Why no video playlists????

I was so excited to have the big screen for watching videos on the iPhone, but due to the lack of syncing with video playlists, like is available on the iPod Classic, I've given it up as simply too hard to be bothered with, and I've gone back to carrying my iPod Classic as well as iPhone.
What's up with this? Why is the iPhone such a big step backwards as a platform for video?

There is a way round this that I have posted elsewhere. As long as there is at least one music track in a playlist, you can fill the rest up with TV Shows, movies or whatever. You can then play them from the Playlist menu on your iPhone and watch back-to-back in either portrait or landscape as you please.
Rather than dropping in a real music file, I just created a completely empty music track in Garageband by creating a new song, then immediately exporting it to iTunes (calling it "Blank Track"). I then place this at the end of any video playlists I create.
When you come to sync these playlists to your iPhone, you have to remember to select the appropriate playlist in both the Video and the Music section in iTunes. If your playlist only has movies in it (e.g. Star Wars episodes 1 to 6), then you need to select each of those movies in the Video->Movies section and also the playlist in the Movies section.
I hope all that's clear. It's pretty ridiculous though, and Apple should allow us to sync whatever playlists we want to the iPhone and play them from the Playlists section without the above rigmarole.

  • Why does Video playlist appear empty on my iPad?

I created three different playlist (videos) on iTunes on my iMac. I tried syncing the playlist on my iPad2 so that I can select playlist and have it play continuously. As a result, playlist shows up in Music App but they're empty. The videos show up individually in Video App and no option to create playlist, so I cant play continuously. Mind you these playlist are cartoons for my daughter so when she wants to watch Barney i just wantbto select it and let play. Now, what I don't understand is that I synced my iphone3G and the playlist do show up in my Music App and work completely fine as well as individually in Video App. Why do the playlist Sync correctly on my iPhone but not on my iPad? Or why isn't there an option to create playlist in Video App? Apple has such great technology but something so simple as a playlist went right over their head. I don't get it.

videos do not appear in the music app
The video app does not support playlists at this time.
Doesn't appear (based on threads posted at least), to be a high demand feature.
You might check the app store for an app that does this, but off hand I'm not familiar with one.

  • I have an ipod touch 4th generation and have just recently downloaded the new update. I was wondering why the videos that I had added in my playlist won't show up.

I have an ipod touch 4th generation and have just recently downloaded the new update. I was wondering why the videos that I had added in my playlist won't show up. Is there anyway that I could get my videos to appear in my playlist? They are still in my ipod in the video section, but just won't appear in my playlist.

iOS6 problems aplenty ....not sure if the link I inserted is working or not, but the issue is a lot more prevalent - the issue being that what shows up & plays in iTunes after the iOS6 update is not what shows up (& plays) on the device itself. This may go beyond just the iPod Touch as well.
In my case I can see & play both audio & video files in my Playlist through iTunes, but can only see the Playlists on the iPod Touch with ALL of them being empty. Syncing numerous times no help. Contacting Apple Tech. Support no help - they suggested downloading my Purchases from the iTunes Store - waste of time, did not make a difference. It is clear Apple needs to release a fix to OS6.
Another problem I noticed on the device is that the Shuffle option is hidden on the built-in Songs Playlist, having to swipe the screen down to see it - dumb dumb dumb.

  • Why cant i make  a video playlist anymore on my IPAD 2

can't make my video playlist anymore

yes, it's the network provider. video calls is an avilable option only if your network provider supports it and you're in an area covered by proper UTMS (3G) signal.
some service providers have differential coverage, where 3G coverage is limited to certain areas only. if you are sure your provider supports video calls then check for an area with 3G coverage, you can see that when your phone shows 3G under the signal strength indicator in standby mode instead of the usual "tower icon"

  • Can no longer sync movie video playlist after update?

I recently performed the 3.0 update to my iPhone 3g with no apparent issues. However, I went to play a movie video last night and discovered that only my music videos had synced (all were previously on the iPhone with no problems). Checking the iPhone settings under video I noticed that the tab lists a section for movie rentals and TV shows but does not specifically call out movies that you own. Under tv shows is where I normally expect to select which video playlist to sync for which none were available (even though I have one with 3 movie videos in it). It looks like it handles tv show video playlists only which I have not tested.
This is different from before the update where I could sync any video playlist I wanted. The videos were all downloaded from iTunes so there should be no issues or questions about format and source. Am I missing something? Thanks.

after you connect your iPhone and go to the 'video' tab, if you scroll down, you should see your 'movies' section which should list the 'movie' files you have in the 'movies' section of iTunes. if you select the videos you want to sync, hit save/apply and sync, you should get the videos on your iPhone.
video playlists will only sync files in the 'tv shows' category, not files in the 'movies' category of iTunes. i'm not sure why they did it like this, but they did, and it highly annoys me. my work around is to make all of my 'movies' go into the 'tv shows' category, which i can then add to a playlist and have it synced. more work, but it works...

  • Any way to get Front Row to show video playlists such as TV shows?

