Why no "Subscribe to Podcast" capability in Apple TV 2.0?
I want to be able to subscribe to a podcast from my new Apple TV 2.0 (just purchased this week) and have it kept up to date for me without me having to have a subscription to it from iTunes on one of my computers. I am disappointed that this capability seems to be missing from Apple TV 2.0. I know for other media you don't want the Apple TV to be the only place it resides, but to me, these podcasts are ephemeral. I watch them, I delete them, and I don't need backups of them. If something went wrong with the Apple TV and I lost some podcasts that were on there, I don't care. I primarily got the Apple TV to simplify obtaining and watching these podcasts, so the lack of this capability is (almost) enough to make me want to return it ...
I agree completely. The whole point of podcasts is that you subscribe to them, forget it, then return later....voila! You have new content waiting for you. The fact that you have to keep going to the podcast directory or favorite podcast list to download the newest episode ruins the whole idea.
The way Apple TV deals with podcasts is analogous to having to call up the New York Times every time you want the newest paper delivered. What gives??
I'm aware of the fact that I can subscribe to podcasts in iTunes and set my ATV to sync with my laptop, but isn't ATV supposed to be a standalone device now? My whole reason for purchasing an ATV after the update was that I thought this was a way I could free up some HD space on my laptop and keep all the big media files like video podcasts on the AppleTV alone. I'm pretty disappointed that I can't.
I should have stuck to what I was doing before: using Miro to aggregate podcasts, then plug my laptop into the plasma with a DVI to HDMI cable.
Apple please fix this in version 2.1 so I don't feel like I just wasted $330!

Subscribing to Podcasts from Apple TV
Is there any way to subscribe to podcasts directly from the ATV?
I subscribe to a number of HD video podcasts and watch them with the ATV. I would like to get them to go straight to ATV so I wouldn't have to fill up my computer hard drive with videos that I also have on ATV. I would like to find a way to leave them only on ATV.It would be nice to subscribe via the Apple TV so that you could spot what you haven't listen to/watched yet, but the direct streaming without downloading/iTunes involvement is very nice.
One thing I still see, the list of available podcasts is not current, which is surprising. For example, Mahalo Daily shows "How to Speak French" as the most current version, but my iTunes subscription shows a more recent one called "How to Propose," which came out last night. It's one day behind. The same is also true of the TWIT show, "Daily Gizwiz." One day behind from the one I have in my iTunes library. You would think Apple would be pulling these lists from the same source as iTunes, but apparently the refresh for the Apple TV version is less frequent than the iTunes refresh. Hopefully this will be corrected soon. -
Users can not subscribe to podcast
I have had several people tell me that they are receiving error = 9006 when they are trying to subscribe to my podcast. When I went to go investigate I noticed that if I hit Check for Available Downloads that the cue would turn on and off in a second. If I went back and selected subscribe over again it will go through the motions, but won't actually subscribe. I've had to actually go in and manually select get episode in order for it to download correctly.
Since it has taken 3 days to post my latest podcast, I was wondering if there was an internal issue with Apple, or if this is something that I need to rectify?

Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to lend.Feedvalidator is pointing out the player that I have inserted in my blog. I'm assuming that Feedburner picks it up, and that for some reason feedvalidator is pointing it out. Also, the double link does not exist in code I currently have setup.
I am currently using Smartfeed within feedburner, the XML feed includes all of the items you are pointing out (sans the duration), so I'm not sure why iTunes isn't picking up on the information.

