Why not Audible format 4 on Muv

I've been pretty happy with my Muvo TX FM but I recently listened to an Audible book on another player that supported format 4 and I really liked the better sound quality.
Is there any technical reason why creative doesn't support format 4 Audible on the Muvo line?
I'm guessing they were thinking no one would want it on 52MB and GB players but they are wrong... give us the option.
All the Apple products offer it, even the shuffle. The newer Sandisk players offer it as well.

Why change the format of the presentations? Keynote not respect the original format!
This new versionof Keynot (6.1-1769) is very poor:
    is very slow
    missing fonts
    changes the selected letters
change the formats of the presentations
    Carousel animations missing
Please correct the defects before releasing a new version. (The previous version was much better).

    Found the solution!
I must set the Formats in the CODEC to get the Format that I want to play with! I was trying to complicate too much!
The correct format class to is RGBFormat.

  • How can I show only text edits and not text formatting when using print comments summary?

    Acrobat 9.3.0 for Mac.
Here is the scenario: I used the Compare command to see the changes between 2 PDFs. The resulting file some edits are inserts and some are deletions. I want to print a comments summary only showing the text edits. In the Compare Option pane, I select Text and deselect Images, Annotations, Formatting, Headers/Footers, and Backgrounds. Now on the screen I see inserts are highlighted in blue and deletions are marked with sort of a caret and vertical bar symbol. So all looks good at this point. However, when I show the Comments List, I see addtional comments that indicate "Replace - The following text attributes were changed: fill color." Those comments do not appear in the page view unless I check the Formatting check box to show them. With Formatting unchecked, I print a comments summary and all of the "Replace - Fill Color" comments" appear on the resulting comments summary.
I only want to show text edits, not text formatting changes. So questions are:
    1. Why, when the Formatting checkbox is unchecked, do the text formatting comments still appear in the comments list when they do not appear on the page display.
    2. How can I print only the text content edits and not show the text formatting changes when using Print Comments Summary.

    Hi,
You can set ExecuteWithParams as default activity in the task flow then method activity to return total no of rows passing to Router activity if your method has value 0 then call Create insert operation else do directly to page.
Following idea could be your task flow
Execute With param (default) > SetCurrentRowWithKey > GetTotalNoOfRows (VOImpl Method)
    |
    v
    Router
    1. If pageFlowScope outcome is 0 then call CreateInsert > MyPage
    2. if pageFlowScope outcome > 0 then MyPage

I downloaded the Book Sycamore Row last week on my ipad and when I tried to open it, I got the message that it was formatted incorrectly, or is not a format that ibooks can open? if this is true, how do I get aREFUND?

You can try deleting the book and reinstall it. There is no reason why the book would be formatted incorrectly - assuming that you purchased this book from the iBooks Store .... And you are talking about the John Grisham novel correct?
Did you try just closing the iBooks app, restart the iPad and then try again? If you don't know how, this explains how to close an app.

  • Why aren't format() and parseDouble() or parseInt() compatible??

Hello, I display numbers to the user in their default locale format with:
    NumberFormat.getInstance().format(number)
For example, here in the United States, I get a string with commas separating every 3 digits.
However, when the user naturally wants to use the same format in the input, then
    Double.parseDouble(string), or Integer.parseInt(string)
throw exceptions, because they don't like the commas.
This is strange - shouldn't parseDouble and parseInt, accept any locale formatted strings, or, if that would be ambiguous, shouldn't there be a way to tell them what locale we are using?
I can't just delete the commas myself, because in a different locale, God-knows-what will be there.
So how do I parse a number string, in a default locale, to a double?? Thank you for any hints.
    Mark

No, does not work. This only formats from the beginning of the string, leaving the end if there is junk there. So if the user input a "O" for example, instead of zero at the end, they will wonder why the number did not increase. Worse yet, if they input a legitimate string, such as 2.0e6 (which is a good way to input big numbers in a text field), that will not be formatted, but Double.formatDouble() does format it (it just does not like commas).
To the others answering, thank you for your opinions, but I want the user to be able to input the numbers the same way they are outputted. This is natural way for them to react and it would be unreasonable for me to prevent them.
As to why I don't want to strip commas myself , I already explained.

