Why not keep all threads?

I have just noticed that the oldest thread in the Archives of this forum is not yet a year old. Considering that PageMaker is a dead program, wouldn't it be wiser to keep all existing threads for as long as this forum exists? I don't think 200 threads would take too much disk space...

who can tell me how to avoid this? Thanks a lot!

  • Why not unify all drivers?

I know the question is stupid, but why don't unify all models of sound cards in a single package drivers ?
I believe that would facilitate for the company and for users since we could only get a single model Drive and the installation recognize the type of card and install the necessary software while keeping the core drive updated.
    But why not?

But drivers contains API dll`s for patented/licensed technologies, thus are subject for regulations. Software is restricted even more - my Titanium HD package (with noted on the box PowerDVD featured) had no disk with PowerDVD - i must install tons of bloatware from DVD, after this a special utility connects to Cyberlink site, verify my hardware and download a special build. Creative is really a minor partner for IP holders for many years, so holders can dictate whatever conditions they want.

  • TS3297 Is it possible for itunes on my MacBook Pro to play songs off my networked WD external hard drive and sync to my iPhone? I prefer to not keep all my music on my laptop and I don't want to pay $25 a year to access my songs if I don't have to.

Is it possible for itunes on my MacBook Pro to play songs off my networked Western Drive external hard drive so I can sync to my Mac to my iPhone? I do not want to keep any music on my laptop and I don't want to pay $25 to itunes match a year to access my songs if I don't have to.

    Hi turingtest2,
Thank you for replying.  I've been looking at your posts about setting up iTunes using an external drive.  A bit of background info.  My old computer broke down, so I got a new one from work.  I've always kept my music files on my external drive (I have around 170GB of music).  I didn't follow the suggestions in the "migrate iTunes library" post because my old computer died on me.  However, I've looked at your posts about lay out of the iTunes folders.  Before connecting to iTunes on the new computer, I had reorganized my iTunes folder on my E: external drive, and created an iTunes folder which contains an iTunes Media subfolder.  The music files are in a Music folder, which is in the iTunes Media folder.  I've also put the following files in my iTunes folder: iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, iTunes Music Library.xml, as well as sentinel.  I then followed the advice you gave bmw99 on 2 Nov 2013 at 9.58 (sorry, can't copy the exact answer).
Just to clarify:  I'd like to keep all my music media on the E: external hard drive (the computer hard drive is too small), and I'm aware i might never have my playlists back, and that all the songs in my library might be ticked.  However, I don't want my library to be duplicated.
I'm at work at the moment, but will be back home in about 10 hours, so I can be more specific about folders / files names.
I'm glad you picked up my message and greatly appreciate your help.

  • Weblogic.kernel.Default not using all threads

We are running weblogic 8.1 sp4 on HP Tru64 5.1.
We have an admin server and 3 managed servers in a cluster.
When monitoring the weblogic.kernal.Default execute threads through the weblogic console, threads 0 to 15 have zero total requests, and the user is marked '<WLS Kernal>'. Threads 16 to 24 share the entire workload with thousands of requests shared between them, and have user marked as 'n/a' (when idle).
I have done a thread dump, and threads 0 to 15 just seem to be idle.
This is the case for the admin server, server 1 and server 3. But server 2 actually shows all threads 0 to 24 as sharing the workload, and the user is 'n/a' for all threads.
Is there a reason for this?
Below is a snippet of the thread dump showing a thread that is has user '<WLS Kernel>':

Grand central dispatch - infancy, not really doing its job, and I don't think apps have to be specifically written for HT, but they do have to not do things that they use to - prevent threads from going to sleep! or be parked.
high usage is not necessarily high efficiency. often the opposite.
Windows 7 seems to be optimized for multi-core thanks to a lot of reworking. Intel wants and knows it isn't possible to hand code, that the hardware has to be smarter, too. But the OS has a job, and right now I don't think it does it properly. Or handle memory.
Gulftown's 12MB cache will help, and over all should be 20% more efficient doing its work.
With dual processors, and it doesn't look like there are two quick path bridges, data shuffling has led to memory thrashing. Use to be page thrashing with not enough memory. Then core thrashing but having the cores, but not integrated (2008 is often touted as being greatest design so far, but it was FOUR dual-cores, 2009 was the first with a processor that really was new design and (native) 4-core.
One core should be owned by the OS so it is always available for its own work and housekeeping.
The iTunes audio bug last year showed how damaging and not to implement code and how a thread could usurp processing and add a high cpu temperature while basically doing nothing, sort of a denial of service attack on the processor - those 80*C temps people had.
All those new technology features under development and not like OpenCL, GCD and even OpenGL are tested, mature but rather 1.0 foundation for the future. A year ahead of readiness.