I can get AppleTV now to show the TV show playlists in iTunes as their own menu items. However, I can't seem to get Front Row in 10.6 to do the same thing.
I currently have iTunes 8.2.1 in 10.6.0. Is this something either upgrading to 10.6.1 or iTunes 9 will enable?

Front Row users have been waiting for this option since video playlists first appeared in iTunes quite some time ago. Unfortunately, I've never been able to make it work. Why Apple can't enable what seems like a simple options is beyond me. My iPod nano can do it but Front Row on my Mac can't. I'd advise you to send Apple some Mac OS X feedback since there's no specific form for Front Row itself:

  • Video Playlists

    Hello All.
I am using front row to access a large amount of video's that are stored on my Windows Vista PC with iTunes. (via streaming)
Everything is working great. The only thing that i can figure out, is, why Front Row will only see the video content, but, wont see any Video Playlists that are on the Vista PC.
Does Front Row support video playlists?

Does Front Row support video playlists?
Not right now. We've been waiting for this feature since it became available on the 3rd generation iPod nano. Now they're up to a 4th generation iPod nano and so far there's no indication it's coming to Front Row. It works in iTunes, so you'd hope it would work in Front Row.
I'd send Apple some Mac OS X feedback and let them know directly that this feature is important to you.

  • Video Playlist on Apple TV

I can't see my Video Playlist on my Apple TV. I can see them on my computer and on my Ipod, but not my ATV. Is there a reason for this? Do I need to adjust something?

And why doesn't apple have this feature? We have audio playlists because we like to listen to more at a time. That is why we have multiple songs on compact discs. That is why radio stations do not play one song and sign off. That is why we stacked 45s on each other (yes I am that old) to have them play one after another. I therefore cannot take any credit for having this great idea for consecutive videos. But given this historical background, I and others can certainly question why apple does not have this feature on apple tv. The concept is not groundbreaking and the technology cannot be that hard. I hope that the response that "we do not have this feature" or "this question has been asked many times before" is not the official answer of apple because that is pompous and disconnected from the people - apple customers - who make sure that apple employees go home with a paycheck each week.

  • Unable Video Playlists On Ipad 2 In New Music Application

    Hello,
Is everyone else getting frustrated by the fact that if you browse on your iPhone to Music then to a video playlist you can play a tv series in order of a playlist, however when trying to do the same thing on the iPad 2, it is not possible, when you go to Music application then to the Video Playlist you created in itunes which works perfectly on my iPhone 4S, it shows a folder containing 0 *Songs, however on the iPhone it shows all subfolders (i.e. Series 1, Series 2 etc.) and links to the video files and works flawlessly!
What the **** Apple ? Really ? It is so frustrating ! Why can't you keep applications the same accross devices, functionality wise.
The new music app is really ugly I cannot simply use a nice list view like the old ipod app which i could see my phone library and playlists nicely on the side panel.
Another thing, my iPhone 4S allows creating a hotspot, my Ipad 2 does not have this feature? Both are IOS 5.0.1.
    What a Joke !
    Any Comments ?

If you play the video from the ipod app it simply goes to the video and stops playing it at the end and that is it. but i found a way to play the video play list very easily:
    1. start the video playlist pressing shuffle that is on the top of the checklist
    2. go out of ipod by pressing the home button, it will stop but restart it with the apple headphones with remote control, so that the music continues to play when you are not in the ipod app.
    3. go to the video app and it will show the music video that is playing, you cannot skip to the next but if you wait until it finishes it will continue with another music video of the playlist, etc!!!!
    one more thing hanlded!
    interesting but true!!!
    Try it!!!

  • Why does my playlist get rearranged when burned??

Why does my playlist get totally rearranged when it is burned to a disc??

Depends on what you're doing. Processor intensive things generate more heat, such as graphics intensive games or videos.
Warm is normal, hot is not. If it's too hot to handle (literally) you need to make an appointment at your local apple store and have them check it out.

  • IPhone video playlist question

The videos in my iPhone video playlist do not always begin from the start. Any suggestions on how to correct this.

i don't get it. if you have a playlist of songs you want, why not create another playlist of just the songs you want to play at work in a work playlist, which you can then shuffle?

  • ITunes video playlist does not loop when using apple tv/airplay

I have made a video playlist in itunes, I have made sure that each video file is not set to "skip when shuffled" and I have also gone into appletv settings and ensured that looping is turned on. When I shuffle this playlist, it plays through airplay to my apple tv, but after each video in the playlist has played the playlist stops.
I would like the playlist to continue indefinitely until I decide to press stop. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this does not happen?

So I downloaded the most recent update for the Ipod Touch and now when I go to watch videos in my Videos playlist, it's blank. Does anyone know why this happened?

Hi, I'm not sure what you mean by backing up your 'playlist'. I have several playlists in itunes....some smart playlists with purple icons, some Genius playlists withthe gray genius icon, some regular playlists with a blue icon.
Did you back up the itunes database file? iTunesLibrary.itl