  • Open source /  Commercial version, it's up to you! Why not for ESB products

Please comment this forum and help us to get Sun's support for Open ESB as we can get it for open-Solaris or Glassfish.
    Thanks

    Jonathan Schwartz new policy
Few years ago, Jonathan Schwartz replaced Scott McNealy as SUN Microsystems CEO. Swartz's first decision was to convert Sun into an Open-Source company. Consequently, Solaris OS, Application Servers and even the Java language were opened and their sources published. At present, Sun is viewed as a major Open Source actor.
Suns new sales philosophy proposes, on one hand, its best products in an open-source format and on the other hand, commercial support and hardware. The best examples of this new philosophy are Open-Solaris and Glassfish. You can download these products, use them and test them. After you have built applications with these tools and wish to move into a production environment, you can buy support from Sun.
Open source or Commercial version, it's up to you!
Alternatively, you can as well buy commercial versions at the first place. Even if open sources and commercial versions are slightly different than the open-source ones, more than 95% of their code is originated from the same development branch. Example : SUN proposes its queue messaging system with two similar versions, respectively named SUN QM and "Open-MQ". The only difference is the amount you pay for the technical support.
Everyone can find advantages in this sales policy on Sun products: companies and developers try and develop for free and can rely on Sun support in production. As a matter of fact, Sun uses these free products as Trojan horses to conquer new market shares, penetrate new companies and sell Sun hardware.
Why not for ESB Products ?
Unfortunately, there is a small issue in this picture: Sun's ESB platform is the exception in this sales policy. In Fact, Sun proposes two different tools for ESB developments. The first product. "JCAPS", is a commercial product inherited from Seebeyond. The second product, "Open-ESB" is based on JBI specifications (JSR 208) and was developed from scratch about 2 years ago.
Alas, JCAPs and Open-ESB are definitely two different products.
    JCAPS ignores JBI specifications
JCAPS connectors are based on JCA specifications and not on JBI.
Open-ESB development process is based on Web services specifications, JCAPS not.
JCAPS and Open-ESB developments are not compatible.
Hundreds other differences can be found between the two products.
We can understand that for a while, for technical, marketing or business reasons, a company supports more than one product lines with the same functionalities. IBM does it and Oracle buying BEA will do it also.
However, there are several things that Pymma would like to understand:
Why the download of JCAPS is only available for authorized JCAPS Partner ?
Why SUN does not provide support for open-ESB as it does for Glassfish, Open Solaris or Open MQ ?
Why JBI or Open-ESB are never mentioned at most ESB seminars organized by Sun Centres in the UK ?
Why Sun marketing, Gurus or consultants are prolix about JBI in the public lectures and technical forums, and at the same ignore Open-ESB when they advice companies ?
Is the policy of Jonathan Swartz policy only applicable for Java Legacy applications (Application Server, Message queuing)? not for ESB tools ?
Of course, we already asked these questions to SUN but we never got clear answers.
    Thanks for clarifying Sun's position
Many companies believe in JBI and their developers spend time and energy working on Open-ESB . These companies would certainly be interested to hear Sun's explanations on the above questions. They probably want to be sure that Open-ESB will not be just a prototype for the new JCAP version (only reserved for SUN JCAPS Partners). They certainly want to be credible by proposing SUN's professional support on Open-ESB as they do for Glassfish and Open-Solaris. After, they only need from SUN to clarify its position and give a clear prospective for the future of JBI and Open-ESB. We hope that through this blog Sun will hear us and we will give us clear answers.

    Hi Leonie,
My iPhoto is iPhoto 11, version 9.4.2.  I believe my Aperture is the latest version but I don't know how to verify that when I can't open it.  I regularly accept any updates.
How I restored my Aperture Library: I opened Aperture, clicked on Time Machine, and navigated to the Aperture Library that had been backed-up earlier in the day.  It took a while to restore.
When done, I opened Aperture (yes, at that point I could still open it).  It opened up on the still-empty Library, and I had to manually change it to the restored library, every time I opened aperture after that.  This was annoying, so, I then went to FINDER and deleted the empty Library.  I probably shouldn't have done this; I noticed it had the words "current default" in its filename.
From that point on, FINDER shows the restored aperture library (actually two restored aperture libraries, since I accessed Time Machine a second time to restore an even older backed-up version) but of course, not the empty Library that had had "default" in its filename.  And... I can no longer open Aperture.
Hope you can help me, thanks so much,
    Glensdaughter

  • Why not MIF?

