Why no PeopleSoft Froum???????

I have complained about the PeopleSoft report writer for years. Their report writer is even worse than writing a macro in Excel (and having it work). I have used SAP before -their report writer beats PS hands down, any time, every time.
I have used report writers in ADP, Ceridian, and other applications. All were (and are) better than the PS Query Manager.
I am not a computer programmer, programmer analyst, developer, or whatever term is currently in vogue. I am just a person that wants to access a database and get desired results, without going crazy, or spending 8 hours trying to write one little report. I have had both those experiences, and I still have not created the report I want.
It's rediculous that in this day and age, any software be so difficult to use. Sadly, PS report writer (Query Manager) is a cumbersome, extremely hard report writer for this simple city boy to use.
I know this is an Oracle forum. I apoligize for using it to talk about an Oracle product that most of you probably do not use, and given your general elevel of expertise, might find it not-so-bad. If there were such a forum IN PEOPLESOFT, I would raise the issue there. There is no such forum, sadly.
Peoplesoft seems totally devoid of any real sense of customer service or support. It's extremely frustrating to use their software.
I called the Oracle customer support, was given an email addy to write to, sent a complete description of my problem, and 2 days later received a "we don't handle that here, you need to log a case" email, and they didn't even tell me where or how to "log a case"!!!!
Sorry for my little rant & I hope somebody "hears" my suggestion (that they create a PeopleSoft user forum).
Peace.

You may want to post this request in the Community Feedback (No Product Questions). OTN folks monitor that forum-- this forum is almost all third party developers.
Logging a case probably means that they want you to file a TAR with Metalink. If you don't have a Metalink account or your Metalink account doesn't have the privileges to log a TAR, you would have to contact your organization's Metalink admin (your DBAs should know who this is).

  • Limitation with CI?

    Hi,
I am trying to use a delivered CI : GP_ABSENCE_EVENT, to pull data from the database and insert into the record GP_ABS_EVENT. this works fine when doing a simple insert, however, all the component peoplecode logic is based on Rowinsert() peoplecode function and how it affects the activerowcount of the grid in the component. I found the following limitation in peoplebooks:
*"Note. If a component has logic that inserts rows on a RowInsert, the component interface cannot identify the change and locate the rows that were inserted by the application code. Generic interfaces such as Excel to Component Interfaces utility and the WSDLToCI will not function correctly when using this type of dynamic insert."*
I am not using Excel to CI, however the above statement clearly says that CI cannot detect changes done via rowinsert() used in application code. I am not getting the desired results and this may explain this issue. However, then I fail to understand why Peoplesoft has delivered the CI on this component if it is not supposed to work?
    Appreciate Any suggestions!!
    Tools: Peopletools 8.48.12
    Application: Peoplesoft HRMS 8.9
    database : Oracle 10g
    Vikas

    hey Sameer,
    Ok, here is the issue:
data is passed from State records to the collection(using insertitem), and the component is saved. If you add a row online, then it executes some logic online, and in some cases, breaks the existing records in the grid into two or three rows and inserts all of them. However, when I try the same using CI, all this component peoplecode logic seems to fail, and I only get one row inserted(which I passed from the staterecord).
When I see this limitation mentioned in peoplebooks, and look at the component peoplecode(it is a record level saveedit peoplecode actually), this peoplecode is heavily based on utiliying rowinsert() function.
This is when I thought may be there is an issue; but then why would peoplesoft deliver a CI for such a component!!

  • The Help Link from the Application Pages Does not Work for Peoplesoft Campus Solutions 9.0

    Hi everyone.
I have a problem, I have been trying to set up the Help Link from the Application Pages for Peoplesoft Campus Solutions 9.0 according to the instructions given in the Document: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17566_01/epm91pbr0/eng/psbooks/EnablingtheHelpLinkfromApplicationPages.pdf ,  (referenced in the Doc ID 1289101.1, E-PB: How to Set Up the Context Sensitive Help with Hosted PeopleBooks using Universal Linking).
I follow the instructions of that document carefully:
I go to: PeopleTools -> Web Profile -> Web Profile Configuration
        2. Then I choose the Web Profile: "Development".
        3. Then Change the value for the Help URL field by entering the following URL format: http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?id=%CONTEXT_ID%&ctx=hrcs90r5 , the ctx parameter selected is the one that correspond to  the Campus Solutions (hrcs90r5) according to the Product Line Code Table (ULinkID) especified in the mentioned document.
        4. Stop the Web Domain and Clear cache.
        5. Start the Web Domain again.
After setting up the Web Profile Configuration I test the help links, thas is why I click in the Help link in any Peoplesoft CS 9.0 Application Page (modify a person), but the next error message appears: "We're sorry, the topic you requested was not found.".
I tried many combinations with the ctx parameters URL but it does not work yet.
I did the same test, but this time using the Help URL field with a HRMS ctx parameter by entering the following URL format: http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?id=%CONTEXT_ID%&ctx=hcm92pbr5 , and It works fine !!!
According to the previous test you realize that It works with HRMS ctx parameter but not with Campus Solutions 9.0 ctx parameter,  Does anybody know what else can I do ? Am I doing anything wrong or missing? or maybe the Oracle's ctx parameter for Campus Solutions URL It is broken simply.
Thanks for you help and feedback.