I am honestly very green at this (if it isn't obvious) and would like to set things up correctly. Any guidance you can provide me would be greatly appreciated. -
Streaming iOS Podcast audio to Apple TV
When streaming audio from the iOS Podcast app to Apple TV, I lose the ability to adjust the volume of the playback on my (6.0) iPhone 4. This only happens with the Podcast app. I can stream audio from Downcast, Safari, and the Music app to Apple TV and adjust the playback volume on my iPhone.
I also have an Airport Express. The iOS Podcast app, along with all the other apps mentioned above, work as it should with Airport Express.
iOS Podcast seems to have a problem with Apple TV.I seem to recall reading, somewhere, that video streaming is limited currently to the Videos app; iirc, they're still working through rights and other issues with other potential users.
Don't have ATV and am currently feeding our tv using component AV cables, so don't pay a lot of attention to these issues.
Out of curiosity, though, why would you pick this forum instead of the AirPlay one to be looking around and posting in? -
Is "Advanced|Subscribe to Podcast..." better than via iTMS?
Am I right in thinking that if I subscribe to a podcast via the subscribe button I do not link directly to the podcast's feed but to an Apple server that redirects me to the feed, and that there is a significant delay between a podcast appearing on the feed and it's appearing on Apple's server, whereas if I subscribe manually via "Advanced|Subscribe to Podcast..." I link directly to the feed and hence get my podcasts all the sooner?

Apple runs an extra review pass on XML feed files that can result in a podcast no longer updating in the store. Maybe the author adds an iTunes tag incorrectly or something like that.
Also, Apple does appear to cache some of the more popular podcasts. This does often result in a delay in seeing new podcasts compared to using a direct Subscribe URL. But it can also mean that those podcasts download much faster for you since they come from an Apple sponsored location.
For a couple podcasts I now subscribe to both the iTMS feed and the podcaster's direct feed. When the iTMS feed starts working again, I'll unsubscribe from the direct feed.
The bottom line is that podcasts come from a variety of sources and you need to check the podcaster's web site now and then to make sure your feed hasn't fallen behind for some reason. -
Why do my itunes podcast settings keep resetting?
i originally set my itunes to download new podcasts every night at 12:15 am, so i could get news podcasts from the previous day if i missed it, but my download time seems to randomly reset itself to different times of day. sometimes early morning, sometimes mid-afternoon, sometimes in the early evening.
when i readjust the download time, it randomly resets itself again.
i know it can reset itself if there's a power outage, but why does it keep resetting itself randomly?So after the subscriptions disappeared yesterday, I resubscribed to Democracy Now! and Bill Moyers Journal.
This morning, I went to check iTunes... and two of the subscriptions were gone -- AGAIN! And the episode of Democracy Now! that remained behind was now listed under real Tim with Bill Maher.
I'm getting so frustrated with this... why am I having to re-subscribe to podcasts every day now? -
ITunes podcasts mess up Apple TV
I like Apple TV, I really do. I also like using iTunes on my Macmini to download podcasts and then sync those podcasts to my Apple TV. That is so cool.
What I do not like is the fact that Apple TV seems to crash (yes, crash) when playing content that I download from the Itumes store. Why in the world does this happen?
Specific example:
I like to watch the ted.com podcasts. Many times the podcasts turn all pixelated and blocky, then I see an apple on the screen, and then I wind up at the Apple TV main menu. Looks like a crash to me. Question: why in the world would any iTunes content crash an Apple TV? btw, don't even think of downloading and syncing the ted.com HD podcasts. I have never seen one of them work on Apple TV.
Help.There are known issues with the TED podcasts, issues that the producers have acknowledged. Many of the podcasts that are produced on itunes are produced without the AppleTV in mind and will only work with itunes. If you have specific examples you should contact the producers of the podcasts to alert them to their limitations.
I did contact the good folk at TED. I received a reply that all of the TED podcasts, including the HD podcasts, are being re-rendered to be compatible with AppleTV.
I have downloaded some of the TED podcasts that have been newly-rendered, and they all play fine, even the HD TED podcasts.
In fact, all of the other quirky issues I was having with AppleTV (as I described in this thread) have ceased to occur. It looks to me as if the playback of the old TED podcasts pushed the AppleTv into some sort of unstable state. Since playing the newly-rendered TED podcasts, I have not had to restart the AppleTV in days. I used to have to restart it a few times each evening. -
"Network connection was reset" on attempting to subscribe to podcast
I tired to subscribe to podcasts tonight, and none of them work. When I click any of the 'subscribe' buttons, I get the error dialog reporting the following:

Make sure your network connection is active and try again.
Here I am posting to this forum, so there's nothing wrong with my network connection. What gives?

