HP 6500A Plus will not print black only if any color cartridges are low. It used to. Why not now? It will print in color if the black is low but not if any color is low. This is very annoying. Printer is using HP cartridges too.

Get used to this with HP printers - its a new feature they have introduced to keep running costs lows - works well. Had two HP printers same happened with both of these. Suggest a different brand - they might not have this special feature

  • Why not put a color picker in photoshop benchmarks?

why not put a color picker in photoshop benchmarks?

Your message says "Photoshop" in the subject, but what does a color picker have to do with benchmarks?  Could you explain more clearly what you're hoping to see accomplished?
Are you wanting to see a color picker operated 10,000 times to see how many seconds it takes to do that?
Is there an underlying problem, such as slowness in the operation of your color picker, that you're trying to expose here?

  • Why does color not have a 1440x1080 Resolution preset?

    1. Why does color not have a 1440x1080 Resolution preset? Im using ProRes HQ in FCP and clips at 1440x1080. But when they come out of Color they are 1920x1080? I notice from color there is no 1440x1080 Res preset so strange?
    2. In addition ive also noticed that I dont have the choice of 'Original Codec' in the render codec settings. Only ProRes, ProRes HQ, Uncompressed 8bit and 10bit. SO i use the higher quality 10bit.

Ok, I class myself as a patient person and not one to fly off the handle. However, Color is testing me to the limits. I cannot work out for the life of me how this application is trying to handle my footage.
I sending 1440x1080 thats been encoded 1440x1080 50i. This footage is ending up in the Color pref settings or as 1920x1080!! Secondly when I send this back to FCP obviously my Sequence will have changed to match 1920x1080.. thus up scaling the whole project! Then if that weren't enough, taking a look at the data-rates in the clip settings of the Color Sequence they read in excess of 131.5 mb/s My HDD give up immediately! (Is one supposed to render the timeline first once this footage is back from color? - i dont just mean because of the transitions etc)
Now.. to yet further confuse the issue I then do a Render ALL in FCP and the Color Sequence plays back fine though still with the wrong Resolution of 1920x1080?
to be frank, i just dont know where to start with this.. it seems 1 step forward 3 steps back each time. I can appreciate Im new to this but I thought I knew enough not to encounter such petty problems as just setting Color up for import/export. Im going to say it... Is this a Color problem or what? I dont think there are many of you using PAL with HDV into ProRes HQ or ProRes so I guess its going to have to be a £200 call to Apple? .. Which I probably wont do..
    Here's hoping.

  • AT&T has great support for WP, why not VZW?

So first the Lumia 928 is released in only black and white, even though Nokia had made a cyan and red version. Why?
The Lumia Icon was ready from Microsoft/Nokia to be released in November 2013, but Verizon didn't release it until after the holiday season in February 2014 after poor marketing. Now after only 8 months, its being retired. Why?
The Lumia 930 is the equivalent of the Lumia Icon, except the 930 has been released overseas in multiple colors. Verizon only offered, again, black and white. Why?
Lumia Cyan. AT&T was able to test and release Lumia Cyan for the Lumia 1020 by August (2 months ago), for the Lumia 920 and 820 it was released early last month. No Windows Phone on Verizon has yet received this update (nor does Verizon care to enlighten us as to when we can expect it). Why?
Microsoft announced two new phones at the same time this year: The Lumia 735 and 830. It later came out that AT&T would get the 830 and Verizon would get the 735. AT&T will have the 830 hitting the shelves on Friday, November 7th. Verizon seems to have decided to postpone the release of the 735 until after the holiday season (much like the Icon). Oh and by the way, the Lumia 735 is already being released in other countries. Why not Verizon?
AT&T has not only released their latest windows phones (the Lumia 1020 and 1520) in multiple eye catching colors (just recently adding a pretty sweet green to the 1520 collection), but they update them much timelier then Verizon too.
I love the Windows Phone OS. If I have to choose between Verizon or Windows Phone, I'll end up choosing Windows Phone on a certain other carrier that actually values the OS that I prefer. I hope Verizon changes their stance before my contract ends this summer.

VZW has had a negative attitude against Microsoft devices for several years now.  It seems to go back to the Kin.

  • Why not there a "Find/replace in Grep style" inside the Para style?