2799444 - The page you are testing with appears to be a Workforce Administration page. Is that correct?
The CS PeopleBooks would only work for CS pages, e.g.: try navigating to Main Menu > Campus Community > Personal Information > Add/Update a Person
Also, you can use multiple ctx parameters:
    E.g.: http://www.oracle.com/pls/topic/lookup?id=%CONTEXT_ID%&ctx=hrcs90r5&ctx=hcm92pbr5&ctx=pt852pbh2
This way the help would work for the HR related pages like Workforce Administration, Campus Solutions pages like Campus Community and also PeopleTools pages like Web Profile Configuration. Hope this clarifies your question. Thanks!

  • Using OCX in Peoplesoft

I need to use OCX in peoplesoft. I want to know how to do it ?
The peoplesoft is installed in Linux environment, can I call OCX ?
What's the step to make calls to OCX ?
Where the OCX file needs to be on the server?
    Thanks!

Hi Manvar and welcome to OTN.
May I ask why you want to use OCX? As you may know, OCX/ActiveX controls are only applicable to Windows Platforms. Oracle has no plans for ActiveX support over the
web, and Forms6i is the last version with client/server support. You may also know that Forms6i is desupported since January 31 2005. Programming something with OCX/ActiveX will only make the upgrade burden harder.
JavaBean support in Forms 6i and above provides similar functionality.

  • PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 OVM in a single VirtualBox guest machine

