Why no Save As?

Apparently you have to be nice! So any discussion of why Apple would remove the most common function of all word processors in the world, is not permitted.
Let's be NICE then.... this is a common fuction that has been removed and it is costing my company lost time in productivity. We can't find files, we can't sort through "duplicates" and "versions". Common practicies our employees have used on all computers are now not compatible with three of our office systems.
We upgrade to Lion 10.7.4 to get icloud for our phones and ipads, and lose productivity in our office due to lost functions in a word processor.
Apparently Apple doesn't want us to think for ourselves.
Is there as way to restore this common function to Pages???

That doesn't help the issue. Strange command options won't fixt the fact that people in the real world move back and forth between several computers. Why would a fundamental function such as this be changed? So the person who works with several computers must save their work one way in MAC Lion and another way in MAC 10.xx? then yet another way in windows?
The easy answer is to do away with MAC. My company doesn't have time to consently be adapting our work patterns to the whim of a programmer in California who has never worked in a typical office. This is causing lost productivity.

i load a jpg file , add an adjustament layer levels -> file -> save as -> select jpg and the as a copy is disabled

See if the keyboard shortcut Alt+Ctrl+S adds copy to the file name.
That's the old photoshop shortcut for save as copy before photoshop 6.
I should add if you were to flatten your file before Save As, then the copy box should be
available and that should add the word copy to your file name when you check
the As Copy box.

Why does Pages no longer have a "save as" function. The Duplicate feature takes several more clicks to accopmplish and when I try to rename in the dialogue box at the top it never sticks. Is there a work around?

The option key is your friend to find Save As... The other issue you raised:

Do you mean rename in the title bar? Clicking on the document name (Fred) brings up this menu:
To rename (as Joe):
Type the new name and then press enter. Simply clicking away won't "make it stick".

Why is 'save as' greyed out when opening a document from outlook?

I cannot save a pdf document when I open a pdf attachment from outlook.

Why would I want to add extra steps to a process that is performed many times daily as routine. The purpose of the program is to view the file, and then save it in a permanent file.
There are always workarounds, but why not make the program perform as intended?

Why does save get greyed out in ID CC after a few commands?

Hi everybody,
I'm trying out ID CC on an iMac running OS X 10.9.2 and after a couple of commands, the save, save as, undo, etc just get grayed out.
I've tried restoring the preferences, restoring permissions, reinstalling CC after a complete clean with adobe CC cleaner tool, created a new user account, exported to .IDML to cleanup the file, and so on. I think I've tried every step out there....all the updates are in place and the bugg still persists.
When I restart ID it works normally for a couple of minutes, sometimes more, other times less, and then it goes back to the same behaviour.
Does anyone know why this is happening or have any other ideas on how to fix it?

Can you mention the exact version of InDesign CC that you are using.
Also can you mention what steps you are performing that makes this issue come up. That will be helpful for us in reproducing the issue internally and investigating it further.

Why is Save to Web greatly increasing my image size?

Hi! I am starting with a 6 inch by 6 inch 600 pixel TIFF image. When I use Save to Web to create a JPEG, it decreases pixels to 72 which is what I want--but the image size of the new file shows as like 20 inches by 20 inches. I know that the original is untouched. Should I be ignoring the image size here? Here is my concern. I want the viewer to see the complete image. Is Save to Web truly jumping up the image size here? If I email myself the image---I do see the whole picture. I am concerned that the new file says 20 inches by 20 inches. Will a recipient be receiving a 20 inch by 20 inch file that might not be viewable on their screen. Hope this makes sense--confusing to me! I have read a few websites that say when using Save to Web just focus on the pixels--not on the image size. Why is image size showing as much bigger than original? Thanks!!!

SaveForWeb is just removing the resolution value (600), and the image loads at the default (72).
Web browsers don't care about resolution, just the number of pixels - which remains the same.

