Why no movies available in Canada?

I would like to download movies but itunes in Canada doesn't seem to offer them. They are available for itunes U.S store, but when I went there and tried to download, I got a message telling me to go to the Canadian store. Does anyone have a solution or suggestion?

The lack of Movies and TV shows is not unique to Canada by any means. I believe the plan that was announced when the Movies were introduced is to roll them out to other stores sometime this year. However whether or even if the Canadian and UK stores etc. get them in 2007 will depend on the negotiations with the film distributors for each region. The varying content is not imposed by Apple, who would have a much easier job if they only had to maintain one multi-national store and deal with one set of licensees.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

ITunes store item availability in Canada

I realize this isn't really the right place to ask this, but there is no where else to go! I want to buy a movie that is available only on the US iTunes store - not listed as available in Canada. My question is - can I get around this somehow (and I suspect the answer is no). As a supplementary query, I guess I want to know WHY I can't buy a movie in Canada.... Who makes these decisions and why?
And while I'm at it there seems to be no way to find out from iTunes (Canada) when or if a movie or TV show is going to be available. Anyone with any comments, suggestions?

Your suspicion is correct; no, you can't get around this. The content owners do not allow cross-border sales, so Apple is forced to restrict each country's iTunes Store to those in that country.
As a supplementary query, I guess I want to know WHY I can't buy a movie in Canada.... Who makes these decisions and why?
Whoever holds the distribution rights for Canada makes that decision, and the Canadian media companies have been notoriously reluctant to allow any US-based company access to sell content in Canada.

Hey guys get ducks in order, I'm a small business owner, I need smooth native apps or built in's that help make money for me, your voice recognition is terrible at best for my Z10, especially when my job relies heavily on making hands free calls to clients, my old 9900 worked well when you had to say numerous commands to adapt to your voice or am I not seeing that this phone does this as well, if so why do I have find it!? As well, I like others are faithful early adapters to BlackBerry, but now, getting impatient as a other devices and OS's are becoming more appealing.

PS/ if you get where the future is going most business are going to move to 2 devices for employees and owner operators that have partial integration, and the only thing that keeps you BlackBerry afloat is the "sense" of security is use, the second device will be for social and leisure...think about it.

I am really addicted to a TV series that is only available in Canada. I was wondering if I can purchase the series and watch it on my ipod. It sent me to itunes Canada but won't let me purchase it. This is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Why are we not able to purchage a digital series from Canada? I found this because I had the same question. I did not understand why it would not let me purchase. Seems they would want us to buy it - makes more money for them.

2 factor authentication avail in Canada?

Two weeks ago I started the process of using 2 factor authentication on my AppleID. Today I received an email saying that the waiting period is over and I can proceed. According to this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5570 page I should see 2 factor authentication under Password and Security page. Well I do not see anything re 2 factor authentication. Apparently that happens when
" When your country is added, two-step verification will automatically appear in the Password and Security section of Manage My Apple ID when you sign in to My Apple ID"
In other words it appears that 2 factor authentication is not available to Canada. Sigh if this is the case then why allow me to initiate the process and then email me to tell me its available when its not???

I have a couple of AppleIDs. Both have Cdn addresses registered.
One started life as a mac.com account. It got converted to an AppleID when mac.com folded years ago. It don't use it much. That account has the two-factor authorization available. i haven't enabled the feature, but it is available to me on the Password and Security page.
The second is my primary AppleID account. Two-factor authorization option is not visible on that account.
The lack of 2Factor on Canadian accounts has nothing to do with difficulties in dealing with the wireless carriers or SMS aggregators, as suggested by mjdl above. It's purely an Apple administrative issue.

HT1600 Update version 6 not available in Canada?

After turning on AppleTv 3, it said update available and started to download something. After about 20 min. a message came saying update failed.
Checked under Software Update in General, it said Software up to date, however checking the software version # revealed #5.xx.
What gives?

It's more to do with the fact that the 6.0 update has been made unavailable due to some issues some users have experienced. I gather then, that in-between your ATV telling you there was an update available, and you trying to download it, the update had been withdrawn temporarily. Don't worry about it, carry on, as you were. When it next notifies you that there's an update available - wait. Wait a while before updating. Check this forum to see if there are any reported problems before making your next move.

Why Are Movies Disappearing?