Following a suggestion from Jim Marion in an earlier post in this forum, I started installing the PeopleSoft HCM 9.1 OVM using a single VirtualBox guest. The PeopleSoft OVM appliances are delivered as two separate virtual machines, one for the DB and another for the PIA/App-Batch. Since I am running on a 4 GB RAM laptop I wanted to conserve memory by installing on a single virtual machine.
As I was starting to figure out the changes needed in the configuration scripts, for example creating a symbolic link instead of an nfs mount for PS_APP_HOME, I got a surprise. Lo and behold, the good folks at Oracle had already thought of this! In the oraclevm-template.sh there is an environment variable VBOX_SETUP that is set if the script detects the existance of both PS_DB_HOME and PS_HOME. This triggers the installation of all the tiers -- DB, App-Batch, PIA -- on a single machine. With a few tweaks I was able to get a fully functioning HCM environment with a single execution of the setup script.
The starting point for installing PeopleSoft OVMs on VirtualBox is these two blog posts:
    [url http://jjmpsj.blogspot.com/2012/05/converting-peoplesoft-ovm-templates-to.html]
    [url http://jjmpsj.blogspot.com/2012/06/converting-peopletools-ovm-template-to.html]
Since I was only using a single virtual guest I mounted all the file systems at once. Here are the entries (excluding the System images which are only mounted temporarily as explained in Jim's blog posts):
    in VirtualBox:
    SATA Port 1: Oracle11gR2.vdi (Normal, 4.41 GB)
    SATA Port 2: HCMDB.vdi (Normal, 26.38 GB)
    SATA Port 3: Tools.vdi (Normal, 11.25 GB)
    in /etc/fstab:
    /dev/sdb1               /u01                    ext3    defaults        1 3
    /dev/sdc1               /opt/oracle/psft/ptdb   ext3    defaults        1 4
/dev/sdd1               /opt/oracle/psft/pt     ext3    defaults        1 5I commented out the ovm_set_password and ovm_configure_network steps in /u01/scripts/db-reconfig.sh since I had manually set up a static IP on my guest. (Note: this script no longer bothers checking for or setting up oracleasm so you don't need to worry about that). I also uncommented the DEBUG_PSFT_OVM variable in the /opt/oracle/psft/vm/oraclevm-template-utils.sh script. Doing this bypasses the root password reset and networking configuration in the oraclevm-template.sh script.
I modified the .bash_profile script for psadm1, psadm2 and psadm3 to use the ORACLE_SID that the setup script discovered based on the contents of $PSFT_DB_HOME/oradata and added $PS_HOME/setup to the PATH for COBOL compiles:
    # psft env vars
    export PS_APP_HOME=/opt/oracle/psft/pt/apptools
    export PS_CFG_HOME=/home/psadm2/psft/pt/8.52
    export ORACLE_BASE=/opt/oracle/psft/pt/oracle-client
    export ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/11.2.0.x
    export ORACLE_SID=HR91C323
    export TUXDIR=/opt/oracle/psft/pt/bea/tuxedo
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$TUXDIR/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/lib
    . /opt/oracle/psft/pt/tools/psconfig.sh
    export PATH=$TUXDIR/bin:$PATH:$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PS_HOME/setup
    export LANG=C
    export COBDIR=/opt/oracle/psft/pt/cobol/svrexp-51_wp4-64bit
    export PATH=$PATH:$COBDIR/bin
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:$COBDIR/lib(Just a note on the beauty of VirtualBox: I didn't figure out all the above in a single step. But by taking some snapshots of my virtual machine I was able to go back and start over with a minimum of fuss.)
I still had a few errors after I got a clean run of /opt/oracle/psft/vm/oraclevm-template.sh:
<li>The app engine VERSION program failed because it didn't pick up the PS_SERVER_CFG variable. The variable is set in the script so I'm still trying to figure out what happened.
<li>The ovm_dbusers.sql failed on a couple of statements with insufficient privileges. It is run as SYSADM and may need to be run as sysdba.
<li>The ovm_ib.sql script had a unique constraint error on an insert into psibsvcsetup. Since the row already exists this should probably be an update.
These were minor issues that were easily resolved after the instance was up.
I have started making changes to further reduce the footprint of the VM: lower weblogic min/max heap size to 128m, don't start PSAESRV in the batch server, don't start Analytic and Query servers in the app server, lower the sga_target and pga_aggregate_target in the db server, etc.
These PeopleSoft OVM templates are a fantastic way to get started with an up-to-date, well configured PeopleSoft application.

    Hi,
To keep all my peoplesoft servers on a virtual environnement i will use Oracle Database 11.1.0.6 for x86_64 (64 bit) with Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.2 template and install on it the peoplesoft CRM. it's a good idea ? Yes, why not.
But you could also want to minimize the number of virtual machines running in your env by adding the CRM database into the existing Peoplesoft OVM database server, check if there is enough space to host this CRM db in addition of the running HR db, if not you could increase the space or add a new disk.
and which files from http://edelivery.oracle.com i should use to install peoplesoft CRM database ?
You'll only need to download PeopleSoft Enterprise Customer Relationship Management 9.1 application, part number V17881-01 from "PeopleSoft Enterprise - Customer Relationship Management 9.1 Media Pack".
sorry for those question i'm still beginner in peoplesoft. No problem, Peoplesoft is not so easy software anyway.
    HTH,
    Nicolas.

  • Java Script in PeopleSoft

    Hello Folks,
I am new to PeopleSoft. I would like to know what are the scenarios to use Java Script in PeopleSoft (PeopleCode) and why to use java script when we have peoplecode?
    Thanks!

    Hello All,
Peoplecode is used to perform business logic checks for your application while javascript is used for client side validation.
So there could be situations where you can use the Peoplecode and Javascript.
    Lets take an example :
Suppose you have feild on a peoplesoft page and the check is that the value entered in this feild should not be greater than 100.
Using Peoplecode this check can be implemented on feild change event, Which will execute on the server and will take processing time.
Using Javascript it can be done very fast without making any call to server.
So its better to use javascript in this situation.
    Hope it clearifies your answer.
I would be providing a detailed post on the same at [http://peoplesoftnet.com]
    Regards,
    Anand