Whenever I type a digit in my text, it should be colored red as per style. I do this by grep style inside the para style, but now I need to insert brackets before and after of the digit(s), i realize that there is no replace option in grep style in the para style. Why not it be there a "find/replace" instead "find" only as it now appears?

Ya, this is simple, finding a specific para style with digit and change them, when the book in first pass. But while in the correction pass of the same book, whenever we are inserting more text into the document, there are chances to be unaware of the digit style that, it should be surrounded by brackets, and it happened earlier so I have a thought of it. Again, while paginating a book having more than 350 - 600 pages, and 3 to 4 guys working in it, I think this may work.

    Hi,
Select>Color Range is only in photoshop (i.e photoshop cs6 or cc 2014 as examples) and not in photoshop elements.
You could double click on the layer thumbnail in the layers panel to unlock the layer.
Select the background with the Magic Wand Tool.
Then Edit>Cut and that should make everything but the actual logo transparent.
Then save as a png, tif or psd file.
There is also a photoshop elements forum

  • Why are colors different on my MacBook Pro?

I am struggling with some color issues and am wondering if anyone can help shed some light on what's going on.
We have several macs in our office that we use for developing printed and interactive materials. We occasionally need to grab files from clients' websites for editing or reference. When we spec colors for web use, we typically use 8-bit hex. Here is where the problem begins:
If we all open the same webpage in Safari, then check colors using Apple's DigitalColor Meter (RGB 8-bit hex), everyone gets the same colors numbers -- except me. For example if everyone checks the same blue background on a page, they all get 163B98 except me. I get 153997. The diffence is small, but it is still different.
Everyone is running custom monitor profiles based on their individaul calibration settings, however it doesn't seem to matter which color profile is being used for the display profile. Switching profiles changes the appearance of the colors, but not the numbers.
I rebooted into Safe Mode to see if something like Adobe CS2's color sync or some background daemon might be the cause, but nothing changed.
Can anyone suggest why my colors numbers would be different? Most of the machines are G5's or Powerbooks running the most recent OS, except me. I'm on a MacBook Pro with an Intel procressor. Could that have anything to do with it?

If you open System Preferences / Displays / Color can
you change the color profile to others in the list?
Or, do you get a "beep" and no change?
I can change the color profile.

  • Why embed color profiles?

I understand color profiles as translators of the image data for the device to show as it shoudl appear (to me, the human eye)
Why not apply this translation as a conversion (profile tells how the color values shoudl appear, right?) and done with it. Then the monitor should use it's profile to show the file correctly.
The whole idea of "working space" or choosing/applying a profile to an image seems only to apply this translation (the profile).
Why ask? Or why even have an image + profile, when one can simply do image x profile = a single profiled origianl image? In RAW conversion is this not what we are doing? And if so, why have the profile name attached to the file, when it is already converted?
Or did I got it all wrong? When I think I get it, soon I start to see - may be I am not getting it

As this topic (color management) makes me to research and learn continuously, I am curious to understand more about your comment on LAB: "...numerous issues with Lab although the fact it's self defining (until you ask about white point)" What about the white point in LAB? I don't know if that should be another discussion.
In the meantime I got my answers, and a book called "Color Confidence" seems to clarify it well. In fact it has a reddish text box just for the precise question "Why not Lab?" ("why embed profile" is implied in the context). What pinned it well was the statement "Of course, provided a profile is embedded in an image file, the RGB and CMYK values are, in a way, stored as LAB..."
The text can be found in Google books preview: http://books.google.co.in/books?id=XprFp9u4lcAC&q=why+not+lab
what appeals to me now, is this:
The intention is to give real world colors and consistently accross devices (with different color spaces)
To achieve it, it is done through profiles
Original digital image (RGB or CMYK) are easier to edit as RGB or CMYK (user friendly to move those sliders of R G and B) than LAB sliders (are there sliders in LAB? I have not explored)
Though one could have untagged files, adding a profile tries to dictate some consistency to them for further use/editing. If that was not fixed for the digital image, it will be free for each app to use any color profile and make colors look different each time. I am not even talking of display and print profile here, assume they were all set.
My botheration has only been the first step of digital image. Not display and print profiles, that is, why is the original digital not converted to LAB? Now it becomes clear.