Why Open / Save dialog for a download file does not work in IE

have a problem of opening the file downloaded in IE. However I am able to save it to my desktop and open it. I am not able to directly open it when I click on OPEN button.
when I do some research, I have found that the file is getting saved at . C:\Documents and Settings\skadiy000\Local Settings\Temp
where as IE 6.x is looking at .. C:\Documents and Settings\skadiy000\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\some new folder
Working well with Firefox 3.x.
I am using Spring 2.5 with Spring WebFlow 2.0.3 and JExcel.

I've used the file browse item in the IE6 environment in the past, and I'm using it today with IE7, without any problems, so I don't think this is an IE bug. I also don't think it has anything to do with the popup blocker, as the save window is a modal one, and not a popup.
I can't think, right now, of any specific security parameter that will prevent the opening of the save window, but if the other computers you tried this page on, are all connected to the same network (for example) I would start looking there.

Why is Save As box for downloading files opening to random directories?

In version 9 when I performed a download of a file the save as dialog box would prompt me for a save location per my settings. I would select a directory to save it to and save the file. When I saved another file from the same site it would default to the same directory I previously saved to. Made things much faster. Since the upgrade to version 10.0.1 the directory the save as dialog box opens up to is completely random. It does not matter if it is from the same site, same page or the same site different page. I cannot get the dialog box to open in the same (previously used) directory. This is incredibly annoying, more time time consuming, and a definite downgrade from every previous version. What can be done?

Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.

Why is 'save bin as an album' grayed out in pse 13?

I'm trying to save my opened files in my bin as an album and the option is grayed out. I'm using pse 13. I don't have this problem in pse 11.

Why to save standard texts in customization requests only?

I have copied standard text of SAP SCRIPTfrom one system to other development system through the report RSTXSCRP.But I want to save the standard text in Transport Request.
I have tried to do it by using report RSTXTRAN.But Its asking for customization request.
Is it mandatory to store the standard texts in Custimization requests itself?Is it not possible to save it in workbunch request?

Hi Harika,
No we can save Standard texts in BOTH Workbench request and Customizing request. It will work.
But in to save a Standard text in a Workbench request, the Sub task type has to either Development/Correction or Repair

Why is "save as draft" missing

What has happened to "save as draft". It is not present when I try to customize toolbar. It was such a useful tool when one was interupted during composing email.

It's no longer needed. If you are writing an email, Mail constantly saves the state. If you close the email before sending, it'll ask you if you want to save it as a draft or discard it. If you quit Mail before sending it, it'll reopen the draft when you next open Mail.
Use either the Cancel button or CMD-S to Save as Draft.

I can't figure out why my "Save for Web" is grey.

My pic is 450px by 450px at 73 ppi in RGB. I have always been able to save as a png or gif for my website work on my other older version of protools. What could this be caused by???

One reason could be that your image mode is 32-bit. ??
If so, Image > Mode > 8-bits.

Why is Save as . . . resulting in extra large jpgs?

Until recently when I saved a 1000px x 1000px file as a jpg at 10 in CS6 on a Mac with Snow Leopard, the resulting file would be about 600-700k. Now the same process results in at file twice that size, about 1.2-1.5 mb. I have tried everything I can think of to find the source and correction for this phenomenon. Save for the Web works normally.

Yes I do embed the color profile, srgb, just as I always have. And no I have very little in the metadata.
A few days ago, I updated cs6 and then read that the update makes changes in files to accommodate the new retina displays from Apple, which I do not use (I have a NEC). My copy of cs5 behaves normally; it is only cs6 that creates larger jpg files. Perhaps I need to uninstall, reinstall, and not update?

Why is Save tabs in archive as MAFFS ZIPPED not working?

I have tried to save all my tabs, or selected ones, using the "Save tabs in archive as MAFFS ZIPPED" option. It didn't work, although it worked till recently. When I click on save, the download function starts, but it never ends. Although the download is never completed, I also noticed that the file being created is only 234 bytes, whereas an old MAFFS file I had created a while ago was 4.21 MB. Is there anything I can do to download my tabs into a ZIPPED MAFFS file?

Could you try updating your extensions? It may have been a while -- that particular extension was updated in February.

Why is Save As PDF not in print dialog

When I click the print button and the dialog comes up, Save as PDF is no longer there as an option. It does come up if I use Chrome so I don't think its my computer.