The question is rhetorical. There is no need to respond.
I just spent over an hour trying to print selected files from a book to the AdobePDF printer. FrameMaker 9.0p237 crashed seconds into the operation. I tried printing individual files in the book. I tried printing to file. All resulted in crashes. Yesterday printing was fine, except for some muddled PDFs, but no crashes.
Finally I saved each fm file in the mif format, opened the mif files, and saved each to fm. I also mifed the book file. I then opened the book, updated it a few times, and printed the selected documents to the AdobePDF printer. It worked just fine!
I have seen so many times on this forum the suggestion of cleaning files by saving them to mif and back to fm. If this is such a good process, maybe Adobe should consider making the mif format the standard format for FrameMaker files. I know that the file size is larger, but if it solves so many problems, why not! Or maybe FrameMaker's save process should include a background mif wash to minimize problems.

    Van,
FYI, a full MIF wash is available via mif2go from Omni Systems at http://www.omsys.com The demo version works just fine for this purpose and never times out.

  • Open a jpg; save a jpg without loss; why not?

I just purchased Elements 8 to run under Windows 7.
If I open a jpg in the editor, why do I have to experience the loss of saving it as a jpg? It's already a jpg.
In Photoshop it is possible to open and save jpg's repeatedly without loss. But not in Elements? Why not?
I understand that I have the option to save the file in photoshop format and then save it as a jpg again only after the final editing is done and the image flattened.
And I understand that I have the option to save it as a high-resolution jpg more than once.
But in Photoshop neither of those processes is necessary.
It is inconvenient not to be able to open an existing jpg and save it as such, without having to experience the loss inherent in making it a jpg again, when it is already a jpg to begin with.
Clearly this problem has been solved in Photoshop. Why not in Elements?
    Thanks.

Saving as a jpg implies loss.
save a RAW file as a JPG -- you have loss -- cannot be avoided because JPG files hold less datasave the same RAW file as a JPG and should get the same result -- same loss
when a JPG is loaded into PSE, the missing pixels are rebuilt by expanding the data to a normalized form, but this WILL differ from the original RAW, it has to since the JPG save discarded data -- so saving again as a JPG will also discard data and since the loaded expanded form differred from the original form, this new save will discard data a bit differently -- so you get accumulated loss - hopefully not as large as the first JPG save.
Does PhotoShop differ from this?  I don't see how -- unless it retains the original and keeps changes (which I believe LR does and maybe NX2, not sure).
So you CAN eliminate compounding the loss by always applying edits to the original -- but that would seem like a difficult task when you get into layers for example, so perhaps PhotoShop can reduce it for some edits -- but I don't have photoshop so I cannot test.

  • Embedding Fonts - Why not?

We are really excited about the news of iBooks Author, since we are graphic designers who run a large font website. The bad news, iBooks doesn't support embedding fonts in the iBook format. Why not? (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5072) - The only work around seems to be if you publish in PDF format, but of course that limits things. Various foundries and font sites offer licenses for eBooks, so iBooks should support this, it's an important aspect to the book design and communication abilities..
Please fix this in the next update? Pretty please....?

    > The bad news, iBooks doesn't support embedding fonts in the iBook format. Why not? ... The only work around seems to be if you publish in PDF format
In the ISO 8879 SGML family of which ePub and HTML are implementations the author inserts character information and content information considering the logical reading order. Appearance and geometry is not defined early binding by the author, but late binding by the audience. Because Apple controls the configuration of the obligatory CMAP Character Map in the SFNT Spline Font files available for rendering appearance, the author is guaranteed that the character information will map as intended in whatever appearance the audience chooses. This is *not* the case with glyph encoding and character substitution, whether in Adobe Type 1 font program dictionary format or in Adobe and Heidelberg SFNT Spline Font files which should have been sold with character encoding and glyph substitution, but which were in fact sold with glyph encoding and character substitution. Essentially, Apple is doing in the iBook Store what Microsoft did in Word 1992, that is, supporting obligatory CMAP shaping only for character-glyph mapping, and supporting system supplied SFNT Spline Font files for appearance approximation over third party selectable font files (whose character-glyph mapping may be completely off the wall).
There is the additional problem that adding logical reading order to PDF in order that it may reflow for PDA Personal Digital Assistants with different geometries is as complex, if not more so, than doing the same for a model for document markup that was designed for defining reading order. PostScript and PDF were designed for defining layout rendering order, not for defining logical reading order.
    Hope this helps,
    /hh

