have different characters for representing numeric digits from 0 to 9, then the year received back from formatting a date shows the characters for the year in the localized form as well.
For example, the following code:
Locale hi_IN = new Locale("hi", "IN");
sdf=new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy", hi_IN);
rptDate=sdf.format(new Integer(2009));
sysout.println(rptDate);produces the following output:
१९६९But running the same code for th_TH locale produces 2552 which doesn't have the Thai digits applied to it and I think that it should really look like: ๒๕๑๒Perhaps this is more of a Localization (L10N) question rather than internationalization (I18N) so please feel free to point me to the correct forum.

You can specify "th_TH_TH" locale to display digits in Thai. For more detail, please take a look at