  • Threads listed using kill -3 does not contain all threads via ps -auxww

    Hello
We are currently experiencing a problem running ServletExec (java Servlet container) where a process starts hogging the CPU. We end up having to restart the program.
As a Java developer, in these situations you tend to issue "kill -3 <pid>" commands to try to determine the rogue thread. The java VM traps this signal and outputs it's currently executing threads to system error.
In Linux, each java thread is implemented as a process. The rogue process I mentioned above does NOT appear in the "kill -3" stack trace which is very strange.
So I ran a very simple java program that starts a thread and continuously sleeps for 2 seconds and then prints out "Sleeping..". If I issue kill -3 commands against this program and compare against a listing of the threads using ps -auxww the latter contains more 2 threads.
So the "problem" is not a ServletExec issue.
Am I correct in my assumption that all the processes seen using ps -auxww should be visible in the Java stack trace? If not, how can I find out what the rogue java process is doing?
    Many thanks for any info.
    Environment:
    Red Hat release          ES 2.1
    kernel version          2.4.9-e.62smp
    hardware               hp ProLiant DL360 G3
    java               j2sdk1.4.2_09
    ServletExec               4.1.1 patch 27

In Linux, each java thread is implemented as a process. It was not exactly true even with the elder versions of Linux, let alone the newer ones. With some versions however threads showed up as processes in the output of "ps" or some other diagnostic tool.
In good old days, the traditional fork() Unix system call, which copies the running process along with its memory state and runs both copies as separate processes (with the return value of the said system call differentiating between the parent and the child process) had some flags, Linux-extension ones, to fine-tune what is exactly copied and shared among the processes. (File handles are shared for example by default). One possibity was to tell the new process to share the memory with the old one - threading was solved (hacked) this way but, as said, it was withj the elder Linux versions.

  • Why not keep Forms Central as a separate product to stand and sell on its own. I use it for client information to process their data-ptocessing in my mailing business; do not need or want electronic tabulation. I would be happy to pay several hundred doll

I use a Forms Central form to ask questions of clients to return with their mailing database; tabulation is not wanted or required. From the answers and boxes marked, I have most or all the information to process data in accordance with the United States Postal Service. After, I return the data and paperwork including eDoc worked so that my company wins, the US Postal Service and my client (and possibly their client) wins! If Forms central was simply an interactive forms builder used for direct B2B or B2C information, it would be a winner. If I wanted SurveyMonkey, then would get it but I and others like me do not need or want tabulation services as I assume Adobe looked at Forms Central as a cash cow; it isn't that at all for me.

  • HT5361 Upgrade 10.6.8 to 10.8.4;  Mail did not keep all my mailboxes

When I upgraded from 10.6.8 to 10.8.4,Mail did not set up all my mailboxes and now I cannot find messages stored in various mailboxes.  Where are they ?
Can I get them back (FWIW  I also have backed up with Time Macine)

    Apple support article.
    Restore Mailboxes and their Content
If that doesn't work, in Time Machine go back to Snow Leopard. Look in your Home folder/User Library/Mail and you can navigate to the mailboxes.
By default, your User Library isn't visible in Mountain Lion. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

  • Why not put all VMs and replicas in the same default folder?

By default, VMs are stored in \hyper-v\vm and replicas are stored in \hyper-v\replica\.  So, when you failover, your new mission-critical VM is located in the replica folder.  This is confusing and
its a pain to move the replica back to the default hyper-v\vm folder.
    Comments and suggestions welcomed.

It's your system. Do whatever you want to do.
But Replica is meant for DR. Most people wouldn't consider running out of the DR facility to be a permanent situation. I suspect they'd rather know at a glance whether or not they're dealing with an original or a replica.

  • Rollup errors - why not aggregate all rule violations into one record.