  • Apps must say FREE! Not color coding it's version with Silver & Gold.

Apple needs to be more strict, about the Apps people submit. It's awful to have someone put out an App, that has two of the same. One, with the free version, and the other being the purchased version. But, both icons almost look identical, with one having a Silver band around it, and the other with a Gold band around it. Indicating that the Gold band is the full version. Well, that's not right! There have been so many times, where you could sware you previously owned an app, then watch it download without the "you previously own this, would you like this update for free~". Now knowing that you just purchased the App... Then when you talk to the Apps Customer Service, they say "Well, one is Silver, being the free version, and the Gold being the full paid version." That's their defense?
Bottom line... These app icons must say FREE on them, or else it's an easy way to make the developers more money, and basically calling us an ideot for not remembering the Silver, or Gold band. I mean, come on Apple! I am begging for these app icons, to say FREE, and not color coding their version.
Doesn't that sound like the right thing to do?
    Thanks Guys!

It's up to the developer of the apps to make an icon for their apps. Of course they want the two versions ofthe app to have similar icons which is why they have a differen coloured border.
As far as redownloading previously purchased apps, I would have to say it's your responsibility to know what you have downloaded before. The apps do list the price in the AppStore and if you are insure then I would suggest downloading the version with free as the price.
As far as the AppStore programming rules go apple controls that so you could send some feedback but I think they would say that the price is clearly listed and it does not need to be added to the title or elsewhere. I believe apple does suggest developers add lite or another indicator saying that it is a demo of a paid version in the app title or description.

  • Who uses Final Touch SD in conjunction with FCP?  Why?  Why not?

Who uses Final Touch SD in conjunction with FCP? Why? Why not?
    LM

It is my understanding that Final Touch is much faster than daVinci.
    You are in error...
Depends on the operator and the machine. With a DaVinci you are going tape to tape and the colorist is coloring each shot. When they are done, then they press play and all their settings apply in real time as the tapes roll.
With Final Touch, you have to render your final product after you do all the coloring. Typically the render will take longer than it takes a tape to play, depending on the machines processor power. But still, 4-5 hours for a 30-60 minute show...darn slow. If you had the same colorist on both, Final Touch would be slower.
BUT...the advantage is that you color BEFORE you go to tape. So doing your texted and textless outputs are darn easy.

  • Why is color shifting on a scaling image?

I am building a website with a responsive, one-color SVG logo, and for some reason, the color shifts when the image scales down to a certain size. It seems like the color flips from sRGB to my calibrated monitor setting. And it happens on PNGs as well. And when I change the color of the image. This seems to be a strictly Safari issue. FF and Chrome tested out fine. I tried replicating it on my iMac at work, and, surprise, it doesn't happen. On my Mac Pro, I'm using a Spyder4Pro for color calibration on my Dell Ultrasharp. Am I the only one with this problem? I throw myself at the mercy of the Apple forums!

First off, merci beaucoup, Arnaud. Your English is very good.
I'm not sure I've explained the problem very well. The image is switching color profiles in the browser as it's being scaled. It's a fluid image, and every time the image gets down to a specific size, the color profile switches, causing the SVG or PNG to noticably change colors. It looks like an event triggered by a media query, but nothing's set in the CSS.
I've changed how the image is displayed, from embedding it as a background with intrinsic ratio to displaying it explicitly with the <img> tag. I've even embedded different profiles, but nothing seems to stop the change in color. Maybe it's the way Webkit is rendering objects below a certain size? I'm hoping a Webkit specialist out there can help me.
Color management is like alchemy to me, so your article is extremely helpful and very much appreciated, but I'm afraid it doesn't solve why the color changes in the browser without anything to trigger it other than a change in size. :\
    C'ie la vie.
Thank you again for your response, and I hope you have a great day!

  • Can not color label more than one file at a time

    Hi,
I've had this problem since 10.6.6-ish, i can not color label more than one file at a time in the Finder.
Wether i select two, twenty or twohundred only one file gets color labeled.
It doesn't seem to matter if i assign a color label through the File menu or right click > label.
Figured a re-install might fix this but it hasn't (even a clean install without restoring any kind of backup).
Does anyone else have this issue and/or a fix for it?
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Aaaaanyone ?