  • Oracle VM 3.1.1, Oracle VM Server, PeopleSoft Templates and networking

I have installed Oracle VM Manager on an Oracle Linux x86_64 system, all freshly installed, and two Oracle VM Server 6 systems also freshly installed. These three servers are each connected to two networks. One is a 192.168.15.0/24 ("net-A"), and the other is 10.8.15.0/24 ("net-B"). net-B also has the fileserver for the repositories et al directly attached. "net-A" is connected to the outside world. This is all working great; all servers can intercommunicate, can be reached from other devices on each network, et cetera. I can ssh from any machine on the network to these machines, and vice versa. All servers correctly use the internal and the external DNS, and can communicate with Google, et cetera. Excellent!
Now, I have downloaded the templates for PeopleSoft HCM9.1, and PeopleSoft PeopleTools 8.52, and have successfully created Virtual Machines from these. The VMs start up and run successfully, and I have gone through the startup configuration prompts using the Oracle VM "Launch Console" feature.
My problem is that I have not yet figured out how Oracle VM Networking is supposed to work, and so I cannot get these machines to talk to each other nor to the outside world. And I cannot ping them from other devices on the network, either. Obviously, there's no advantage to having a PeopleSoft server running when one cannot attach to it. I've read through the documentation numerous times, and I've pored through http://itnewscast.com/chapter-7-oracle-vm-networking-8021q document over and over, but I get lost in the virtual-upon-virtual-upon-virtual world. Maybe (probably) it's me, but I am not getting how this fits together, and where/how the virtual-ness of the network ends. Plus, all of the configurations in that itnewscast.com Chapter 7 article involve at least one switch (virtual maybe? not clear!) between the VMM and the VMS, and I don't have a switch invoved in this network... it's flat, with everything on the same wire.
My Oracle VM network is super simple at present: There is exactly one network ("ps-net"), and it runs all five network channels (server management, live migrate, storage, etc.). Both servers are on this network, and the NIC used is the "net-B" NIC. There is no VLAN, and the IP addresses are set by DHCP. Bonding, the configuration display says, is Not applicable. Since these devices are on the same NIC as "net-B," I provided the 10.8.15.x network information when prompted, and assigned them fixed IP addresses on that network. For "gateway," I specified the address of the VMM, not knowing what else to use. And, as I said, these VM don't talk to anything, not even to each other.
My needs are very simple. The shame is I've built all this up for the express purpose of running those two templates, and it's been a battle, to say the least, to get this far. Who can point me to the error of my ways, or a better way to accomplish this end?
Thanks for your time, and for reading this far!

OK. Out of desire to resolve this, I have completely removed the 192.* network from this configuration, by disconnecting the eth0 networks, and changing the ifcfg-eth0 to ONBOOT=no (yes, I know either action should suffice).
So there is exactly one network involved now. (Greg King said that's OK, if scalability is not an issue, and if he said it, I believe it. I'll complicate it later, after I get simple working.) And one VMS is out of the configuration for now. So I have ora-vmm at 10.8.15.49 ora-vms1 at 10.8.15.47, and the fileserver at 10.8.15.50. ora-vms2 is at 10.8.15.48, but is down for now. The server pool address is set to 10.8.15.1. The network looks like this:
    ID: 10.8.15.0
    Name: ps-net1
    Channels: all
    Servers: ora-vms1, ora-vms2
    Selected paths: ora-vms1 Port (2) (eth1), ora-vms2 Port (2) (eth1)

The important parts of ifconfig output from the guest (which I must manually type since Launch Console provides no copy/paste functionality) are:
    eth0 Ethernet, HW Addr: 00:21:f6:00:00:11
    inet addr: 10.8.15.101 Bcast: 10.8.15.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0
    inet6 ...
    UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST ...
    RX Packets: 11 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX Packets: 101 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    RX bytes:620 (620.0 b) TX bytes:10592 (10.3 KiB)
    Interrupt:14
Ping to 10.8.15.47 (the server on which this guest is running) is successful
    All other ping attempts fail.
This is where I am, and why I'm confused. Can anyone help me understand why this guest can only talk to its "host?"
    Thank you.