    Hi there
We are using data rules on a target table and for each incoming row which violates a data rule a separate record is written to the error table. we have set the rollup errors to Yes. I would have thought this would have been sufficient but have read another post which talks about mapping from this error table into another custom error table. We could do this but I'm concerned about having two error tables instead of just the one.
    Any ideas/advice?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
If u believe what ever error table that u are using meets ur requirement for tracing the data then u donot need to maintain a separate error table as it would eat up on ur table spaces and also u have to take into consideration the maintenance cost for the same.
If u want a centralized view of all error tables in a single table then it would be a good idea to do it.

  • Any help on why not seeing all these "0TCT" process variants in RSOR?

    Hi,
I am following some instructions on installing BW Statistics for BI7, but I am stuck at a point:
    1.
In RSOR, Object Types, “Process Chain”, I am supposed to select all “Process Variants” that begin with “0TCT”
The only one I found is “0TCT_MD_C_FULL_P01” Content Master Data
what could be wrong? Am I at the right location?
    2.
Later I tried, RSOR, Object Types, “Process Variants”, looking for all “Process Variants” that begin with “0TCT
Here this is what I found:
    0TCT_C01_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
    0TCT_C21_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
    0TCT_C22_AGGRE_DELTA_LOAD
    0TCT_C22_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
    0TCT_C23_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
But in the instruction, there is a long list of these “0TCT” process variants.
what could be wrong? Am I doing something wrong?
    3. What is the best way to collect all those process variants with “0TCT”?
I was looking for a way to search for all “0TCT” for selection, any hints?
    Thanks

    Hi Amanda,
    I think this can help.
You have to configure the BI administration cockpit .(transaction SPRO)

  • Why not buy? 2.16GHz CoreDuo MacBook Pro

I currently use a 17-inch G4 1.33GHz PowerBook and am ready for an upgrade. I'm considering to a new Core Duo machine. My uses are modest page layout (Quark Xpress) light photo editing (Photoshop) and presentations (PowerPoint). The ability to run Windows applications directly (With Parallels) is very important; moderate travel use and desktop replacement are the other criteria. There is currently what appears to be a screaming good deal from several of the mail-order houses ($1700 after rebates) on the original 17-inch 2.16GHz MacBook Pro. This is the version that came before todays Core 2 Duo machines and will obviously be slower and less capable. But saving a grand is attractive. Is there any compelling reason NOT to go for the Core Duo machine? Will it be unable to run applications that are foeseeable? Will it be an unloved technical orphan? Why might I regret the purchase?
    Thanks for all advice.
    PowerBook 17"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Tony is right, BUT to be more specific the 15in Core2Dues include both Firewire 800 and 400, where as the 15in CoreDuo had just firewire 400. As for the 17in CoreDuo (the one Aces is looking at) that did have firewire 800 adn 400...
I want to also add that the programs you listed you work with are questionable to me. I mean this in regards to their native processor language, those programs are written for PowerPC chips. I am not sure if you are familiar so please let me briefly explain (I, as well as others can go into more detail if needed). Anyways, as you know, the new Apple computers such as the MBP have intel processors. Meaning the entire chip architechture is different then that of the G3, G4, G5 (all were PowerPC chips). So although Apple rewrote the Operating system to work for the new intel chips, many software vendors, such as the programs you listed (Photoshop, Powerpoint, etc...) have yet to be rewritten. Therefore it theory they would not work at all! But of course Apple needed to do something about this compatability issue or else consumers would not buy the new intel processors.
So Apple created something called Rosetta. Rosetta is an emulator that runs in the background and is always ready to translate PowerPC programs to work on the new intel platform. So, if you had your new MBP and launched photoshop, it would launch like normal. But underneath, Rosetta is enabling this PowerPC program to work on the intel. The problem with this is: a signifigant performance hit. If you ever ran Virtual PC on your powerbook to use windows, you know how slow it can be.
My point in telling you this is that software vendors, such as Adobe, are working to create intel versions of their software so that no Rosetta (thus performance hits) will occur. And since Photoshop and others are still off in the distance, like this coming spring/summer Q2-Q3, I would say why not keep using your Powerbook and wait to upgrade until every program you want to use properly works with intel. By then, you can also probably get the current Core2Due MBP for a steal.

If you see a dialog telling you the app is not avaiable, then it's not available.
And keep in mind, your credit or debit card credentials must be associated with the same country where you reside.

I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one.