  • ORA-01861 literal does not match format string, ORA-02063preceding line fro

We have upgraded a client from 8.0.5 to 9.2.03. The following query is called from a report that was built using Cold Fusion5. It worked in 8.0.5, but not 9.2.03. When you run the report you get the errors
[Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-01861: literal does not match format string ORA-02063: preceding line from FRPE
    Here's the query:
    SELECT x.acct, x.obj, x.offn, x.status, x.asofdate, max( decode( x.func_id, 1, t, null ) ) UOB, max( decode( x.func_id, 12, t, null ) ) COB, max( decode( x.func_id, 24, t, null ) ) Rate_Warning, max( decode( x.func_id, 2, t, null ) ) Sector_Change, max( decode( x.func_id, 2006, t, null) ) FRRFRD , max( decode( x.func_id, 2003, t, null ) ) No_Tcode , max( decode( x.func_id, 2004, t, null) ) No_Sector FROM ( SELECT a.acct, a.func_id, count(*) cnt, 'Fail' t, b.obj, b.offn, b.status,a.asofdate FROM frpfaud@FRPE a, frpair@FRPE b WHERE a.acct=b.acct AND a.asofdate='2008-02-29 00:00:00' AND b.bnk not like 'B%' and b.obj not in ('KL') and b.obj in ('GAF') GROUP BY a.acct, a.func_id,b.obj,b.offn,b.status,a.asofdate) x GROUP BY x.acct, x.obj,x.offn,x.status,x.asofdate
Now, this query will not work by running straight through SQL worksheet in either the 8.0.5 or 9.2.03 regions. So I guess it has something to do with Cold Fusion- which I know nothing about. Has anyone had any experience using Cold Fusion to issue a query? What would be the cause of the difference between the Oracle versions? That is the only thing that changed.
    Thanks for any input.

I actually want the date format of DD-MON-YY. Which, from what I understand, is the default format for both Oracle 8.0.5 and 9.2.03. I'm trying to figure out why it is now displaying as 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss'. I could convince the client that the code needs changing if I had evidence that this version of Oracle (9.2.03) used a different default date format. Or if Cold Fusion pulls the date differently. Ughh.

If you have any influence at all over the way your tables/app is designed, then I would highly recommend changing the design, as it will save you countless headaches like the one you've currently got.
If you are absolutely stuck with that design, then a) poor you and b) you'll have to add in some filters onto your queryto make sure you're only selecting rows with dates in that column.

  • E-Mail App: Why not play .GSM e-mail attachments like .WAV are played?

I get two kinds of voice-mail attachments forwarded to my e-mail.
At work, our "OneVoice" system sends me a .wav file as an e-mail attachment.
My personal Efax.com number sends me a .gsm file as an e-mail attachment.
On my computer, the Quicktime player will play either type of audio file.
On my iPod Touch, the Mail app will open the .wav attachment and play it with Quicktime player.
Unfortunately, the Mail app just shows the .gsm file as an icon in the message but does not attempt to open or play the attachment, though I confident Quicktime player on iPod could play .gsm like it does on my computer.
Is there any way I can play a .gsm e-mail attachment on my iPod Touch?
Should the Mail app recognize a .gsm e-mail attachment like it does a .wav ?

The mail app will only recognize what it is programmed to recognize. There are many files that work on desktop computers that don't play on the iPhone. Some of apples own office docs will not open on the iPhone while MS office docs will.
Apple does not list all files the iPhone does support, but the audio support does not include GSM. If the phone doesn't know how to decode it, the Mail app can't play it either.
    From Apple iPhone tech specs:
Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

    more resources on it.
Image if only 1/3 of the cameras were supported when
Iphoto launched, they would have looked like idiots.
    Well?
    In very simple terms...
In order to add support for various camera RAW files, Apple has to ask the camera manufactures to supply proprietary information about how to process and read the RAW files. Each and every single camera has a different "proprietary process" it must use to handle the RAW file that the camera produces.
So that means that Apple is at the mercy of the manufacturers in order to get that information. Now most manufactures would prefer that you purchase or use their own software to work on the RAW files that their camera produces... it's an extra revenue stream for them. Because of this, it's not hard to imagine that they are a bit reluctant to divulge what is proprietary information that they spent time and money on creating. It's well documented that Nikon in particular is very reluctant about releasing such information.
If Adobe has support for a particular camera that Apple does not, then that means that Adobe has already gone through the trouble of asking the manufacturer for the information that is needed, reached an agreement and signed the appropriate licensing contracts, exchanged whatever compensation was agreed upon, and then went to work making the software for ACR so it can read that particular cameras RAW files. As you can imagine, it's a process that takes some time to hammer out... more than likely because it involves more lawyers than engineers!
So... be sure you let Apple know that you would like them to add support for a particular camera, but just as important, make sure that your cameras manufacturer knows that you would like them to allow Apple to support their cameras with Apple's software.