  • Peoplesoft Master process scheduler PSMSTPRC

    Hi,
We have PSMSTPRC active on the PSUNX server in prod, i noticed that the psmstprc service is active on the Unix server
Prog Name Queue Name Grp Name ID RqDone Load Done Current Service--------- ---------- -------- -- ------ --------- ---------------
    BBL 45761 skpkpsf+ 0 53981 2699050 ( IDLE )
    PSMONITORSRV MONITOR MONITOR 1 0 0 ( IDLE )
    PSPRCSRV SCHEDQ BASE 101 0 0 ( IDLE )
    **PSMSTPRC MSTRSCHQ BASE 102 0 0 ( IDLE )**
    PSDSTSRV DSTQ BASE 103 24596 1229800 ( IDLE )
whereas while i checked the PIA online - process monitor - server list - It says N for PSUNX as MASTER.....
I can reboot the process scheduler to fix the issue for now... but would like to understand if someone else has come across this and why does it happen
    Peoplesoft - 8.50.09 / DB oracle - 11.1.0.7 / tux - 10.3.0.0 / OS - AIX ...
    Please revert thanks....

how many prcs do u have.
lets say, u have 3 process schedulers. one on unix and two on windows. all 3 are configured to be master schedulers. master scheduler shows "Y" to the one which ever comes online first. rest are backup master schedulers. in case your first MS drops, second in line MS becomes "Y"
Say u have only one scheduler, this shows either your config has been corrupted.check ur OS if this is certified platform for all the products installed.
try to delete the scheduler completely and redo the scheduler from scratch. do not copy anything from the previous files.
    Thanks

  • Missing jar - BOE XI3.1 SP3 IG Kit for PeopleSoft with client comp option

    Hi Team,
I have successfully installed  BOE XI 3.1 SP3 in our Linux m/c and while installing Integration Kit for PeopleSoft in Windows m/c selected with Client Computer option the Kit shown the message unable to find pscafinstall.jar from BusinessObjects_Home\Common\Java\Lib directory.
Could you please advise why this error happening, how to resolve this and the impact of this error?
    Thanks
    Balan.P

Try doing a complete install, and make sure you're running the install on all the necessary machines.   There is content to be installed on your CMS as well as your application server at least.    Is this all on a single box?   Are you sure the name of the jar you're specifying is correct?  There is a partnercafinstall.jar and a cafinstall.jar that the installer will install.

  • Peoplesoft Enterprise portal question

I am an end user of Peoplesoft enterprise HRMS portal. Login page of our companies HRMS portal expects username to be typed in Uppercase,
I am wondering why the developers didn't intend to do a string conversion in the code, instead of expecting the user to type the USERNAME in UPPER CASE?, Any ideas? why? - or isnt it possible?
the source code of login page had java script in it,

PeopleSoft user names and passwords are case sensitive. The reason you have to enter it in upper case is because your organization decided to create your user ID's as upper case.

  • Java and Http posting through Peoplesoft.

Hello everyone, not sure if you can help, but any input or ideas would be appreciated because I ran out of ideas.
I created a java file that connects to a xyhtos server (WebDAV connection). The reason of this project is to be able to upload files to the xythos repository via peoplesoft pages. Uploading the files is fine and works great.
My problem is getting a ticket from it. (A ticket is a string that is appended in the url of the document that is being requested without having the user login to xythos). To get such ticket I need to send login information to the server via a post method. The userid/password needs to be sent through a string that is base64Encode.
When I execute this method the xythos server does not receive login information.
Now here is the strange part, if I execute the same Java program from a Unix command line, with the same parameters, it performs beautifully.
I'm wondering if there is something extra that I need to do when running this java program through PIA. Or if the peoplesoft server needs to be configured a certain way to allow such methods.
If you need me to be more specific or anything that could help you help me, please post. I'm desperate.
    Thank you.

HI Jim, thank you for replying.
Unfortunately I can't tell exactly how it's posting because I'm using a package created by another department I work with. If I need to upload a file, delete a file, create directories, all of that is fine. The only trouble is requesting a ticket from xythos. I think for that function it is doing an http post, but not positive. The response I get from the server is
    <html><title>Error 401</title><body>
    Error: 401
<BR><H1>Forbidden</H1><BR>That action is not authorized. Please ensure that you are authenticated.<BR>
    <p><p></p></p>
    </body></html>
I just don't understand why through the command line of unix it works and PIA it doesn't. Very strange.

  • Why App Server Deosn't Start When Internet Connection is On

I have installed PeopleSoft FSCM 9.1 and Tootls 8.52 on my laptop and I can work with the application without any issues when internet is disconnected from my laptop (starting web server, app server, process scheduler and working with tools and application is fine) but app server doesn't start and I cannot work with application when internet connection is on. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem on my laptop with tools 8.50. I solved it by creating an entry in my local HOSTS file that represented my local PC (ie 127.0.0.1) and then used this new hostname in all my peoplesoft configuration.
AS to why it does this.... I never investigated.... but this for me at least did clear up this issue.
    good luck
    Graham