Message was edited by: aggiebenI was unable to download episodes from a season I purchased. It kept giving me the same "connection has been reset" error message. But I went and clicked on support under quick links in iTunes and it allowed me to start downloading from that screen. I didn't have to go into anything, it just automatically popped up that I had items to download and asked if I wanted to download them. I clicked on it, it prompted me for my password, and then started downloading them instantly.

Why don't my podcasts delete when I've listened to them. I have them set to do that on my phone and in iTunes but with the app they now stay there until I manually delete them.
I let them completely finish but still they stay on my phone presumably clogging up valuable space there and making it harder to find the unplayed ones.
Why oh why can't we have podcasts back in with our music on iTunes - now I can't listen to a podcast and then when it finishes let it just go onto play music - have to swap apps. God, I hate Apple sometimes when they make something worse and tell you it is for you own good. And yes, I know all big companies are the same....See:

In what bookmarks folder are the bookmarks located that you try to search?
You can click the "Show your bookmarks" button that is positioned next to the star on the location/address bar to get a drop-down list with the bookmarks.
Only bookmarks that were created by clicking the star once and that haven't been moved out of the Unsorted folder can't be reached directly.
You can also open the bookmarks sidebar via that drop-down list or use the Ctrl+B shortcut to have the sidebar where you can use its search bar to find a bookmark.
For easiest access you can move a bookmark the the Bookmarks Toolbar folder and have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible.
*"3-bar" Firefox menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
*View > Toolbars<br>Tap the Alt key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
*Right-click empty toolbar area -
Unable to subscribe to Podcasts anymore
Hi all, I recently moved my iTunes Library to Users / shared folder and ever since have not been able to update or Subscribe to Podcasts.
When I attempt to update an existing Podcast a small exclamation mark appears along side the podcast folder.........I'm a big Podcast user and am really missing them, does anyone have any suggestions to solve this?
RegardsI found this article from Apple http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300870#mac24 it claims the problem is either:
(a) out of date software (I updated 7.6.1 and I had the problem before and after the update)
(b) keychain problem (I've verified my keychain, and also logged in manually without any luck)
(c) My ISP is blocking traffic (I posted on the IGN Mac forum and another user is on the same ISP in the same city with no issues)
I really hope it's not the ISP, Apple points to a document (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106439) I should use to help my ISP configure their servers correctly - yeah right, like my ISP is really gonna do that! -

why is it not possible to install apple remote desktop (from appstore bought earlier) on my new imac 21?
hello Dahveed, thanks for your reply, i solved it with the help of the migration assistant from another mac - now it works (but before as more info: for my new imac it was not possible to install apple remote desktop from appstore (the install-button not available, the same as installed already...) - and i don't know why...? - is it possible that the reason is the number of owned macs?)

SimonFirst question that I am not clear on your answer about: Is the Apple ID itself a valid email address, and the same one that you have as your Primary email address on your account? If the actual Apple ID is not an email address, then that is why you are not able to sign on to iCloud or to verify it....it must be an email address.
If it is an email address then:
Update your OS to the latest version - 10.8.5
Once you have updated, reboot the Mac and then go to Preferences>iCloud and try to sign on with your Apple ID again.
Check Manage your Apple ID to make sure that your Apple ID/Primary email address is verified.
If the problem persists, contact iCloud Support to see if they can provide you with an explanation of the meaning of the message. If the Apple ID has already been verified, then I'm not sure why you would be getting this messge:

After updating to ITunes 11 a while back, I am no longer able to watch TV shows on my laptop. If I try to watch an episode, it freezes and then skips forward randomly. I have a Windows 7 laptop and I didn't have any problems before ITunes 11.