I was so excited when I updated my Apple TV on Wednesday night. I looked through all the movies available, and was thrilled to see one of my favorite movies of all time was available for rent in HD, Blazing Saddles! I called a couple of friends and scheduled a Blazing Saddles party for Saturday! I didn't rent it then, because I wanted to show off the whole process to my friends on Saturday.
When I checked again on Friday night, the movie was no where to be found in the rental selections. So I had to call off the party. Way to go Apple. Way to make a great first impression. I was all stoked to see it in HD on my Apple TV. Now I am just let down.
Any reason why Blazing Saddles was pulled? Will it be available again sometime?

I tried renting Blazing Saddles immediately after I had updated my AppleTV the night of it's release, and got an error that the movie was no longer available. So, you most likely would have never been able to rent it anyways.
As for people wondering about Blazing Saddles being in HD, it was one of the first titles released for HD-DVD and Blu-ray. It is mostly only TV shows and low-budget indie flicks that were filmed on magnetic tape. The "major" studios all use film. A master HD transfer is done from film and then stored digitally. The transfer used for HD-DVD/Blu-ray and for Take2 are then created from the new digital master. If you ever purchase a Blu-ray player be sure to buy or rent "Grand Prix" to see just how beautiful an old movie can look with a new HD transfer. Also notable: Blade Runner, Forbidden Planet, and Casablanca.

Rentals are one-time only downloads, they will not show on other devices/computers for redownloading.
If you rent a film on your iPad or Apple TV then you can only watch it on that device. If you rent it on your Mac then you can move it from there to your iPhone or your Apple TV (if it's a first gen Apple TV) : FAQs about renting movies from the iTunes Store :
If you rented the movie on your computer, you can move it to an iOS device or Apple TV (1st generation). To do this, connect the devices and sync using USB. When you move a rented movie from your computer, it will disappear from your computer’s iTunes library. Welcome to the Apple Community.
First you should try logging out of your iTunes Store account (settings > iTunes Store > accounts) and then back in again.
If that doesn't help, try resetting the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings). You should also try restarting your router.
If both of the above don't help, you should try a restore (Settings > General > Reset > Restore).

I have 38 movies showing in my library but only 23 are showing in the Movies tab on the Apple TV. After researching this a little, there are only 23 movies showing under Purchased in the Quicklinks of my i-Tunes account. The majority of my collection are digital copy downloads that came from DVD purchases. Some of the missing movies were added in the past couple of months, the rest are a year-or-so old. I have done some looking around at questions from others, but I have not found an answer that will fix my situation. How do I update my library to get ALL of my movies to reflect that they were "Purchased"(as it says they were in their Properties)?

Thank you for that post, and the advice. I just happen to be one of those who it does work for. I've been around long enough to know that CC isn't going to work for everyone(the large publishing/radio/web company I work for isn't upgrading to CC because of the costs involved). But it does for me as I potentially venture out into the full-time freelancing world and away from the more structured big office environment. I can't make decisions based on what is best for anyone else, or what will hurt or help Adobe. Just what affects me, and that's all.

IWeb 08 / Aperture 2 / MobileMe albums "No albums or movies available"

I've searched the forums and there doesn't seem to be a resolution for this. It seems the issue has been known about for quite some time now; hard to believe Apple is just ignoring this.
basics:
I created MobileMe albums via Aperture 2. I open iWeb '08 and go to insert the album and get this message: "No albums or movies available"; this message also appears via the Widget add. The albums are NOT password protected.

Well I have found a work around... Though others need to test it as well as me.
Log into me.com and open the gallery you prepared in aperture.
Select the "Adjust the settings for this album" button at the top, then select the pop-up that says "Syncs with" and choose "iPhoto" instead of "Aperture".
Press "Publish".
That's it, the gallery now appears in the iWeb Widgets list!
Also it still syncs with Aperture, both way

If it's not available in your country and you do not have a copy of it in iTunes backed up on your computer, you don't.

I believe the apple should be universal in all the products and a small island like Malts should have the same products for sale on ISTORE like of the UK and USA.

The iTunes and App stores are inherently different in different countries. Local laws on copyright and other limits on the distribution of intellectual property make it impossible for Apple to simply put everything in every store. Sometimes, the owner of the intellectual property does not allow it to be distributed everywhere. Keep in mind that Apple does not own the music, books, movies and such that they allow for sale in their store front, so they do not necessarily have any say in what may, or may not appear in what store.
